Ekiti is also a state not living up to expectation and I am not surprised by the figure coz it has always been the least revenue generating state in the SW. Now it has now reduced more to being one of the lowest in the South only above Bayelsa from that chart.

However, I am not here to argue about states itself but just pointing out the thinking of the dotian guy that said Abia IGR is that low because the government don’t proposely tax the residents.

So I told him PAYE is the biggest source of taxes for all those states as you can see that it is over 80% of the taxes in most of those states. This PAYE is deducted from source by the employers and they pay you the net salary at the end of the month after taxes removed. So the argument that government is not purposely taxing his people do not arise here.

Do you get the drift of my argument?
I do get your argument. But he’s right to a great extent too.

Check high IGR grossing states like Lagos and you will see that while PAYE does constitute greater percentage of their entire IGR, other Taxes take large chunk too.

You know why? Because the tax attitude in Lagos is higher than the tax attitude elsewhere.

Let’s take Abia for instance. The market in Aba is big enough to give the state a high IGR if it block leakages and change its attitude to tax.

If we were to compare two entrepreneurs doing business in Lagos and Abia, you would realize that the person in Lagos pays way higher than the person in Abia.

That’s what Dotian was trying to draw your attention to.

The problem here is that you are an illiterate who doesn’t even understand the chart the guy uploaded.

If you check that chart, you will see that PAYE constitute over 75-80% of taxes generated by each state and that tax is deducted directly from source. So your argument of Abia government not wanting to tax people does not apply here because employers automatically deduct that amount from source.

Go online and read more of PAYE and what it means and how it is generated.
But have you looked at that chart to see that Ekiti, and not Abia, is the least IGR grossing state in the entire south?

The 2023 election is about 16 months away. Ambode as a private citizen (in constrast to Ambode as a sitting Governor) joining the party just to clinch the party's ticket will cause dissaffection within the PDP that will further distabilize the party.

In Lagos, the PDP will find it difficult to win and it will be more difficult if Tinubu or any other Yoruba politician is the presidential Flag bearer of the APC.
Do you think PDP is just going to pull Ambode from nowhere and hand him the ticket without negotiation?

It is going to be a product of consensus after intense negotiations which would forestall any bad blood in the party as the elections approach.

If anything, PDP has demonstrated that they are expert consensus builders.

Tax collection is a factor that comes with a given government tax policy! People should be mindful of this fact.
Some states or countries believe in tax and spend. Others allow capitalists within their enclaves to hold more funds in order to plough such back into their businesses and grow more wealth and employment. People need to understand this.

Abia state, Anambra state and Rivers States, are some of the most viable states in the East without oil revenue. So if the state governments decide to place less emphasis on stringent tax collection, one should ask about the motives behind such policy. Rather than running along with the narrative that Abia state is not viable.
Aba alone generates more income for businesses than half of southern states..
Ignore the guy.

Look at the table.

Abia has grand total of 7.5billion IGR while Ekiti has 6.5billion but he chose to close his eyes on Ekiti and spew trash about Abia.

Abia state is now offilially the least revenue generating state in the South. Abia is now ranking with Northern states

what could be the issue.
1. Sit at home and disruption of business ecosystem
2. lack of capacity of the present Government
3. Hangover from military and police siege leading to relocation of businesses
4. Corruption by the present Abia Regime and ineptitude to evolve to a digital state

Please lets discuss
Check your own table...

In the period under review, Abia generated 7.5billion.

Ekiti on the other hand generated about 6.5billion. That’s 1billion less of Abia.

But you chose to ignore Ekiti and tackle Abia while it is actually Ekiti that is now struggling in the same position with northern states.

See how hatred has blurred your vision.

Who do you this thing?

Yeah, but the thing is, try arguing for fuel subsidy removal in public (Lord knows I don't try that)...and you are basically asking to be beaten up in this country. It is an article of faith that we must have subsides.

I'm even surprised GEJ tried to somewhat completely remove subsidy..something hard men like Abacha and Obasanjo did not even attempt.

I suspect Buhari loves subsides though...(even the partial removal he did in 2015 was done under strong advice..same for the other ones he did).

All in all, the thing has to go. NNPC is now basically running on empty. That it hasn't collapsed under the funding of subsides, and rendering to Caesar that which is Caesar's is a miracle.
That’s it!

Subsidy has to go. It must go.

We can’t be claiming oil producing country while the money made from the oil keeps going away through the same pipeline it was drilled. It’s pathetic.

About most Nigerians’ aversion to subsidy removal, I blame it on lack of information and orientation. If people are properly informed of the gains that subsidy removal would bring, they’d be less antagonistic to it.

But we’ll, with the signing of the PIA to law, a deadline has been set for final subsidy removal which I trust Buhari to keep to. There would be momentary pain, yes, but we would be better off in the long run.

Ekealterego:
What is the difference between Izzi, Ezza and mgbo or Ngbo... I knew a couple of Mgbo/Ngbo people, they seem to be scared of Ezzas too.

Which of the dialect is the most difficult. I heard Ezza is... I know the Ngbo dialect... although I think they all sound the same.

I have heard people say, Ezza-mgbo, and Ezza with a combination of other groups..

Is it that Ezzas are found in everywhere in Ebonyi state? Where is their original home? or base Location.

The Effium people are Orring/Korring. They have two languages but I know one of them who will behead you if you say he is not Igbo.
How can there be a lasting peace in these communities? What can other Igbo communities do to resolve this issues... these clashes are always a point of shame for the bigger Igbo nation.

I pray that there is peace between Ezzas and these communities.
First, there’s no much difference between Izzi, Ezza, Ngbo/Mgbo and Ikwo. Legend has it they are four brothers of the same parents but Ezza is the eldest ( according to legend). There’s also need to note that Ezzamgbo is Ngbo/Mgbo land and has nothing to do with Ezza people.

About the dialects, there are some not-so-hardline differences between the dialects. But these differences might not easily be noticed by non Ebonyians. But natives know who is who when we speak. That is the four tribes have their unique dialects.

Where is really Ezza land? The only aboriginal land of Ezza people are Ezza North and Ezza South Local Governments. But because they give birth to many children and marry a lot of wives, their land couldn’t contain them anymore so they started moving to other people’s territories where they see empty space.

That’s how they moved to Ezillo.
Same way they moved to Effium.
Same way they also moved to Akpoga and Nkomoro nike in Enugu state.

In each of these places, when they come, they pose as harmless visitors and beg you to allow them settle. Once you let them settle, like the Fulanis, they would tell their brothers elsewhere of a new found settlement and they will troop in droves. When you who is their landlord now tries to question their population explosion, they turn around start waging war against you and claim they own the land with you.

Like the first statement you made on you comment about knowing an Ngbo person who is scared of Ezza people, that’s same is are the Izzi and Ikwo scared of them. Well not scared of them but we dread them. This is also true of other ethnic groups in Ebonyi.

To tell you how bad it is, while growing up as children, we are consistently warned of the dangers of Ezza people. To always keep them at arms length and never to give them an inch of our land. These words are not out of sheer hatred but the product of bad experiences that ours fathers have had with their fathers long before we were born. All those who have ignored these warnings have always regretted it. ALWAYS!!!

.

It is true, which is why I don't like subsides, and why it should have gone

The cost of producing and transporting (to end user) of petrol is not static, thus, the cost of keeping it cheap is also not static, and keeps going up.

That's why oil subsidy must go.

True , Tinubu did use subsidy removal, along with Bubu for poltiricks, but the truth is, most Nigerians , then and now, don't want subsidy gone. Even supporters of GEJ.

i suggest you open a thread saying subsidy must go....you would get a lot of abuse and insult.

Nigerians love cheap fuel Tinubu and Buhari, like most politicians, took advantage of the anger of the people. Had they supported subsidy removal, they and GEJ would have been swept out of power, and replaced with politicians who would keep subsides.
Nigerians are used to pain. Doesn’t mean I support us being put through pain though.

But if not for those protests, in matter of one or two months, we would have gotten used to it and the clamour will die down. Take electricity tariff hike for instance, we shouted on top of our voices then but are we not quiet now?

So I blame Tinubu and Buhari who knew better than most uninformed Nigerians that removal of subsidy would have saved government a lot wasteful spendings and make funds available for other projects but they chose to play politics against national interest. Today they are champions of subsidy removal. Imagine such hypocrisy.

But in all I blame GEJ more for not standing his ground then and daring the consequence. But of course he was scared of losing reelection which he lost anyways.

867billion naira paid out as subsidy in 9 months alone.

I wonder if these claims are usually audited by independent auditors.

Meanwhile this fuel subsidy issue is what we would have been done with for as far back as 2012 if not for Tinubu who mobilized his urchins to Ojota square to protest against that wonderful action that would have saved us from this mess.

Tinubu has done this country shege all in the quest for power.

But I curse him this day that that power he desperately seeks and has done dirty deeds and enter dangerous alliances for, will forever elude him till leaves this earth.

Devilish party from the pit of hell
No Fahdiga.

I have not seen anyway that Direct primaries will be better than Indirect Primaries.

The few instances of Direct Primaries have proven why it is not really a credible option.

In Lagos, there was 900,000 votes for Sanwolu during the APC direct primaries but same Sanwolu couldn’t get more than 700,000 votes during election proper. Which questions the credibility of the numbers that were churned out during the Direct Primaries.

Again in Anambra, Andy Uba got over 200,000 votes during the direct primaries but is struggling to get up to 50,000 votes in the election proper. And you are forced to ask where the remaining thousands are.

So to me, Direct Primaries is more likely to be abused than Indirect Primaries.
