Be humble, to understand and go far in life. . .You can make your points without insulting people who may even be far more knowledgeable than you. Medical laboratories either in hospitals or existing independently as Reference or Public Health Laboratories have multi-professional workforce consisting of Doctors, Biochemists, Microbiologists,MLS etc. nelszx: When you know the difference between a reference/research lab from a Medical lab then we can have a meaning argument. By virtue of degree and license a MLS can work in both without any issue but not the case as regards others so get your facts right. Their are virologists working in LUTH virology research lab but not in their medical laboratory (except those that doubles as MLS). Same way other researchers have developed kits to detect Zika virus and other viruses which is why they are given grants for their researches. |
Career › Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by oyatz(m): 10:53pm On Sep 06, 2018 |
Even in Nigeria, Virologists who are not MLS do work in Medical Laboratories in UCH and other hospitals. Prof Christian Happi, a Professor of Molecular Biology (Not any MLS) carried out the laboratory test at the Virology laboratory, The Redeemer's university that confirmed the first cases of Ebola in Nigeria. nelszx: Do you ķbow who clinical scientist are? They are not fresh school leavers but consultants. They are like consultant biomedical scientist (those who are specialists in infectious diseases or blood science) that are like a link between the biomedical scientist and the physician. More like the lab manager. They tell you if the patient needs more testing or ascertain if your test results are okay as all results go through them to the requesting physician. Or you didn't know a clinical scientist can be a biomedical scientist?
The UK system is so strict that you can't call yourself a "scientist if you are a graduate of any life science courses cos you'll pay a fine of £5000 for doing so. In the medical labs in UK what we have are clinical scientists (who are consultants in various aspect of pathology), the specialist biomedical scientist, biomedical scientist, associate practitioners (intern biomedical scientists), and lab assistants. Pathologists aren't even in the labs as they operate special clinics. The system in the UK is so strict that even if a bsc microbiology does an msc in biomedical science he cant work in the lab or can be called a biomedical scientist let alone a clinical scientist. Since they cant get jobs in hospital labs how then do you expect these set to be working in the lab.
If you know anyone practicing in the UK you can verify my claims to dispute it. Microbiologist, biochemists etc do not near a medical laboratory in the UK. You think the UK is like Nigeria, guy ehn just leave long talk. Make your findings but if you arent pleased, I'd recommend phase1 explain to this to you better.

Prof Christian Happi, a Biochemist (not any MLS) and a Professor of Molecular Biology at the Virology research laboratory of the Redeemer's University carried out the confirmatory laboratory test that helped to diagnosed the first cases of Ebola in Nigeria. The Redeemer's university Virology laboratory established under the guidance and leardership of RU's former VC, Prof Oyewale Tomori(Nigeria's Ace Virologist who is NOT a MLS) is still one of the foremost Viriology Laboratories in Nigeria. So many over zealous young MLS guys like to claim credit for this because they wrongly assume that anybody working in the laboratory that's not medical doctor must be a MLS. . . nelszx: Yes that practice has been happening in some centers but I think it has been stopped courtesy of the NICN declaration of last year "If you want to practice as a MLS, go and study MLS, get a licence and practice"
If you carefully read I have never stated which is superior or inferior (just common sense as both aren't one and same) all the comments it's Oogway trying to talk down (bringing superiority) on us (whatever is his reasons). There was no comment on a talk down from either myself or the other guy (respect begat respect). He can't push and I keep quiet (both professions/professionals are unique and different). Yes I respect doctors so much and have many as friends but hey it doesn't mean when you talk down on my profession I will clap for you.
True and I'm not disputing this, the reason why I said every professional in the health sector with their various specific job descriptions.
Let me burst your bubble here, yeah scientist do diagnose leukaemia and even stage it. Even me if I see a leukemic slide I will tell you the type of leukaemia maybe not stage it (as it may require further testing LAP and immunochemistry). That I was properly taught when I see one I know one. If you show me a Lymph biopsy for suspected lymphoma I will show Reed-Sternberg cells but since its for doctors we leave that to them (At least for the one love in histo).
As the case of ebola if memory serves me right in the wake of the ebola and Lassa crisis who gave the diagnosis that it was Ebola? Pathologists....Hell no (Every doctor was participating in the NMA strike).
Have you ever wondered who are the people in the virology labs in Nigeria (They are not doctors cum pathologists but MLS). Even the FMOH through the permanent secretary then Linus awate, thanked the scientist on the prompt diagnosis (It's documented). When I lay a hand on the site I will modify and share.
This is true despite knowing, "some" for reasons best known don't want to accept this. #Respect |

Sir, I can see that you have a better understanding of Nigerian politics. raumdeuter: Point 1. Sarakis influence is only in Kwara State and if elections is between Buhari and Saraki, the North Central will be split into 2, Buhari winning Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa, Saraki winning Benue, Kwara . Plateau will be close, The NC was split in 2015 Babangida was sitting Governor in 2015 and did you see the vote? There was a 500k difference between Buhari and PDP despite a sitting president and sitting governor in PDP, 2019 will be even worse with Saraki as president
So nothing new here. There is no advantage for Saraki here
2. Saraki cannot deliver 6 NC states max he will get is 3 states.
3. You are deceiving yourself. where were these youths in 2015? Have you forgotten how Jonathan was jogging all over working out in public, buying musicians and actors just to prove he is youth friendly and what did that get him?
4. Public perception this is one of Sarakis weaknesses. He is known to have started from APP, jumped to PDP in 2000, jumped to APC in 2004, now back to PDP. His public perception is that he is unreliable and a snake. He betrayed everyone who has ever relied on him, betrayed Jonathan, betrayed APC by allying with opposition to become Senate president he even betrayed his father. Buhari even till today dis still known for his integrity and anti corruption stand, Saraki on the other hand is known to be corrupt, he oversaw the failure of 3 banks, he ensured budget padding and delay in budget passing, his links to Offa robbery is still there
5. This point is actually laughable. Saraki is the most detested politician among Yorubas. You saw his reception at the ojude oba in Ogun state. The entire Saraki family are hated everywhere in the Southwest. He has always denied his Yoruba ancestry and Hausas have always denied him too like they denied his father. I can even say Atiku will have a more favourable reception in the SW than Saraki
6. Power of which many? How many of them are actual power brokers in their state? All of them have personal ambitions, D you think Atiku who has been nursing the ambition of ruling Nigeria for almost 30yrs when Saraki was still in his 20's will suddenly abandon that and follow Saraki? Or is it Kwankwanso?
7. Which abysmal performance? Many people still believe that under Buhari corruption has reduced and he is doing a good job given the opposition of the senate
The NW, SW and NE the regions will the highest voting population are still with Buhari
Who will Saraki pick as his running mate? picks SE and he can be guaranteed of voting apathy in the SS. The SS were for PDP because of their man Jonathan, now if they have no candidate on the ballot, there is a huge chance Buhari even adds Edo, Cross River and 40% of Delta and 30% in Akwa Ibom |

It would have been easier to market Saraki as a presidential candidate if he is just coming as a successful technocrat with a track record of achievements in the PRIVATE sector with little or no public exposure which can be used to inspire the electorates across the length and break of Nigeria with no serious past negative records which can be used to judge him.
Right now, there are two great factors that will make it very difficult for Saraki to win the 2019 presidential election:
1) His identity crisis 2) His past records in SGBank, 8year Govership of Kwara State and his almost 8year tenure at the Senate. |

Is it wrong or illegal for Tinubu to nurse a presidential ambition or negotiate for power to his(Southwest) region? When did having a presidential ambition become a secret that will need a (prospective) opponent to reveal? Onlybornmacho: I read with relish Dr bukola saraki's narration of some of the events that happened behind the scenes in the 2014/15 election season. in the crazed frenzy to push out Dr Jonathan, strange bed fellows banded together plotting and plotting, and in the heat of the moment things were said without much caution. Now we know that asiwaju Ahmed tinubu divulged his real motives for supporting a known underperformer for president. He evidently had extracted a promise for power to be given to his region... To him after Bulgari. I'm happy to hear this, and I can only wonder what else people said back then. If senator saraki has more information on the secret plots of the tinubus of this world and their gang we implore him to do the patriotic thing and voice them out. You don't fully understand me. 1) Border clashes like the Ife-Modakeke crisis occur all over the World. Kashmir is a classical illustration of this. 2) Internecine /intratribal civil wars like Ibadan Vs Ijaiye war also occur worldwide. The Greek city-state of Sparta gruesomely massacred the citizens of Athens, German Kingdoms of Austria, Prussia and Bavaria ruthlessly fought one another. The bitter civil wars between Banu Hashem and Banu Saud in The Hijaz eventually led to the establishment of the Kingdoms of Jordan &Iraq in the 1920s and Saudi Arabia in 1932. Rivalries between Kano and Hadejia Emirates has led to the deaths of some many Hausa-Fulani peoples. All of these happened not because some peoples were considered non-indigenes but happened as political struggles between various dynasties/power brokers...They were essentially struggles for power, relevance and supremacy. 0balufonlll: - Ife & Modakeke dragged each other decades before colonialists came.
- Oyo completely mauled Egba. Egba & Oyo hated each other. It took colonialists to bring Egba under the ‘Yoruba’ tag. It was bad that the first newspaper was tagged ‘Iwe Irohin Yoruba ati Egba’.
- Ijebu & Egba fought several wars & expelled intenerant citizens in respective towns.
- Ibadan & Ijebu had goo relations for awhile but nonetheless, Ijebu settlement in Ibadan was a place Oyo element of Ibadan kept an eye on.
- Ilesa invaded Ife several times. It took the Modakeke to expel them. Nonetheless, Ilesa founded compounds in Ife (like other strangers quarters) are known & treated as such in Ife.
- Awori & Egba tore into each other acgreat deal when the need arose.
- Egba & Egbado ripped one another apart wheb they needed to.
Examples abound a lot but I’ll pause. There was tribalism & it was not bationalists who planted it. Sorry.
Every capitalist political economy is based on wealth sharing. A good number of Yoruba towns were capitalist states with the monarch being the wealth sharer.
Identity has been argued to be easily instrumental or constructed in wealth/resource struggles. Nonetheless, as long as wealth/resource pursuit predate modern Naija state, tribalism then long existed before 1914 or 1960. |

The Fulani are a powerful minority in Nigeria. Like a virus, which gets into a body and take over the host's system, the Fulani have taken over the Hausalands. Since 1804 when Othman Dan Fodio and his Fulani Jihadists launched 'holy wars' and overthrown the Hausa dynasties, the Fulani have established Emirates over most parts of the core-North. These Emirates councils are mostly composed of Fulani clans. When the British colonists came and introduced the indirect rule, the Emirates councils were further empowered and they were the administrators who were in charge of virtually every thing of values in the North and were the first who sent their children to schools. Today, their descendants are the Emirs, Sheiks &ams, Former heads of States, the Military Generals, Judges, Governors, Custom and para-military officers and in fact, the ruling elites. The Hausas are mostly at the lower classes. SachaBastien: I did not "just type" that. It was actually about 9 hours ago. Zoning is not law in Nigeria. It is simply based on agreements and concessions. It is a common practice globally but Nigeria objectifies the ideology.
Buhari is Fulani and they are a northern minority (numbering about 7.6 million). The Tiv is about 6.5 million, Agatu about 165,000, Igala about 1.5 million and Nupe about 3.5 million. The major tribes in Nigeria are the Igbos,Hausas and the Yorubas, who all number over or about 30 million each. Try to know your country and it's makeup, else you would think a mouse is a lion. |

What you just typed would have been true had it been that there is no zoning in Nigeria. Zoning bring about great ethnic consciousness and make tribal affiliation the greatest political asset. In 2015, if the APC had presented a Northern minority (let's say a Nupe, Igala , Agatu or Tiv) presidential candidate who is very disciplined, and even well educated, they would still have lost. Dr Bukola Saraki's grandfather, Alh Mutairu Saraki once described himself as an Egbaman from Abeokuta who went as a young boy to live with his aunty ,Iya Alaro in Ilorin where the aunty has married an Ilorin mallam and he (Mutairu Saraki) went to Qur'anic school there (as an Almajiri). Dr Olushola Saraki told their own story ,that they are Fulani who migrated from Mali The truth is a mixture of the two...Mutairu Saraki's father or grandfather was most likely a Fulani itinerant nomad who possibly settled at one time in Abeokuta before Mutairu or his father moved to Ilorin. I think Bukola Saraki's father, the Oloye himself, Dr Olushola Saraki decided to discard the family's sojourn in Abeokuta in order to lay historical claim to Ilorin. In 1964, Dr Saraki contested for House of Reps seat in ASA federal constituency and NOT in Ilorin which further shows that the Saraki's claim to Ilorin is a very recent one. Dr Olushola Saraki( whose mother hailed from Iseyin in Oyo state) himself always described himself as Yoruba-Fulani hybrid. SarakiBukola: You are a very smart man, i couldn't have put it any better.
Hausa/ Fulani know very well that Saraki is a Yoruba man.
Yorubas know he's a Yoruba and are resentful of him for pretending not to be one fully.
It's only the easily deceived that still rant he's a Fulani. The Fulanis know what's up
Forget that claimed Fulani ancestry, he's 100% Yoruba. What's questionable is his true religion (quite a lot of Kwarans doubted his religion when he became Governor). |

What many of the Online e-political analysts fail to factor in is that in Nigeria's presidential election, ethnic identity is number-1 factor (very unfortunate) Buhari is occupying the slot of the North and most Northerners won't abandon a core Hausa-Fulani irredentist like Buhari and queue behind Saraki who actually is a Yoruba man with a distant (and possibly questionable) Fulani ancestry. Why didn't the Core North support his father, the late Dr Olusola Saraki in the 1979 NPN presidential primary despite his privileged background, wealth and education but preferred to support Sheu Shagari? Most Yoruba people won't also vote for Saraki (to use the 'slot' of the Yorubas) who though is a Yoruba man but prefer not to identify with the Yoruba people. Standardcosting: Maybe but who will vote him?
He's neither yoruba nor Hausa |
