zicoraads: I believe we would have a better performance. At least now we know what the flaws are and how they can be corrected. I support the PDP, but I haven't lost my soul in the process. I am a firm supporter of a free and fair polls. And it is my firm believe that these card readers would do justice to that and I support it's full implementation. But what I do believe is that it was wrong for INEC to have had plans to test these machines on election day.
And I would like more clarification on the issue of the FG preventing INEC from using those machines in the states you mentioned. Because as far as I can tell, it's the Governors of those states that opposed the use of these machines. They viewed it as an avenue for the FG to manipulate the polls.
And I can categorically tell you that as at 6 days to the election, INEC hadn't trained or even rolled out the names of it's Ad Hoc staffs in some states. INEC's financial dependency on the Executive Arm of Government is an issue. What INEC is doing now with Card Readers should have been done in Ekiti around April last year in preparation for the election there, but the fund for that election had not even been released yet then. I witnessed a senatorial bye-election in Gombe State in 2010 and I can tell you the Ad-hoc staff only had their names posted at INEC offices just a day to the election day and only had a day training. All these within 3 days to the election. I wouldn't know the reason for this if they had funds to train their staff for at least a week. It's very wrong to test the CRs only on election days. There should have been run-off tests when Cards were being distributed at the PU level. I never endorsed the idea of having elections in February when the timetable was released because INEC's level of preparedness was still at zero, but people who are complaining now were ok with it. INEC has its own shortcomings, but the FG is 70% responsible for the poor level of preparedness. |

Are they really planning an ING? Why if they are serious with this election? The facts are there. |

zicoraads: You are missing the point. The point is not whether they got the money in Jan. this year or last year. The point is, was INEC ready for the polls last month? If Jega didn't get funds in time and therefore didn't prepare well, why then was he insisting on going ahead with the polls? I am only addressing INEC's readiness or otherwise. They were ready. On this Card Reader issue, we can not have a better performance on 28th than we could have if the election was not postponed. The Card Readers would have been used in Osun and Ekiti if INEC were indeed independent. The FG have been sabotaging the process as far back as 2012 when all PVCs should have been produced and Card Readers procured. Man and Material, INEC was ready before February. INEC will have to postpone the election for another 6 months to get to the level of readiness you people are asking for, but elections must take place before April 30. PVC and Card Readers will be used and everyone with authentic card- not impersonating- will vote on that day. No going back. We should not be starting at this level by 2019. We should be talking about a better method-like e-voting. |

Jega has never complained about shortages of funds. He didn't get N75 billion of the fund until January this year. What do you have to say about that? myhoodlink: Not so bro. If this was the main election, GEJ would won by 95% due to the fact that majority of Kano voters (perceived stronghold of the opposition) had problems with the CR recognising their PVC just like Rivers State The problem in Kano was not about the authenticity of the card, but of fingerprints and I don't think these people will not be verified on this ground alone provided they pass photo verification. Ngwakwe: According to INEC. A voter is assumed to be accredited and eligible to vote only when the PVC is authenticated by the fingerprints using the Card reader with exception of the amputees.
They need to reconcile their activities with the subsisting electoral law to avoid unruly behaviour at the polling units. If amputees can be verified using the same machines, I don't think anyone will be disenfranchised on the ground of fingerprints if the Officials are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the card holder is the real owner- not when a whopping 40% of voters are affected. I'm certain INEC will work on this. We must also do our own part. I give Jega and INEC 95% confidence level. |

sakaguchi: Story story!
Once upon a time, I had 2 dogs (male and female) who can't bark, don't bite, they don't do anything that other canines do. They run at the sound of gunshot or on sighting thieves. The thieves came in and sacked my community. They took my sandals away, they took my food away, they took my cars ways and stole all the books I bought for my kids.
10 dog years later, this two dogs birthed 2 puppies. This puppies became everything their dog parent never were. They backed at thieves, chase them out of my area, and protected me, my sandals, my food, and cars and the books from theft.
So happy by their birth, I sold the 2 dog parents to my envious neighbour.
My envious neighbour started spreading propagandas that my dogs are responsible for the constant attacks be thief in my community because all the while, my dogs are the first to scamper for safety on sighting thieves. That we must change dogs. That his dogs are better. That we must CHANGE. Then I laugh. Change has already arrived naturally. God changed the dogs and gave me newer dogs. If God says yes, who can say No? Gods change is everlasting.
Didactics.

Once again. God's change is the best. If God says Yes, who can say No or Broom? So PDP gave birth to Buhari and Tinubu- people who have never been in the party for a second- according to your warped logic? Try harder next time. |

Politics › Re: APC, PDP, Civil Society, INEC Disagreed Over Card Reader Performance In Kano by otr1(m): 10:02pm On Mar 07, 2015 |
Ngwakwe: The electoral law as amended states that every eligible voter with a valid card must be allowed to vote and moreover there is a provision for 700,000 amputees in Nigeria to cast their vote hence INEC cannot violate the law by denying any Nigerian who physically comes to polling booth with a valid INEC Card the opportunity to votes for whatever reason. Once the card is verifif as authentic and the photo matches the holder, I don't think INEC will disenfranchise people who have problems with their fingers. I don't think the verification will be based only on matching fingerprints. They will be verified. |

Politics › Re: APC, PDP, Civil Society, INEC Disagreed Over Card Reader Performance In Kano by otr1(m): 8:23pm On Mar 07, 2015 |
Ngwakwe: Damage done to any finger may be an occupational hazard associated with subsistence farming and some craftsmanship hence there should have been provision for four fingers, any finger from the two thumbs and two index fingers should work.
Why were ten fingers captured during registration?
Were the implementers of this technology myopic to forsee simple techniques my laptop can easily apply.
The blame should be on the card-readers and INEC. For the sake of this election, everyone should keep his/her fingers in shape. By 2019, the machines will be reconfigured to pass voters with any four fingers confirmed. Not necessarily the thumb and the index, coz if the ridges of other fingers got damaged for the reasons stated above, I doubt that of the thumb and the index would still be in place. They've been into this line of business before the last election and I don't think the system will accept a finger with badly damaged ridges. If it was possible in 2011, it's possible now. The h3aling won't take more than 3 days. |

Ngwakwe: Stop misleading Nairalanders, painted fingers will pass biometric.
Just dip your finger in ink and try it with your Laptop now. It works. That of Laptop is touch sensitive, it doesn't read fingerprints. The card readers confirm the card holders by matching their fingerprints with that registered on the card, so any damage done to the fingers( not necessarily henna paintings) will never let it pass. I will never use razor even a week to the election coz I know it's capable of defacing my fingers. Whatever happens to our fingers is not INEC's fault. |
