Politics › Nigerian Senators Earn More Than Barack Obama by PaulJohn1(op): 12:58am On Jul 27, 2012
A Nigerian senator earns more in Salary than Barack Obama of the US and David Cameron of the UK. I'll leave you to tell how much Nigerian president goes home with at the end of each month. An Indian lawmaker must work for at least 49 years to earn the annual salary of a Nigerian senator.

In the United States, while the minimum wage is $1,257 (N191, 667), a US lawmaker earns $15,080 (N2.3m) per month. In the United Kingdom, a lawmaker earns $8,686(N1.3m) monthly while the gross national minimum wage is $1,883 (N283, 333) per month. Also, Nigerian lawmakers earn higher than their counterparts in Sweden. With a monthly pay of $7,707 (N1.2m), a lawmaker in Sweden will need to work for over 12 years to equal what a Nigerian senator earn per annum.

The president of the United States takes home an anual salary of $400,000 (N64.156,0m), including a $50,000 expense allowance making the president the highest paid public servant in the US. The $400,000 includes everything and $350,000 out of it is taxable.

Motor Vehicle Allowance: 400% of BS = N9,936,982.00

Total per month = N29, 479, 749.00

A senator's anual salary = over N182 million
multiply by 109 senators (don't forget the House of rep, ministers, ambassadors, ...)

In addition to the regular and legitimate salaries and allowances of over N17 million ($113,333) and N14.99 million ($99,933) which senators and reps were collecting yearly and the irregular allowance of estacodes, duty tours etc, they were also collecting over N192m ($1.28m) and N140m ($0.93m) respectively in illicit quarterly allocation which is not provided for by RMAFC.

Effectively, a Nigerian senator was taking home at least $1.40m ($1.28m quarterly allocations + $0.113m regular salaries and allowances) as against the $0.174m an American senator takes home hence a Nigeria senator earns at least 8 times as much as an American senator and more than 3 times the American president.

Whereas a Senator in the U.S earns N21, 146,000, the same as a member of the House of Representatives; a UK Member of Parliament earn £64,766 (N14, 896,180)

In other words, a Federal Legislator in Nigeria is paid more than double what a Member of British Parliament earns per annum.

Senate President David Mark alone takes N250 million quarterly or N83.33 million per month. Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu gets N150 million per quarter or N50 million a month.

Mark and Ekweremadu earns in 4 months, six times what the UK Prime Minister earns in a year. David Cameron goes home with £190,000 per anum (N43, 700,000)

In a newspaper news article entitled ‘An Assembly for looting’ written by Musikilu Mojeed with Elor Nkereuwem, the authors rightly claimed that each of the 360 members of the House of Representatives were getting N35 million in cash money in quarterly allocation while each of the 109 Senators pockets N48 million each. These allocations have however been slashed by 20% to N27 million ($180,000) and N38 million ($253,333) respectively due to the 20% reduction requested by the late president.

Malawian: i have read on several sites now about how the present U.S president is not the son of an african immigrant from kenya but rather that of an african american rights activist named Frank mashal davies. Dont know how true this is, but if it were true, can we guess the origins of the said frank mashal davies? It has been documented that igbo slaves were the most rebelious of the lot and were always leadind any revolt against oppression. Could this right activist have been of igbo descent? What does that make of barak obama. Could an igbo man already be at the whitehouse without us knowing? Our GOD works in a mysterious way really.

bonna4u: Don't mind the ignorant fellow. They cancelled 4 zeros from the useless cedis. Ghanians still call 1 cedis 10000. When I visited that pithole in fabuary, the guy that changed my naira to cedis told me that N102=10000 (then 1cedi=N102). I was confused until he showed me that 10000 is 1cedi note to my amazement.
Tolexander: man u make sense jare. Continue publicising knowledge to nullify the handiwork of those publicizing ignorance
People here need enlightenment. You guys should do the simple maths, if one day Nigeria also re-decimalize s her currency, by cancelling two zeros(0). Then N83= N0.083, which is the same as 0.83kobo.
Then present 1GHc=0.83kobo, not up to a Naira.

dasparrow: @Post

That's good that the yoruba monarchs are reuniting. I wish the artificial boundaries once drawn in Africa by colonialists could be redrawn and this time by Africans. Let all those with same or similar cultural and linguistic ties share a country. If this was the case to begin with, we won't see all the ethnic strife we see on our continent today.
Very correct.

Bimfo: Thank God he dint make the trip to Nigeria... It would have been a disaster Btw Nigeria and Ghana... The two countries are not in good terms at all... But y should they be?? When 1 Ghana cedi, is equal to ₦83.
WHAT A FAILED STATE WE CALL NIGERIA... All those our Leaders should be tied to the Stake and Burnt to Nothin...
What Ghana did is called re-decimalization of their currency by cancelling 2-3 zeros(0) from it. That doesn't change the value of the currency. Last time I went to Ghana, I understood it better. The 1 Ghana cedi you're comparing with N83 has totally different value. What you can buy with that 1 Ghana cedi is not close to what you can buy withN83. If Nigeria also re-decimalize her currency, does that changes the value? It's not
Politics › Re: Benin Republic Yoruba Monarchs Re-unite With Nigerian Kin by PaulJohn1: 7:34am On Jul 25, 2012
OSOGBO—The need for a united Yoruba nation resonated when two of the three children of Okanbi, son of legendary Oduduwa, founder of Yoruba ethnic group, but rulers of different cities in Republic of Benin, paid a solidarity visit to their kith and kin in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, Monday.

The host, Orangun of Ila and paramount ruler of Igbominaland, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, set the tone in his welcome address as he emphasised on the need for closer ties among the people of the Yoruba nation.

Oba Oyedotun, who gave kudos to the Onisabe of Sabeland, Benin Republic, for initiating the visit, stressed the need for greater and tighter relationship, first among the monarch sons of Okanbi and other Yoruba in general.

The Orangun stated that a united Yoruba nation would be a catalyst for the growth and development of the race. Oba Oyedotun used the occasion to emphasis the sacredness of the position of Yoruba Obas and the strategic position they occupy in the governance and administration of their people and called on governments at all levels to accord them respect and proper recognition in all ramifications.

In his goodwill message, Asiwaju of Ila- Orangun and former governor of the state, Chief Bisi Akande, traced the history of Yoruba and established the existence of the seven sons of Okanbi whose father, Oduduwa, founded the Yoruba nation.

Akande, who quoted from books published by Professor Banji Akintoye and Rev. Samuel Johnson, emphasised that there was no doubt about the blood affinity of Olowu, Alaketu, Oba of Benin, Orangun, Onisabe, Olupopo and Oranmiyan of Oyo, saying it was heart-warming that they were re-uniting after they were artificially separated, first by a series of destabilisation and tribulations and later by colonialists.

Alaketu of Ketu and Olupopo of Popo expressed joy at the possibility of the reunion meeting, saying it was a dream come true to interact fully with their kith and kin who had been inaccessible due to the artificial boundary created by those who do not know their historical affinity.

The duo expressed happiness at the benefit of detailed history which established what they used to know on the periphery before now, stressing that it was the thick blood that set them to find a way of making the visit which has come to pay off and which will commence a new thing in the future of Yoruba nation.

The man in question is not speaking for the igbo people in Lagos, how many igbo people belong to his so-called organization in Lagos and some people should stop generalizing wen some one from a section of the country says anything,Don't use it to generalize and insult other people from that tribe because they said something.

I have met a lot of Yoruba people that are backstabbers and snitch, some that are dirty, some that are cowards....Dat does not mean that is how the rest Yoruba people are,..I have met Ibo men that can kill for money, sell their daughter during marraige and also enjoy kidnap business but not all the ibos do that,.......I have met warri and Binnin people who have no other jobs but 419 and are very fetish in nature yet that are hundreds of people from that area that are Godly and very nice.......
