Wo hen hao! Ni ne?
You still do not understand how China works for someone who’s obviously smart. Well, one would be forgiven for not seeing the silent mechanism of economic hegemony at play because the arm-twisting by the World Bank, IMF on developing and less developing countries (I abhor the phrase ‘Third World Countries’) have caused deep resentments towards those financial institutions notably in Africa and in Latin America. So, the Chinese being adept at winning wars without firing a single shot have chosen to pursue economic, financial, ideological expansions through loans, and initiatives such as BRI - Belt and Road Initiative - a global infrastructural development strategy that currently has 137 countries as members including Nigeria. They say “The borrower (debtor) is a slave to the lender”. The debts could be in terms of infrastructures built, a humongous National Assembly building, an eye-catching African Union building, a fancy-looking train station etc. Someone reading this short piece might think I’m against China’s expansion or hegemony. No! On the contrary I’m in support of it because it’s about time the world had two superpowers for global equilibrium. What I’m against, however, is people deliberately avoiding to use the word hegemony when talking about China - a country where I’ve grown roots in! Call it what it is!
Zai jian!
Wo men do hao. Xiao pengyou, Ni yinggai Yao dong Zhexie
- Zhongguo is only creating an alternative trade part (old silks road) other than the current maritime path somewhat dominated by the west. This effort is to undermine any future trade blockade through the established maritime path. BRI is necessary alternative for China.

- zhongguo currently does not and can not muster significant clout with her economic might like the US to enact penurious sanctions on any country. See how the Europeans and the G20 fell into line with American’s demand of sanctions on Russia. Zhongguo has not attained the hegemonic status yet. I agree she is an economic might but a hegemon, I disagree.

- Economic/financial infrastructure are so controlled by the west to such an extent you that when you send money to a third country that payment has to go through Newyork or London. They own SWIFT, not China

- your statement on the AU building, Assemble building., etc, we in the developing country needs those kind of investments in infrastructure. I don’t see It as a bad thing. The onus is on us to manage and be able to pay our debt when necessary .Beside the Americans won’t build that for you, they will lend you the money hoping you kleptomaniac leaders will steal enough and stash them in foreign banks

Anyway, I like the creation of a multipolar world. I wish they (China) succeed in the creation of this world

Foreign AffairsRusso-ukraine War: Partial Mobilization In Russia by owagbeba(op): 7:31am On Sep 21, 2022
Partial mobilization has been announced in Russia, the decree has been signed.

Vladimir Putin stated this in his address:

Only citizens who are currently in the reserve and, above all, those who served in the Armed Forces, have certain military specialties and relevant experience, will be subject to conscription for military service.

Those called up for military service before being sent to units will undergo additional military training without fail, taking into account the experience of a special military operation.

Xiaohei:
Yes, I’m ‘Little Black’! From my moniker one can tell I do know some Chinese . Your first paragraph makes light of the concerns of the nations engulfed in the South China Sea disputes. I have friends from the Philippines who feel China has laid claims, and is building on islands belonging to them. The same sentiments are echoed by Vietnamese citizens. China hasn’t invaded any country; that’s a fact. And from all indications she isn’t going to pursue American’s style of hegemony. China’s hegemony is economical, not military!
Xiaohei , Ni hao.

China does not control the key institutions - IMF & Worldbank- to be an economic hegemon.

The American and the Europeans are in charge of these key global institutions. They can afford to breathe down your neck and tell you the policy changes you need to make before they grant you a loan. In some instances they even force political changes... remember Greece and PM Tsipras?
TravelRe: China Build World First Desert Loop Rail Line (photos) by owagbeba: 11:49am On Sep 20, 2022
Xiaohei:
I agree with your second paragraph. The first paragraph is debatable and objectionable depending on who you ask. The Philippines, Vietnamese, Japanese and other nations caught in the South China Sea brouhaha would tell you China is seeking maritime hegemony by claiming islands in their own backyards.
Xiaohei ( smallblack), boundary issues both maritime and land have always been with us, and will always be with us. These nations you mentioned share maritime and land borders with China, so such disputes are expected.

I don’t remember China invading any nation in our modern history. Nor have I heard of China imposing her cultural values on other nations. But rather it’s the behemoth from the North Atlantic that have drowned us with woke ideologies as a contemporary cultural value and we “must” all abide or we get canceled. How hegemonic can that get?

Or you think China isn't thinking it? I do read comments from a Facebook page showing developmental updates about China, see the way some Americans have started envying China and blaming their government...
I think you missed the point. China is not interested in hegemony. Their policies have always been one of harmonious coexistence.

They have made technology so cheap that poor countries could afford to industrialize. You can setup a mini sachet -tomato plant in your backyard all thanks to Chinese technology.

Are the transit countries G7 + Schengen nations?

Safer to transit through Turkey, Doha, UAE or Addis if possible

My dear... when you get there, it’s not as beautiful as it appears. Aboki don use shit scatter the roads infront of LASU (badagary road side), across to Franklass road it’s as terrible as it gets. On the side heading the Volks is complete filth and mad agberos. The Iyana Iba market right next to the bridge is just horrid.

I wonder why the state let infrastructures go to ruin. Just look at how they have destroyed the newly built bus stops along the road to Ikeja Along.

-The fences have been pulled
-Facade of the bus stop have been taken off
-Roofing sheets stolen

What’s left is just the carcass of the structure.

Much as the conditions attached to granting such application are strict, yet the courts have granted them in many instances.

Now ask yourself what level of compensation will suffice for a person convicted and have served his terms only for the apex court to nullify his conviction. Can money fully compensate him for the freedom, love, peace, family bond , financial gains he would have had but lost as a result of his detention?
None will suffice in a case of innocence, but not in one where the appellate court nullifies a conviction based on technicality.

I wonder what technical ground Baba Ijesha is using to fight his conviction since the video evidence and victim’s testimony have proven beyond doubt he (Baba Ijesha) did assault a minor?

Yes, a convict can appeal for bail even at the appellate court to the Supreme court if the court finds merit in his application.
If his bail is granted at the CA or SC , and the final judgement affirms the decision of the High court, he will start his sentence forthwith.
I wonder how often appellate and supreme courts grant such bail request from a convict.

Isn’t there a fear that the convict may jump bail, and never serve the prescribed custodial sentence if appellate court upholds ruling?

It does seem wise a decision to grant a convict bail.

What’s the reasoning, if I may ask

He filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
His lawyers are asking for a bail pending the appeal at the Court of Appeal is entered.
It is within the legal right of a convict to make while the court reserves discretion to accept or not.
How can a convict apply for bail? “I don’t gerrit!” Yes, he can appeal his case right upto the Supreme Court. But apply for bail at appeals court when a high court has found him guilty and sentenced him to prison.... I still don’t gerrit?

Don’t trivialize this issues by attributing to a particular ethnic group. This underlines the core failure of governance in this nation where government’s social infrastructures are so inadequate. From Lagos to Aba, lokoja to Ibadan, the same dirt mound along the roads, poor waste disposal and collection system, poor drainage systems, poorly built road network etc etc. it’s a shame we have not figured out governance of the people by the people.

What’s so hard in building proper roads with proper drainages too? What’s so hard in setting up a proper thought out waste disposal mechanism for the society? They so often blame the rains. And the gullible will take their excuses. Doesn’t it rain Miami, why are their roads not washed off during the hurricane season?

They all come to governance with tertiary qualification that are absolute useless, claiming to be engineers and accountant and can’t find their arse hole in the dark with a torchlight in hand. What a shame?

The Core structure of Nigeria as an organized society is broken. Everyone acts like it’s free for all... even the resident foreigners have adopted the same attitude of typical Nigerians... “no shaking mentality ... nothing dey happen”

It’s sad... will multi-party democracy deliver us out of this mess? will a 4-year or 8-year rule overturn decades of maladministration?

Imagine a society where people pee in the middle of a major road, including police officers. It’s gonna be tough to change our mindset.

Foreign AffairsWest Deceived Poor Nations. Most Of Ukraine Grain Went To Rich EU Nations by owagbeba(op): 8:47am On Sep 07, 2022
Developing countries received the minimum from the exported Ukraine grain despite western nations clamor for help to poor nations

Western nations lied when they claimed Ukraine needed access to sea shipping to alleviate the surging food prices and risk of famine in poor countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

Most of the cargoes that came out of Ukraine under a Turkey- and UN-brokered deal with Russia went to the EU, Putin stated in a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia on Wednesday. He added that he terms of the arrangement should probably be changed.

Putin made the remarks in reference to the arrangement allowing civilian ships to enter and leave Ukrainian Black Sea ports to deliver grain cargoes. The scheme was put into action in late July, with Turkey hosting a center that coordinates the deliveries.

The Russian leader noted that the deal was touted as a way to curb the surging global prices and help the most struggling nations. In practice, almost all of the grain shipped from Ukraine went to wealthy EU nations, he said.

With an attitude like this, problems with food availability will only grow worse, Putin warned.

On August 30, the UN Food Program reported that it had sent a second shipment with food assistance from Ukraine. The ship was carrying 37,000 metric tons of wheat grain to Yemen. Putin stressed that just two ships out of more than 80 that left Ukraine were actually traveling on hunger relief missions.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Western nations of failing to remove secondary restrictions on the export of food and fertilizers from Russia after the Ukraine deal was reached. The UN, which co-signed the agreement with Turkey, pledged to use its clout to have the restrictions lifted.

The Vikings don in UAE has been in jail for over two months now. They he’d him incommunicado. I hope he had listened to me to quit this childish game but he didn’t. Now wife, kid are in agony.

UAE opened their heart to us in the early 2000; even in 2010 upto 2015...UAE was fair to us. Then the NigeriaN agents started to abuse this openness; bringing in hundreds of youths to seek for job. Many wanted easy money other than the mundane security and cleaning jobs Dubai had to offer. They left job and setup bootleg liquor sales in park and at rented apartment. The ladies started prostitution. Earlier on it was a bit subtle...sitting a bar waiting for hook ups. They got brazen ...catwalking the city center in wide hips.

That not enough, they started to rob exchange centers, shoplift at malls. It was just too much to bear for any country.

ROSCO became so popular in UAE that they started to deny entries to females of certain age from a number of countries.

The same ills done to UAE by Nigerians have been exported to Bahrain and Oman. There are no jobs in this region. The ladies there are running prostitution rings and bootleg beer joints. Some “agbor” boys are gaining notoriety for their Yahoo, sagging pants and rascality in this sleepy hot desert nations. We should expect more bans for Nigerians traveling to the Mideast

I think we really need to look inward and stop this free-for-all-do-as-you-like mentality. That’s the same mentality that make us do “anyhow” here in Nigeria.

We need to fix Nigeria. I bet you, you can never find this level of poverty seen in Nigeria in these nations like Qatar, UAE, Oman.... even ummalquwain the least Emirate in UAE does not have this level of depravity seen in Ejigbo -at the heart of mainland. See photo 3
