Government of the Yoruba by the Yoruba and for the Yoruba.

A Yoruba is the Senate Leader.

Another Yoruba is the Deputy Whip. That’s something that was supposedly zoned to the North Central.

If you ask them now, they will say the North got two positions. No. Yoruba got two positions.

And did they tell you the cocoa rubber and oil palm plantations established by Awolowo in the bendel province is not producing again?

You have not been to other regions to know the level of development there.

As much as igbos tried during they last election to whip up religious sentiments in the north they were largely unsucessful
Why?
The northern region treated it's minorities best among all the regions......that's why they are so cohesive.....the minorities had a sense of belonging and their areas were also developed . Infact the engine room of the northern economy is in the minorities areas of Benue plateau Kaduna, only Kano is a Fulani town

We know how igbos like revisionism to hide their foolishness but we won't allow you miscreants yo mislead the public. Thank God everything is public record nobody go tell us cock and bull story.
I hate it when people engage in long talks without providing facts to backup their claims.

I opened this thread to tell propagandists like you who try to revise history and tell Southsouth people that Igbos are their greatest enemies, that Michael Okpara, an Igbo man built legacy projects in this region when they were part of the old Eastern Region which shows the minorities were adequately accommodated unlike the maltreatment that Awolowo meted against the people of Midwest.

But guess what, I didn’t just make those claims, I provided proofs and links to various publications to verify the veracity of the facts I laid.

That’s what I expected you lots to do.

Name the projects Awolowo constructed in the Midwestern Region and provide links to verify such claims.

Like I said earlier ehn! if not that I have seen some really good ones who don't apply this tribalism in any way, I have seen a Yoruba guy fight for me to protect me from a fellow Igbo guy's constant oppression in secondary school, till date I and this Yoruba guy are still friends, the guy even supported Peter Obi during the election and was even given solid reasons why Peter Obi should be president and warning us not to vote Tinubu or Atiku, though he is in the US now so he couldn't vote, funny thing is I am not as close to this one like the other one neither did he live anywhere close by, we only met in secondary school and I have seen others too that are clearly like that as friends, that's what still gives me hope that there are still good ones among them..

As for Mbaka I've decided not to speak on his matter, I feel anything he does is between him and his God...

My major prayer now concerning all these election and tribal politics and so on is for the Igbos to be proven right and the good that will come out of it will benefit everyone positively whether as a single nation or different countries.....
Your last paragraph summarizes everything.

I just want the elements of the universe to help make it possible for Igbos to be proven right so that Nigerians will be convinced that all we’ve ever wanted is objective and altruistic good of the Nigerian state.

Do you know that, the Luxurious Hotel Presidential Port Harcourt, is jointly owned by the Govt of Rivers and Bayelsa State.

It was built in 1963 by Michael Okpara, former premier of the Old Eastern region.

Hotel Presidential is managed by Courdeau Nigeria Limited, located in the heart of the Garden City - Port Harcourt, the Capital of Rivers State, Nigeria.

Less than an hour drive from the International and Domestic Airport. Being centrally situated within the business districts and the main shopping areas of the city,

The new eight storey building on the left hand side, was built by the Architect of modern Rivers State, Commander Alfred Diete Spiff.

He did it to shame the Government, and people of East Central State which/who raised hell, over the place of the 7 floor Hotel Presidential in the sharing of Assets belonging to Eastern Nigeria under what was called ESIALA -- Eastern States Internal Assets And Liabilities Commission

After he built it, He (Spiff) told them that they could bring in forklifts and take the old building to Enugu as part of the common assets.

That was why it was allowed to rot for a while before it was refurbished.
Conclusion: Michael Okpara built Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.

And who says there are no Awolowo legacy projects in the old western region that included the Midwest?
All the industries from Benin to warri to agbor to ughelli were all built by Awolowo same for many major roads which are still in use today .

You claim to have treated them well but refused to create their own region for them because you want to exploit their resources.
Why not name the industries so that we can verify?

You can’t just come here and make spurious and vague and opaque claims without specifics.

Give us names of the industry and roads.

My happiness is that the eyes of every other tribe is beginning to see how deceitful some of them have been, I don't want to use the word all because I have seen some really good ones among them, but this past election made me have a rethink about majority of them, if not for the good ones I have seen, I may have written off all of them to be in that category.

Funny enough the ones you sometimes expect to reason without tribalism will be the ones doing it, Imagine a childhood friend of mine during this last election telling me to my face that an Igbo man can never rule Nigeria and asking me how would my tribe want to rule Nigeria?

This is someone I have known for more than 30 years, we grew up together, our fathers both worked in the same federal parastatal as senior civil servants, we lived in the same federal residential location, we went to the same school at various stages up to university, he lived with us like a brother sometimes he doesn't go to his house for days while staying with us even though his house was just a few meters away, even his wife that he married I linked the both of them.

My mum and his mum are like sisters, we are still very close family friends with their family, but a whole lot of questions started popping about my perception of the southwest, if you know where I grew up(not trying to brag), it was devoid of tribalism, I had friends from almost every tribe of Nigeria because of the location of the area, we lived around government officials both from the military and civilian setup, Marwa was living 2 streets away from my street, Diya was living about 3 streets away from my street, we had friends from virtually every government institution, I mean people that their parents were sometimes always on TV and there was nothing like tribalism in the setup .

I saw this boy grow up and I kept asking how did he pick up this type of mindset to believe that his tribe is superior to the Igbo tribe in Nigeria or that he is more eligible than me to be president of Nigeria because of his tribe...

The funny part is he did not see anything wrong in what he said till date and we are still friends, he still visits me, he is a Tinubu supporter and he clearly told me that he is supporting Tinubu because he is Yoruba and believes that I am supporting Peter Obi because he is Igbo, that I should support my own while he supports his own.

His statement and mindset made me have a rethink of a whole lot of things about the south west, for him to even see me as a tribalist when he should know better...
Wow!

Trust me I could feel the pain and emotions invested in every word written here whilst I read this comment.

Just like you, millions more people were broken too. A lot of people have always been suspicious of the Yoruba people and their unpredictable loyalties but this election made things worse. Right now, if a Yoruba says, “I’m with you”, you would question that statement till the end of time because you’d be doubtful of his loyalty.

And what is worst? They cannot present any logical justification for their actions and stance - it’s purely tribal.

But what do you now say of a man of God like Mbaka who was gloating on the outcome of the election? Is it that he didn’t see the obvious manipulations or that he was just being purely malicious.

See, a lot Nigerians don’t have conscience and can no longer differentiate between good and evil.

80% ?
what is the basis of that ?
you are a liar let us take one lie at a time stop jumping to another lie when we have not finished the first

Bendel state
while it existed witnessed elections in 1979 ,1983 and 1993

These graphics show results for 1979,1983 1993

Those were The only elections

Tell us which of those elections they voted in the same way as the SE the answer is. NEVER

That same fact applies to. Old Cross River(SouthEastern) and Old Rivers states all created in1967 by Gowon.

Throughout their existence till they were split there were 3 elections

NOT FOR ONCE did their voting align with the SE

NOT ONCE

So where do you get 80%

You are a liar

The reality is 0%

Why are you telling us about Anambra?

You are comparing SS with SE

So do not single out Anambra to Tell us Abiola won there
The issue is

Did SS VOTE LIKE SE ?

The answer is NO
Compare the WHOLE SE. which you claimed.
Abiola won SS
Tofa won SE
The first question I have for you is, do you agree that mathematically, 9.5 is 10 by approximation?

Second, the old Bendel was not in existence in 1993. Delta was carved out of it on 27th August, 1991.

Now, Nigeria held elections in 1952, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1979, 1983, 1993, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023.

That’s about 15 elections in total. I said about because I might not have captured all of the pre colonial elections.

Now, after the Civil War ended in 1970, the Southwest Press went on a propaganda overdrive against the Igbos and painted them as the devils on earth. So it was understandable why no Southeasterners voted in opposite direction with the Southeast. Same sentiments still pervaded in 1983. While the Southsouth region voted Abiola in 1993.

But by 1999, the Southsouth Region started understanding that what they had been told about the Igbos are all lies and propaganda which is why their anti Igbo sentiments died and they started aligning with the Igbos till date; an alignment that is causing you and your fathers sleepless nights.

Now, back to our elections, if out of 15 elections, the Southeast and Southsouth have voted 12 times in one direction what is the percentage? And if you were a researcher researching Nigerian elections, what would your conclusion be about the two regions?

OP during the time of the Eastern region there was nothing like Port Harcourt Province. Port Harcourt was under Owerri Province. Okpara just like every average Igbo man felt he was developing Igboland.

Read and digest your info first before spewing trash on nairaland. Minorities were subdued especially after Nigeria gained her independence. Only the north treated her minorities fairly, hence their level of unity till date.

In the South all the minorities opted to leave. SW Cameroon eg Bamenda province, Mamfe province, Kumba province and Victoria province left the Eastern region to join Cameroon, because of oppression by the Igbos.

Midwest region left the Western region to be on their own based on the same feeling of oppression.

The Ijaws tried leaving the Eastern region, but Adaka Boro was arrested and jailed by Ojukwu and our Igbo grandparents.

During the civil war, the military president who was Gowon had to grant the minorities their wishes which weakened the strength of the Igbos.

So stop opening thread of lies. Even till date minorities have it worse in this country.

Building a hotel and an industrial layout does not mean Igbos were good to the minorities. Ask yourself who were the people working in the hotels? Igbos!
Who were the people heading the affairs of the hotels? Igbos!
What factories/companies were allowed to operate in the industrial layout? Igbo owned.

Or you want to tell us that the Yorubas and the Hausas never built any meaningful infrastructure in areas of their minorities? Then you lie....
First of all, you are not Igbo.

Second, instead of wasting your time to write this long epistle, why not simply enunciate the projects that Awolowo sited in the Midwestern Province when they were under Western province let it be that it was only Yorubas that were in charge?

Again, is it not to Okpara’s credit that he saw every territory under the Old Eastern Region as Igboland which made him want to develop everywhere evenly?

Would you compare him to Awolowo who saw minority territories as not Yoruba land and therefore not worthy of being developed?

Ogbeni, Obudu cattle ranch was developed in 1951, Okpara contested and won election in 1952.

How do the two match?
Developed by who?

At least you admit it was built by the Old Eastern Region in a minority group province.

Meanwhile, talking about who developed Obudu Cattle Ranch…

Would you agree therefore, that because Jonathan flagged off the construction of the Second Niger Bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Railway Line, he, and not Buhari, built the two projects?

This article below shows that Michael Okpara started investing in the ranch way before he became Premier of Eastern Region, and continued as Premier and as Minister of Agriculture in the Federal Cabinet.

I don’t sell lies and propaganda like some of you.

Records are emerging on how Obudu Mountain Resort came to Be. Since the Rebuilding of the Ranch By Dr. Donald Duke who was the Executive Governor of Cross River State from 1999 -2007 into a World Class Resort questions have arisen about the Origins of the Ranch.
Dr. Duke Rebuilt the Old Resort and installed a Cable Car a Helicopter Landing Pad,a Waterpark and 20 new Mountain Villas.

Today Obudu Mountain Resort is the Best known Tourism destination in Nigeria.
A report published in Birmingham Daily Post on the 3rd of December 1962 was Recently released by Ed Keazor who has released a Documentary on Dr. M.I Okpara who was the Premier of Eastern Nigeria until the Military Coup of 1966.

According to him: “The ENDC headed by Dr. Okpara and Dr Mbanugo invested £230,000 in the 1950s to build the road to Obudu up the mountain. This was even before he became Premier.”

The Daily Post has the Article titled “Nigerian Forest Becomes a Ranch.” “A tired group of brown-skinned herdsmen sat patiently at the foot of a towering mountain with kettles of water at their feet.
They had a rendervous with an English cattle buyer. They washed their feet carefully before kneeling to pray to Allah.

Villagers of Abamlika, close to the Cameroons frontier in Eastern Nigeria, are used to the sight of these Northern Nigerian tribesmen and their long-horned cattle, Reuter writes.
Twice a year, in November and March, the Fulani tribesmen trek down the mountain of the north and travel on foot for hundreds of miles through tropical heat with their humpbacked Zebu cattle. It is well worth the effort.

The Eastern Region Development Corporation pays well for delivery of the cattle to its mile-high ranch on the Obudu plateau.
The ranch is a bold enterprise sponsored by Dr. Michael Okapara, Prime Minister of the Eastern Region of Nigeria. He hopes that it will serve the two fold purpose of increasing Nigeria’s meat supplies and of providing an international tourist attraction, complete with chalets, golf course and swimming pool.”

According to well known Nigerian researcher and Archivist Dr. Raphael James the history of Obudu started with the British.
He states thus: in his book, “Blue Book for Southern Nigeria published in 1909 J.J. Thoburn, the Acting Governor of Southern Nigeria wrote that the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Province in his report states, “During the early months of the year under review the pacification and development of the country lying between the Cross River and Northern Nigeria boundary was continued by the military force under the command of Colonel Trenehard, D.S.O., resulting in the wide extension of Government jurisdiction and control in the districts of Abakaliki, Ogoja, and Ikom, and necessitating the formation of a new district with headquarters at Obudu about 80 miles north-east of Ikom and 30 miles east of Ogoja, practically leaving only the Munshi country to be brought under civilized government.
In this direction everything that could be done by the exercise of patience and friendly overtures has been done by the officer in charge at Obudu, first by Captain Fox, and since by his successor Mr. Weld, but without effect.”

Obodu is not just man made, though it became man-developed by Chief Michael Okpara when he was the Premier of Eastern Nigeria, as stated in his biography ‘Dr. M. I. Okpara A Biography by Chris Offodile in page 43 2his government also build Obudu Cattle Ranch and hotel complex and in fact launched eastern Nigeria to what would have become thriving tourist industry had the war not intervened.

“So the first Nigerian to develop the Obudu cattle Ranch is Dr. Michael Okpara. ” Obudu was developed by Dr. Okpara in two phases: 1. A ranch which was invested in by the ENDC in the 1950s and 2. The Tourist Resort which was completed by 1962.

The ENDC invested heavily in the ranch in the late 1950s when Okpara was Minister for Agriculture and the Resort which he continued when he became Premier in 1959.
Let’s not forget the NCNC had been in power in Eastern Nigeria since 1951″says Keazor. Further Research by Biographer for Dr. M.I Okpara Mr. Edwards Keazor revealed more information from Different Publications especially the Nigerian Magazine No. 60 of 1959. The transcript from the Magazine had this to say Nigerian Magazine No 60 1959
