It's better that you start supporting the young candidates that can solve the problems. Complaining that other eligible voters are rooting for a particular candidate will not help your wishes and aspirations.

People were affected In different layers.
The case you were referring to was a case of the Biafran family bringing in 'Biafran pounds' to get Nigerian pounds.


Now, the problem was that by 1970, Biafran pound was NOT a legal tender anywhere in the world and no country was prepared to accept it. Technically speaking that Biafran currency was actually a worthless piles of papers.


The Nigerian Government was just being magnanimous by collecting the Biafran papers, burned it and gave the holder 20 pounds.



The Gowon Regime could have just played along ,pretended to be unaware of the existence of Biafran currency and allow the Biafrans to discover on their own that they had worthless pieces of paper which they couldn't spend outside Igboland by 1970.
Few months later, Igbos themselves would start rejecting the currency because they wouldn't be able to use it to buy anything from other Nigerians.
By 15-20months later, the currency will fizzle out as Personal collections reminiscent of the civil war.

Awolowo was only premier of Western Region between 1952-1959. During the civil war, Military Governors were the people in-charge of the S/West and not Awolowo.


Awolowo, was not in-charge of feeding Biafrans, so the often repeated allegation that he starved Biafrans is a bold lie.


What really happened was that the Federal Military Government effected a land, sea and air blockade of Biafra to prevent smuggling of weapons into the secessionist enclave.

It must be noted that by this time, the Ijaw, Ogoni, Oron ,Efik and most of the coastal peoples cooperated with the military Government to make sure that this policy worked.

The Gowon Regime provided a safe land corridors for food and other relief materials to reach Biafra with the condition of 100% inspection by Federal Authority, a great humanitarian gesture which the Biafran Authority rejected. Ojukwu, instead preferred air-lifting of food (+ weapons) from Sao Tome & Principle to land at a clandestine 'Airport' called the Uli Airstrip which operated between 12 midnight -3am.

When the 3rd Marine Commando under Obasanjo captured the Uli Airstrip in 1969, it signalled the beginning of the end of Biafra.

The Eastern Region under Dr M I Okpara was then adjudged to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world! Even with the benefit of hindsight, you still persist in arguing the Igbo and political-economy of the then Eastern Region was ‘oppressive, detrimental and wicked’ to the other ethnicities in the region!?

The Ijaws, Efiks,Oron, Ogoni, Ekpeye and Ikwerre agitating for their own Region (COR) which led to the creation of Rivers and Cross River States in 1967 (which forced Ojukwu to hurriedly declare Biafra 5 days later) were acts of self determination and not necessarily anti-Igbo stands.


There wouldn't have been civil war, ifGowon had created the 12 States in Jan,1967.

The Federal Military Government under Gen Ironsi banned ALL political, ethnic unions and promulgated the unitary decree shortly after the Jan-15 coup in an attempts to eradicated ethnic and regional loyalties and foster a sense of National unity.

Actually, it was the former JAMB office in Ikoyi, however Babangida later on returned the Ojukwu's property and all other similarly aquired properties to their original owners before leaving power in 1993.
