Crime / Re: Gun Battle Between Police & Armed-Robbers In Lagos, 2 Killed by Pattey(m): 10:15am On Nov 21, 2013 |
Considering how much I detest the Nigerian Police Force, I really wish I didn't have to write this kind of 'positive' report about them, but, I just couldn't be biased. Just last week, a car was snatched at Gunpoint at my bus-stop; few meters from last night's encounter. No one ever expected police to interfere and it was once the norm for 'men' to arm themselves. Come during riot then you'll kno who and who has got 'metal' It was quite a distance from my place to the scene and while people were locking emselves inside, the journalist in me wanted to get a scoop. And I had to find my may through the dark to get a better view, well I missed capturing the dead bodies . NO ONE BACK ON MY SIDE believed the police were involved until I gave a first-hand account. We had initially thought the robbers were having all the fun as usual, doing the shooting to scare people away. There have been series of robberies in our area BUT police never gave response on time, at times, NOT AT ALL. This time, the robbers were being chased, from where? I couldn't get that, but we hope the Police are more reliable henceforth. Usually, Police shooting in our area meant they were chasing Okada people to 'impound' their bikes. |

Crime / Gun Battle Between Police & Armed-Robbers In Lagos, 2 Killed by Pattey(m): 9:21pm On Nov 20, 2013 |
Armed Robbers held residents of Akanro Street in Ilasamaja area of Lagos hostage for over an hour with persistent gunshots. Motorists stopped mid-way (at Agiri Bus-stop), turning back to avoid running into the dare-devil robbers who were a few meters away. This correspondent monitored events from the said bus stop to get an appraisal of the event. Initial accounts suggested the armed robbers were attempting to rob. However, on visiting the scene, eye witnesses at the spot of the 'final showdown' explained that the robbers were fleeing from the police and were double crossed at Power-line junction (on Akanro road) by another detachment of SARS operatives. The resulting gunshots lasted several minutes within the over 1-hour operation, making residents several streets away scamper to safety. Two of the alleged robbers were killed on the spot and one was taken away with serious gun-shot wounds. As people gathered at the scene of the bloody encounter, some people were seen picking shelled 'Bullet Casings'. This depicted a high level of ignorance by many people as such could put them in trouble. If peradventure, one of those picking the bullet casings were to be stopped in a police 'stop and search' operation, how would he/she justify the possesion of such items? Despite efforts to stop people, as one person drops a shell, another simply picked it up, and off into his pocket it went. The situation was simply hopeless. It will perhaps be my first time of commending the Nigerian Police Force, BUT this evening after several robberies in my area, eye-witness accounts describe the SARS operatives as courageous Gallant men. God bless them (the courageous ones) and by his (God's grace), the corruption infested ones will either turn a new leaf or be exposed to ridicule. It is christmas season again, and the boys are desperate as usual. It is noteworthy that they are not the only ones frustrated with the Nigerian state (and condition). While some of us continue to weather the storm, in most cases, they choose to further oppress less privileged citizens like themselves; may God help us all. NB: The bodies were taken away by the police but atttached pictures show shelled bullet casings and blood spatters from those killed. It is quite thick suggesting blown out skulls. 1 Like

MODs, this story : www.nairaland.com/1517655/infrastructure-neglects-barracks : deserves FRONT PAGE more than several topics presently on the front page. Why wait till Sahara or Channels takes interest and breaks the story before NairaLand moderators choose to endorse copy and paste from external sources INSTEAD of giving it due attention now that they can! www.nairaland.com/1517655/infrastructure-neglects-barracks |

sCun: Can you tell me what Ghana's level is? For your information, the so called ''loose statement'' made by that minister will get her a sack under Jonathan. go and get the full details You are such a Hypocritical clown. . . How dare you compare Ghana where a Minister is sacked for merely speaking of intentions to steal; Not even executed Oo. . . TO NIGERIa where the President categoriclly states in a Presidential Media chat that corruption is 'Exaggerated'. One whose ministers are not accused of plotting to steal but actually stealing. Yet, they only get sacked when their 'political sponsors' who nominated them to cabinet have misunderstandings with the President, Young man or Old man, you are such a joke 2 Likes |

akraym: Jesus! The topic is more than a year old. What is it doing on fp now. The mangement of DSTV should be in a better position to address this; that's if they will anyway. On your comment, the clueless moderators on Nairaland apparently lack needed brain power to identify worthy topics. There is a thread with pictures; showing serious decay @ a Police barracks, so much that sticks are used to support parts of buildings from crashing down. They'll rather wait for Channels and Sahara to make the story go viral instead of them to do the needful here on NL 6 Likes |

Uhhhmmm. . . I'll say it as my big mouth sees it. Personally, it'd be nice if the whole thing drops down, cos that will be a few hundreds of corrupt police folks out of the equation. = less chance moi or even you reading this gets killed by accidental discharge from corruption infested unethical folks, or suffer illegal detention, get framed up or robbed by either 'police men' or armed robbers they rented guns to. . . Well, itl be 9ce if their family members aren't around when that divine justice is done. . . BUT On a more serious note, why can't these types of sensible threads make FrontPage?
