DaLover: Guy look, we are saying don't bring deltans into a superficial fight, we have had authentic fights in which we have not asked the SW to be wholly involved...the fight against corruption has seen Alams in prison, Ibori in prison and more will follow suit,,, but guess what, it will not change anything...why would I be stupid enuf to embark on protest that will not achieve anything...The truth must prevail. Keep up the good work. You are on point sir. |

kettykin: even if the get beyond what happened, they should not at least repeat the same mistake by intervening in a matter that has nothing to do with them. Nzeogwus should hold their peace even if nigeria is on fire or ablazeI agree with you. Let Danjuma don his army uniform, march on to the Boko Bastard leader or the Fulani herdsmen leader (whichever he considers more dangerous) and riddle his body with bullets as he did Ironsi and Fajuyi. That will make him an instant hero. Talk, Danjuma, is very cheap. |
In 1966 Captain Danjuma was involved in a counter-coup with the 4th Battalion in Mokola, Ibadan. On July 29, 1966, Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi spent the night at the Government House Ibadan as part of a nation-wide tour. His host, Lieutenant Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, Military Governor of Western Nigeria, alerted him to a possible mutiny within the army. Aguiyi-Ironsi desperately tried to contact his Army Chief of Staff, Yakubu Gowon, but he was unreachable. In the early hours of the morning, the Government House Ibadan was surrounded by soldiers led by Theophilus Danjuma. Danjuma arrested Aguiyi-Ironsi and questioned him about his alleged complicity in the coup which saw the demise of the Sardauna of Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello. Although some have argued that Fajuyi was not a target in this counter-coup, Danjuma, Walbe and others have gone on record to say that they probably wanted him "for questioning" as much as they did his boss, Aguiyi-Ironsi. Fajuyi was seen as a so-called progressive, who had supported the Nzeogwu coup in January of that year. The bullet-riddled bodies of Aguiyi-Ironsi and Fajuyi were later found in a nearby forest, and Yakubu Gowon became the new military head of state.- Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theophilus_Danjuma |
freegaza: Whatz d difference btw boko haram and nigerian soldierz? How are they the same? |
“Finally, the government has now resorted to arresting our wives and children and also demolishing our houses, like they did in Biu recently, that is why we have also resolved to start attacking government schools, especially, tertiary ones.- Boko Haram http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-threatens-to-attack-punch-six-south-based-newspapers/ The practice of demolishing houses linked to terror attackes was successfully used by the Israeli to curtail terror attacks by the Palestine numerous terror groups. In Nigeria where cost of building is very high; demolishing houses whose owners collaborated with terrorists who attack and kill innocent citizen will help persuade other house owners to monitor and report terror related activities in the houses, or risk loosing their house. If the security agencies are 'deliberately' using the policy, I believe they are hitting the terrorist where it will definitely hurt them and their collaborators. It may sound controversial, but you fire with fire! |
Ahj_harem, Why don't you leave the South East out of your idiocy of a rant. Did SE stop anyone from protesting? Are there not SS/SE'ers in Lagos who will probable join any protest no matter how silly or otherwise it will be? And what business of yours is it what happened or will happen to Niger Bridge? Who made you SE spokesman, let alone electing you to talk of matters beyond your comprehension? Why don't you worry about your strife ravaged Bornu state; and focus your attention on how the 400 almajiri school promised the Northern State will help radicalize or revolutionize (as applicable) their lives of your people? When are you going to focus on your state and local government? Are they not getting allocation from Abuja each time to go begging with their bowls? How has those money changed the situation of any of the core northern state? Are new school being built? Are they constructing new roads, hospitals? Is there any welfare scheme to attract students to schools in the North? Are these not of any interest to you? I mean why waste your energy worrying about what SE will say, have said, or not, rather than focusing same energy on poverty, disease, illiteracy, and now insecurity in the core north? You should be ashamed of yourself, and your Borno state. Anyway, if you want my opinion on the protest, I have given it. I will support it from the comfort of my room. The first time a group of Nigerians tried to changed they way things were done, they were accused of being 'Igbos' and seeking selfish interest. We know what followed next, the consequence which still haunt Nigeria to date, and which will perhaps lead her to the her early grave! Go ahead and have your subsidy scam protest. What SE will do or not should not be your concern. |
DaLover: Y would someone disguise his name if he is going to say the same thing? I can understand the Okada man not seeing the bigger picture, but I honestly expect someone with access to the internet to see this..(although most NLers are to put it mildly, very daft), if you understand the depth of my last post you will see that what I am asking for is a radical approach to the way we have decided to run our lives... now tell me the difference between the fraud in the oil subsidy and the drugs subsidy by delta state? where does one start from? Is it about fighting Maduake and GEJ or correcting the system...Tell me you want to protest for resource control, states paying taxes to FG, government sticking to its core responsibilities and I am with you...but if you tell me you want to go and fight for cheaper fuel or fight someone that dared to tell us the truth, sorry..Well said my brother. Some of these activists, and NL armchairs critics are just interested in one thing - fighting the symptom. For how long shall we continue in this line, and way of doing things? What was the result of the power probe shortly after Obj regime? Was Obj Presidential Library and source of Ota Farm sudden metamorphosis not probed? Where is the result? Where is the result of probes and counter-probes done over the years? Why must we continue in this fruitless path? Why must I see this one one differently? Someone should wake me up, when it is time for protest in support of Regionalism and true Fiscal Federalism, and a weaker central government. All this merry-go round trips by those who have missed police tear-gas has not and will not achieve anything. But like I said, I am willing to offer my support via TV, and send my condolence to the fallen mugus and magas in the next myopic protest. Wondering when the so-called 'intelligentsia' will actually start deploying their thoughts towards tackling subsidy corruption from the root - complete removal of fuel subsidy is a starting point. |
Orikinla: DEAR FELLOW NIGERIANS, DO NOT JOIN ANY MASS PROTESTS UNTIL SOYINKA'S CHILDREN AND BAKARE'S CHILDREN ARE IN FRONT WITH THE POOR MASSES MARCHING ON THE STREET AND IF THEY CANNOT GIVE YOU ANY LIFE INSURANCE, DON'T JOIN THEM. Should I say well said? ![]() |
OlowoTee: I'm sorry, but i was going to ask when do we prepare for mass protest over the d BokoHaramss ? Aren't they deadlier?I wonder o. Or when are we going to mass protest for regionalism, true fiscal federalism. All these protest about oil (subsidy or no subsidy). When are we going to stage a protest that all oil block illegally allocated to cronies be revoked. Anyway, people are free to protest against what affect them the most. Fuel subsidy corruption is not my biggest worry, I want fuel subsidy completely romoved! Let those affected fuel subsidy scam hit the road. I will support them via TV! |
If some of the posters are not doing so out of pure hatred or plain bigotry, they would agree that GEJ regime has been largely transparent in exposing some of these scam. Who will have any idea of the sleaze in the oil industry or pension scam if GEJ had simply ask for his cut and that of his lieutenants. By allowing various organs of government including the now loud-mouthed House of Reps free hand to do their jobs, Nigerians are now better informed. Presidents like Obj would have covered most of the sleaze, by sacrificing a few who have fallen out of his favour. I thank president GEJ for his unusual courage and wish him goodluck and he systematically confront the behemoths called corruption in this cesspit of a country. I hope to see the indicted prosecuted and punished. Beyond that I want to see oil blocks which were awarded to cronies of past regimes revoked! They are part of problems. |
Apt! |
begwong: ROCHAS OKOROCHA-PRESIDONot a bad idea! |
El Rufia will get Zero vote in the South East and South South Zone. Who wants a tribalist, and boko haram supporter for president - may Borno State! |
Ndi Igbo, I think we would do well to avoid falling for ndu_chucks bait. The clown asked what we (Igbos) have benefited in an Ijaw man's less than two years reign. Isn't it funny how he conveniently failed to tell us what we have benefited from 38 years regime of the clueless northern rulers. More importantly, what has Nigeria benefited from 38 years rule of the North. There is a rule which says 'Never go to a doctor in whose hospital flowers are dying or have died.' If the hospital cannot water a plan, don't expect any better. Core North has retrogressed to the extent that flowers (children) are left to rot away! Nigeria and indeed Igbo will be foolish to let them infect the rest of us with this disease. I'll rather we take our chances with the well meaning 'fisherman' from the creek than with the clueless, terror vendors from desert! |
Aliyu Insists on Equal Distribution of Oil Wealth 21 Apr 2012 Font Size: a / A By Chinedu Eze Countering the position of House of Assembly speakers from Niger Delta who recently demanded for the 50 per cent of the country’s oil revenue, the Governor of Niger State, Mu’uazu Babangida Aliyu yesterday insisted that oil revenue should be shared equally by every state of this country. Aliyu, who is also the chairman of Northern Governors Forum stated this in a speech he made at the award night organised by the Nigerian News Direct in Abuja on Thursday. “In the light of the changing realities in Nigeria and in the spirit of our common nationality, we probably need to consider the resources of the nation as a common patrimony for the common good of all citizens,” said the governor. Aliyu explained that in this way, the nation’s resources would “balance derivation’ with needs to guarantee continued socio-economic and political wellbeing of the nation, since the constitution does not restrict the citizens of a particular part of the country from settling in another part.” He said that in Niger State, the policy of free education, free healthcare for children, women and the aged introduced by his administration, including mass housing scheme are being enjoyed by all Nigerians that live in the state. https://serving.thisdaylive.com/0bef99d6-acf5-4e2c-9779-8fa02ba3fcd4/assets/2509F03.Babangida-Aliyu.jpg?maxwidth=400&maxheight=540 Governor of Niger State, Mu’uazu Babangida Aliyu http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/aliyu-insists-on-equal-distribution-of-oil-wealth/114202/ |

kodewrita: A practice deeply abused in nigeria where SSS agents flash their cards in beer parlours all over the country. I knew all the SSS dudes in my neighbourhood while growing up.That's another option. But the lack of Federal 'presence' is the will make such FG facility an instant attention grabber by journalist and other observers. Hiding the 'secret' facility in 'plain view', or far away from prying eyes is are option available to policy makers. And in my opinion both options are based on time tested principle. But I agree it is malicious to leak such information. And I wonder if it is not 'boko haram' agent it government that are responsible for the leak. |
HNosegbe: I would have thought that such a "secret detention centre" should be located as far away from civilization as possible. Afterall, it should be "secret", shouldn't it? I really can't envisage Lagos of all places fitting the bill.Security by obscurity; hiding something in plain view, is a widely use security practice. |
kaiter: Just keep your foolishness to Osun State and spare the rest of the country. |
Funkymallam: U are so intelligent and matured to go about insulting ppl cus they disagree with ur logic and calling them names even on an issue u dnt have first hand info about.I am surprise you are just noticing that everyone who disagrees with Gbawe especially on matter concerning ACN and some of their 'funny' governor is either a bigot, ethnic jingoistic, or anti-south west. I have given up on him long ago. |
@ topic Classic case of jealousy, driven by hate and inferiority complex. A big shame of the already useless media (Osun defender) anyway. I think they should rather focus on helping Aregbesola navigate the current crisis he is enmeshed in, not creating more trouble him, and the people of Osun state! Jungle journalism at its worst! |
S’South insists on fiscal federalism Tuesday, 17 April 2012 00:00 From Inemesit Akpan-Nsoh and Ayoyinka Olagoke, Uyo News - National GOVERNORS and members of the federal and state legislatures from the South-South geo-political zones have decried the total dependence of the 36 states of the federation on oil revenue from the region. They accused the other five geo-political zones in the country of deliberately refusing to exploit the huge deposits of mineral resources in their areas while milking the Niger Delta dry. At the end of a meeting yesterday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on the platform of the Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta (BRACED) states, the leaders hinged Nigeria’s path to sustainable development on the practice of fiscal federalism and resource control by the component parts of the country. In a statement they issued on the state of the nation, which was presented to journalists by the Chairman of the South-South Governor’s Forum, Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, the governors condemned the attempt by their northern colleagues to link insecurity in the country to the extant revenue sharing formula. The South-South leaders said the North’s call for a review of the current revenue formula was “unfortunate and misplaced.” Other governors who attended the meeting were Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru, Victor Ndoma-Egba for South-South members of the Senate, Leonard Ogor representing zone’s members in the House of Representatives, Larry Odey for South-South Speakers, and Ambassador Joe Keshi, the Director-General of BRACED Commission. The governors in the communiqué said rather than crying foul over the revenue sharing formula or 13 per cent derivation, the North and other Nigerians should join the clamour and insist on the introduction of fiscal federalism in the country. BRACED wondered why other geo-political zones were not keen on exploiting other mineral resources in their states. “The introduction of fiscal federalism and resource control will encourage each state of the federation to control its resources and develop in accordance with its capability. The nation and states should focus on agriculture which will allow all states to contribute significantly to the national purse rather than the current over-dependence on oil from the South-South,” the statement read in part. The forum, which ended in the early hours of yesterday, also resolved that the zone would form a united platform to present its demands with one voice at the forthcoming amendment of the constitution by the National Assembly. On the security situation and the continuous violence in some parts of the country, the governors lauded the Federal Government over its commitment to ending the menace even as they urged President Goodluck Jonathan “to intensify efforts to restore law and order throughout the federation.” BRACED also appealed to all aggrieved persons and groups to use available constitutional process to seek redress instead of resorting to destruction of innocent lives and property. The commission condoled with Nigerians, especially families who lost their loved ones in such attacks and called for assistance to the survivors. The meeting also revisited the delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and lamented that the development had impacted negatively on the South-South. It, however, commended the recent moves by the government to represent the bill to the National Assembly and appealed to the ministries of Petroleum Resources and Finance and the committees drafting the bill to act fast. To the National Assembly, the governors pleaded with it to ensure a speedy passage of the bill once the Executive arm of government submits it so that the nation could fully tap its resources. The governors further charged political leaders from the zone to meet regularly to enable them harmonise their position on issues affecting the zone. The state chief executives harmonised the communique they issued on March 13, 2012 in Calabar, Cross River State, with the one released by the Speakers of South-South state Houses of Assembly on March 29, 2012 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on revenue allocation. Concerning the proposed constitution amendment by the National Assembly, Imoke, who read the communique, said it was necessary to put together ideas and appreciated the commonality of the people to speak with one voice on national issues during the exercise. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=83554:ssouth-insists-on-fiscal-federalism-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
Funkymallam: Ogbeni, are u not tired repeatinf d same lines again and again on this thread ni?A thousand words from him perhaps will paint the pictures Beaf demanded. lol ![]() |
dmainboss: @Gbawe,I agree with this comment, as definition of bigotry and hypocrisy! |
Beaf: Gbawe o!Bashiru Berger, hehehehehehehehe funny stuff |
@Rhino, we seem to share the same point of view on politics being about stability first and that is also the answer I will give you concerning your suggestion that Igbos do not line up behind a candidate. On the contrary we do, as recently as 2011 election. But beyond that Igbos do not just do that, the stability of the nation has always being first for every igbo leader considering our ubiquitousness. That explains why we lined up to support Obj first term, Yar Adua the lesser evil, and Goodluck from the very marginalized. If other zone play politics of stability, then we should know that what the North need now is human resource development and what the SE need is the presidency. Rochas presidency will address both. But like we both agreed, Jonathan has to decide whether he want to leave or continue. If he choose to continue, SE will support him, maybe not with the same fiery passion, but we will support him none the less. But if he choses to leave we will be happy to step in and perhaps forget about biafra agitation for very long time. In 2015, if GEJ leaves, Nigeria will have a choice to make, a competent SE leader or pacify the north one more time. |
@Rhino, GEJ has maintained he would be going for a single term and has not changed his mind. But if he does change his mind 'in good time' he will most likely get the same support he got from the SE. SE believe in fairness and also rotation across the 6 zones not just north and south. as per your preference for Rochas and Nnamani, i would say those two are good - Rochas especially given his governorship experience and his innovative ideas. But in the end politics is about compromise. If the political calculation turns up another progressive SE candidate, I will queue up behind him at the ballot. but like I said, Nigeria will truly benefit from a SE leader in a way we cannot imagine, if the north will exercise a little patience like we Igbos done over the years. |
So now it's Christians versus Muslims in Osun state, no thanks to the rascally governor! anyway, "when the wood-insect gathers sticks, on it's head it carries them." Osun state is sliding into religious crisis folks from ACN are playing the ostrich. Claiming that the GEJ is after Aregbe. Whatever for! Like I noted in another of this kind of thread - Osun State will be the first beneficiary of this crisis! The sooner ACN call Aregbesola to order the better for us all! |
