Samgreguc: and the specialist are low skilled? . . . ,sammie, how many consultants are in nigeria ?sammie,i hope you know senior reghistrars are already specialists ? infact in some institutions in some countries, you can be employed as a specialist with your part 1 cert...i hope you know ?sammie, you of all people should know that MOs are no match for resident doctors anyday. infact,it is even easier for the govt to sack consultants than residents IF saving money is their wahala. i am an SR and i know the amount of responsibility i carry in the hospital. i supervise junior regs and i have to be around when the consultant comes for rounds. infact in my department, some consultants will not teach or review cases if the SR in their unit is not around. when SRs are fully on ground, consultants have far less issues. fact!!! sammie,if you get to a teaching hospital by 3 or 4am, you will meet residents on ground. true or false ?? |
![]() it appears nigerians understimate the stupidity of our leaders!! jonathan and his ministers embarrassing nigerians regularly. dull leaders, dull people! |
lanicky: If d doctors were not on strike nd if d federal government had answered them in time ADENIYI ADETUYI ANDREW would't av died.sorry for your loss but the blame lies squarely at the feet of your leaders. do not blame the doctors ....and like madamoringo said, pay attention to who leads you. get interested in politics why won't our leaders kill us when our youths are busy discussing sex and different love making positions. take heart! ........and let me repeat, if you think the doctors are the losers in this crisis, then its a pity. |
lastpage: Honestly, Nigeria seems Phucked!god bless you!!! if only our president had a third of your brains. if you are a youth,i am impressed by your command of the english language, your grasp of issues and the pattern in which you express yourself. very impressed. its a sad situation honestly that people like you are in the minority. but rest assured we have gotten your message and will tweak our own attitudes any way we can. god bless you once again. ![]() |
ohzee: Quite true. Lots of doctors are looking for residency posts, but I can bet you that after being employed and they work for just 3 months in the same rot that the sacked ones were working, they TOO will down tools! It will just be a merry-go-round! Treating the symptoms without tackling the underlying disease is as good as doing nothing. If the government really means well for the health sector they will call a round table discussion of all the warring parties and have a clear ROAD MAP for the health sector which ALL can see and refer to. That will be the BEGINNING of good things for the PATIENTS, DOCTORS AND ALL HEALTH WORKERSsensible post! you give me hope! |
lrguru: mr, I do not have the time to exchange words with you cos u seem depressed at the moment. Engagin word with you will be the final straw and I would not want to be held responsible for ur mental breakdown. Once again go and sleep, but if u don't have any bed cos u were evicted from govt property, then take a stroll it will help relax ur nervepeople like you are lucky the internet does not need a visa. sorry if you are offended. |
altwireless stop posting unrealistic figures from the hospital website. come to UPTH and count the resident doctors. dont argue with people on ground. |
lrguru: adviser, take ur advice elsewhere or better still advice urself. If u are not a medical student, u must be one of the sacked RD's cos all ur post on this thread seems bitter toward FG and anyone who talks about the dr's. U seem to cry more than the bereaved my very dear friend. Go and sleep before u get hypertension and FYI FG is not rescinding the decision on sack, so u better face realityuntil you can define doctor-patient ratio, you do not have the brain capacity to engage in a debate. QED |
akmoh: Federal govt cannot employ all the docs in Nigeria. Do you know that some private hospitals have residency programs already? I really don't know where you got your figures from that the number docs sacked is 16,000. That's not true. Of one of the 24 demands by NARD, allowing house officers to joint the NARD is to enable the NARD increase her membership. The house officers are more than the residents docs and they are not up to 16,000 , so there is no way resident docs are up to that number.how many consultants do you think are in nigeria ![]() |
lrguru: even if they pay doctors 1-million naira monthly, in 5-months time, they will ask for 1.5million naira or go on strike. Dr's say that dr-patient ratio is 1:6400, and nigeria has 150million people. Does it mean that all nigerians are sick people or go to the hospital everyday. May I remind the doctors that not everybody patronize govt hospitals and not all even go to hospital. Some people have never even visited hospital for the past 10 yrs or more, and some prefer the traditional method. So if we wnt to calculate dr-patient ratio, we can say the ratio is 1:100 on monthly bases. ...you go fear reasoning... guy please remove this post so you dont make a fool of yourself. friendly advice. |
akmoh: So fed govtUPTH alone has not less than 600 resident doctors. fact!!! |
MOBBDEEP: But you get ample time to answer these haters oohhhh!!!i agree with you boss. but i get small time.. ![]() |
visit this link and read the comments especially from the white posters. i will highlight a few. http://stream.aljazeera.com/story/201408152112-0024070 Stewed fruitbat smothered in dictators. Go Africa! -chris collier Manipulation through guilt is quite old. These guys are expected to embrace slavery where they work without compensation because if they dont, people will die. What is more evil - slavery, coersion and manipulation through guilt or those forcing people to accept those choices? -Maryellen Haueisen "and the 10 cases are the doctors and nurses that attended to patrick sawer when he flew to Nigeria from liberia." <--- if that is the reality of the situation that shows more support for the medical professionals on strike and for their cause. If ten nurses and doctors actually became infected treating one patient [or even two or three], then that says a lot about the conditions they are forced to work in- that the conditions are terrible and they are likely frequently exposed to dangerous pathogens. This, in turn means that patients are also frequently exposed to contamination from other diseases which can be spread from other patients and the very staff and professionals who are trying to help them. Even if it wasn't ten medical staff, but still ten individuals from one person [even two] in such a short amount of time, that is highly alarming as well. The fact that the doctors' actions are seen as selfish- that they want to have safe conditions- is also disturbing. Supporting these medical professionals is not about them being selfish. It is about ensuring the best possible environment and therefore the best possible outcome for EVERYONE. And _particularly_ now? Not just everyone in a specific country or region to be perfectly frank. -joelle marie look at the reasoning of people in developed countries, where things work. i am particularly thrilled at the last two comments. very cerebral analysis of issues. the third poster doesnt even know why doctors are on strike but look carefully at her systematic analysis. doctors in countries with the above citizens dont have to go on strike. the citizens protest on their behalf. that there is reason many people will murder their parents and siblings to get a visa to the US. they dont just have good carefully chosen leaders BUT also a public that is WELL-INFORMED. nigeria is burdened with people who reason in the EXACT OPPOSITE. people who depend on agbo and salt water to fight ebola.they reason like monkeys and then get annoyed when the white man calls them monkeys. |

edaolaropin: ...and what if the consultants join the strike?good question. they forget consultants,MOs and HOs are NMA members. can consultants work without their residents ![]() look, your governmemnt is even confused.i am not even sure they know who are on strike. NMA is on strike and it encompasses resident doctors, consultants, house officers......every doctor in short. look at another circular released today. it shows their confusion. if they had the consultants on their side before,i am not sure they still have it with the tone of the circular below

jonathans advisers should all be rounded up and shot honestly. i am beginning to feel that some people are deliberately ill advising this man in order to embarass him and gradually edge him out. NUPENG,PENGASSAN,ASUU,NBA,NLC,TUC,NUT are all watching. he has set a precedent that many unions will not allow stand because it could be them tomorrow. the outcry hasnt started coming yet. |
dhtml18: Impossicant, the RESIDENT doctors are the powerhouse of teaching hospitals(tertiary centers) - without them, the teaching hospital structure can never work - either they convert all the teaching hospitals to general hospitals or they simply place a CLOSED SIGN OVER THEM ALL.na just the ordinary masses i dey pity. thats why when i read some comments from nigerians here,i laugh. your government can destroy public health after all they dont use those hospitals with the common man. anyway this drama ends, the doctors will not be the loosers. if nigerians havent realised that by now, then its a pity. if push comes to shove and the public health system crumbles, nigerians, for those who can afford it,would move to private hospitals and meet those same doctors. |
uncleu: Resident doctors in Nigeria tend to forget that they are in for short training program. They are not indispensable. The consultants can run any hospital with house officers and medical officers. There are thousands of young doctors with primaries waiting and looking for places to do residency. Lift this suspension after six months, throw application process open to everybody and see if resident doctors will go on strike again. really ?? make we dey watch. |
dhtml18: DONT BE FOOLED! NO OYINBO DOCTOR GO FIT WORK FOR ALL THESE RUBBISH GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS ![]() he wants to replace resident doctors with medical officers, fresh graduate doctors who dont know their left from their right so that they can experiment on nigerians.. |
Dopefiend: Are you OK? Why would doctors wanna do that? Doctors carrying arms; turning to petty terrorists.......with all their education?your IQ is quite low. no offence |
cbrass: What's this president thinking before sacking all the nations doctors, then who will take their placenot just any doctor o!! he sacked the very people on which our health system is based. looks like you guys dont understand who resident doctors are. he sacked highly skilled doctors!! that is you CANT REPLACE THEM WITH OTHER DOCTORS. THAT IS THE ISSUE. |
i hope nigerians know that many of their soldiers in borno have gone AWOL. some are looking for how to resign. i perrsonally know 2 in PH,bori camp who ran from borno. the army is looking for them as i type. they say our leaders do not care about us. imagine rationing bullets when you are fighting a war. .....YET some people swear they will kill themselve to make this incompetent man come back in 2015. we are a sick nation! |
story!!! jonathan has played his trump card. unintelligent man! akin to a carpenter who has only a hammer in his tool box and as such sees a nail in every problem. when he sobers up,he knows where to find the doctors........ ....and by the way,i hope he has also gotten locum consultants from cuba to resume on monday?? bunchajokers! |
thought i should share this article by emeka ugwuonye, the lawyer. |
Emeka UgwuonyeThe Due Process Advocates (DPA) NEGLECT OF THE EBOLA PATIENTS: THE WORST THAT WE FEARED HAPPENED: When I speak out against the Nigerian Government, many people, particularly the supporters of the government, accuse me of all manner of evil. They think they love Nigeria better than I do. But the fact is that I have been right. Nigerian Government is the worst on earth. It is made up of criminals and incompetent fools from top to bottom. I hate to have to speak of them like this. But I cannot run away from the truth. Nigerian Government officials are the most corrupt. They are the most ignorant. They do not care about their country. They do not care about their people. Openly they speak of one Nigeria and patriotism. But behind, they work so hard to destroy the country. Even on common things like fighting Ebola, they are uselessly unable to perform the basic things. They quickly announced the allocation of 1.9 Billion Naira, which they have earmarked to embezzle. Those who would use that money to buy mansions in Europe and America already know themselves. So, they abandoned our Ebola patients to die. They went to televisions and spoke nonsense. But in fact, they never cared about the patients. No oxygen canisters. No basic medication and equipments that WHO has recommended. Indeed, Nigerian Government isolated the Ebola patients for the purpose of finishing them up. It is mind bugging to face up to the exceptional neglect these patients have suffered. To get a better picture, consider the following statements from Mr. John Okeiyi Kalu (JOK) who stayed in touch with an Ebola patient in isolation till the last. JOK wrote: "My basic conclusion is that Nigeria and the world failed Justina. She (Justina Ejelonu, one of the nurses) could have lived if all that was required at the quarantine place was provided. Her fiancé shares my view and sent this to me a while ago: "Am presently at the hospital to get her death certificate. Am angry n will do what Justina will do for me if its me. These pple are being brought here to die n that's all but I can't watch it."" ………….. "I was on the phone with the fiancé who stopped over yesterday morning at the market to buy a few things Justina will need. We mapped out our plan on what to do that day, including getting a list of essential drugs from the WHO staff so we can urgently procure them and also inform the authorities that those items are not available. When he arrived at the hospital to deliver what he bought and await Yako's arrival with the new oxygen canister, he sent me this initially confusing message "my brother Obioma is gone"" …………….. "Due to the work we did quietly without rabble rousing, the nation is now focused on the state of the quarantine facility. Relatives of patints have found their voices and are protesting. The media is focusing on details like why there is no oxygen, infusion and other medical supplies there. We have given what information we have to them. As you now know, we got 3 media people to hear directly from Justina. 2 of them have published already and the 3rd one is so angry that I am "scared" of what he will publish this saturday in his feature story." Those who defend Nigeria or Nigerian Government really has to understand that they are defending the worst regime on earth. They are defending idiots and crooks. It is not about political parties. I don't support any. I don't care who is in power. What matters is what do they do for the people of this country? How could they allow our citizens die like chicken? Even Guinea and Sierra Leone and Liberia have all done better than the big-for-nothing Nigeria. |
vibrio: Phantom, are you a super-lion? Please replyif you mean lion as per one who graduated from the one and only "den" in the south-east ,then yes i am. ![]() |
people whipping up sentiments left right and center. i feel for the lady but she must have been told that nasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of the deadliest cancers and nothing much could be done except palliative treatment most especially when it has spread, which is most likely what had happened by the time the boy presented. the strike didnt kill her son. cancer did!!! so even if doctors were not on strike, that young man would still have passed on. the surgery if it had been performed wouldnt have cured him. |
ocelot2006: So it's my family now? 'guess you lack proper home training (bad parentsocelot na wa for you o! calm down a beg. some responses don't need a reply from you |
bonnybonco: They created terrorism to destroy Africa, to sell their arms to both terrorist and African govts, it seems its not working fast for them, they sent CIA agent Patrick Sawyer to kill Nigerians with ebola. I know they have more devastating plans for Nig. and Africa but God will disappoint them. Ever since Nig. was named the no 1 economy in Africa and prospective world leader in future, all these attack have been on the increase.I agree with you! even the foreign made cars we drive have been programmed to kill us one day. the HIV drugs they gave us if you check well actually worsens it. the TV sets they gave us are for brain washing our kids. america is very wicked. God forbid! bonnybonco,I wish more Nigerians can reason like you. . |
vibrio: It still amazes me that in this 21st century that someone regards resident doctors as "student" doctors.they forget that first and foremost, the resident doctor is already A DOCTOR. he has the basic MBBS that they have not even been able to match. residency is a SPECIALIST postgraduate training with a research component. they are specializing in a field of medicine but they are already doctors so why shouldn't they be paid? what does one not read on naira land these days. its like asking that lecturers who are in the process of getting a PhD should not be paid while they offer lecturing services in the process. this country is a useless place.its only in Nigeria we call doctors doing a postgraduate program,'student' doctors. dear lord! |
