If I had an expectation that you were reasonable in making your input, I do have responded with a more sensible post to you. How you silly drones keep jumping to conclusion leaves little to the mind to be questioned on. Even before the poster made a topic to the 'modify button' it had already been discussed here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-245749.192.html and the same thing I said here, and I said it there. The functions can still be overidden by the Admin, and a timer set.
This means a post made lets say 5 minutes ago can be modified, after 5 minutes have elapsed, then it can't be altered.
So, the time frames posts can be modified can be from any time till infinity, at the Admin's discretion.
Very plausible and reasonable.

RomanceRe: She Dumped Me And Now. by Pataki: 11:28pm On Mar 28, 2009
@ Poster,

There are many sides to your story. Taking a retrospective look, she was much younger and naive. She gave you the reason that because you were a chain smoker and an alcoholic, she wanted to terminate the relationship. If indeed, that is true, she is within her moral rights to demand for such then. What I however now question, is why she wants a come-back with you - from what you posted about her and her actions on facebook.

The truth is that, you still have a soft spot for her. You might try to cover it with internet words and actions, but deep in you, you wished things had not gone the way it went.

What is the way out? Sit down and talk to her. Explain why you feel offended with her. That you stated you are no longer interested in girls and blocking ''your little heart'' to relationships gave you away that you still on hold-on to that relationship as far back as 2003/2006. You are not hurting her by keeping your emotions bottled-in and feigning ignorance to her text messages and facebook actions. Rather, you are hurting yourself. Own up and tell her the way it is with you. It makes things a lot more easier for you guys.

Cheers.

Huh? Pataki? huh[/quote]Did you miss the part I said, ''refer whomever you want to give your identity to send you a request, and from there take things on.''? A false identity could be interpreted as 'false identity on nairaland' (as you implied) OR 'a false email contact' (which I meant). If you closely read what bluespice stated previous to my replying her, you would know I never meant a double identity on nairaland, as that was not the direction of our discourse.

So must I crack your brains before you comprehend? cheesy tongue

But based on what I have seen from web based forum and occurrences from the abuse of 'modify button', it should be removed.

On facebook, you are allowed to delete your posts, pictures, comments long after you've made them. Its an option that comes in quite as handy as the modify tab.
The only option, I think is missing here is the option to delete your profile off the forum once you are no longer interested. Deleting your posts on facebook is solely different from editing your posts. Does facebook, youtube, and some other web-forum allow you to edit your posts? NO. Does it allow you delete your posts? YES. Certain blogsites may allow you to edit your previous posts, but I have not come across such on web based forum except for nairaland.

spikedcylinder:
All that to give someone an email address? huh undecided Isn't having double identities against the rules? And who's the modify tab really hurting? You've admitted to using it a few times yourself so whats the big deal? Not everyone is expected to have literal savoir-faire like you. wink
No no no. . . . . you are not getting me right. I never meant creating double identities on nairaland. I actually meant, ''e-mail'' contact. Why create a false identity on nairaland and still give out your identity details to spammers which would still be used for contacting you? Does that make sense? undecided

to be candid, this is not logical. Imagine everyone making new posts just to correct grammatical errors in their initial post. The whole place would be a mess.
Assumably, you might be right. However, the point is that, one should be mindful of what you post. Who does not make grammatical errors? I recall being banned at one time and there were grammatical errors with the statement from the administrator when writing my ban. cheesy

Grammatical errors are not the only thing being modified from posts, that point should be stated clearly. Posters as well modify their original input which I have earlier stated and which at most serves less credence and disadvantage to the original intent and purpose of the poster and corresponding responses.
Nairaland GeneralRe: www.babefishing.com: Nigerian Free Dating Site, Find Nigerian Free Love now by Pataki: 9:35pm On Mar 28, 2009
The 'modify button' should have long been removed since. What is the point of posting and going back to edit your posts? If you made a mistake with your earlier submission, make corrections to it in the following posts.

There have been numerous occasions and instances, where posts as far back two years ago, are still being modified by posters till when the modification button was removed. This in my view, does not add credence and consistency to the site. It makes it look like a child's play when posters, incessantly modify their posts, more importantly when corresponding posts by other posters do not tag along with the modified post from the original poster.

I clearly recall, there was a thread which I noticed, a poster made a topic with the body of content to the topic. Respondents to the topic, addressed the topic and it's body of content. The original poster to the topic, went back to modify the whole topic and the body of content, making it all confusing. This should not have been so, if there was a no ''modify button.''

It is an act of 'superior mental laziness' if posters continually have a recourse to keep modifying their posts. If a post is going to be modified, it should be subject to a moderator or the administrator of the site. The 'modify button' has been misused in several instances, and it should be removed.

My submission.

Naturally, it takes a concerted effort for me to remember birthday. More importantly, when she is now my ''ex'' that the relationship was dreadful and a living horror? I simply just allow it to pass. Even if it comes to mind. Like today is the birthday of one of my ex (just remembered now grin). Why should I bother to send her a text or call her? undecided

PoliticsRe: Critiquing Sahara Reporters by Pataki: 8:49pm On Mar 28, 2009
Jarus:
This news site has suddenly risen to fame as a source of news-behind-the-news in Nigeria.
Many Nigerians take this site as the most reliable source of undiluted news in the country.
But how credible are these reports? Why are they always reporting negative news about the country?
Unfortunately, we live in today's world, where 'bad news' is 'good news.' And in a country like Nigeria where, 'bad news' from the activity of it's government and leaders is the order of the day, it would only enhance the reputation of Sahara reporters for their penchant to quickly reveal it to Nigerians and the whole world.

Again more importantly, investigative journalisms into clandestine activities of the Nigerian government and even ''reputable'' Nigerians with affinity to corrupt officials has eluded Nigerians right from the Military era. Taking a recall to how Dele Giwa was murdered, just to juggle the memory. Having it being revived through the power of e-journalism, even if it so appears ''witch-hunting'' in some quarters, makes it delightfully refreshing.

However, Sahara reporters in itself, are sometimes poor in their editing of their report. This does not add any form of credibility to their website. I came across this particular article from their site, and I wondered, why should such an article be poorly written, without proper editing of the report, before posting it on the world-wide-web.

Please, get rid of the ''modify'' button permanently. Don't underestimate the value of reading spontaneously produced posts in their original form.

At the very least, you should have a way of flagging that a post has been modified.
Exactly my thoughts. The 'modify button' does not create for consistencies in whatever ways it is viewed from. It should be removed totally. Still the call of the admin though. undecided

Facebook, youtube, and various other web forum, does not give you the liberty to modify your posts once posted. As not only spammers, but even regular users to the forum tend to mis-use it for nefarious acts.
