Muller's decline is one thing I can't quite wrap my head around.
It is shocking.

Most people say a major reason for Muller's decline in form was the change in positioning and playing role.

Under Ancelotti, He was played out wide on the right where he is least effective. The man lacks pace but to be fair to him he can run. He certainly can't dribble and beat his man. His crossing is average but mehn his football IQ is off the charts. Muller is better utilized as CAM or as a second striker. His ability to find space is second to none. It's no surprise he has looked something close to his best since he has taken up a more central role
under Kovac.


But I've a slightly different opinion though. I feel as the ultimate raumdeuter, his starting position on the pitch shouldn't matter. He will always find space. I think it's a confidence issue. He had a terrible Euro 2016, and the form spilled over to the following season and then he was out of favor with Ancelotti. It took the return of Don Jupp to salvage his career. He is better these days but again like Alaba, e no be like before

It has gotten to a point where my constant visits to this thread has left me slightly damaged intellectually . I'm talking about the Hazard debate that has refused to die down after all these years. I think I might now be susceptible to a subtle form of indoctrination and brainwashing from none other than raumdeuter. My stance on this issue has always be the same : Hazard is a genuinely world class player. Who only needs to be more ruthless and clinical to reach the very top.

But sometimes when I come on this thread to read, the mental gymnastics and logic manipulation performed by a certain person leaves a flicker of doubt in my mind. "What if he is right, and Hazard is just grossly overrated". I find myself unbelievably questioning Hazard undoubted quality. But it only lasts for s few seconds. I shake my head vigorously, muttering " Get behind me, I will not be deceived!".

All I'm trying to say is with the constant exposure to half-truths and lies here, we are all in danger of losing everything majority of us believe is true and sacred. Our football knowledge being is being distorted daily. Alternative history is being spun. The army of disinformation is growing. The man is building a movement. Notable followers include Neymar1095, lordfalcao The temptation to believe is strong but we must not fall. Not quite the reboot everyone expected from Die Mannschaft after the World Cup. Still the same old faces but a few tweaks were evident. That all 4-CB backline made a return and then we now have a new 6.

Firstly, i must say i've been really impressed with Hummels in recent games. He was imperious against France and could have even gotten on the scoresheet. Looks like he is getting back to his best after that terrible slump in form. He also seemed to have been working on his headers from set pieces. No goal yet but at least he is getting them on target. It will be interesting to see who gets to start between him and Boateng alongside Sule, who allegedly is the first choice CB under Kovac.

And the biggest change for Germany. JK finally taking his place as Schweini's true heir. And man did he boss that midfield. I'm happy he's finally gotten a chance to play in his actual position but the lack of quality at RB was so glaring. Ginter was solid against France but offered nothing close to half of the offense JK brings on that side. It's like 2014 Lahm all over again. In as much as I'm a big fan of his versatility, I would like for him to grow and master a particular position. Not being shuffled across the pitch. I don't want another situation like Alaba who spent so much time playing different roles for club and country and probably got confused and ended up losing on both sides. No longer a world-class full back and now an average midfielder. But i trust JK not to disappoint. The boy has got it locked down.

Bro, in as much as I love Trippier - he is actually my next favorite fullback after JK - i've got to admit Walker is the better player. I used to have the same opinion on Walker as you do but the man has taken his game to another level under Pep.

His transformation though subtle has been fantastic. He is much less impulsive or eager to impress. You rarely see him make those lung-bursting sprints or put in as many crosses as before. He is much more measured in his approach these days. More cerebral. He has also grown more comfortable playing on the inside and even adapted to a new role playing in a back 3.

I remember watching an England pre world cup friendly against Holland earlier this year, and I could swear I saw Walker playing as a deep-lying playmaker pinging diagonal balls. He is the second best defender in the EPL in my opinion, after Azpilicueta of course.

But I do agree Trippier has more technique and is a better crosser of the ball. You want the modern day fullback Trippier is your man but if you want the all-round package then call on Walker.

Atletico Madrid vs Monaco.

Inter Milan vs Barcelona

Barcelona will get the chance to exact revenge for a semifinal loss when they take on Inter. In the 2009/10 season, the Spanish giants looking to overturn a 3-1 first leg deficit against the Nerrazurri, then coached by Jose Mourinho were knocked out by the Italian side who put up the best 'bus-parking' performance of all time and qualified for the final where they eventually emerged champions.
