the Chinese are raping Africa from different angles, they mine illegally in every Africa countries that has minerals.
If you do not have mineral they fish illegally on your waters.
Blame this on the failure of government. The local government area of operation failed to ensure proper operational guidance for such a company.

Mining Titanium ore also provides an opportunity for the government to setup a titanium processing plant with a good environmental impact; and that in turn provides jobs and good earning from export.

It baffles me that at this age and time, we are still not planting economic trees. Palm trees, cashew, mangoes, blueberries, avocado, etc. These trees do well in Abuja! Why are we not thinking about the future? I don't need to state how important those trees are; you can't compare their canopies with this useless masquerade tree! But alas... We mostly act without critical thinking in this our nation
Brilliant… I thought I was the only one who grim faced at the thought of these masquerade trees that do not grow to a good canopy… No shades, really. They often grow slender and tall. Mango trees give a really good canopy for parks and gardens… and makes recreational sense too for kids and adult alike

Hehehehe

CBN was allocating dollars to BDCs.

It's no longer allocating and the report didn't say that it will allocate.

Did CBN stop them from buying in regulated FX market? If they did, please show the evidenced
Well.. it was called I&E window ..an FX window but basically it was an fx allotment scheme. And the scheme didn’t have enough FX to meet all request. That was the reason emirates pulled from Nigeria. Their naira earnings could not be converted enough in time in the so called FX window. At that time BDCs were allowed 10k weekly.

Arbitrage by BDCs made Emefiele to kick them out requiring them to source their own FX from the public.

Now CBN want them (BDCs) back in provided they will sell within-+2.5 band. The new I&E ( now name changed) still doesn’t have enough liquidity to Carter for all demands. Currency was devalued hoping to draw in liquidity.

It will boil down to allotment weekly or daily to BDCs… how much? I don’t know.

We are back to where we started.

It can be BDC proof when CBN gradually withdraws all the FX in the hands of citizens. And this can be achieved by what you said... "Those with dorm account or inflows can only withdraw naira".

Do you know that as at last week, there was scarcity of FX cash and this contributes to the rose in price. Even in banks, people where unable to withdraw FX because there was no cash. But the moment govt said they will intervene, the dollars came back to banks and prices crashed.
Can you say our banks are lazy? They are not just upto the game. Before MONIEPOINT can into the game with their efficient POS terminals, the Big banks only issued POS terminals with a sim protocol; very cumbersome to use in our patchy network. Transactions could easily fail…you get debited but POS terminal says otherwise “failed transaction”

Moniepoint changed the game, they brought in POS terminals with internet protocol. Making it easier and less controversial. Now all the big banks are following suit with internet enabled POS Tetminals.

Same with the BDCs in RMBYUAN remittance to China. I thought our big banks would enable RmB remittance through the government’s currency swap with China. But nothing came out of it.

I think they are only interested in giving loans to state governments.

You're now asking a question that should have been asked from the beginning

I insist that there's nothing in the report that clearly states that the CBN is back to where it was
Honestly I don’t know what you are getting at, but if CBN is letting BDCs back into the FX market, and allow them to buy from FX market and sell within a band, doesn’t it mean CBN will allow them to buy FX in CBN regulated FX market. Aren’t we back to the system of old?

This is the best thing. There is no need having two different exchange rate. No matter what CBN does, as long as the average man can go to BDC and purchase dollar, there will always be disparity between official rate and black market.

What CBN need to do is to ensure that dollar is not in the hands of the citizens. Any one that needs dollar for importation, school or health should go and bank and bank will make the payment for them. All the local schools and organisations that transact in dollars should be discouraged. Some wealthy individuals will just use naira to buy dollars only to pile it up in their dorm accts. All these are part of what is making price of dollar skyrocket at the black market.

If CBN wants to achieve a little stability, they should starve the BDCs of dollar so that the average citizens cannot easily access it.
Spot on! You could even give room to those who want to save in dollars by allowing them to covert Naira to dollar and save in dormicilliary account. If at any time they need to withdraw, they only get the naira equivalent at the days rate. Though this might be controversial but it can be adjusted in a way to give customers the option of Travellers cheque for those needing to travel with cash; and an option to make request for FX cash withdrawal with a waiting period of say 30days…just not sure how this last part would work.

The idea is to eliminate the need for cash FX.
Business folks can settle oversea debts through banks. Local companies needing FX payments can be paid in FX but withdrawal would be in Naira, school fees and medical bill all through bank remittance. BTA in travellers cheque… savers get the FX in dormicilliary account only able to withdraw naira equivalent or cash FX after a stipulated period of wait.

Just a thought… not BDC-proof

The report says, “Under the new framework, the spread on buying and selling by BDC operators is set to fall within a permissible range of -2.5% to +2.5% of the Nigerian Foreign Exchange market window’s weighted average rate from the previous day.”

Doesn’t it mean BDC’s will be allowed to buy FX from CBN and sell within -/+2.5 band ?

In the past they sold 10,000$ weekly to BDCs before Emefiele canceled the policy. NOW CBN IS BACK TO SELLING TO BDC.

Lol....

I just dey laff this CBN, they don't know how these BDCs guys operate. No amount of regulation can keep them in check as there are too many of them who are unregistered and they will be the ones that will make this policy not to work.

Reintro of BDC means CBN will be giving them dollar to sell to the public and there is no way CBN will be able to regulate them.
A simple question, why can’t bank take Naira and process fx remittance for their customers at spread rate introduced by CBN?

The chase for physical, paper Dollar is causing this market distortion.

BDCs have perfected RMB/YUAN remittances, you pay them naira, and they credit Chinese bank account in RMB.

Ease of doing business in this country is nonexistent.

To import you need a SONCAP from SON.
With SONCAP, you can apply to bank for FORM.
With FORM M, you can apply to NCS (customs) for PAAR (tax duty you pay to government.)

Now CBN wants to get in on the act, you need a PVR from CBN to apply FORM M.

Every process is a complete mess in this country.

At each stage of this process you need to sort… otherwise OYO

RomanceRe: A Short Story: How I Dealt With My Independent American Girlfriend by owagbeba: 7:52am On Jun 29, 2023
Patdgreat001:
A brief background

We both live and study in the United States. She's American. Originally from somewhere in East Africa, while I'm from Nigeria. Despite she being older by a year, her beauty, elegance, and classy looks shroud her age, giving her a youthful appearance. More importantly, she's an amazing lady, sweet but inconsistently submissive. It's worth mentioning that we were in a relationship for three months before this intriguing incident took place. That being said, I need your thoughts and contribution to the following narrative.

Incident 1

The weather had been gloomy and cloudy for days, followed by heavy rainfall that persisted. Unfortunately, my girlfriend had the misfortune of getting drenched on one of those rainy days. Normally, such an experience would be fun, reminiscent of our carefree childhood days when we would willingly dance and play football in the rain. However, some of us with strict parents often get scolded, warning us about the potential risk of falling sick due to such "careless" acts.

Oh well! My girlfriend called, with rather an usual low tone voice, asking if I could give her ride to the school clinic. I inquired, she mentioned the rain stuff and her body running temperature. She booked an appointment, picked her up and straight to the clinic. Usually, once an appointment is booked, you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to get checked in. We followed the procedure and keenly waited for the doctor’s call. Hypothetically speaking, we arrived at 1:45 p.m. for a 2 p.m. appointment. However, as time went on, 30 minutes passed, and still no call, no show! I discreetly signaled her to speak with the assistant in case we had been forgotten or there was some sort of mix-up. The nurse assured us that the doctor was on the way. But as 3:30 p.m. approached, there was still no sign of the doctor. Spontaneously, I sprang up, headed towards the nurse's desk, and politely requested her to call the doctor, inquiring whether the appointment needed to be rescheduled or if there was an alternative arrangement.

The nurse asked, "sir, may I have the patient's name and school ID number?"

I immediately gestured to my visibly distressed girlfriend, who was sitting in the patient/visitors corner, to come forward and provide her information. She obliged, and the nurse made the call. In less than a minute or two, the doctor appeared, and they went straight into the office for the check-up. The examination was completed, and the doctor recommended the necessary medication. As we headed to the pharmacy, I noticed a change in her countenance. However, this time, she appeared more angry than sick.

I sensed that something amusing was about to unfold, so I mustered the courage to ask, "Babe, are you okay?" As if she had been waiting for the question, she immediately responded with a statement that caught me off guard:

"I don't appreciate people intervening for me when I'm perfectly capable of speaking for myself. None of my exes have ever done what you just did!"

For a moment, I was puzzled. Her ever-changing "code of many colors" never ceased to amaze me, but this particular statement left me off balance, as I couldn't recall which intervention she was referring to. So, I asked, "What did I do again?" With a tight and determined expression, she told me that I shouldn't have gone to the nurse assistant to call the doctor, at least not without her permission. At that moment, I realized I had unintentionally crossed a boundary. Her sudden outburst left me bewildered, trying to understand the gravity of my actions. I took a deep breath and calmly explained to her that as someone who was unwell and waiting for the doctor for an extended period, I felt responsible for speaking up on her behalf. My intention was to ensure she received the necessary attention. I also pointed out that instead of disregarding my efforts, it would have been more appreciative for her to acknowledge and respect the steps I took to assist her.

However, her anger only intensified. She uttered a barrage of words, reminding me to mind my own business the next time we were in public. She insisted that I should seek her consent before interfering in her affairs. Normally, I would have been tempted to find a place to park the car and ask her to find her own way home due to my infuriation with the absurdity of her statement. But as a gentleman, I couldn't help but grin mischievously.

Incident 2

Since the last episode of this unfolding drama, I had learned to say less in public when we were together. It wasn't because I was a "SIMPle" man, but rather because I knew it was only a matter of time before her self-egoistic confidence came crashing down. Anyways, I was playing PlayStation with my friends when she called, complaining that her laptop wasn't powering on. While on the phone, I instructed her to try a few troubleshooting tricks, but they didn't work. I suggested she come over to my place so we could try to fix it together. Unfortunately, our attempts were in vain, and it became clear that we needed to consult a technician. That's when I unleashed my alpha male mode.

Usually, over here, when you take your gadgets for repairs, you usually have to pay an inspection fee. The cost varies, but based on my experience, it's typically around $150. However, these fees can be avoided if you can accurately identify the specific issue with your computer. In that case, you only need to pay for the required service and any necessary accessories.

Knowing that the problem with her laptop was related to the battery (I was 101 percent certain about it), I decided to remain silent and let her handle the interaction with the technician. As they conversed, I observed the situation closely, suppressing the urge to intervene and save her the unnecessary cost. After the transaction was completed, we got into the car, but I couldn't hold back what had transpired earlier. I informed her that she had just wasted $150 on an inspection that could have been easily avoided if she had mentioned the exact issue to the technician.

To my surprise, my girlfriend became furious and started ranting. In response, I looked her straight in the face and firmly stated that even if such incidents were to happen a hundred times, I would still mind my own business until she learned to understand that I am her MAN, and I don't need her permission to speak up for her when necessary. Somehow, her anger subsided. I also made her realize that when we are in public, we are a team, and I am the captain. As a captain, it is my responsibility to ensure her safety and interest.

Unlike her usual defensive mode, her face softened, and her heart melted. She didn't utter a word until I dropped her off. We haven't discussed the incident since that day, but her guard was down, and she let me take the lead ever since.

Guys, what do you think?
The relationship appears to be a daunting power play at this dating stage. I wonder what it’ll be at the “marriage stage”?

Private POS operators should be VERY wary of this association, and not give them credibility. When they gain popularity, they will be like NURTW, RTEAN, TODAL and NNAMORAL. THEY WILL FORCE PRIVATE OPERATORS TO REGISTER WITH THEM AND PAY DUES. Dues, yes, money - that’s the sole aim of these associations formed in Nigeria. It’s never about members interest and they often have a tendency to force their dues on private operators just like the aforementioned associations.

Next they will begin to bribe law makers and related ministry to get government approval as a regulator of this sector. This is their usual M.O.
