oohunt: Can I carry my garri, crayfish, stock fish, egusi, and the likes into Canada?? Are we given the opportunity to declare these items?
I have watched Border Control about Australia and have no idea what to expect with Canada. All these items I brought in when I came in 2015 thou as a student, but my husband brought same in December. Always declare them, I know they have issues with milk for some strange reason but people getaway with it . If coming to Toronto you can get this item very easy from iru to potash to yam |

oohunt: Let me attempt to get our discussions back on track by initiating a few things to talk about.
I am once again thrown by someone that reminded me yesterday how cold it is in Canada. How you have to shovel your way out of your house.
Guys, how did you cope? Did you have to fall sick a couple of times before adjusting? I know oyibo would not give you antibiotics and the like when you catch the cold or flu. How did you cope? Did you have to get Benyln from Nija??
What about the kids? My kids do not even sleep under AC so this will be a huge adjustment for them. As for my husband, he never gets cold in a cold country so he will adjust just fine.
I know someone has said the trick is to cover up on layers, but having lived in the U.K., even after covering up, you will still be cold. At least your nose will...lol.
I understand that one gets used to it after a while but I want to know how you went through it.
Coping mechanisms in extreme cold environment. Please share. Well the main coping mechanisms are staying in doors and layers.always buy good jacket and boots E.g there was Extreme cold weather alert in Toronto over the weekend, I wore three layers of trouser and four of top, then my jacket. On Friday just from bus stop to my house I felt my hand freezing despite wearing gloves. But that's was just for Friday and early Saturday You will get use to the cold, but some days is just too much. If you drive it might be better for you as oppose taking transit in which you have to wait for the bus. You can always get benylin equivalent from shoppers or other drug stores here and most migrant kids I know adjust fine. My friend son loves the snow, it usually a fight btw him and his mum when it snows as he wants to go out and play inside. |

esosa4real: BTW, Someone was advising my fiancé for a 19months nursing program in Ontario. I was wondering the kind of crash course it could be that will enable her to earning immediately upon completion. Do you know anything about that or similar diplomas in other provinces. She is a Medlab tech in Nigeria and is ready to switch to nursing.
Is the LPN the same as it is in the states? There is a diploma program in nursing for 2years (approx 4semester) where you qualify as a Registered practical nurse (RPN) in Ontario or licensed practical nurse LPN in other province. After this you can transfer to a university and do 2 more years to become a Registered Nurse (RN) But there is a fast track nursing program straight to RN (2 years) for people who already have a first degree in York university Toronto |

SlowlybtSurely: OP, thanks alot for creating this thread. Very informative. I'm also awaiting my PR visa.
Looks like most of you are in Alberta. Anyone in Ottawa or Montreal? I'm looking for a city with low standard of living but with a good University where I can obtain a 2-year Nursing degree (after first degree) and has high employment rate for people in the finance sector as hubby will be ACCA certified by the time we will be moving.
Also which province has very subsidised day cares cos we have a toddler.
Which province can I get student loan without having to live there for a long time? I want to start school immediately after landing so I would have to do the processing from Naija. Is this possible?
Is it feasible for one person to work and keep the family afloat while the other goes to school (full time)? Keep in mind that we have two kids with only one being of school age.
Is anyone amongst you doing this Nursing-after-first-degree program or know someone who is? I've some very pressing questions I would love answered.
Justwise please, let's limit this thread to life in Canada for immigrants. Any questions or enquiries not in-line with the subject should be hidden. I don't have PR yet , but I am on study permit. My friend husband is doing nursing after first degree ( med lab). He is doing the 2 years RN program at York university Toronto ( will be done by August) and he got OSAP(Ontario student Assistant program) for the program. I know he did some psychology periquisite at Trent or online. What information do you need exactly I can help ask. |

winter: Hello all,
Please I don't know why my EE profile keeps stating "update not submitted" after I made changes to my profile. Normally, it updates after 24 hours and I also get an e-mail notification to that effect.
The last change I made was last week Friday and I still have that message. Can someone please assist or explain what the problem might be? Thanks. Did you sign after the changes you made, when you input the changes click on continue instead of save and exit, it will give you where to input your name (declaration) which is the signature. |

Garykasparov: Hi Pinkygrace, I am saddened by this your results/efforts which has proven futile, and i can imagine the frustration. However, i will advice your stick with IELTS, as well as rewrite your IELTS(because your Celpip writing band did not change, perhaps your WRITING needs improvement actually, Also, there is room to improve other areas of your IELTS to a CLB 10).
If you can take the pain to writing an essay and send or snap to me, i will volunteer to review it for you and show you some area of deficiency which requires improvement. You can also visit my topic on this forum.
IELTS is easy, but technically demanding to excel. Yeah, am thinking of writing Ilets again , since that was my first attempt at it, will practice more of the writing. I sure will take up your offer, I think my major issue is CONTENT development, becos I go blank most of the time and just mubble stuffs up. |

@vcole @dupsyshoo and everyone who replied me, I have already remarked my Celpip writing and the band did not change from 8, for Ilets it will cost me 165cad to remark, am thinking of just rewriting either of the exams which cost 300cad |

youseuph: Gurus in the house , now that i have made up my mind to write ielts because my success towards ITA solely depend on it as other factors are taken care of, your support and guidance is highly welcomed. 1) How do i get adequate materials or do i need an agent (2) Is it possible to have a score of 8 across all sections ? You can do this yourself, you don't need any agent, check YouTube for listening examples, iletsbuddy, ilets Liz, and the ilets Nairaland thread for information. |

vcole: How long did it take you to evaluate your b pharm with pebc? With your wife as PA, ECA for b pharm and 8,7,7,7 from both of you for ielts, your crs would be about 472 just as pinky advised earlier. The other option is for you to evaluate her msc alone, claim points for that as well as her ielts with you as PA. Your crs would be 457. The first option is obviously the better choice. How long depends on how soon you get all your documents sent to them, see a recent timeline for a friend. Document sent July 30 Document recieved acknowledgement August 30 ECA report November 23 |

youseuph: Whao! You have really made my day. Will do exactly that. My wife is 27, with 3yrs experience and has an Msc degree in pharmaceutics. We will try and prepare for ielts and get her docs evaluated. If her experience is as a Rxcist then evaluate only her B.pharm with PEBC, that gives same point as MSC, and you both should aim for a score of at least 8777 in LRSW in your ilets and you should be able to hit 470points and with that U can get an ITA. |

youseuph: Thanks Pinkygrace. I have 5yrs working experience, have not writen ielts, wife is a pharmacist with B.pharm, she has not written ielts as well. As for the EE, I am still on it. I hope to write the July exam in London. Have you tried using the Crs calculator to see your points, am assuming your wife is younger she might be a better principal applicant, why not gave her document evaluated, and both of you sit for Ilets ASAP. if she is not above 30 yet with 3 years experience I would advice you hold on for the EE and put effort in getting ilets done with good scores. |
