starlingslimnet: 666, What Does it Mean?

"Here is wisdom, Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." -Revelation 13:18
The Bible teaches that the antichrist will gain total economic and religious control of the entire world wrong . All people will worship him and receive a mark on their hands or upon their foreheads in order to buy or sell. who is Antichrist? Those who refuse to take the mark will be hunted down and eliminated. i don't know abt this
The number 666 is seen as an evil number. This is no doubt because of its appearance in occult films and upon the bodies of certain rock musicians. The number almost puts terror in the hearts and minds of some believers.
In this study we are going to discuss the facts surrounding the "the mark of the beast" but avoiding speculation. It is important to free ourselves from the myths that have grown up around this issue and to concentrate on what the Bible actually says. What we will present is no new revelation, we will simply accept only what the Bible actually says. Great care and attention must be taken when trying to understand or interpret prophecy (including this one). The key to all Biblical prophecy is: Interpret prophecy as literal unless it is obviously symbolic, but understand that there must be a literal meaning behind the symbolism. If we do not do this we will fall into the same trap as the cults and some Christian groups. For instance, the Seventh-day Adventists believe that the mark of the beast is actually worshipping God on Sunday. I don’t think that those who worship on Sunday have any more boils as those who worship on Saturday (see Revelation 16:2). The interpretation is obviously foolish, but do you realise that some have been just as unbiblical in the past? We may even at this time hold views that, though they may sound plausible, do not hold any weight in the light of Scripture. Unless we approach this subject in the wisdom of God’s Holy Spirit we will end up with mere idle speculation.

|

femi4: You are getting it wrong, family altar is just a cliche. E.g Do you have a family altar? simply means "Do you pray with your family regularly?"
Praying on the church altar or podium is not wrong, its your faith that matters Then family prayer should be used rather, The term family alter is rather confusing for most nigerian christians. To you, you understand it, perhaps you have a better orientation. How about billions of illiterate christians who go to church? don't you think they will misinterprete it as some kind of a place for diabolical rituals where people go to pray that God should kill their enemies (humans )? By going there to scream, die by fire? |

lagmostkuit: I got thinking about this!
Why do we go to church? What benefit is there in attending church regularly… for me, for you, for others?
Here's my list and we should ponder on it if we've not been going to church.
1. The Bible indicates it’s what we should do. (Hebrews 10:25)
2. You will have the opportunity to worship God.
3. You will likely have some of life big questions answered.
4. Being there will encourage your pastors and leaders.
5. You’ll be encouraged in your walk with God.
6. If you’re single, you may meet someone.
7. If you have kids, it will teach them to value God and His Church.
8. It honours God.
9. Because gathering is part of what makes u a christian.
10. It'll help u acknowledge and confess your sins.
You can add yours
Written by muah! Lalasticlala 1. The Bible indicates it’s what we should do. (Hebrews 10:25) But HEB 10:25 was a suggestion and not a command. so, whether you go or not it is all subjected to your decision, It has nothing to do with whether you are a christian or not. Jesus says he has destroyed building in 3days 2. You will have the opportunity to worship God. John 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain(church ), nor yet at Jerusalem (church ), worship the Father. so, we don't go to any place to worship anymore, what you do in church is not worship, it is praise. worship is to believe in Jesus, that's all 3. You will likely have some of life big questions answered. Churches are not answering questions satisfactorily 4. Being there will encourage your pastors and leaders..for what? 5. You’ll be encouraged in your walk with God. if you say so, this is a good reason to go 6. If you’re single, you may meet someone. another good reason 7. If you have kids, it will teach them to value God and His Church. children are thought doctrines that if full of mixtures of truth and lies, that's why they grow up to become corrupt individuals and corrupt nation leaders 8. It honours God. because Jesus and salvation is preached. another good reason 9. Because gathering is part of what makes u a christian. not at all. rather, gathering is what makes people see you as christians. what makes you a Christian is your believe in Jesus only, gathering is not included 10. It'll help u acknowledge and confess your sins. only when you are willing to do so |

my Bible tells me our body is God's temple. If so be it, why are Christians still looking for alter or a particular place for prayer in their room? why will dey have a place called ulter in churches where christians think if they don't bow down there to pray God will not answer them? Are these not the same thing people who visit babalawo for rituals do? well, i understand everybody have their way they want to practice religion based on how they understand. But some of us have chosen to be totally free from rituals and ordinamces, because we know we have the power in us already. we don't need rituals |

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Christians Still Believe In Reincarnation?? by paxonel(m): 4:17pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
Sweetrolly: THIS ISSUE OF REINCARNATION HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME FOR A WHILE NOW BECAUSE A LOT OF CHRISTIANS BELIEVE IN REINCARNATION BUT FROM WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS THAT AFTER DEATH COMES JUDGEMENT AND THAT MEANS THAT WHEN SOMEONE DIES JUDGEMENT FOLLOWS AND IT MEANS THAT YOU WILL BE JUDGED ACCORDING TO YOUR DEEDS ON EARTH AND IT ALSO MEANS THAT AFTER YOU ARE BEING JUDGED TWO THINGS ARE INVOLVED WHICH ARE:
1 IF YOU ARE FOUND GUILTY ACCORDING TO YOUR DEEDS WHILE ON EARTH YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO A PLACE OF SUFFERING WHICH IS HE'LL FIRE
2 IF YOU ARE FOUND INNOCENT BASED ON YOUR GOOD DEEDS WHILE ON EARTH YOU WILL BE REWARDED WITH HEAVENLY CROWN AND A LIFE OF ENJOYMENT IN HEAVEN
SO I NOW WANT TO ASK SINCE AFTER DEATH COMES JUDGMENT WHY WOULD SOMEONE WHO MUST HAVE BEEN JUDGED STILL COME BACK TO THE WORLD IN FORM OF REINCARNATION? WHY DO MANY CHRISTIANS BELIEVE IN THIS?
GUYS WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? op, reincarnation is real. it is what the bible described as resurrection of the dead. read 1cor 15:35 to the end of the chapter. |

CaptainJune: Paxonel, really, you're the one confused here. You highlighted a parable with its interpretation, but you misinterpret other passages of the Bible expecting them to tow in line with the interpretation of the parable of the sower.
Heaven, Hell, and the Book of Life are not parables. They're facts, real facts. They are literal concepts, not symbolic concepts as some folks erroneously suppose to the detriment of their souls.
Granted, there are things in the Bible that may require some explanation for better understanding, but those you mentioned are hardly deserving of "interpretation" if you can read and write. i know exactly what need not to be interpreted and what need to be interpreted in the Bible |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Way Bible Was Written Is Confusing All Pastors by paxonel(op): 9:05am On Aug 05, 2015 |
Scholar8200: A parable is different from a prophecy. The Book of life was also referred to in Exodus 32:33! The coming of Jesus Whose parable you quoted was also prophesied, do you mean those prophecies were parables with another meaning?! there are prophecies that were direct and do not need interpretation. But there are other prophesies like. Revelation 4:7 And the first beast was like a lion lion = what? and the second beast like a calf, calf = what? and the third beast had a face as a man man = what? , and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle flying eagle = What? infact BEAST = what? You see, when people read these things they become scared. meanwhile, there is nothing there if you get their interpretation |
Christianity Etc › The Way Bible Was Written Is Confusing All Pastors by paxonel(op): 8:20am On Aug 05, 2015 |
This is a very dangerous reality. Pastors are confused, all of them. No church is exempted in this wave of confusion. Now, i am very much interested in the moral values and the knowledge building block (the general studies curriculum) of the nation, not just taking what pastor 1 says and pastor 2 says another thing totally different and you will still take it . The family was supposed to be the unit for inculcating morality, But since the family has been crumbled by faulty African tradition and un educated parents religion now take over to teach the children, But this time, with more confusion. Now just follow me and look at this Scripture. After Jesus gave a parable, he interpreted the parable like this for proper understanding Matthew 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed =the Son of man; 13:38 The field =world ; the good seed=the children of the kingdom; but the tares = the children of the wicked one; 13:39 The enemy that sowed them=the devil ; the harvest =the end of the world; and the reapers=the angels Now, this is the only Scripture of the Bible that parables and fugurative languages were interpreted extensively for understanding the actual message the writer want to pass accross, and if we use this same format Jesus used , the whole Scripture can be understood. Now, the question is, how are we sure that the whole Bible do not need interpretation like this for us to understand it so that we will not be confused? ok, look at this Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Book of life = what? Lake of fire = what? Surely, if this is subjected to interpretation Book of life is not book, it is something else. Lake of fire is not fire that is burning people, it is something else. Another one is Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so COME IN LIKE MANNER as ye have seen him go into heaven come in like manner = what? surely, come in like manner is not rapture if you interprete it. This is now they have used uninterpreted scriptures to make the vast Nigerian christians believe that rapture is coming, this world will end, hell fire is coming to burn people. Therefore making people not to work hard, fight for their right and enjoy their lives here on earth. illiterate people are the most victims of these school of thought |

brocab: I see, after reading about Pastor Chris okafor he is a prosperity preacher, another one biting the dust, wrong teachings always leads to destruction, by his own sermons he is after the cash more then he preachers the truth on the word of God. Already the fruit of the spirit isn't showing-and destruction will always come forward, with those who fail the test.
And if these allegations against him are true, then the Church needs to stand fern, telling him to step down from his authority, if he is found guilty he needs to repent before the Lord-and if the Church is willing after he repents-let him preach. If God can forgive so the Church must forgive-this man needs to re-study the scriptures before he becomes a preacher again.
His wife is accusing him for bashing her, while other women involved in the Church have accused him for sleeping around with them. If these allegations are true, by their fruits you will know them-others words this man does not follow God-What's wrong with the Church, why are they allowing this man to keep on preaching, this isn't showing a good example, is this the way the Church expects to act against each other? What the blind do, the blind don't see. Church get him out-someone stand up to Him, question his so called authority. Until Pastor Chris is found innocent place the second pastor in charge of the Church as long as he isn't corrupted too. If Pastor Chris is found guilty he needs to repent to God, he needs to repent to the Church, and all those he has feared and hurt. This man needs to step down. step down? it's like you don't know these Africans. a political administrator has never stepped down because he was found corrupt in the history of African politics, is it a religious leader who will tell you i build the church by my own effort that will step down? impossible. the worst is, over 80% of the church members comprising of brainwashed minds, will still uphold the pastor as their spiritual head inspite the level of misconduct found by the pastor. we have heard of one rev king who was indicated for murdering his church member, yet some members of that church goes to prison to feed him, saying he was suffering persecution as Paul and Salas suffered, that he was not guilty of the murder |

brocab: It don't matter what part of the world you go, we will always find prosperity preachers every where, all preaching the same sermon {Money} What you had said: this same teaching 'all must go to Church, came directly from the Roman Catholic Church at the Vatican. It was Pope Francis who is pushing for the new world religion, bringing to power, a law that everyone must worship God on a Sunday. Sunday worship, is not biblical. With the info you have shared, shows another Church bites the dust, that's leading many to Hell. 1 Timothy 6: "Its been in the last few years we are hearing more and more about these Churches, and its sad every time when we hear God's chosen have been led away, for Error and greed; preachers are proud, knowing nothing, causing disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife reviling, evil suspicions, men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, using the word of God as the means of financial gain. And the Lord says withdraw yourselves from these men. Matthew Mark and Luke Jesus warns us, many will come in, His name, claiming they are He. prosperity preachers can afford to exist in developed nations such as America and the UK, these countries have stable economy. The urgent need for Africa is not prosperity preachers, Africa need enlightenment urgently. Africans need to be informed about the Bible content, what information the Bible is trying to pass, and no pastor is ready to do that. All they want is money. Right now, i followed a friend to one liberation city church in Lagos, Nigeria. the pastor is just saying because Abraham sacrificed his son(ignoring the Scripture that says the least person in God's kingdom is greater than Abraham ) that church members should go and empty their bank account and come and sacrifice the money on his ulter. i swear to God, this thing is happening right now as i post this ,10:37am, Sunday 26th July 2015. An old traditional family type head, should be asked questions, involving family traditions, but to allow a man to control a household without training, is like placing a child in to be the next government. Home or Church does not make any differences, even the leadership takes orders from either the law or if they are Christian take orders from God. Who is Bishop oyedepo? And what was his experiences in the UK. You seem to know a lot about what is happening in Africa-is it because you live amongst the African community. Is this your Church you belong too, the Living Faith Church the winners chapel in Africa? Oyedepo is the founder of the living faith church in Nigeria, Africa. i live in Nigeria though I visit the UK often. i see the differences in values between UK churches and African churches. i think the problem of Africa comes from the african traditions. the Bible preaches ethics and love.. African traditions uphold injustice, and infringe on the rights of the minors. Africans unconciously take these values into their churches. the worst is, they use rapture to threaten church members in Africa that, if they are not loyal to pastors they will miss rapture and go to hell fire, saying that if Jesus come and meet you and catch you red handed when you are suppose to be in church . So, every Christian in Africa are all church freak. The bible proves the rapture will come at the end of the age "not before" every eye will see Jesus coming, Not just a few-who are raptured. Romans 8:18-38 "For the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. {Meaning everyone suffers before they can enter into glory at the end of the age}V's 36 As it is written-For your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Why do you even listen to these false prophets-when you have the bible in front of you, test the spirits-test the word, test the truth. Jesus said: He will come at the end of the age-NOT BEFORE. I have heard this lie myself-and some believers claim and believe the rapture will come before the end of the age, they believe they won't suffer any pain before Christ is coming-this is not true. I was taught this very same lie in Church, until one day I asked the lord for the truth' and sure enough the lord has been pouring out the truth amongst those who want the truth. The lord tells us "CLEARLY" in scripture when the final call up will happen at the end of the age, not before.
This is like the tithing scam they use within the church. ripping God's people off, twisting the truth around for financial gain. Yes, it is true that tithe is scam. i have analysed it, tithe is truly brain washing. But you don't know how it is scam. You heard it from someone that tithe is scam, just like they made you to believe rapture is coming. You don't analyse the bible to confirm truths. While others will not know what is going on. Now, you are saying every eyes will see Christ coming down? |

brocab: And I am enjoying my stay here on earth, being led by the Holy Spirit, everyday seeking new and better ways how to live a smoother life. Writing and studying the word of God, searching and learning new ways, finding written truths about our Lord as He lives. Loving God-and loving my neighbour as myself. {Believing what was, believing what is, and believing what's to come} Jesus Christ is Lord the King of kings and the Lord of lords. How about you-who do you believe in-Has Christ came-"Or is Christ coming You are good, you don't have any problem with God. You are perfect the way you are like this, as far as God is concern. Simply because you believe in Jesus. The same thing with me. i believe that, to say Christ is coming is understatement. Christ is already here with us |

brocab: Is Juju a Gypsie word for luck I suppose when nothing else seems to work-people in genial find artefacts to cling onto. We call it idol worship-this started back in the days when the Church started to idolise status-a pagan belief that change the world-taken people away from the image of God. What has the Rapture got to do with Juju This just shows people are walking with demons rather then walking with God. Demons and Juju do not exist in this physical world , They are all fictions. Humans are the demons or angels by their actions,as the case may be. The same thing with rapture. people can never fly to the clouds or some mysterious disappearance in this physical world. If we die, anything can happen in the spirit, But certainly, not this physical world that we are living. |

brocab: As quote> They will not take religion again seriously again so that they will begin to take education and national development seriously for their benefit. Your quote> sounds-you have decided to take religion away from the Nairalands and others-because you feel they aren't doing enough for themselves, you also feel 'they should be out there retrieving more worldly education, just to get a job-in this day and age, in my country people can't get the work they need, its even harder when one can't afford to study to retrieve any qualifications. Age makes a difference. So when you see people turning towards God, its not because they are lazy-its because the lord says seek and you will find. Remember it was our ancestors that prayed to the lord to bring us "all" into this world, It don't mean one hasn't any skills. it just means no-one is hiring the people. And if you want people to listen to you then I advise you not to twist the word of God around saying the end has already come. So if your heart is about helping the people, then at least speak to them about the truth. Jesus said>Matthew 6:33 "First seek the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Seeking the lord first is a great start-Its what every Christian should do. Its His wisdom with His knowledge, that supplies our needs on daily bases. And if the Narialands are waiting on the Lord? "then" Let them wait. Sometimes things take time. I am sure if the lord calls for certain people to work He will supply, {ask and it shall be given} but for the others, He had called them to be prey warriors, so our nations will survive, when hell on earth breaks out at the end of the age..
All this shouldn't bother you anyway? Your best shot is do what you do best. Live. how you live. And let God worry about the nations and Nairaland. As Quote> You are fighting God, and you can never win. Well I have news for you God and His word has already won. As quote> unfortunately there are other guys, who are educated people too, they are not on Nairaland. Again it seems you have a poor ling Idea, that those you have chosen to write on this forum, {such as you} are either helpless and are uneducated, does this mean you have judged me, even though I am not from your country Nairaland. As Quote> You say if I like I can call you names-but it seems the name calling has come from you, not only mocking the Christians, but Nairaland people as well. its important to note 'either Black or White, we are all part of God's image. please you have already seeked God's kingdom by being a Christian and not a Muslim. You don't need church or ordinances or anything else But to avoid sin by loving your neighbour as yourself and enjoy your life here on earth |
