The sacking of the residents brought about the end of the NMA strike. Honestly, I've only seen this approach applied during a soccer game by the likes of Alex Ferguson and the Jose Mourinho's. To those of you who don't understand the FG vs NMA game. It's simple, FG sacked the resident doctors knowing that they constitute a larger percentage of medical doctors. NARD then voted massively to suspend the strike, this same phantom brought us live reports from their AGM or EDM, whatever they call it. NARD now is crying foul, claiming they were betrayed, it's all over the internet. It was all in the plan to have them reinstated when the strike is over!

Just so you know, the Yayale Ahmed committee is back from its trip to the US. Consultancy issue is still in court, others will be resolved. There's no winner or loser in this fight. You can only hold your heads in ignominy and face your work

Theodarl: This is what I think. Let me use this opportunity to bring our attention to something that has been neglected for a very longtime in most countries of the world. It may incite ur curiousity if I say there is nothing wrong if other health professionals are called DOCTORS. Yes I said DOCTORS not MEDICAL DOCTORS as the case is for physicians.
If u look at d origin of the word DOCTOR u will discover it came from a latin word. It was used to qualify teachers (learned people).
According to english oxford dictionary, DOCTOR is defined as a person licensed to practise medicine. In time past, the physicians were the only ones licensed to practise medicine as it was d only medical profession available. They did everything solely. They were then given the title DR.
In our modern time, medicine has been diversified. It now spread across many professions. The physicians are no longer the only professionals licensed to practice medicine. For a better understanding of what is medicine please you may open this link http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/info/medicine/.
In a nut shell, the title DR. should be extended to other professionals licensed to practise medicine. The difference would be in the area of your field of medicine for clarification sake. Same way u differentiate a medical Dr from a philosophy Dr as they are both called Doctors.
It is the right of other health professionals licensed to practise medicine in their respective fields to earn the title Dr. Unfortunately, this has been neglected in some parts of the world. Nigeria inclusive.

If you are doctor, mention any doctor you know, including yourself, who left their schools and went straight and esterblish his clinic etc without first of all working with the government own hospitals and steal down, infact as far as to hand gloves before starting theirs. Thereafter, they will call, appraise and describe themselves as occupying the exalted office, as if theves like them, doctors are an inch better than any other Nigerian.

Elythron16zero4: i guess you are blind.did you read the post that attracted my post. what do you mean by pure jealousy. why will i jealous doctors when some okey and bros Nig ltd at Alaba earn millions daily. jealous doctors my foot. with whom i am if i want to study that your medicine i can because i have what it takes to do that. One of my convictions that there is no big deal in studying medicine was that one of my friend who finished with a 3rd class in the biological sciences went back to study medicine and today he is a doctor. so why can't i especially that he and i knows i am academically better than him. i do also know that if not for the restrictions in admission into the medical school,the preponderance of doctors would be better imagined than we see today. If all and sundry becomes doctors then we will become vet doctors because we can treat ourselves and nobody will be the patient. I don't jealous any doctor, but my ordeal with them is that many of them are filled with ego as if no one can attain their heights/fit in life and the arrogant manner in which some of them attend to patients in government hospitals which completely negates how they attend to people in their private hospitals. sometimes,i wonder if they are the same people you see at government facilities. I will be glad if someone can explain the reason(s) for this abysmal variation in character by the same doctors you see in private and govt hospitals. somebody once said they can't do otherwise in private because the owner of the business is there and won't condone any nonsense from any of them but because govt job is no mans job, anybody does as he/she pleases without any sanctions. may be the fellow is right;let the doctors defend themselves. shikina

toysleek: The docs in my hospital were paid 2months arrears yesterday and each consultant got 700k for 2mnths, Senior reg got about 400+..but the Regs were sidelined.it will be fully implemented in January nxt yr.

Straight to the point, the issue of overseas training for the Nigerian doctor has been heralded by a myriad of questions- most unanswered and unattended to. This has necessitated a compendium of what you must know about overseas training as a doctor. I stumbled on an ebook to that effect and it is in the most bit very comprehensive.

So in my usual spirit of doing-the-little-I-can-for-my-fellow-Nigerian-out-there, I'll like to share with medical doctors and students who want to explore career possibilities outside the shores of Nigeria and hopefully come back one day to make the system better than the quagmire it is right now.

D fed govt shud tap into dis tragedy n encourage nigerians to be patriotic.

They know practically more than any Nigerian nurse and yet they intimidate people with useless certificates they gave.
The government should create pathways to enable any Nigerian graduates that excels in the 2nd MB Exams to acquire the medical degree so that we would have enough medical doctors and not a few privileged people holding Nigeria by the jugular.
They want to be paid like senators, please how many Nigerians can the FG pay like the elected Senators and House of Reps members.[/b]

PointB: Before we get swayed by the doctors tantrum, let's not lose sight of their 24 key demand.

Summary of the doctors demands:

1. Create more offices (and more money) for us
2. Don't send anyone to monitor the money
3. Skip level 12, we can't wait to collect more money
4. Refer to Nos 2
5. Pay us 22 years areas of some money, and then increase our wage
6. Expand the health bill so we can make more money
7. Appoint one of us surgeon general so that he can protect us and fight for our money
8. Adjust our level so that we can make more money
9. Increase our call duty allowance by 90%
10. Adjust upward our specialist allowance
11. Increase our hazard allowance from 5k/mnth to 100k/mnth
12. Release circular showing our allowances, all of us must be included
13. When we need to import In-Vitro Diagnostics, IVDs equipment, we don't want knowledgeable institution to check/license it.
14. Tell us our retirement age (obviously they don't want to retire, more money to be made in active duty)
15. We want more funding for our residency training
16. For peace to reign pay our colleagues in Owerri what you agreed
17. We must continue to enjoy the goodies in IPPIS platform
18. Attempt to prevent our collective bargaining (for more money) will be resisted
19. Lab scientist should stop intimidating us (we are the big boys, we make more money)
20. Stop short paying us for any reason (we want all our money in full)
21. Do for us what they do for doctors abroad
22. Set aside more money to furnish our offices (hospitals)
23. Medical director must be a medical doctor (It can not be a pharmacist, dentist, and never a lab scientist). We must chop alone
24. Stop violating our 2009 agreement. Pay us our money!!


There you have it. The two dozen demands of our doctor in plain language. The demands causing our brethren to die at home, and in hospital while doctors stay away. These are the demands making our people to resort to bathing and drinking salt water to death, as they run scare of Ebola Virus Disease, while our doctors prefer to stay at home and wait for their money.

Our doctors have sworn to protect their moneys, while our collective health is the ransom! If gold can rust, pray, what will happen to Iron?
