OP, stop trying to defend the last administration . All the administrations before the last have their own share of the blame. The insurgency started heating up in 2012 after the election of GEJ. All through this time, GEJ treated teh boko haram crises like vengeance against his administration by the northern elites. He ignored the army all the while, ignoring to deal with the situation. Throughout this period, the budget spending on defence was over 7 billion dollars in the total 4 seven years excluding security votes dashed out to most nothern PDP governors in the name of fighting boko haram. This amount is 20 times more than that of uganda and chad, ethiopia . While the latter(most of their fighter jets were bought from russia) was acquiring generation fighter jets we were running after second hand value alpha jets. It took the kidnap of the chibok girls and the approaching general election for the administration to wake up to its responsibility. Before then tens of thousands of lives had been lost to GEJs indecisiveness.

Talk is cheap. The judiciary and the Nigerian Police Force are the major contributors to the country's high wave of crime. Why should a ritualist with connections delay justice for up to seven years, when it took him just ten minutes to commit the heinous crime. High profile crimes in other climes like OJ Simpsons, Oscar pistorius, Richard Murdoch did not take two years to serve. Some times i wonder how our judges manage to raise their head in the league of global judges. Nigeria's judiciary needs total overhaul and spritual cleansing.

OMG. I cant believe this man was a former NSA. He cant lie to get a box of chocolate from my four year old cousin. T72 tanks, F7 jets, Alpha jets are being retired worldwide. Most of these equipments are all second hand value. Its funny how men like this got so high in the seat of power. GEJ's govt was clownish that made a joke out of this country. Never again will PDP rule this country.

There are nairalanders who will not comment on threads like this because such news is bad for their political god father, our former CinC who had no business being in power. Abeg, the COAS should regularly serve all men of the great Nigerian Army shilled bottles of orijin and ISI EWU every weekend, as they are making us proud. Some of us take the success of the nigerian army for granted. The almighty United States army with all the war machinery in the world has never been able to quell any religious insurgency in the world. Its high time we invite uncle sam and give him tutorials on how to defeat islamic insurgency without all the drones and F16 jets they are parading all over the middle east.

Who needs the US Army when we have the great Nigerian Army.

Six years the same story. Battle of Nigeria against Boko Haram. Hardly any more news about infrastructure developments in Nigeria. Not even talk of latest technology break- throughs as in order countries.

But 200,000,000 mumus fold their arms, they wait to read next story about their brothers and sisters in Boko Haram or in Nigeria army being killed in battle.
Boko Haram are not foolish people who go about killing people for nothing. They fight to make Nigeria sharia criminal laws friendly. But half of Nigeria, mostly in the south cannot condone use of sharia criminal laws.

Instead of splitting the country along tolerance lines of ideologies and cultures, Nigerians kill themselves in Boko Haram fight, bring the economy to near mess, and even pray superpowers to send the country more arms and ammunition to kill themselves.
Extremists like boko haram and ISIS are not just fighting for the implementation of islam as practised in the quran, they want to subject the entire human race to islam. God is a god of diversity, that is why he created twos or three types of everything he created. He created humans of different races, he created birds of different species, animals of different species, the weather and everything the world evolves around. So why are these extremists beent on forcing the whole world to practice a particular religion. Obasanjo gave the north sharia hoping it will appease the north, some elements in the north asked for more which is why boko haram became an offshoot of extremism. Why is saudi arabia, the holy land been threatened by ISIS afterall sharia has been in existence in there for centuries. sharia has become a political tool in the hands of wealthy and influential islamic leaders. ISLAM should look deep inside and seek the true peace of god.

Nigeria cant face a continental foe with these outdated relics. The former NSA has a lot to explain. Most of these war equipments are second hand or third hand valued. For so much that was budgeted for, nigeria can acquire better war machines than these.

This is how armed robbers and killers are allowed to breed in this country especially lagos. Its obvious some of the men of the NPF are conniving with these bandits. They start by buying locally made guns for operations like these as time goes on they save enough to buy assault rifles and machine guns to rob banks and shed blood. The NPF and lagos state govt know these spots and would rather do nothing or enough about it.

Some parts of your post are not true ...or let me just say they are "plain naive"!
I will just summarise that l was at a bank in Lagos late last year, to be specific, it was GTBank at Around Adeniran Ogunsanya area.
I wanted to buy some forex to make an offshore payment for a vehicle l bought in the USA.
The Bank staff, told me they cant sell Dollars to me, despite my request that l have proof of the transactions and it is legit and l have the naira equivalent.
Funnily, and this is where it really gets funny, the Head of the forex desk at that GTBank branch, directed me to a "Mallam' who was lurking nearby and told me "That Mallam can help you".

I went to Mallam and told him what l want.
Mallam said no problem, he would sell to me but the price was about #30naira per Dollar higher than the bank rate!

I went back to the GTBank Staff and asked him why he thinks l should buy it at that rate when all they needed do what use my Form-M to bid on my behalf with CBN?
GTBank staff just looked at me and said Oga, if you really need it, that is how we can help you get it.

Meanwhile, as l was there "speaking grammar", Mallam has sold Dollars to a few people who dont give a hoot!
And the scary part of it was that l saw with my own eyes as the GTBank staff was transferring the Dollar (which they bought officially at a lower rate from CBN, to the Mallam), and l assume they all share the 'extra' on top.

The juiciest part of all these is that I HAVE EVERYTHING CAPTURED SECRETLY ON VIDEO. undecided undecided wink
I am torn between exposing this scam (and probably ending the career of those involved) or holding onto it and thus allowing such scam to be ongoing.
As someone who have worked in various banks in the late 90's and early 2000's, l have seen it and l can tell you authoritatively that the scam is sanctioned by the Management of every Bank, right from the M.D., to the "trusted" head of Forex Dept in every bank.

so, if anyone should be held responsible for this scam, it should be the "big fishes" (from the Managers, to the M.D's,), not just the "small fries" who man the forex desk.
Welcome to Round-tripping 2.0!

We are still on a "long Tin".

Thanks for relating your experience. These are the demons that have been hunting our economy. Barcanister sees nothing wrong in this. Typical GEJ mentality.

The banks and BDC are most likely to lose. I remember two years ago i tried to import some goods from china, my bank refused to accept naira to be deposited in my DOM account(@ official rate), i had to go to the black market to get the needed dollar and i got it @ a rate 20 percent higher than official exchange rate. ON getting to the bank, my bank imposed different cut-throat charges(@ unofficial rate converted to naira) that would make my goods expensive on the long run. The BDC and the banks operate a rackettering ring that ensures that they make enough profits all the time and the end consumers are the ones at loss. A banker friend of mine told me the BDC exchange the dollars with the banks at a rate that both parties profit. I also learnt that the black market traders have a way of striking juicy deals with the banks when they have clients who are willing to buy large amounts of dollars but are not ready to meet CBN demand (backdoor currency trade). Is this not money laundering? Right now, i am waiting for thr dollar to crash to all time low before i make my order. Op, all you are saying is impractical theory. Where in the world is currency sold in the open? The banks create scarcity, the black markets make profit from speculation and they share profits with the banks. Op, not everyone is a novice on nairaland.

Nigerian Army Brigade to be Established at Sambisa Forest .

Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Tukur Buratai, may have concluded plans to establish a Special Task Force Battalion to be located at Sambisa Forest.

Punch news online says the plan was part of efforts to re-organise the Army and take the war to the Boko Haram insurgents.

The planned brigade to be named the 29th Special Task Force Brigade under 7th Division would be saddled with the responsibility of pursuing the insurgents in the vast area.

It would also discourage the insurgents from having territories which they could use to carry out attacks in the Lake Chad Basin area.

“The brigade will be there permanently to go after the insurgents, destroy their stronghold and restore sanity in the area. The troops are very excited about the idea.” a military official says.

However, a security analyst, Ben Okezie, frowned on the planned establishment of a brigade inside Sambisa Forest, saying he did not understand the rationale behind the decision.

According to him, the move was unnecessary since the army has a division in Borno State where the forest is located.

He said the army only needs better strategies to tackle the insurgents.

He also dismissed the relocation of the Command and Control Centre to Maiduguri, saying it might not achieve any result.
Is ben okezie an army officer or a soothsayer? Some analysts dont know when to draw the line over military matters. I salute the courage and tactical approach of the general. One more brigade should be established to strategically cover the entire bornu state. Bornu state has a long history of over the border armed militancy owing to its proximity to border towns. With ISIS and other extremist islamic groups spreading through the sahel, this move will help thwart any incursion from the porous borders.

There is nothing wrong in having bad loans, service the loans and the public will repose confident in your office. Being a true leader is about resposibility and humility. The ugly truth is that from the look of things, the strength the naira is gathering is only superficial triggered by mere speculation. The dollar will always the stronger currency.

The real value for naira to dollar should be in the neighborhood of 220 -230 naira per dollar. This is only possible due to the current economic realities.

For those of us that keep shouting 1naira to 1 dollar. You are only dreaming. It will never happen in this our generation.

Back to your question. There is absolutely no current economic measure to stabilize the naira .
Diversification is the next step to take, the restriction of 49 products access to locally sourced dollars is also contributory. By the time we start refining our crude oil and stop importation, more employment will be generated and economy grows. If thats not growth, then what is it?
Business › Re: Chadians, Ghanaians, Others Storm Nigeria For Dollars-the Nation by persius555(m): 9:58am On Aug 04, 2015
If the value of the naira continues to appreciate against the dollar, nigerians in diaspora will feel the pinch more as they would have they send more money back to complate whatever projects requires financial commitment. The value of looted funds currently lying in foreign backs would eventually lose value against the local currency. Good as it sounds, FDI might also be affected as naira further appreciates against incoming funds. What the govt should work towards is continous sustainance of all monetary and banking policies that are already in place. We approaching a point of economic stability. In nigeria, our problem has always been inconsistent implementation of policies.

If PMB had announced his cabinet ministers before now, some of the achievement we have seen in the last two months wouldnt have been possible as some of these ministers constitute govt bureaucracy that hinders genuine development. With a ninister in place, some of the devilish, evil scheming cabals would have gone into their habit of offering bribes to the ministers as this has been the norm for many years. As it is, there are no ministers to influence and frustrate the good works of governance, the civil service and govt parastatals are now up and doing.
