One_Naira: Honestly speaking, I'm inclined to join afam4eva.

The presidency issue imho is something Igbo people should forget.
Rather than trying to join this desperate act of fighting for power like we see with ACN and North, instead focus that attention in other proactive part for our people (i.e: creating more jobs for the college graduates, building roads, schools, hosiptal, decreasing poverty like they are doing right now, increasing female and male literacy, pretty much focusing on improving the life of the ordinary Igbo person). Whether we like it or not, presidency or no presidency, Nigeria is a f.u.cked up country with no chance of ever improving. Notice how GEJ have taken the blame of Nigeria ever lasting problem which was created because he gotinto power. If and I repeat IF an Igbo man joins him, just like GEJ, he would also take the blame of everything already wrong with Nigeria. Rather than wasting time on trying to get power in that country's situation, use that same aggression on something proactive. Shikena!!! Leave the power desperation fight for the north and ACN and I guess PDP as well (so far I have not seen PDP join in the desperation act).
It is still a wrong attitude to Ignore such thing as presidency of a country like Nigeria. A country where everything revolves at the centre! What is the guarantee their the presidency will not be used to frustrate your lofty agenda? That is the problem my brother.

The potential of the SE is more or less hampered by policy makers - read presidency! While I will not advocate scrambling for it with reckless abandon, ignoring it completely will be a strategic mistake. We must MULTITASK!

51 Rocket Launchers Uncovered in Gombe

06 Apr 2012

By Michael Olugbode

Security operatives Thursday seized 51 rocket launchers in a house in Barunde area of Gombe metropolis which was being used to manufacture rockets and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the raid, carried out by State Security Service (SSS) personnel and the army, came a few hours after four persons were arrested with 60 explosive devices in another part of the city.

The Director of SSS in Gombe State, Mr. Bitrus Asha, who conducted journalists round the “factory”, said one man had been arrested in the house.

Asha disclosed that 51 rocket launchers, 48 bags of fertiliser, sulphuric acid and cortex items were recovered.

Other items recovered are detonators, remote control devices, different types of chemicals, six containers for preparation of IEDs and other items.

He advised people to report suspicious characters to security agents, adding that the SSS and other security agencies would reinforce the operation, which would be sustained.

Meanwhile, Borno State government and the Joint Task Force (JTF) Thursday blamed the residents of the state for the continued siege of Boko Haram on the state.

They said the non-provision of vital information that would lead to the arrest of the sect members was the reason why there was no end in sight to the insecurity of the state and by extension the entire nation.

The Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, who was at the Monday Market, Maiduguri, where 11 persons were confirmed killed by the sect, said the only way to end the onslaught of the fundamentalists was by providing the right information that would lead to their arrest.

The deputy governor, who was at the market to commiserate with the traders, promised that the state government in collaboration with the security agencies would provide adequate security in and around the market.
He assured the families of those who lost their beloved ones that government would assist them in whatever capacity, and called on the general public to cooperate with the security agencies in providing information that would assist in arresting those who are terrorising innocent people in the state.

Mustapha added that without the people giving adequate information to the security agencies, government alone could not stop the rampant killings by the faceless group who are hiding under religion to cause mayhem.

He also directed the General Manager of the market, Alhaji Ajiya Terab, to sensitise all traders on the importance of giving information on suspected criminals in the market to the security agencies, particularly the JTF, promising that such information would be treated with confidentiality.

Also yesterday, the JTF came out to state that the battle to smoke out the fundamentalists was needlessly prolonged due to the uncooperative attitude of residents of Maiduguri.

The spokesman of the task force, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, in a press release, said: "The JTF in Borno State has observed with concern the poor attitude of the public in Maiduguri metropolis to the issue of information sharing with security agencies.
"It is worrisome that Boko Haram terrorists are living in the same community with the people without requisite information that will assist the JTF in arresting them."

He warned that the task force would deal ruthlessly with anyone trying to disrupt the peace of the state especially during the Easter period and beyond.
Musa assured everyone of confidentiality of information given.

He said: "They need not fear for any information passed to the JTF will be treated with utmost confidentiality."

More facts have been provided on Wednesday’s attack on the Monday Market.

Terab said that 11 persons were killed, made up of nine Igbos and three Kanuri traders.

Musa had on Wednesday said that only one person was killed in the deadly attack, but his counterpart in the police was more lenient with the truth, insisting that seven persons were killed.

Terab, who conducted the deputy governor round the scene of the attack, stated that seven out of the 11 died at the spot, while the other four who were rushed to the hospital for treatment could not survive the gunshots.
Three of them also died before reaching the hospital, including Miss Amaka, who in the process of running to see her father who was shot dead, was also killed by the gunmen.

The GM told the deputy governor that gunmen numbering about 10 invaded the market with four of them carrying AK47s, while the others were in possession of pistols.

They started shooting at their targets without any confrontation from anyone despite the deployment of some security agents in the market.

On why the market was closed yesterday, he told the deputy governor that the management of the market had to close it for the moment in honour of the dead.

How we midwife this process to avoid bloodshed is what we should be looking at.

Do you support Mali Splitting?

SS - Yes
SE - Yes
SW - Indifferent (split vote)
NC - Indifferent (split vote)
NE - NO
NW - NO

ndu_chucks: I think you mean El Rufai/Soludo ticket for any party, and Fashola/Ngige ticket for ACN.

I don't believe anyone would be able to stop a El Rufai/Soludo ticket, but the likelihood of such a ticket is probably 0.00001%

Sadly, the powers that be are not yet ready for a Igbo President, we'll have to wait for the civil war generation (60 years and above) to die off before we can have a Igbo President. That is , unless there is a divine intervention.
Oga keep quiet there! Why do you need to be mischievous. This thread is about South East and 2015 presidency not 2015 Vice Presidency!

For avoidance of doubt, Eze Onlytruth MEANS:

Soludo for PRESIDENT/El Rufai as Vice P, and Ngige for President/Fashola as Vice.

Will be keeping an eye on this one, to see who Yoruba will elect to cyber-lead them. I think Jarus will do just fine, he doesn't talk much and he is cool headed. Ekt_bear is very calculating and more strategic in his approaches, even though he could be very sly at times.

Dayokanu or Dayo-oponu will be a strange figure to consider for this strategic duty; he is incapable of laying a straw across a spill let alone building a bridge across the Niger. Eko Ile is a joke. Whoever put his name there has done a great disservice to the children of Odua, I think you should strike him out.

PoliticsRe: Worst Case Scenario: Southeast Loses 2015: Ndi Igbo What Next? by PointB: 9:34pm On Apr 05, 2012
Onlytruth: Okay, here is my take.

I believe that our destiny remains firmly in our hands, if we understand that fact. What I've seen so far is that the Igbo mindset needs a little shake up to wake us up to the reality of life in Nigeria, and to force us to think in ways that enhance our survival as Ndigbo in Nigeria.
So far on this thread, I already see some Igbo making irresponsible statements as if they are in a civilized country: "oh I don't care who emerges president, provided blah this blah that". Like duh! undecided
How many years have we lived by this mindset, and what has it fetched us in Nigeria? Take a careful look at Nigeria, the SE is by far the most marginalized zone in Nigeria; and this is a zone that is the heartbeat of the Nigerian nation. Why then are our federal roads and other federal projects neglected?
As a major tribe in Nigeria, why do we have the least representation at the federal level owing to being the only zone with 5 states in Nigeria? All these happened in the period between 1967 and today - a whopping 45 years! In that period there have been 11 Nigerian presidents! Yet none of them have treated us fairly comparative to other zones. Jonathan has been in office for about one year, so I would wait till December this year to judge him. cool

So, hear me loud and clear, going by Nigeria's past, IT IS HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE FOR ANY IGBO TO SAY THAT HE DOES NOT CARE WHETHER WE PRODUCE A PRESIDENT OR NOT OR WHERE THE NEXT PRESIDENT WOULD COME FROM (I used to think like that, but I have since dropped that mindset too). Please quote me on that.

Now on this topic,

I believe that Jonathan promised not to contest the 2015 elections. So, in that scenario, the only thing we can do now is to rally round ONE party as Ndigbo. We are arguably the single biggest tribe in Nigeria; and by Ndigbo I mean ALL IGBO from SE and SS. We should coalesce round one party by at least 90%. We can remain in other parties in little numbers. And the time for the groundwork that leads to that is NOW. I don't like PDP mainly because the party has not demonstrated enough care for Igbo interests in Nigeria. Once we dominate one party, we can then use our BLOCK VOTE which we demonstrated with Jonathans election, to put forward our own candidate and pick a VP from another block voting zone in Nigeria. We can get it based on these, irrespective of what the occupant of Aso rock wants. I personally do not believe that Nigerian elections would be getting worse. I believe the courts have demonstrated that they can rise to the occasion in recent times. So, I predict that soon, a president would emerge irrespective of Aso rock support. So, we need to give it a shot in 2015. If we fail, we try again with refined strategy in 2019. I believe that we will get it.
This is what we need to do.
Our destiny is in our hands!

Here I stand!

Yours truly

Onlytruth, Ndu di n'eziokwu 1 of Igboland, Eze Ndigbo Nairaland. cool cool cool

If Nigeria continues to exists, it is natural that at certain point in her history an Igboman will certainly be elected president. Currently within the SE Zone, people like Soludu, Chime, and Rochas, are capable of articulating policies and pursuing course of actions that can propel Nigeria forward.

If SE fails to produce the president in 2015 in a manner that is clearly transparent and fair, fair enough. We will go back to the drawing board and restrategise. If however every indicator points to unfairness and deliberate conspiracy to undermine Igbos, then Nigeria will have a case to answer. Frankly speaking, Nigeria is better off not deliberately asking for the Igboman's trouble.

Better to stand up and be counted to the live in obscurity!
Lady Bianca has hit the nail on the head; the response of the SE Governor especially at the initial stage of the Boko Haram menace, when for all intent and purpose it appears Igbos were the target, was appalling.

Secondly, to those saying it's Nigeria affairs and she should have spoken for the other victims, the point remains that 'charity begins at home.' She has to represent her constituency foremost before others. Let's not lose sight of the fact that we are in Nigeria, where the first nationalist coup was viewed with sectional microscope! Lady Bianca is wholly, and fully on point here. Haters should embrace Ojukwu Bucket!

Negro_Ntns,

I know, it's a sad state of affairs, In Nigeria you sometimes have to roll with the punches and wait for an opportunity to deal your own blow.

Hopefully the people empowering Tompolo and Boyloaf won't come out in a few years complaining about their abuse of power.

We dey here dey watch drama.
When the time come, and they complain, let's deal with it.

Negro_Ntns: point B,

In that last response, you just exemplified the typical Southern sit-down-and-look approach to politics. The tomorrow is another day attitude has not yielded favorable outcomes. The Northerners grab the bull by its horns, d a m n everyone! They know what just happened and we all know they will outdo GEJ when their turn comes to reward their pseudo military vagabonds. What will we do and how will we handle it?

They did not start the coup remember. . . they only responded to it. They did not start the agitation for reviewing 13% derivation. . . they only responded to it. They did not start the contention over offshore oil ownership. . . . they responded to it.

They are calculative in the North while we are hopeful in the South.
True words. But still noted!

Negro_Ntns: Kilode,

there is truth in that statement, but there is a twist of fate in it also.

If the Tompolos and the IBBs, the OBJs, the Yar'Aduas, Dokubos, Abachas, Abu Qaqas must be lumped together now as crops of the same spirit and whatever befits one of them is befitting the other, then I fear for the day when SLS shall be our President and Kabiru Sokoto wins a security contract for policing our cities and metros.
When we get to that bridge, we shall cross it. Nigeria is not a perfect country, as a matter of fact it is a bundle of contradiction. We live a day at a time!
PoliticsRe: Security Of Nigerian Coastal Waters Contracted Out To Mend Militant Tompolo by PointB: 2:23am On Apr 03, 2012
Negro_Ntns: Thats not Tompolo in the picture.

Point B,

will you accept an ex-robber whose hands is stained with innocent blood to marry your daughter? Focus on the implication of the security risk of this contract to future political outcomes when other regions are in power and the broadness with which their imagination can extend the range for contracting security of the sovereignty to private hands. The EX designation is not important, a robber and murderer is simply no longer a fitting and credible member of society to be entrusted with the care and protection of your child. Am i correct?
But you and your folks supported the continuous marginalization of the SS and the SE Zone. South South Zone deserved at least 50% of their resources, while the SE deserve and additional state, and also the presidency. When other regions were in power, they were busy allocating oil blocks to themselves, have you focused on that lately? Should the fellow who come to equity not come with clean and open hand?

We cannot simply pick and choose what is good. Let this and other matter be discussed at a Sovereign National Conference, other than that, the current jungle law of Nigeria should continue. Let those in power continue to do as they please; support or criticism will be based on political expediency.

In any case, Tompolo getting a government contract has not bearing with whether he marries my daughter or not. The two issues are not related; besides my daughter will be be free to marry whoever she chooses knowing all the facts because she will marry as an adult!
