That many parts of Lagos are dirty is not in doubt as the government of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode struggles with its Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) 3 years into a 4-year tenure. The government has insisted that its plan is to create a waste management system that is modern, efficient and effective despite the poor state of hygiene in many parts of the state. The Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) has released a press statement on why certain parts of Lagos are experiencing poor waste disposal currently. Read the statement next: SERVICE DISRUPTIONS TO WASTE COLLECTION SERVICES. The Cleaner Lagos Initiative wishes to inform residents of Agege and Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Areas and members of the public encompassing or affiliated to waste management about the ongoing upgrades of the Transfer Loading Stations located in the Lagos West and Lagos East districts. These stations serve as facilities for waste aggregation before the waste is moved for sorting, recycling and permanent disposal. They are presently closed while these vital repairs are being concluded. This, in addition to the closure of Olusosun landfill, is requiring Waste Collection Operators to go further afield to Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Badagry and Epe which is causing longer turnaround time in waste collection. Areas particularly affected by the aforementioned work in progress include, but are not limited to Agboyi-Ketu, Onigbongbo, Agbado Oke-Odo, Alimosho, Ayobo, Ifako-Ijaiye, Mushin, Igando-Ikotun, Isolo, Mosan-Okunola, and Ikeja. We regret any inconvenience caused and would like to assure residents that your local Waste Collection Operator is working hard to adjust to the longer distances and turnaround times. We appeal to Lagosians to refrain from illegal dumping and fly-tipping and thank them for their patience and cooperation Signed: The Cleaner Lagos Initiative. We hope the CLI and by extension the Lagos State Government will resolve these issues speedily as every day refuse is not cleared means danger to thousands if not millions of people. Consumer rights advocate and public affairs commentator, Sola Salako Ajulo has refuted claims by Sokoto state governor that the federal government has done nothing tangible in the state in the last 3 years and this forms part of the reasons he is decamping from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The Governor wrote: “…I cannot look those who elected me as their Governor here in Sokoto State in the face and boldly point to any meaningful Federal Projects initiated in the state under the APC government. Even the bulk of uncompleted Federal Projects here that were inherited from the previous administration have largely remained in their state of neglect. Sokoto State is also not being meaningfully carried along in political appointments and in other matters of national importance.” Mrs Ajulo took to her Facebook page to write: Here is a list of some of the FG’s “Nothing” in Sokoto State that Governor Tambuwal said was the reason he defected from APC to PDP. Some people should fear God sha! TAMBUWAL Said The Buhari Led FG Has Done Nothing In Sokoto State. How About These?: 1. Street food can be very cheap and delicious, however, some persons avoid it like a plague because they fear that it will make them sick. Do you know that you can still savour and enjoy without falling sick? Jumia Food, Nigeria's no 1 food ordering platform, discuss ways you can do this. Eat as the locals do If you’re on the hunt for some tasty street eats then first have a look around to see where the locals are eating. If there’s a huge crowd around a particular spot, you will know for sure that the food will be great. The locals know which stalls are safe and where you can find the most delicious food. Always avoid the stalls with no queue and no customers. Only eat what is made in front of you There are generally two types of food stalls; the ones where the food is already prepared and waiting for you, or the ones where it is cooked right in front of you. Always choose what is cooked right in front of you. That way you know it’s fresh and therefore less likely to be contaminated and full of bacteria, especially in hot and humid destinations. Follow the crowds When it comes to street food, you have to follow the bandwagon. If you see a big line up for a certain street vendor- join it. Especially if the lineup is mostly locals. It’s pretty much a guarantee that whatever is being served is fresh, safe, and tasty. Bring your own utensils and sanitizer It’s also a good idea to bring your own set of utensils so that you do not have to use the ones every other person have used. Just endeavour to thoroughly wash and clean them. If this isn’t possible, then carry some antibacterial wipes to clean down the stall or restaurant utensils before using them. If it doesn't taste right, don't continue When it comes to food, it does not taste right, you should desist from eating it. Don't just eat because it smells good, that doesn't necessarily mean it's not going to be harmful. Food could appear on the surface to be perfectly fine and still be riddled with illness-causing bacteria. Source: Street Food: How to Avoid Getting Sick
