When I was learning to drive, one of the first things I was taught was to check my oil and water first thing in the morning before starting the car. Now that I own my own car I do that three or for times a week. Ideally, it should be everyday.

I have noticed that most drivers take things for granted and never look under the bonnet in the morning with disastrous consequences sometimes. I know how many times my vigilance has paid off, helping me detect leaky poor quality oil filters. Drivers should spare just two minutes and check their coolant and oil levels to avoid rude shocks from their cars.

They are available here in Port Harcourt. I replaced two in my '99 Camry last year. They were a bit expensive though-26,000 naira each. I am sure you can get them to buy in Lagos if that's where you are.

If you can't find them to buy around town,why not inquire from Inspired M. Just get the part number from the body of the sensor and give him a call.

You are spot on. Many communities on the Anambra side are actually Igala-speaking, but only a handful of Anambra Ibos know that they have non-Ibos who are indigenous to their state.

Air-fuel sensors are best bought new. Any used one might be already faulty or nearing the end of its useful life.

Get the part number on the body of the sensor and contact a reputable Toyota parts dealer.

I repeat, do not buy it used. Do not listen to the mechanic. He just wants to make some money.

You're right, gongo aso. A car is best appreciated when driven.

Clean the throttle body with carburettor cleaner. Also dust out the air filter.

Your engine is starved of air because the throttle body is clogged up with dust.

Looks like you replaced a perfect working radiator with a faulty,used one. Simply have the original one fixed back and save your engine.

Meanwhile, if you ever need to buy a radiator, never buy a used one. I am telling you from experience.

You should have the throttle body cleaned. All you need is a spray can of carburettor cleaner or injector cleaner and a piece of cloth. The throttle body is at the end of the big hose that leads from the air filter.

Undo the hose from the throttle body and spray inside the throttle body with the cleaner and wait a few minutes before wiping it clean, then couple it back and start your engine.

What's happening is that your engine is starved of oxygen because there is too much dust in the throttle body. Also clean your air filter.

Total cost of this operation should not be more than 1500 naira.

Only God knows how many people, otherwise willing to help have been too irritated by his bad grammar to lend a helping hand.

Can an engine really run "cold" in Nigeria? It only takes a few minutes for the engine to get hot, within which no damage can be done.

It takes time for any car brand to build a reputation for quality and reliability. A brand like Toyota is already a by-word for long-term reliability because we can see people driving their 15 to 20 year-old cars around without serious issues.

If in 10 years time we see 2008 Sonatas on the road going strong then we will be able to conclude that Hyundai is indeed a maker of reliable cars. Any new car can perform well, but the true test of a good car is the test of time.

It would be interesting to hear from people who drive newer Mazda models. So far we only have responses only from the owners of older models.

You need to replace your air-fuel sensors. It happened with my 99 Camry and after I replaced the AF sensors the problem was solved. It takes a while before your ECU will adjust to the new sensors and start giving you the the expected fuel consumption though.

There are two of these sensors and they both cost me 54,000 naira here in Port Harcourt. The earlier you replace them the better for you because even though they are expensive, the increase in fuel consumption will cost you more in the long run.

The buyer is a very wise man to have bought a 2m naira car used in Nigeria from a stranger without first inspecting it. Case closed.

Inspite of the higher degrees Nigerians amass there is no visible positive effect on the society. It's all for personal advancement really.

Many people here say the guy should have just walked away in the face of such extreme provocation. I laugh, Its obvious they have not been in such a situation before, and I know that the medicine for such a violent woman is "fire for fire'' because if a guy walks away the woman will see him as a weakling and her violent tendencies will only get worse. My colleagues and me were discussing about this issue of quality of fuel in Nigeria just yesterday, Friday. The best mileage I can get from my V6 car is about 14mpg driving in the city even though a recent scan gave it a clean bill of health. It is supposed to give 20mpg for city driving from what I gathered on the Internet. It is clear the fuel we use burns too fast.

Nothing do the AC. Never had reason to work on it. I intend to keep the car for two more years.

When I bought my '99 camry (V6) in March 2009 it had 206,000 + miles on the odometer. I have since added 18,000 miles nearly 3 years later.  The most expensive replacements have been the radiator, air-fuel sensors, windscreen and shocks. I also replaced the timing belt as a proactive measure. Other repairs include exhaust pipe welding, change of tyres, rotors, brake pads.

I have also repaired the power windows four times and the central lock twice.lol. It's not as if it's a troublesome car, afterall it has never left me stranded except for a few times the battery head was not making proper contact. Not once was I unable to drive it to and from work. The car has been a good learning experience and my next car will not have a mileage anywhere near this one's.

If you are going to buy that car, then the seller should lower the price considerably.

The OP has the right to freedom of speech so the dealers should not get unnecessarily agitated. I did a check on Yahoo Autos for a 2008 camry, mileage around 60k miles, location Maryland, zip code 027103 because I have friends there.

I came up with several within the price of about $10,000. Those who are knowledgeable in shipping cars should please do the math and tell us how much this should cost after shipping and clearing. I am asking this because I inquired from a dealer and he said a 2008 Camry of 60k miles would cost 3 million naira, which I feel is too much.

The OBD scanner is the babalawo of the modern car. For 5,000 naira one can have their car scanned and the faults diagnosed to get to the root of the issue.

In November I had my '99 Camry V6 diagnosed after noticing consistent excessive fuel consumption over several weeks(about 30 per cent more) even though the "check" light had gone off. I did discuss this with Siena via Yahoo Messenger btw. The codes P1130 and P1135 came up. AF sensor, bank 1 was bad. The mechanic advised me to replace the two sensors. I bought both for 54,000 naira and had them fixed (they are so easy to replace btw) and the scan was done again the result was a clean bill of health. If I had my own scanner I would have replaced them myself.

The problem did not immediately go away, but after more than a month the fuel consumption returned to normal. @ Siena maybe you can shed some light as to why it took some time for the effect of the new air-fuel sensors to kick in.

@ OP, do a scan and find out what the problem is.
