Car TalkRe: Japanese Or German Cars- Which Do You Prefer And Why? by pannyman(m): 8:18am On Oct 23, 2013
Well, I have only driven Japanese so I cannot make a comment about what it feels like to drive a German car.

However, I do know that the German cars have a reputation for being over-engineered and expensive to maintain, which counts against them in the minds of many car buyers.

jdilight: Is this how unprofessional our professionals are, quoting without research. Anyone who has been in the 4 walls of university knows that this is a big lie.

ASUU strike has reduce prostitution by more than 30% quote me anywhere. Even known student prostitute, where will dey operate from? what those that do the prostitutional arrangement, where will the operate from?

Nigerians hmmmm!
Bros, you are not current o. We are now talking of prostitution by electronic means. Blackberry phones come in handy as social media can easily be used to link up with prospective customers. The girls don't need physical "offices" to operate from.

Idleness + penilessness among girls can easily lead to prostitution. Badoo subscription in Nigeria must have really shot up in recent months.
Car TalkRe: My Car Vibrates At 80kmper Hr by pannyman(m): 12:21pm On Oct 03, 2013
@OP, it's always a good idea to start with the simple stuff first. It might just be that the calipers are sticking. Do your brakes heat up and raise steam when you drive through water? If so have them serviced and see how it goes.
Car TalkRe: Where Can One Get SAE 5W30 Engine Oil Here In Nigeria...? by pannyman(m): 9:54am On Sep 26, 2013
@OP, if you are based in Port Harcourt you can buy 5w-30 oil from a guy at Ikoku (08038896515) or from Purple Synthetic Lubricants (07066721662). Costs two thousand naira per quart (approx. 1litre). It's a good thing we are all becoming better aware of how to maintain our cars smiley.

Guys please let's make use of our brains. How do you inject kpomo with this chemical? How do you get the chemical to circulate within the stuff? Let's assume it was soaked in the chemical, then how do you get rid of the smell?

Let's desist from believing everything people post online.

@Joel, your account would be very hilarious if it weren't so serious considering the amount of time and money already spent. Any attempt to remedy the situation will only result in even more expense. I suggest you cut your losses and sell the car for whatever it is worth. Take heart bro.
Car TalkRe: What does the Mileage On Your Car Read.??? by pannyman(m): 11:22pm On Aug 27, 2013
Ace Ventura: My Honda Pilot 2003 is approximately 190,000km & I never enjoyed the car due to bad roads in my area but all the same, it's a good car with plenty of power under the hood.

Just bought a 2004 Toyota Avensis about 3 months ago with a mileage of about 80k & she's a real beauty. Serviced it with Mobil 1 engine oil & she's been a real life saver. I'll use it for another 8,000km - 10,000km before servicing compared to the 5,000km for basic engine oil.
Mileage doesn't matter provided you attend to your car on a regular basis. I boarded a cab in Dubai last year with a mileage of 750,000km & it still looked sharp. The state of the roads also contributes immensely to the life span of your vehicle.
I don't get it. I thought the SUV would serve you better due to the poor state of the roads in your area.
Car TalkWashing The Fuel Tank. Is It Necessary? by pannyman(op): 11:37am On Aug 20, 2013
When does it become necessary to wash the fuel tank of a car? I ask this because I know that the fuel we buy does contain some dirt. I have noticed some of this when emptying a jerry-can of petrol into my generator.

I have used my car for more than four years now, so I keep wondering whether there is already a sediment of dirt in my tank that I need to get rid of.

A lot of stories have been told of how he supervised the massacre of the male population of some place in Asaba or near Asaba. None of the people who peddle this story on Nairaland was there, and the man, Murtala is not alive to defend himself. It is always easy to accuse the dead because they cannot speak. Well, one day we will all give account for every word we have spoken.

Car TalkRe: Gear Problem With My Honda Accord by pannyman(m): 3:05pm On Jan 21, 2013
Abdulkadir might just be right. These quack mechanics do a lot of guesswork. I have a problem with my Camry at the moment and after the illiterates finished monkeying with it, it's now in the hands of a true pro who did a scan and discovered that 5 out of the car's 6 cylinders are not working!

I thought it was the transmission but I was wrong. The mechanic wondered how the car was able to move.

OP just do a scan and save yourself stress.

elite: Just had a shocking revelation!!!regarding the wbsite u gave above and autocheck!!! :ojust checked a vin and discovered conflicting results!!! Autocheck reported 21000 miles last odometer reading and ur website above reported over 204000miles last odometer reading for the same car, 03corolla!!! Dates last reported are april12. Wat is d meaning of all thesehuh!!!
Yes o. I don't trust all those Autocheck and Carfax reports any more. A friend whom I introduced to a highly respected dealer here on Nairaland bought a car after the Carfax report was presented together with pictures of the "clean car". Although the car had not had any issues, when I discovered the website I just did a check only to discover that more than a year before the car was sold to her its odometer read higher than what was stated in the carfax report and on the odometer when it landed in Nigeria.

The dealer was probably deceived too by his American-based partners.

By the way, I also discovered a link for Lexus owners and hope to post it here soon.

dabigwalls: Please note, 206,000 miles = 329,600km. That is, the car has been driven round the continent of Africa 2-and half times over. It is the Camry of all Camrys. Their Lord and messiah.
Such mileage is not uncommon. My '99 Camry currently has a mileage of 230,800 miles.
Car TalkRe: Ridiculous Mileage Of Tokunbo Vehicles by pannyman(m): 11:05am On Nov 26, 2012
A colleague at the office recently bought a '97 Camry with a mileage of about 73,000 miles. I got really curious and went to this site, http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home to check it out. The last bit of maintenance that was recorded was in 2009 and at the time the mileage was 206,000 miles! When I showed it to my guy he was shocked and told me that the person who sold the car to him was a trusted friend.

Well, we don't know whether his friend had a hand in the rollback or not. Anybody can crosscheck the maintenance records of a Toyota car they wish to buy from the US or from a Nigerian dealer who imported a car from the US via this link: http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home. Just register using any address and enter a US city with matching zip code.

Even VIN records can be forged, trust me. I have done quite a bit of research on this matter.

onatisi: in any country where the cost of mobile internet connection is very very cheap, definitely bb wont make any imact there but in countries where the cost of mobile internet connection is killing ,believe me bb will always remain the number one choice for mobile subcribers, how many nigerians can afford to send 10k on internet data in a month with iphone and other androids, but with bb and a minimal amount of 2k you can be on the net for 30days
the major reason whyy bb is and will continue to rule the market is because of their chea connectivity rate
You are absolutely right. I am an android user but i recognise this fact.

There are still a few decent spare parts shops around. That's the beauty of Nigeria-in the midst of the rot you still find some reason for cheer once in a while.

There is this guy i discovered in Port Harcourt at the spare parts area called Ikoku. It was while i was looking for air-fuel sensors for my car and had almost given up that somebody directed me to him. His name is Amaechi and he even has an internet connection in his air conditioned shop and orders parts from the US.
PhonesRe: Nokia Lumia Is Now Available In Nigeria by pannyman(m): 4:45pm On Oct 01, 2012
One wonders why Nokia did not promote their Windows phones in Nigeria earlier given the customer loyalty they enjoy here. Samsung took full advantage of their lacklustre marketing and gained a foothold in Nigeria.

Nokia just wants to offload its inventory of WP7 phones before it introduces the WP8 phones.

I think over there in the UK where you are sure of the quality of materials and workmanship you don't have to be so careful. I have on three occasions discovered an oil leak, the culprit a poor quality oil filter.
