PapaBrowne: Trust me, restructuring would win by a long short. I have done a sampling everywhere I can and most Igbos prefer restructuring.
And I will explain.
Many people agitating for secession are doing so with the wrong assumption that the South South would readily be a part of Biafra.
I have asked many Biafra supporters if they would readily secede without Rivers state and the answer I get is that there are Igbos in Rivers. Then I asked people of the Igboid groups in Rivers state whether they'd love to go with Biafra and the answer I get is largely that they aren't part of Biafra. Meaning a referendum in Rivers would be totally against Biafra.
Now are the 5 eastern states likely to vote secession in a referendum? Well maybe young people yes, but older people would choose restructuring. Also Igbos living outside of the South East would largely influence family members back home to vote against secession and vote restructuring.
Nnamdi Kanu made too many mistakes at the beginning with his hate speeches as he bred a legion of hateful subscripts who troll the internet attacking even ethnic groups in the South South that were hitherto great supporters of the South East. It's simple no longer made sense for minorities of the South South to continue in thier support of A Biafra that was forcefully including them without any form of dialogue. Terrible strategy.
I'm sorry I can't trust you.
Your sampling does not constitute scientific evidence, as a matter of fact wrong inference were drawn afterward. When faced with the stark reality of a potential Igbo nation or Biafra via referendum, Igbos in the South South will mostly definitely want to join their kiths and kin in the new nation. When this happen, other South South ethnic groups who are skeptical will be wooed to join the train. These holdout ethnic groups will realize at that point that it will be easier to break free from Nigeria and enjoy their 100% resource control under Biafra or on their own. No self-respecting ethnic group will want to waste time remaining in Nigeria. Expect a domino effect!
Concerning the referendum itself, Igbos outside Igboland, may not know how where it pinches, and will surely struggle to exert any level on influence over those who are voting at home. How many of these Igbos were able to mobilise people to vote for GEJ in the last election? The everyman for himself mantra will drive the vote. IPOB rhetorics and continual reminders of the servitude and pain of being part of Nigeria will sway voters. Expect landslide victory in favour of Biafra.
In anycase, the five South East state have resources (human and natural) to sustain a country, and thrive while at it. Even though oil is overrated, it doesn't mean SE don't have enough of it to sustain an Igbo nation. Investment in Oil and Gas and other sector will shoot up. The Igbo man ingenuity and doggedness will propel the new nation to rapid growth. International Airports will boast diplomacy and foreign trade, and large cargo airports will mitigate the need for sea access if it comes to that. And it will be easier to hold our official accountable without having to deal with the Nigeria factor.
IPOB/Nnamdi Kanu's so-called hate speech is what has brought us to this point. Juxtapose it with MASSOB/Nwazuruike's approach and tell us which is far more effective. Kanu's strategy's is scripted straight from Sun Tsu Art of War, and Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power, and that's proved more effective than MASSOB/Nwazuruike's scatter gun methodology. And if you insist Kanu made a mistake with his approach, then wait until Igbos are denied referendum and Igbo presidency by 2019 to know what hate speech is! It's better Nigeria deal with this issues now and fast. Meanwhile, restructuring without the significant buy-in of the people will only postpone the doomsday! Better we make our own mistake than to live in other people's mistakes or retreat in fear!
Kanu has indeed set the ball rolling for the 'destruction of Nigeria' with his brand of bitter truth. Now Nigeria has to die, if Nigeria is to live!
ProWalker: The President is sick, just like any one can be sick, that doesn't mean you can't die before him, such decision is entirely not of your will. Stop making silly joke of a sick man.
So you knowingly voted for an semi-literate sick man for your benefit? Words on the streets said you poisoned him. You should worry about that and whether you will also die before him and let me worry about when I will die.
ProWalker: [s]GEJ till 201? The joke is on you. Shameless folks, it's people like you that will never allow Nigerians to take the Biafran agitation serious more than a mere political blackmail borne out of frustrations, we know your own antecedent here on NL.
[/s] Let me humour you a bit! Where is the thing you voted for?
GavelSlam: Nations are concerned about their own investments and not sentiments. China and south Korea might have strained relations but it doesn't stop western nations from flocking to China for production and business.
reality1010: I agree with you, lets put the issue to vote which is the most democratic norms globally. Also i agree with Ekwerenmadu that IPOB should stop the hate speeches and concentrate on their objectives. So far so good, IPOB has been non voilent and i hope they will keep it up.
The rhetorics must go side by side with whatever negotiation is happening in the background.
It's good cop / bad cop strategy. No option should be taken of the table.
When Moses was negotiating the exit of Israelite from Egypt, the 10 Plagues played prominent role. The last was the straw that broke the camel's back. Asking Kanu to stop what's working so far is to take a foot off the pedal. The threat of Chaos must be real and perceived to be real. Only then will Nigeria politicians act! Or why do you think everyone is talking Biafra now if not because a 'crazy man' is holding a lit matches close to huge kegs of gun powder?
wirinet: No IPOB member or supporter have been able to answer pertinent question asked by the Senate President;
Are IPOB youths ready to sacrifice tens of millions of Igbo lives and trillions of naira of igbo owned properties in the North and South West for their Biafra? Most of these IPOB youths including their leader has little or no investments in other parts of Nigeria, most do not even have reasonable investments in the homestead. IPOB is like the proverbial Baby that was in dispute between two women in the Bible. IPOB believes the Baby should be cut in half because she would never feel the pain of loss, while the real mother prefers to give away the baby than lose her baby.
Ekwerenmadu and other Igbo groups are trying to preserve their lives and interests in the Nigerian baby.
There are far smaller countries without the resources (human and natural) that Biafra boast of. They are doing pretty well. Oil and natural resource is overated. With our without our kindred in South joining, Biafra will survive, Biafra will thrive! And we are not abandoning our investments in Nigeria, they must be protected by same laws that protects the Chinese, Lebanese etc investments in Nigeria. Any Biafran found in Nigeria after the secession, must respect Nigerian laws.
“There are two major opinions as to the way forward for Ndigbo at a trying time like this. We have mostly the younger generation, who believe they have had enough of the Nigerian union, which they have described in unprintable terms. The other is restructuring, which seems to appeal more to the older generation.
Then we should put it to a vote / referendum.
It is wrong for older people to dictate to the younger one how to live in a fast paced changing world. Similarly, the younger one must not stampede the older ones.
A meeting point is the referendum. Let's put it to a vote!
Biafra or restructuring should be decided by vote, not some regurgitated panic buttons about properties and trading. These can always be negotiated by treaties. Nigerians are found in other countries so would Biafrans.
Cardozzo: Doom is visited upon u and your Family..... Must you curse nigeria because. U wanna leave nigeria.... And for those calling nigeria ZOO.... I shall never be well with you and your generations...... because. Biafra have problems with Federal government not the Masses
enigmaticlion: That police officer just lost his job because of this act of stupidity.
Actually, no court of competent jurisdiction has pronounce Nk person-non-grata. The police man offense is simply being caught on picture with an activist! This happens everyday in the zoo jungle.
In any case, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter!
ettybaba: As at the time the budget was approved last year the water level was too high for any work to be done. How much did okonjo iweala released in her 6 years as finance minister. Take you bigot head somewhere else. Technical discussing thread is way beyond your comprehension.
Only dumbos believe that c/ock and bull story. So water level was high throughout the year, up till December. Yorubaland is home to Nigeria bigots and hypocrite. You can take that to the bank!
Oblang: For the fact that the second niger bridge was bin reconsidered in the 2017 budget shows the govt is ready to implement it. I think fashola explained reasons why there was a delay with the bridge...
ettybaba: Sokoto Maiduguri highway or Lagos Ibadan highway which is more important to the economy of Nigeria? Which of the highways handle more traffic? Do these thieves know the multiplier effect on the economy of having the 2nd Niger bridge completed? This is one the reasons Nigeria has to be restructured. How much tax is the Government generating from sokoto Maiduguri highway compared to Lagos Ibadan?
Which 2nd Niger Bridge?
The same one that the Yoruba Finance Minister didn't release a kobo for in the last budget? These SW folks actually believe in the 'sophisticated' sh^^&t!
Nigeria need no restructuring, Nigeria should die. Every ethnic group should go their ways or choose to partner with whoever they like. This country is a big joke; a fraud.
Do you realise that Lagos State alone accounts for over 60per cent of the non oil revenue of Nigeria. What customs generate from Lagos port alone in the 2nd quarter is above 200 billion. So don't peddled your ignorance all about and disturb the peace of all. As if Lagos and Ondo does not generate and contribute to the oil till.
More reason why other ports should be opened and patronized.
It's senseless shipping goods to Lagos port and transporting same by road all the way to the deep south, when other ports in those places could have been used.
So whatever revenue Lagos Port is generating for Nigeria is because the 'faulty' Nigeria system made it so.
hornyofife: This is what the scenario will be if government decides to rent and import voters from other states.
If they will rent people to vote, it means they will need at least 800,000 voters and lets assume they are paid 5,000naira each.
that means government will be spending not less than 4,000,000,000 naira tax payers money alone to rent voters, and in doing that, they will have to pay them first before they vote. There comes the danger, what if after paying the voters and those voters pocket the money without voting what will happen?
On the other hand, if they government says vote before pay. There comes the danger also, what if after voting and the person in-charge of disbursing monies to the rented voters pay less or not pay at all or pay some and leave some? That will be embarrassing because those voters will come to the media to expose the government....yeye dey smell
From what I heard, when there are ballots papers available desperate politicians organise touts who 'thumb-prints' with palm kernels. So I don't expect them to import voters, but they will get the prints on the ballot papers nonetheless, unless there is a way to stop this from happening.
krendo: Why not IPOB encourage people to vote and then ensure the votes are counted fairly both at polling units and collation centres?
This move by IPOB is flatly wrong
The enemies of Igbos and our adversaries don't want Igbos to vote!
They will rather Ndigbo engage in voter apathy
Ipob and Nnamdi Kanu need to rather get out the Igbo vote on Election Day and ensure it counts!
In we don't vote and 'enemies' capitalizes, it will increase the bad blood and fit into the overall narrative and campaign of IPOB ala GEJ 2015. IPOB win.
IPOB cannot continue to condone a Nigeria organised election in Igboland, it's doesn't support the campaign for separate country.
hodusglobal: Nnamdi Kanu has turned his people to Mumu...
The thing is that it doesn't matter whether you believe it or not (I don't).
What matters really is how many people believe it, and what are they willing to do base on the believe? And how many of those can you convince not to convince others to believe it?
Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder, just one flame and the whole thing goes kaboom!
gowaga68: The Arewa Youths declaration is also yielding result they should add more steps ....... (I don't need to complete that as your guess is as good as mine).
Well, at least they can lay claim having issued a warning. Barbarians, savages usually give no reason for their bloodlust. So this is a welcome departure from the traditional unannounced annual bloodfest by Arewa Youth.
I'm sure Igbos and other southerners still in the North would have made preparations for expected eventualities.
