The boldened above, was what I meant. I didn't mention anything about increased VAT rate . If you read my post carefully, I mentioned this --> "A lot of people are jobless and hungry, yet what you are more concerned about, is taxing them more ". Now upon all the taxes that the federal government has been collecting, how has the economy fared so far. Now they want to increase tax on calls and mobile data.

Now compare Tinubu's solution of taxing to other aspirants' solution ,such as Peter obi's
Tinubu's solution is the practical thing to do. Peter Obi's solution is more of theories. How does he intend to get the money to make Nigeria a producing country? Or you think he can simply will it into existence?

It's either the Government take more loans, widen the tax net and or remove fuel subsidy. Any other thing is playing to the gallery and not a solution.

I will take any politician campaigning against APC serious if they come out with their full chest and say they will reduce all the taxes and duties that Buhari increase if they become President.

Let Atiku and Peter Obi come out and say that if Buhari remove the fuel subsidy before 2023, they will put it back if they get there.

If they cannot say this, then it means they know that what he's doing is necessary.

These are the questions they should ask them during their Arise interview.

"Mr Peter Obi, will you bring back the fuel subsidy if Buhari remove it before handing over in 2023?
Mr Atiku Abubakar, will you reduce taxes and excise duties if you become President?"

I dare both of them to answer yes to that question.

Are you saying school fees is the only source of income to the universities? What then is the source of income to the national assembly and how much is allocated to the national assembly? You guys give government room to play on your head. How much do politicians steal? One single politician steals more that 100billion and yet universities do not have good structures. It's a big mess.

The government talking about school fees are scamming you. We have been selling oil. Where are the money going to? I remembered universities had a good face lift under Obasanjo. Universities roads were tared under him. Then, school fees were FREE. How was that possible?
When you look at how many billions is spent on education, infrastructures, payment of salaries etc, you will see where the money from oil is going to.

School was free under Obasanjo and subsided up until now, that is why our educational infrastructures isn't growing as expected.

Do you know how much America get from oil and other stuffs yearly? But still their education is as expensive that 71% of American citizens cannot go to college without the Government helping them with loans and grants.
Now ask yourself why are American schools not free??

All you guys talk about is oil money, oil money..
Do you know that the sum total of all the monies we get from oil since 1960 up until 2022 isn't up to America's one year defense Budget?

That was how one illiterate was telling me that Nigeria is richer than America. That America gave their citizens an average of N1,500 during the covid 19. I sat the fool down, open my calculator app and calculate how much Nigerian Government will spend if they give 200 million Nigerians even as low as 50k. We saw that it was almost 1/3 of our national budget.

Until we all sit down and reason things without emotions, we will keep on blaming every single goverment.

Impressive with your analysis/comments on this thread so far. I guess you are financially inclined and savvy about public finance matters for you to posit such points. So good are your points I have had to comment for the first time in donkey years.

Many think it is rocket science to have a viable working system as is obtainable in western climes without doing their bits to achieve that here with our thoughts and ways.

The average Nigerian student goes berserk with watton destruction of facilities when fees are raised in public schools while not in the know that subsidy on tertiary education by Government is what even allows for such fees in this day and time yet they say nothing is done.

Seeing persons advocate for salary increases in bankruptcy and inflationary periods for ASUU and not knowing that every other group like NNASU, Polythecnics, Colleges of Education, Teachers, Doctors and other medical personnel etc, would send us to situations worse than Venezuela years back. Something has to give way and for now the best bets are in petrol, power and tertiary education. The pool should go to quality healthcare and Basic education till secondary level.

In summary, Nigerians do not really know what they want. Till we have a FUNCTIONAL CREDIT SYSTEM which would bring about INCREASED REVENUES, everything we hope for would be mostly of wishful thoughts. We pander alot this way hoping to arrive in eldorado.
True. The average Nigerian will compare the infrastructures they see in other universities but will never talk about the school fees of those universities

Is it the lecturer's salary demand that is causing that one. Still the so called leaders send their wards to study abroad. Still we hear cases of one person stealing billions. My friend it's a mesh of problems. If the universities are up to standard we will know who to blame.

Stop giving the corrupt government excuses. They are just bunch of fraudsters

The first question you are supposed to ask is "Why are there so many poor parents unable to pay their wards school fees? Why are UK parents and US parents able to pay theirs?"

Do you understand what economy means?
A large percentage of people in the UK and US cannot afford studying in their universities without loans, grants or scholarships. An alternative way is for their parents to be saving the college money right from when they were born.

In Nigeria today, an average parent will start looking for money to pay school fees the day the child says, "daddy, I've gotten admission" and many send their children to school without without loans.

A whooping 71% of Americans who go to their colleges can't do so without Government aid

Until we become fully an export country and our naira is really strong.

Like it or not, Nigeria will remain a consumption country in those subsidies remain. Nobody can make Nigeria a production without increasing taxes, duties or removing subsidies and (or) collecting billions of dollars worth of loans. If those things are not done, any cut on unnecessary costs and spending is nothing but a waste of time.

And the sad truth is that many Obidients doesn't even know this fact.
Peter Obi will be able to do nothing if he doesn't take loans or increase taxes and duties (thereby causing prices of things to rise and increasing our debts portfolio).
If he likes, let him budget only one car for his convoy and one meal a day as a president and wear only one shoe and watch for his complete 8 years in power, he will be able to do nada as a President if subsidies remains.
ASUU will keep going on strike and our refineries will never be able to function.

Sha I'm glad that Buhari is just waiting for Dangote's Refinery to be completed before he completely remove fuel subsidy next year. Those that wants to die should die and the country will move on after them.

If paradventure, Peter Obi becomes President he should reduce fuel back to N65 naira and watch Dangote refinery becomes moribund just like our 3 NNPC refineries.

As for ASUU strike, Students should pick between no strike again and a conducive learning environment but paying as high as 100k for federal universities or pay 10k school fees and ASUU striking 6 months, twice a year and students lapping each other in their lecture theatres.

Lagos State Government under the military could no go on an aggressive revenue generation drive.

IGRs are generated by states through Pay-As-You-Earn Tax (PAYE), Direct Assessment, Road Taxes and revenues from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA)s. Its a function of population and the amount of commercial activities taking place in the state. Lagos state was already the commercial capital of Nigeria with huge revenue generating potential before Tinubu came in. Tinubu was not the one that built the infrastructures that made Lagos a commercial hob.
You ended up saying nothing.
Lagos as the commercial capital was generating a meagre sum of N600 million monthly before Tinubu and before he left Lagos was generating to 45-50 billion monthly. Whether it was through PAYE, Direct Assessment, Road Taxes and revenues from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA)s etc is another story entirely. What we know is that he was able to increase the IGR by a large scale.

If I was to choose between a manager that did that for my company or a manager that saves while my bankers and cleaners went on strike for 13 whooping months, I will definitely choose the former.

If we are to compare the track records of all previous governors/ military administrators of lagos state, we would find that Tinubu's 8 year tenure was not extra ordinary. Lagos has been the commercial nerve Centre of Nigeria for decades, it doesn't take much to "perform".

Anyway, we are talking about religious sentiments. A Muslim Muslim ticket is insensitive to the political sentiments of most Christians, particularly at this times, where Buhari had polarized the ethnic and religious atmosphere.

Does it not stink of hypocrisy when ethnic sentiment was employed to choose the APC flag bearer (Yoruba lokan), but you want Christians to employ competency when it comes to religion.
We might as well employ competency to choose a Fulani Fulani ticket or a Yoruba Yoruba ticket.
If a bank manager increases the revenue of first bank from 1 billion to 10 billion, will you disregard his ingenuity and say he only did that because first bank was already rich and had high revenue generation before him?
