Lagos state is 3577 square kilometres
Singapore , a country is about 770 square kilometres with about 6 million people
Singapore has the 2nd largest port in the whole doing several times the tonnage that Lagos does SEVERAL TIMES

The issue of congestion in Lagos is a non issue. The reality is that the ports in Lagos are inefficient. We cannot expect the Nigerian government to run an efficient port .That is better done by the private sector.

e.g. Ports in Lagos carry out operations that could happen elsewhere. like customs checks on containers.
A dry port in Ibadan Benin or Abuja linked to the ports by rail can be used to process containers not intended for use in Lagos and Customs checks can happen there. We should not be removing containers from Lagos on the back of lorries that is very inefficient

Once rail evacuation is in place you won't even know there is a port there.
Felixstowe in UK which we see has a population of under 50000 people and does many times more than what Lagos is doing in tonnage
Because of what they will eat the Customs and NPA cause all kinds of delays. The Customs work can be moved to a dry inland dock and completely out of Lagos State

The problem with Nigeria is us comparing Nigeria with nations that have been developing for over 100 and even thousands of years ago. UK, US, Germany, China Egypt etc are nations that were in existence even before our first engineer, technicians, accountants, doctors etc were born.
Nigeria is a nation that is just one generation away from illiteracy. 95% of all our grandparents were all illiterates. So how do we compare ourselves to nations that have started Nation building generations ago and some of which colonized us and stunted our growth.
Nigeria development is slow quite all right mostly due to our foolish and corrupt leaders but it would still take us a lot of decades to catch up with those countries no matter who lead Nigeria unless another World war or something castastrophic happens to those other countries.

One thing I'm quite sure of is that the next half a century will bring something good for Nigeria and Africa

Lagos state has Apapa Port and Tincan Island Ports. Major patrons of these Ports are people of South East extraction. They are the major importers.

Sadly, no single Port in the southeast stretch. They freight their goods from Lagos Ports and onward bound southeast. This is not fair.

Yet,another Port is to be added to existing Ports at Badagry,less than 60 kilometers from Lagos. Where is the fairness and justice.

This skewed development is what's giving rise to separatist agitations in the country. FG could do better by spreading development to all regions of the country Not only Lagos.
