agaugust: There was war in Angola for 26 years in your SADC region, ended in 2002, South Africa did not have the courage to send in your spineless SANDF to help Angolan government since 1994 that ANC took power.

SANDF has a reputation for avoiding big wars that need more than 4,000 soldiers grin grin

.
.
The ANC knew that sending the Army who fought alongside UNITA to destroy UNITA would cause serious problems.

And we had just spent 25 years at war. We were enjoying peace and prosperity.

Go fight a major conventional war for 25 years and then come back and talk to us.

agaugust: Are your mercenaries the ones that your army deploys, e.g. in AU, UN, SADC ?

Most country has veterans and mercenaries, Nigeria has them aplenty from ECOMOG 12 year long war.

This forum's topic is not about African mercenaries and PMCs, it is a military thread, official national military forces of countries.

South African armed forces have no new achievement in the last 20 years of cowardice and almost zero activity, that is why you people are so frustrated you start posting World War II history or private company mercenaries.
.
This guy is acting like 20 years of peace and peacekeeping is a bad thing.

Its not a good thing that Nigeria and your part of Africa is an unstable, war-riddled sh1thole

One T-72 tank today's 2014 price costs $2 million, so your $400 million peanut money will only buy the 200 units of T-72 tanks on your list.

That long list will cost you $ 1.7 Billion....M..ORO..N grin grin

You dont seem to understand the situation in South Africa

No politician in his right mind will allow aquisitions to commence before the Sereti Comission is complete.

Why do you think Zuma started the comission after all these years?

Henry120: Defence Review gathering dust in Parliament gringringringrin

Maynier points out the Review, originally known as the 2012 Defence Review because that was when it was supposed to be completed and tabled in Parliament, eventually made it to the National Assembly as the 2014 Defence Review early in July.

"The Review has been gathering dust in Parliament for nearly three months. The Joint Standing Committee on Defence must make recommendations to the Minister (Mapisa-Nqakula) on the Review."

the critical state of decline of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF)," he said.
gringringringrin
The SANDF is putting the policy in place allready

Its just a matter of parliament rubber-stamping the documents

You just said 3 times in 1 day on this forum that Wikipedia is not acceptable source proof of Nigeria's cluster bombs. So you now use same Wikipedia as source to 'prove' South Africa is an 'advanced' country?

Mr.Patrick Mokopa !!!

.
Also, North Korea is not an NIC

I used it to introduce you to the notion of an NIC

If i wanted to prove South Africa is an NIC i could just have posted this:

or this

Henry120: It is also a very visible target for Fighter air-crafts. I don't think you'll be able to respond when this system is done with you (the enemy).

The idea behind this system is to totally overwhelm the enemy. I do not believe the enemy can respond after from his position after this.
It will overwhelm a portion of the enemy

But as long as they have arty or air left, you got allot of hate coming back at you

Plus all the dust and smoke it kicks up will be a massive homing beacon for any air-assets in the area (or responding)

But yeah, the ground forces who get hit by that will be fvked

Experienced soldiers dont get paid more than un-experienced soldiers.

Your hitting a logical phallacy that you need to go into combat to know how to do your job.

Limited intergration

Its ready to go, just there isnt any in our arsenals as we dont need them at the moment, and the cost of acquiring a significant number of Mokopa - at R1 million a pop - is not worth it.

Henry120: You keep dodging and dodging, Are you sure you aren't a South-African politician?

You know what the question is, Just answer it and stop dodging.

Again, you claimed the Makopa missile is in active service with your Armed forces, do you stand by this comment, despite IHS janes stating unequivocally you(SANDF) has no makopa missiles in their arsenal?

Answer this simple question.
You can keep asking

And you will get the same answer

Its in service but not in use.

Simple as that.

And you accuse me of telling lies? Well then substantiate that statement.

agaugust: You can travel to North East zone and find out by staying under Alpha Jets releasing bombs so you can prove if it includes cluster bombs too....just write your Property Sharing Will before you go becasue you won't be alive to write the bombing story after you witnessed it
.
Or you could just show us proof
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:38pm On Sep 29, 2014

Where?

Point it out

agaugust: Your above comment admits I showed first source that says we have them and second source that says we used them.

Third source will have to say Mr.Patrick Mokopa got b.lown to 77 pieces by Nigerian cluster bombs....because that's the only thing remaining to do

.
First source is wiki - and is about as much good as some toilet paper with your writing on it

Second source says that you used them once - 17 years ago.

How long has the nigerian army been in combat?

And you use it only once?

Lol, what you had is no more.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:36pm On Sep 29, 2014
Henry120: errm patchy the pirate, when you made the comment SANDF has all the money and can afford everything, you didn't quote any source.

Again, you have claimed on many occasions IHS janes is the most trusted source, are we now not to accept IHS janes as a source?

While the Rooivalk is now operational, it still lacks the 10,000 m-range Mokopa laser-guided missile expressly designed for it by Denel Dynamics because there is no funding to buy the weapon.
Because funding has been channeled into getting things we need

Feel free to point out all the large tank formations that the SANDF has to do battle with

The weapon has been intergrated and is waiting for when we need it.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:33pm On Sep 29, 2014
Henry120: "The original intention had been to build 36 Rooivalks for the SAAF, but that was cut to just 12 when defence funding was slashed after 1990."
Yes, and what was the SADF doing in 1990?

How big was it?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:32pm On Sep 29, 2014

agaugust: SANDF should defeat Rhino Poachers in Kruger park first, then after that you go to Bangui for rematch with Seleka rebels. If you succeeded in getting your army's Gecko vehicles back and use it to carry the dead body of Warlords Harkouma and Djotodia to @THIZA's photography studio for Hollywood show on Nairaland, then come talk to us about what SANDF plans to do with African Islamic terrorists. grin grin

.
Still going on with your straw-man argument that anti-poaching is SANDFs primary duties?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:31pm On Sep 29, 2014
Henry120: You've been saying it is in service, but according to IHS janes, they aren't in SANDF service.

So is IHS janes telling us lies?
No, Janes says that they are not in use.

Henry120: MikeZA, but you said SANDF has Makopa missiles in active service, so what's happening with all the reports stating you're too broke to afford them. So does this mean, you and "patchy the pirate" have been lying all along?
In service

But not currently in use

Why is it so hard for you to grasp this?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:16pm On Sep 29, 2014
Henry120: "Patchy the pirate" gringringringrin. Not my words, that's what your fellow south-african calls you.

You said South-Africa is soo rich and can afford whatever you like,

How come we keep reading from multiple sources that SANDF is too broke to buy avaition fuel, too broke to pay staff, too broke to buy mapoka missiles, too broke to fund anything

Does this mean, you were lying to us?
And yet we just spent R4 Billion on training our new intervention formation

and extended Anti-Piracy duties up the west coast... all the way to Nigeria?

Think before you post
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 1:35pm On Sep 29, 2014
agaugust: Argue all you want Mr.Patrick Mokopa, I don't care, I have posted sources and it's enough proof.

NAF has cluster bombs, I did not say only Beluga type. No arms sales log records any country's cluster bombs. Every country can stock whatever clusters it wants. Nigeria has them, how many types is not revealed. Fact remains we have them

Nigeria is NOT France, my first source says Nigeria still HAS and HAS stockpiles of cluster bombs, and did not say only Beluga.

NAF Cluster Bomb is NOT SAAF Mokopa The Fake grin grin

.
Your first source is wikipedia

You have no over source that states you have cluster munitions, apart from one that says you used them once... 17 years ago.

agaugust: South African authorities back up the Minister claims, your SAAF chief is only doing damage control to a leaked defense secret.

"March 13/13: Fighters. Opposition Democratic Alliance MP David Maynier recently forced the ANC government to acknowledge that 12 of its 26 delivered JAS-39C/D fighters were in long term storage. In reality, the SAAF’s fighter problem is even worse than that. He sums up the situation this way:

"The sad facts of the Gripen system are as follows: 26 Gripen fighter jets were delivered; 10 or fewer are operational; 12 are in long-term storage; there are six qualified pilots; there are about 150 flying hours available to the entire squadron for 2013."

#SouthAfrican Airforce Is A PaperTiger grin grin

.
Artical published before the Airforce Cheif Whip clarified the situation, which is why i specifically said:

patches689: Post a source published after the Airforce Cheif clarified the situation before parliament and the Farlam inquiry
In September of that same year (which comes first? September or March?) - the Airforce responded, to the DA in parliament that

- 18 Gripen Pilots
- Gripen had flown over 3 500 hours
-52 Hawk Pilots
- Hawks had flown over 10 000 hours

Are you so obsessed with South Africa that you dont care about what is correct and what is incorrect?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 12:48pm On Sep 29, 2014
agaugust: Cluster bombs are NOT recorded by UN, IISS, or SIPRI, same way all unguided bombs sales are not recorded or reported in any arms log.

All the other countries on the list like Ethiopia and Eritrea, show me SIPRI record of their purchase of cluster bombs !

If Nigeria has no cluster bombs, then the whole world too does not have it. Simple.

I posted two sources that say Nigeria has cluster bombs, Wikepedia you refused to accept, and I gave you an authority that records combat use of cluster bombs around the world in modern times, and Nigeria is recorded to have it and use it. That is a source respectable and reliable, it is a British website and declares that Nigeria has British Beluga Cluster bombs.

There is NOTHING you can do about it, Nigeria has cluster bombs !

Be angry about the obituary and burial of your still-born dead Mokopa Missiles....Rooivalk is a toothless 'dedicated' attack helicopter tongue tongue

NAF Alpha Jets pilots have consistent 24 years of air to ground bombing experience all over West Africa in five different wars.

12 units of NAF Alpha jets flying at 12km altitude above sea leavel are all beyond reach of your 10km maximum altitude of Valour Frigate Umhkonto anti-aircraft missiles, so we cluster plaster your Navy in Gulf of Guinea with cluster bombs showering thousand of Bomblets pouring down like rain all over your navy, spread over your warships like a wide 10 km sq area blanket of death landingand e.xploding on your own ammunition on ship deck....Umkhonto missile vials, and Exocet missile launcher tubes until your own missiles begin to explode and b.low up your own warships in the Gulf of Guinea and sink all Valour ships to sea bottom....Welcome to the Lion's den, Nigeria rules there !!!

.
You have no source that you have cluster bombs

Only that they were supposedly used once, in the 1990's

How long was that war?
How long have you been fighting BH?

And you used them only once?

You dont have them.

Show us a source that says you have them - you have none. You only had enough for one single usage (if you had them at all)

France apparently destroyed its stock of Belouga cluster bombs between 1996
and 2002. However, these weapons were sold to Argentina, Greece, India and Iraq, and
some likely remain in service today

Furthermore, the Belouga is designed for low level and low speed deployment

The Belouga (source ofthe name could come from the acronym, or a whale or caviar … comments welcomed) is
low drag and intended for high speed, low level delivery . The bomb has a small braking parachute to slow its speed and hold it horizontal prior to ejection of the sub-munitions.

http://www.ultracast.ca/products/BelcherBits/Aircraft/BB027/Belcher_BB27_Instructions.pdf

Finally, we can shoot your Belouga out of the sky

Conclusion: No you cant
