mgbadadike: Then ask yourself how many villages made up of one community?
Some communities are made up of at least 20 villages.
Inside those 20 villages, what are the number of adults that are above 70 years old?
Also bear in mind that what might ends up reaching each communities won't be up 200 bags they've told you on the media.
At the end of the day, each individual in the community will be getting 3 to 4 cups. Leave these theories. Any one from Anambra knows 200 bags per community is OK at least for 90% of the communities. Give him kudos when its due |

eyinjuege: Get one thing right. The US govt is in need. Europe is in need. Nigeria is not in need for ventilators to specifically combat corona FOR NOW. The FG hasn't come out anywhere to say they're planning to purchase ventilators in mass proportions, but Innoson has offered to produce them without been asked. Is he planning to dash Nigerian hospitals or what?
Let him tell Nigerians the bottleneck he is facing from doing so, so it can be addressed properly. He cannot expect orders when there's no demand. If he foresees a demand, and wants to meet it then do so appropriately and not on social media. It will make people more weary to do any business with him. ( We generally need more hospitals, specialists centres, beds, VENTILATORS, professionals/manpower etc as part of revamping the health systems in Nigeria) . I'm sure mass testing kits may be even more appropriate at this stage for Nigeria. If you refer to the modified ventilators begging twit by same Admad you will see where he stated that govt wants to buy ventilators but could not find where to buy. |

He knows you his kinsmen will as usual help him to guilt-trip the govt and no need to approach the money banks with a bankable proposal First of all apologise for your lies because it's a fat lie. Secondly when a producer asks for an LPO or mobilisation fee it does not mean they are broke, it's the right thing to do. Government can not have a need and not ready to spend. Other countries go the extra mile of funding R and D and when they become rich you start to envy them. No business man will fund this emergency supply without a firm order. eyinjuege: Then let Innoson make the right registration and application to produce ventilators, via the appropriate channels and not on social media. Such discussions or registrations are never made on social media. I don't know what exactly you expect from the Federal government tbh. Do you want them to boycott their normal procedure because Innoson says so, or what exactly is the problem here? How has the government been unsupportive towards him? What bottlenecks has he experienced so far in setting up his ventilator manufacturing plant? Some people have said the govt has refused to give him 4billion starter money, but the government is not obliged to do so, and rightly so. You have said its because they've refused to grant him a NNRA licence, but has he even applied for one? Since all transactions are done on social media now, can he ever so kindly show us his application?, and the rejection letter that has been sent to him from the government. You are maki g it sound like Innoson wants to go into the business of ventilators production so should do all the work but no. There is enough market incentive for Innoson or any manufacturer interested in producing ventilators
Dangote has been capitalizing on that environment. No Nigeria govt gives Dangote a dime except allowing him to source his FX at govt rate with funds source from Nigeria commercial banks and foreign banks
Innoson got into this mess because no Nigeria bank will commit funds into any of his project again knowing what transpired between him and one of the most reputable banks in Nigeria GTBank.
His credit rating with Nigeria banks is very low Innoson in a mess? You must be a comedian. Nigeria is the one in a mess not a company still moving on with its regular business. Isn't GM partnering with Ventec while Ford is working with GE Healthcare to accelerate ventilator production in the US?
GM and Ford are to provide support to existing ventilator manufacturing companies. Is not like they are producing their own ventilators.

It's not a new invention or intervention so there are companies who make medical equipments even without their government's support, already in existence The only gamechanger of recent is the corona/increased demand in those countries requesting for more ventilators. The regular companies who produce them cannot produce more than a certain number, hence the presidential orders requesting certain automobile companies to start production, despite their reluctance. I'm not sure why you see hatred for Innoson. If he wants to go into production, nothing stops him. He can raise the money to do so, unless he wants the government to bear the losses. It's either he waits till his help is needed or he can be proactive and source for funds for his ideas. Which bank will give him a loan for one-off production that demand can vanish in 2 months? Especially when there is no firm order from a buyer? Haven't you heard of govt guarantee or LPO? You need an LPO to get such short term funding, not newspaper publication. |

This is not tribalistic it is basic business. If not every company that assembles anything will ask the FG for 4bn to produce ventilators.
If he really can do it, he should produce a prototype and present to the FG. If it is rejected without concrete reasons only then can we begin to condemn them.
And he should act fast, because while he is waiting for the Govt, someone else is preparing a prototype What stops a serious govt in need of saving lives of its citizens from calling the company to ask of prototype? That shows commitment not when a govt is indifferent. |

PS; I'm igbo before you start with tribal slurs! I don't do tribal stuff, I do common sense. If Innoson as a serious business entity can not produce common respirators without N4 billion FG loan, then the company should just go ahead and pack up, now I see why after so many years, Innoson is still totally depended on government patronage for survival instead of the general consumer market. Yes he should be more forward looking and diversify. Now how about your govt, shouldn't the govt be forward looking too to have hone grown industry rather than beg? seunmsg: According to Innoson, it will take about 3 months to produce the ventilators even if FG gives him N4b. So, why should FG give him such a huge amount of money when there’s a possibility that nobody will need the ventilators in the next three months?
If no serious businessman will commit money to such an investment, why should FG be blackmailed into committing huge funds to such an adventure? Nobody is blackmailing the govt, we are only shocked at their thoughtlessness being backed by sentimental folks. Even if it takes him 3months as you said, is there no advantage in producing these things at home and equipping our healthcare? Is it a crime to have better equipment for other treatments? Your question is like asking, We ordered for military aircraft to fight Bokoharam and it will be delivered next year, what if we defeat BokoHaram next month will the aircraft become useless? People in govt should think long term not always about South vs North. |
Politics › Re: Bashir Ahmad's Response To Innoson On Ventilator Offer by PHIPEX(op): 11:20pm On Apr 03, 2020 |
seunmsg: There is a global demand for ventilators at the moment, he doesn’t even need to sell to Nigeria. Countries all over the world would rush him if he can deliver.
But truth be told, Innoson cannot produce any ventilators anytime soon even if FG gives him N4b. It will take him nothing less than 3-6 months to come up with anything close to a ventilator. Trump had to activate the defense production act to force GM to start producing ventilators. Even at that, GM has made it clear it can only deliver about 4,000 ventilators by April ending even though Trump is requesting 40,000. That’s to tell you how complicated the process of producing ventilators is.
I saw a BBC clip this morning where a reporter was lamenting that a consortium of Mercedes and Mclaren could only produce 30 ventilators. Innoson is nowhere near all these companies in terms of anything. Again, Innoson imports 95% of his parts from China. All he does in Nigeria is assemble. No serious businessman makes such huge investment for a demand that could be over in less than 4 months except the company wants to go into such production for a long term which is not the case we are having. You dont build refinery because NUPENG is on strike and fuel is scarce, that's what you are asking Innoson to do. The demand for ventilators has a very short span and very unpredictable, only a guaranteed order can make any serious company make such a huge investment in it. That also explains why it's still scarce otherwise every Tom Dick and harry will divert to it in other countries. GM can now produce because Trump has given an order. Why haven't Toyota and Honda started? It's simply because they haven't gotten a concrete order and Japan is not in dire need of it like Nigerian. |
