@ nissparts, please, please don't try to scare people off V6 cars. The timing belt on my V6 '99 Camry took only a few hours to replace, and the mechanic did a perfect job.

dmainboss, I agree with you. Nigerians make such irrational purchases and try to justify them. For instance there is this man in my church. He lives in a BQ with his family and drives a '98 Camry. That's ok. He recently bought a Sienna for his wife and brought it to the church for prayers. I thought he would be more concerned with moving into a house of his own, but that is a Nigerian for you.

I showed this video to the folks in my office and they were all reluctant to condemn this man's action. This shows how much of a grip the pastors have on the psyche of the "God-fearing" Nigerians.

The fuel quality issue is quite serious. I read reviews of car owners in the US who report mixed driving mpg ratings of about 22 mpg for a V6 car and I just shake my head because I know rom experience that it's not possible in Nigeria.

Hello people. Being a car owner I look forward to 1 January 2012 with some amount of dread because it is the day from which the price of petrol is expected to more than double.

I have owned a '99 Camry (V6, 3.0l engine) for over 30 months and it came with the check light on. I did not know the full implication of the light until much later, and I kept on postponing doing a scan. From what I read about the check light on the Internet I deduced that the oxygen sensor had gone bad suspected it was responsible for the rather high fuel consumption of the car which got even worse recently -about 10mpg for city driving! It should be 20mpg.

I therefore went to do a scan yesterday and below are the results of the scan:

P1130: A/F Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P1135: A/F Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1).


So it's now confirmed that I need to replace my oxygen sensors which had gone bad. If I had replaced them much earlier it would have saved me a lot of money. I need two of them and the supplier says they will cost me 25,000 naira each. It felt like a kick in the ribs but I have done my calculations and I know I will make a lot of savings in the long run. I am picking the oxygen sensors tomorrow.

So peeps let's do what we can to make it easier on our wallets by making sure our cars are in top form as 1st January 2012 approaches.

When your brother stole your car and sold it did he not remember who's car it was? He has acted criminally and should be treated as a criminal. It's so strange the kind of values people have in Nigeria for them to think that if your brother steals from you then it should be kept in the family. This guy took it out of the family when he sold it to an outsider.

Career women are really having it rough with house maids. The women in my office keep changing them and complaining. It seems quite difficult for them to find a suitable maid. I for one do wonder how they can leave their child in the hands of a total stranger and go off to work.

@ Siena, I experience the same problem as donfidel with my V6 '99 Camry. The problem went away for a while after I replaced the spark plugs and resurfaced recently. It causes a low vibration when the car is idling in traffic. I thought it might be the fuel filter and replaced but the problem still persists. Your thoughts please. thanks.

@ Siena, did you say alternative fuel is free? Nothing is free in Nigeria I tell you. Our people are very sharp. Once they detect that the oil they were throwing away has value they will start selling it to you, even adulterating it to increase its quantity.

@Eretare, Benue does indeed border Cameroon. This report however is dubious because even in the Vanguard of today where I saw the story, it is tucked away in page 3. I expect that such a big story would make the front page. Also I have not yet heard it on the electronic media. The real situation should get clearer in a few days I hope.
