Culture › National Holidays: None Celebrates Our Culture by owagbeba(op): 7:17am On Apr 21, 2023
I wonder why all our National holidays have nothing to do with a celebration of our culture and tradition? Looking at the list of our holidays in Nigeria, it’s obvious all are borrowed from western practices and from foreign religions. None what so ever reflects a celebration of our culture.

Why are we so much into borrowing others practices?

Can’t we fashion our systems of practice based on our culture?

Why must we borrow all our practices?

What exactly is wrong with the request?.

I think the anomaly here should be the leaking of a very private phone conversation.
Oyedepo never made secret his support for Peter Obi
Indeed a reasonable fellow you are. I think question should have been who recorded this conversation: DSS, Telcos. A government arm with access to Pegasus? Someone…a state’s structure with an ability to monitor targeted phone calls, recorded a private conversation between Obi and Bishop, hoping to use this as an ammunition against the LP campaigns.

It’s obvious the ruling party used all available state powers in attempt to secure victory.

PS: Nigeria is known to have bought both Pegasus from the Israelis and another monitoring hardware from Hongkong

I'm sure you still remember how I was planning to relocate back to naija after 27 years in America. My so- called cousin scammed me to ship 3 of my cars to naija. I just stopped talking to him. I'm not surprised tho....I knew dealing with naija can never end with a smile.

BTW....are you still in naija?
It’s pretty difficult living in Nigeria and not deal with Nigerians. How have you been able to deal with the madness?

For me, it has gotten to a point that I can not deal with the market haggling any more. Price tags, please!

Hope you get your money back. Not sure if they have small claims court where you are.
Hi Mr. Mogaji, a few questions for you,

Any reason why we are prone to being dubious in our dealings, despite decades of Christian teachings?

I perceive the Northern / Islamic folks to be more reliable than the southern Nigerians; just a conjecture. Any truth to this?

There are poorer countries whom their people are some of the nicest folks you can ever meet… Ethiopians, Nepalese,Rwandans. Is it tenable to attribute our duplicity to poverty?

Recently, I visited Muscat.. and I found the worst breeds of Nigerians dumped in one lot …. And the funniest part, they attend house Christian fellowship on sundays.. same dude you know to be scammer is praying to God for miracle… how did we get here?

I would appreciate your thought

But some of the countries people are quick to compare Nigeria with have more than 300-year headstart over Nigeria.

We have simply not set ourselves up to compete.

Makes me sweat when I think about all these things, as I desperately want the best for the tens of millions of struggling people who need and deserve better.
What 300 - year head start?

South Korea -colonized, military rule -was on the same par with Nigeria after a destructive war 1950 to 53. Now they surpass us in all indexes.

In Benue, after the circular from CBN yesterday most people are now rejecting the old notes...

I went round feeling stations today trying to buy fuel with the old notes with me but could not, I later saw a lady selling engine oil 🛢 who agreed to collect, I used the whole note to buy oil 😔
Bro, you have stayed long enough in this country with this grade of people running government, and I guess you should be able to predict their moves. Issues of old note will be settled on Monday after Feb 25, and it will remain a legal tender. Although they may retain this cashless policy on steroid. Meat sellers and Vegetables woman are now accepting transfer…soon many will have POS machines.

From now till 25th of Feb, there will be no clear declaration by the government on the old note as a legal tender.

In the old testament different generations
of peoplee observe tithing with different methods.

Tithing shouldn't be any big deal. If it were that important Jesus and apostle Paul would have given instructions on it. Both taught numerous topics bothering on family life, Christian life, government etc but almost nothing on tithing
But the modern day pastors make tithing a focal point in their messages. Not only that, there are numerous appendages to tithing: seeding, blessing, offering, harvest etc..

I wonder if these financial aspects of the ministration were absent, would they still be pastors?

The father as an “educated” lawyer should have known that the next “necessary” step is to request autopsy. Alleging foul play at this stage prejudices the outcome of any medical report on this case.

Finally, this could be a case of heart failure or cardiac arrest. The diseases know no age.

Forgive me Abeg. I am writing an article for small historical analysis and the term ‘Kessing Sheen’ came up. The problem is aside the plaza, nobody seems to know about the actual company.

I’m trying to find out what the business was and what happened to the brand.

Who knows?
Kessingsheen was producing cosmetics: hair pomade, relaxers etc. They were popular in the 80/90s, and a cheap alternative to imported hair creams.

The company didn’t improve quality and design… then china happened. Cheap cosmetics from Asia flooded the market and knocked them out of business.

have you applied for a visa before?
if you haven't then you can't just assume. most of the time we Nigerians have brainwashed ourselves to believe that everything must be difficult and hard even without first trying.
i don't see anything difficult, all the papers and documents these so-called difficult embassies demand are usually normal things but because we are not use to getting things easy we always believe even if we present those documents they will refuse. well at times it may be so, but I have heard and seen many people who didn't present any serious documents and yet they got USA,UK, etc visas
Hangumal aro? Bro, I criss-crossed Kimpo before they built incheon. Lived in harbangchon before they built noksanpyeong.

South Korean visa and entry is not easy.

Getting a visa was not very difficult and it was also quite affordable ($40).
Are you traveling on Nigeria passport? I am quite curious because you said getting a South Korean visa was easy, without a notarized invitation from Korean company?

And again crossing incheon immigration at Seoul easy? Boy…. Either you are on European or North American passport or you are selling your blog.

Hustlers…. Don’t try South Korean entry without a guarantor. When you present Nigeria passport as a first time traveler to Seoul, you will be taking into a room for questioning. They will check your funds, ask you questions about purpose, corroborate your answers with your guarantor’s. Finally if they think you merit an entry, your guarantor will sign a surety. If you fail entry checks… deportation straight!

My wife lost her immeiate elder sister , she left behind 6 children including twins who are 3 months old and a husband , the man is nothing to write home about he had abandoned all 6 children with my inlaws , he doesn't call nor send them money for their upkeep.
My wife is a nursing mother our baby is 5 months her family want us to take over the twins so my wife can nurse them but I refused because I am managing myself to provide for my wife and baby I can't afford to provide for 2 extra babies and my inlaws are not financial buoyant all the responsibility will be on me ,buying pampers and baby formula every week.
My wife is angry and she said I am heartless for refusing to accomodate these orphans.I told my inlaws to report there father to welfare so he can provide for his 6 children they don't want to report him, they said they reported him to God and they are forcing me to take his responsibility when he is alive this is something I can never do.
I don't know what part of I can't afford 3 babies they don't understand , at the moment we haven't renew our rent and I am working hard to get the money to pay the rent and she is giving me attitudes. Do I have a point or I am a bad person for not accepting them?

Brother, when there is a will, there is a way. Never underestimate the power of the human mind to carve out a way at the most difficult of times.

Not helping at this point will be an issue that will cause rancor with your wife and the in-laws. It may rob the happiness of your family.

Please figure out a way to help. At the end of years and you look back at how much you gave up to save those lives, it will bring an eternal joy to you. This is the much you can do for humanity. Our Good lord won’t forget you.

PS: if not for the scams on NL, I would have told you that I will take care of a year’s supply of pampers to the kids.

Our leaders truly have no shame. What’s the state of road from Owerri Airport to Igbere? This is an Airport with no night lights for sun-down landing. Only day light landing allowed. In recent years this airport has become so busy yet no improvements. Each airline stand run their own generator… it’s just down right risible

This people ( the politicians I mean) tend to think the state of their house reflects the situation of the country. No it’s not! Out there people - the people are suffering and toiling to live under a dollar.

Don’t they have empathy on the suffering on display along these roads they take? kids hustling to sell you stuffs along the pot-holed road rather than be in school. Soldiers extorting motorist every 2km on the same road.

Can’t they have a change of heart seeing the suffering of their people? Why are our rich politicians the way they are?

Is the glass tint on their cars so deep they barely see outside their car while they ride along these shabby roads? So deep they barely see the sufferings on display along the roads -Trash strewn streets… disorganized city planning… etc

Why are they so heartless?

Addis Ababa has quite an extensive terminal with functional amenities: escalators, lifts , many piers and also serves as a hub . Abuja doesn’t come close to it despite our oil wealth.
