My first contact with nairaland, I thought I was in a forbidden jungle/war front.I even wrote something like this.. Its just the unfortunate situation we found ourselves in,the effects of the mistakes and wrongdoings of our fathers and leaders It is the legacy of bad leadership that makes people think that they have to hate or despise other tribes for the sake of their survival. Reality says the opposite. We have to stand together and defend each other in order to survive. Obviously many feel different. |

For your information, even the last car used by the late rev was given to him by his elder brother And for the records church is not business, and yes they have financial obligations and some do run into deficit. Please before your post again, just google the name and know his family Irrespective of that, when did business obligations take primacy over the well-being, comfort and emotional stability of the immediate mourning widow ? They have shown that they are more interested in the Goose that lays the golden eggs, than their brother's widow whom they probably consider a liability and hindrance for their ambitions. The scenario being enacted here is not new here in Nigeria. We see it all the time. So, no amount of whitewashing can change this brazen act of brigandage for what it is. |

The legislators earn N30m per month, 1666 times what the average worker earns. Meanwhile, they pad the budget by tens and hundreds of billions. The police and customs continue their extortion rackets unabashed and unabated. Area boys continue to extort about half a trillion Naira a yearfrom Lagos alone. We continue to run a dual foreign exchange system for the very simple fact that Nigerian banks are too corrupt to sell fx directly to the public. Yet, the government is clowning us, the victim masses, that change starts with us, our hungry tummies,.. a cunning way of shifting guilt and responsibility back to us. What a country. |

The pouring of libations of wine is a symbolic gesture of thanks giving to the Nature gods who are assumed to have made it possible for the palm tree to naturally ferment sweet, healthy wine, and for grapes from which other forms of alcohol are derived. Very Interesting indeed. There is not one scenario or notion that I have not contemplated at one time or another. And there isn't any notion that I would fundamentally disagree with. The notion that the Earth is a zoological lab for a much higher species is the one I find most probable, due some uncanny personal experiences I have had. My notion that consciousness is nothing Devine, but simply the agglomeration of interactive information is also supported. The implications for morality are non- existent. Morality, as we have debated often here on NL, is an evolving characteristic of a conscious and self aware mind. Our moral thresholds will continue evolve, as long as we in this bubble, irrespective of whether it's real or a simulation. The implications on the existence of god is self-evident. If we are the products of a simulation or a lab experiment, then obviously who ever is pulling the strings wins the almighty God award. Abi? If we are bits of energy and information, then obviously the cessation of biological life would simply be just another form of energy transformation. So, while the biological shell disintegrates into it's various elementary components, the vital energy remains, but simply transfers. |

wirinet: From my teens to my 30's I also read lots of spiritual books based on eastern philosophies and religions. I bought, read and digested all Lobsang Rampa's seventeen ( or is it eighteen) books. I even read the one he said was written by his cat. I read 2 of Carlos castaneda's books. I practiced astral travelling, meditations, aura reading, psychometry, etc. These " spiritual" activities took so much of my time and energies that my academics began to suffer. At the end of the day, I achieved what the easterners would call "enlightenment" by asking just one question; What is the purpose of all these? I then came to the realization that the purpose of life first of all is survival, then survive to add your energy ( maybe genes, ideas, organic materials, etc) back into the universe, for the universe to continue on its evolutionary journey. I then refocused my life to graduating with good grades, getting a job or starting a business, finding a beautiful woman with whom I can pass my genes, providing for and raising my children with good values that will ensure their survival and helping others as much as I can. I believe I am doing a good job of those goals.
I later learnt that all those spiritual gurus were fake, just like past religious masters. Even thought I now know that losang Rampa was fake, his philosophies still shaped my life. You can read about the fakery of Carlos Castaneda here - http://www.salon.com/2007/04/12/castaneda/ He even started a cult whereby young vulnerable women cut themselves completely from the world and submit themselves to him. 4 of them is speculated to have committed suicide on hearing of his death.
You seem very confused, I do not know how you can marry the Christian philosophy with the teachings and voodism of Carlos Castaneda. The two are diametrically opposite. How would you use your bible to justify using lizards to see who stole something or shifting your form into a cat?
Life is short and resources are limited, use your time and resources to improve yourself and achieve great things instead of wasting them on spiritual highs ( spiritual activities seems to stimulate centres of the brain that makes people have a feeling of euphoria, just like psychotic drugs) Simply amazing. It seems the minds of most atheists evolve in pretty much the same way. Like you, I gobbled up all of Lopsang Rampa's books, and pretty much any esoteric literature I could get my hands on. I do admit that I learned quite a bit, as no knowledge is a waste. And like you, I reached a point where I asked " So what, what is all this about at the end of the day's ? As a species, survival comes first, after that the most you csn do is add whatever you can to the dynamic process of evolution. I look back and I realize that the men , whom anyone hardly remembers, who researched and found a cure for leprosy did a million times more for humanity than the gurus, spiritual masters, the chosen prophets, the Jesuses, the Mohammeds, the Buddhas all combined since the advent humans on Earth. Louise Pasteur did more for humanity that all Gods combined. Your post has just inspired me with a new thread on these spiritual mumbo jumbos. |

The Sun created life , sustains , regulates and manipulates all aspects of life and our individual lives on Earth, including, your mood, your proclivities, your temperament, fertility, wars, the rise and fall of civilizations. If their is a celestial body that deserves our awe, praise and worship, it is the Sun. No wonder, Sun worship is oldest and only one true religion on Earth. Infact, every religious belief on Earth is underpinned by Our Glorious Orb, the begetter of life and the great faithful Redeemer.
