Now we understand better. Thanks fornthe rejoinder bro. The person went a bit far.
The priest was racist, short and simple. The “stress” as mentioned by his defender (ubenedictus) brought out the latent racism in him. Which kind dirty stress will make him refer to the deceased (a life long member of the Church’) as a “thing” and throw the corpse and family out without performing the last rites?? Do you know what the last rites mean to the family? It is her final transition into the next life (hopefully heaven) and the priest of all people, the supposed spiritual counselor profaned the whole event He threw them out and called the cops? He is a CALLOUS LOW DOWN RACIST!!! who has no respect for the dead.Suspension is definitely not enough, he should be fired. And yes, he should shove his half assed apology. |
rayobaba:Which people? Bose’s people? |
Nina pulled it off very, nicely. I actually prefer the fact that she has on the white tank top. It sets everything off very nicely. The only No is her shoes. You can’t pair a”busy” outfit with “busy” shoes. She should have gone with a more simple footwear. |
@Dremca. This just crossed my mind. Aku also means wealth. You know how people say “Aku na Uba”, right? It literally means Wealth and Plenty. So take your pick. #Udo |
danjumakolo:Intellectual. Sadism. Thank me later. |

Butterflyleo:More drivel!! |
Butterflyleo:Drivel!!! Didn’t read! |
Butterflyleo:Well you need to get off your low horse and grow some self esteem. Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans etc all propagate their culture with pride. All over the U.S. there are Chinatowns, Koreatowns etc. These towns grew because of the pride this people took in their culture and their desire to propagate said culture. And trust Americans and more than willing to learn such culture as long as you believe in self. Unfortunately, some of you are too beggarly to propagate anything. Always trying to fit in. Bunch of lemmings! |
Butterflyleo:I live in the U.S. I buy it all the time. I call it Okro and they totally understand what I am asking for. Wake with your “archaic” talk. Ain’t nobody got time for that. BTW, this is a Nigerian forum. Nigerians always trying to be more British than the British ![]() |
Butterflyleo:The original name is Okro. The eating of Okro was a tradition taken by enslaved Africans across the Atlantic to North America, South America and the Carribean. Because of the passage of time, loss of language etc. it came to be mispronounced as Okra. I say stick with the original especially as a Nigerian who knows better. The English name of the vegetable is Lady Finger. Otherwise stick with the original pronunciation (Okro) and not a mispronunciation which arose as a result of time and circumstance |
Dremca, you can also consider Ikere. I have met someone with that last name |
Dremca:Ke = Create Kere = Created Ike = To create. It can also mean strength. The “I” is pronounced like an English “E”. Hence the name Ikenna is pronounced Ekenna. Same thing applies with Ike (To create). Now when a word starts with an “E” in Igbo language, the “E” pronunciation is a little different from the English “E” pronunciation. I would say that the closest sound to it would be “eh”. Hence Eke would be pronounced as “Ehke”. Now mind you, I am not in favor of adding consonants where they shouldn’t be. I advocate people learning the Igbo alphabet/pronunciation. Adding h at the end of a name is just a needless, adulteration. Creation = Okike. |
Dremca:Wealth/Abundance = Uba Chinwuba is my friends last name. It means God is the owner/giver of wealth. Amara = Grace/Favor. Amarachi = God’s grace/favor. There is nothing wrong with the names Nweke, Noriega, Nwafo or Nwankwo. In Ghana most boys are named after the day of the week they were born e.g Kofi, Kodak, Kwadjo, Kweku. Even their women are named. similarly. Nweke just means a child born on Eke which is a day of the week in Igbo. You have to stop living under this cloud of fear and suspicion of everything pertaining to your culture and the way of your ancestors. You did not spring out of the earth full grown. You are great and special because they were great and special people. I posted a number of times on your other thread. All the so call English days of the week were named after one European god or the other. Thursday is after Thor. Saturday is named after the god Saturn. Same thing with all the other days after the week. I am sure you describe the days of the week using this system, right? After these words pass your lips, are u left feeling like a heathen? Some Nigerians even name their children Monday, Sunday etc. and I bet you won’t find anything wrong with it. So why this hullabaloo about Nweke? Focus on what the name literally means, instead of all these contusions about some god, snake etc. To sum it up, you can choose Eke if you want, maybe Uba or any of the other translations I offered. I however strongly advise against putting a “h” at the end of the name. Putting h at the end of Dike, Eke, Uba etc is stupid in my opinion. Igbo names do not end with a consonant. Putting a consonant renders everything meaningless. All the different permutations of the words carry a high or low tone. H can never be used to denote a high or low tone. If so, I might as well tell you that Ekeh means snake. Please stop splitting hairs, okay. Trying to run away from your shadow is an exercise is futility and will only lead to ruin. |
delishpot:You don tok am finish. So many gullible people who lack critical thinking skills. Iti kom kom’s full everywia |
maxiuc:Okro soup/ Ofe Okro |
Mujtahida:Okay. So since we created it, each and everyone of us is responsible for undoing the mess. Everyone of us must resolve to be honest in the small things and by so doing, change the prevailing culture. After all, little drops of watch make an ocean. Also a person who can’t be faithful in the little things, cannot be faithful in big things. E.g. the Politicians did not just become thieves when they were sworn into office. Politicians are chosen from the polity. The more honest the polity is (generally) the greater the chances that we will actually get an honest politician. |
Mujtahida:No we are not. We are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You were making excuses that Nigeria makes people dishonest. My point is that Nigeria is the way it is because people are dishonest. Kpom kwem. |
LucifersLight:Did Sowore not tirelessly campaign for APC/Buhari Bia Saharareporters? What changed? The fact that he is vying for the Presidency? There is no honor among thieves. |
Mujtahida:Nigeria is not some abstract thing. Nigerians are Nigeria. Nigerian’s made Nigeria the way it is. Until Nigerians take accountability and resolve on average to be honest, Nigeria will remain the way it is. |
makydebbie:Maybe. My impression (of a shadowy) is that of a white girl shot in a shadowy background. Aside from the face the only part of the picture that shows a little skin (a shade or two darker than her face) is her hand? Or is that her hand or gloves that she has on? Is that hair flowing out from underneath her cape or is it decorative fur? Most little African girls (not referring to women) do not wear their hair in that flowing style. Based on all these, my first impression was not of a little black girl. Anyway, more importantly, congrats on your book. |
makydebbie:Is your novel about a white girl? If not, why is your cover art of a white girl? Why is the picture so reminiscent of little red riding hood? If your book is about a little Ghanian or African girl, go ahead and give that the appropriate representation on your book cover. The world is awash, as is, with the opposite. |
Phyde:You are correct. The woman did not run into anything. The truck is basically on the culvert/sidewalk. The driver was negligent. |
Follygunners:Ignorance of the highest order. Okro is an Igbo word and Okro soup is 100% an Igbo soup. It was and is still so popular amongst the Igbo’s that the slaves took it across the Atlantic to the America’s. People in the Southern United States use it in their gumbo and they call it Okra which is a mispronunciation of/and comes for the word Okro. The English word for Okro is Lady Fingers. Next time stick to your Ila asepe or whatever you call that your slimy puke worthy soup. Okro is and will forever be ours. |
VIPERVENOM:And you will be tossed in the High Security Prison and not the half way house you see there. OP is somewhat misleading. A Half Way House is exactly that: A person goes to a Halfway house after they have served their prison sentence but prior to their complete release, into the open population. Its almost like being on probation or parole. |
princfred:Funny thing is that in the 14th Century, the Europe you talked about was in the dark ages. Marco Polo traveled to the court of the Chinese King and he was blown away by all he saw there. He stayed there studying and learning for 2 years. Gun powder was manufactured in China and it was with the help of guns and gunpowder that they could colonize the world and put people in slavery. Trousers originated from Genghis Khan and the Tibetan steepes. In present day the average person thinks trousers is a Western invention but it’s not |
princfred:Will you sharrapp there! Nincompoop! Who gives a rats arse about your rinky dink fantasy |
princfred:Capt save a white to the rescue. Capping for them all over this thread like the good and faithful servant are. Nope Greiboy did not agree with you on that stance. You are all alone buddy. He stood with me. Half knowledge is very deadly! |
Oyindidi:You know before I thought it was young girls that used to fantasize, always dreaming about Prince Charming, and with their heads in the clouds. Having read NL, I have come to realize that some of the men on here have live in a fantastical dream world |
princfred:What you wrote up there is drivel. My point was very clear. The Asians forced a technological transfer, they copied, stole trade secrets and did whatever they needed to do. But essential to this was a belief in themselves. They did not follow meekly. Oh no, no, no. People with your inferior mindset do not even feel confident enough to copy and replicate. You feel your white masters have two heads thus you actively seek to challenge any of your brothers who question and seek to change the status quo. Unfortunately the current leaders of Nigeria have this same mentality as yours. When they go to the negotiating table, they go with cap in hand, like beggars and get raped over and over again. Whole thing reeks of inferiority complex that is why till today you see vestiges of neocolonialism. All I have to say is if you are not part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem |
Favor99:Yes the Genocide in Congo. You hardly hear a pip about that yet the Leopold “Hitler” of a war criminal is treated like a hero in his home country, while his atrocities are swept under the carpet. What about the atrocities of Sir Rhodes, yet we have the Rhodes scholarship commemorating such a criminal. What about the genocide in Namibia by the Germans where the killed off huge swathes of the Khoisan and other native people. These are all pretty recent history. Well hidden and barely acknowledged though |
princfred:You see this is where you made your biggest mistake. Please read to comprehend. Nobody on this thread has made the argument that blacks are fine where they are and don’t have a need to prosper economically. All that has been said on this thread is to believe. If you can’t conceive something, then you definitely cannot achieve it. The Aba people you mention believe in themselves and are hard working and innovative. They are also seeking to improve every day. The people you should be focused on are the Nigerians who dismiss their products as “Aba made” and automatically assume the products are the lowest of the low just because they are made by their country men. Some even prefer to spend forex to buy inferior foreign goods. I can tell you that although China is the manufacturing hub of the world, they ship different quality products to different countries and the stuff they send to Nigeria is pure garbage. Some of the product made in Aba are definitely better than that garbage. YES, I said it!! |
