They are only interested in protecting their businesses. I won't be surprised if none of them have investments in Igbo land.

Lol
They were warned.

I'll probably lose one of two things in SW myself, but we must all pay a price to ensure a good future for ourself or next generation.

They are not nameless or self professed elders, they are leaders who were elected by hardworking Igbos living in the north to represent their interest. You are not more Igbo than them or the people they represent. And by the way, you are also faceless and nameless as far as I am concerned.

And to the lessons from their visit, there are lots to be learnt. Firstly, Igbo's in the North are not interested in your Biafra, that should be clear by now. Secondly, whatever you are agitating for, you can't do without engaging others peacefully. Throwing insults around is not the way to achieve anything. Thirdly, these elders have seen war and they know the implications. That is why they are more matured and less confrontational in handling the silly threats by the northern youths. Ipob can also learn from their wisdom in future engagements.
Fair point.

It's possible that Igbos in the North are not interested in Biafra, it's also possible the so-called elders were speaking for themselves. But the only sure way to know this is by conducting a proper referendum. But no one Igbo man can assume what the other want in the name of 'elders'.

And by the way, the insults and barbs seems to be working wonders, it's generating a lot of attention, heat, and discussion. Every publicity to achieve referendum is good publicity.

IPOB should tone up the insults and rhetorics. Shock and awe have good values especially in Nigeria!
PoliticsRe: Are There No Elders Left In The Igbo Land? by PointB: 7:25pm On Jun 20, 2017
In anycase, Yoruba and Igbo worldview are radically different. There is nothing to learn from yorubas.

We say what we mean, and we mean what say even if individually we say different things.
PoliticsRe: Are There No Elders Left In The Igbo Land? by PointB: 7:22pm On Jun 20, 2017
@Op,

I don't need to read all the potentially jaundiced trash you put up there.

But know one thing, every Igboman is a leader/elder in his own right.

When we meet to deliberate on matter of great importance, we prefer to go with consensus of opinion. But since there is no such consensus happening now, a vote/referendum is the right call.

Now if Nigeria threaten us with war for seeking Self Determination, the question is can Nigeria kill us all? Can Nigeria kill the idea? And can Nigeria survive the aftermath?

Who sent them? nonsense!
I wonder oo.

They thought wearing red caps make them elders. Red caps are a dime a dozen.

Beside, the Igbo world view does not recognise these sort of elders. They are there to protect their vested interest, and do not speak for Igbos.

I hope ipob youths on Nairaland can learn from their elders. What elders see while sitting down, young people with all their exuberance can't see same.
What is the lesson to learn from these self professed elders?

That's we shouldn't agitate for better deal for the next present and future generation?

We should subsume our well thought out principle of democracy for the interest of these so-called, nameless elders?

I hope they know they represent themselves? How many people can they convince to stop calling for referendum or secession?

But all agree that Lair son of Momed is a natural born liar.
At the time he was born, his nose pressed flat across the cheek, spreading out like a melted butter across his upper jaw.
Yet his nostril was as tiny as a needle’s eye. For tiny strands of flesh held the roof of the nostrils to the flesh beneath.
When he opened his mouth (to cry), his tongue twisted and forked like a serpent’s fang. His mother says he cried when was happy, and laughed when he was sad.

When he was fifteen, Layar’s dog attacked and killed a pregnant hen, “It wasn’t my dog. It was the neigbour’s cat that killed it,” Layar defended stoutly.
But the neighbour’s cat had died the previous day, as it wandered into a hunter’s trap.
And when Layar was told this, he replied, “Then it must be handiwork of the vexatious ghost of the dammed cat. I saw it happen,” he places a finger to his mouth before pointing to the sky.

Everything here is 100% correct.
From the analogue of the Nairaland scenerio and the Nigeria stalement.

Like I told the other guy here who was preaching about changing our value system as a solution to Nigeria's problems.
You cannot be preaching change in value in a country that is fundamentally skewed to favour a section at the detriment of others. We need a bottom up solution and that is to ask ourselves, "Should we continue together?" if yes, "how should we stay together in terms of resources and policy sharing"

Personally, I prefer a Federation of Nigerian States than some isolated breakaway sovereignty.
Whichever comes first.

PoliticsRe: Northern Youths Write Osinbajo, Beg Him To Allow Igbo Go With Biafra by PointB:
When a very sizeable population of any country i.e. Igbos in Nigeria do not feel welcome in their country, how do you expect the best from them? Nigeria can keep patching things up, but it won't change anything.

Some South-East politicians have started clamouring for Presidency in 2019. Let me ask, "Who President epp"? Presidency is just 8 years. In the end just like Obasanjo, and Yar/GEJ, and eventually Buhari, it won't changed the course of Nigeria.

Permit me to digress. The Nigeria situation is akin to Seun handing over the key of his politics forum to some individuals. Some of these individuals then feel so powerful because they have access to the ban button or perhaps because they never wielded real power. In the end they keep going in circles, chasing same shadow that they have been chasing for over a decade. Then they get frustrated because they are not making any impact: trying same thing and using same tools against same people.

When Seun gets tired of their listless and ineffectual meandering, he dumps them like pack of used condoms. We were here when Jarus ended his despotic gatekeeper-ship career in Nairaland. We saw Sexkilz tried to kill everything that moves, and there was ikenna who 'followed' every suspected trouble maker like a shadow. There was Ngwakwe, Afam4eva etc. Today we have OAM4J and others who lurk in his shadow. These people did (sometimes without human face) what they thought was best and continued to. Yet here we are. Nairaland has not changed, and doesn't look like changing. The toga of bigotry and tribalism it wore over the years has not been shed. It's rather strengthened despite whatever efforts the MODs claimed they are putting in.

This is no different from the pathetic country Nigeria is. Nigeria is broken, very broken. And none of the past presidents were able to find a solution to it. Neither will new ones with same system. Rather, it get worse with new ones.

Handing over presidency to us (Igbo) in 2019, changes nothing. The best it offers is a Pyhrric victory . For "if the foundation is broken, what can the righteous do?"

This Northern Youth Group are right in their support for the call for referendum. We need to look ourselves in the eyes and decide if we want to be part of the entity called Nigeria. Other ethnic nationalities i.e Yoruba need this referendum too. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is as sweet as stolen water. But there is always consequence. We have run full cycle are back to square one.

We cannot continue to run a country like this. Something need to give - the faulty foundation, I surmise!

Now is the time.

Referendum now!

Biafra (flag) is colorful.

Change is coming.

Let my people go
“Let my people go,” demanded Nnamdi the Bright son of Kalu. “We are not one with the people of Nigira,” he said.
“Let my people go to their promised land and worship the God who created them.”
And there was great gnashing of teeth across Nigiria. And the foundation of Nigiria was shaken for many did not believe Nnam the Bright son of Kalu command so much respect over the people.
For Nnam the Bright son of Kalu was no one. King Bubu son of Hari made him, when he had him thrown to the dungeon.
“Bubu, let my people go,” roared Nnam the Bright son of Kalu. And the people of Nigira began to quiver. For Nnam the Bright son of Kalu is no longer no one.

The Rise of Stone was inspired and dedicated to : NaijaMutant
After she made this post: https://www.nairaland.com/3232828/win-again-presidential-election-holds#47643336

Popular pitch
1. And when King Bubu by his words and deeds has pitched the people, North against the South, sect against sect, tongue and tongue, his love among the people began to wane.
2. He arose and addressed naysayers saying: “Lo, ye naysayers, multitude of the good people of Nigira cast their lots for me, for which I became king.
3.“Even now, were I to stand before Nigira again to ask that ye pitched thy tents and cast thy lots with me, verily I say these multitude will stand by me.”

A vote for stone
4. In those days, hunger and despondence has afflicted the people, and the zeal to strife and make quarrel with the King hath abated. And many men have lost their power of clear thoughts.
5. But one among the multitude stood. Above the scourge of hunger and despondence, she stood. She was no man.
6. And she raised her voice, and vigorously called upon the people, saying: “Lest King Bubu take us all for Zombies who sing day and night his praises, choose ye this day who thou would pitch thy tents with, and cast thy lots. Will ye, good people of Nigira, pitch thy tents and cast thou lots for King Bubu son of Hari first of his name, or this nameless and lowly stone?”
7. And she raised the stone, and place it upon a pedestal beside a portrait of the King, symbolically. And there was silence. Then...
8. “The Stone!” whispered one, meekly.
9. “I pitch my tent with the stone, and for it will I cast my lot,” announced another, “Surely a stone would do no worse than the son of Hari,” he added.
10. And in this manner many followed to cast their lots. Several for the stone and few for the king. For many agreed that King Bubu has reneged on his promises and have failed the people.
12. Thus did the people express their disenchantment for King Bubu, for the suffering in the land had continue to increase.

Campaign after election
13. King Bubu and his men have shown little knowledge of the issue, and make no haste to attend to them.
14. For even though the people have given King Bubu the mantle to rule over them, he continued to campaign. “I will rid the country of corruption. I will revive commerce. I will kill She-cow. I will…,” he continued to say.
15. And when King Bubu is called to task by the people to ease their sufferings, “King Jonah’s men have looted all the money,” he’ll answer, “We will pursue them, and recover all the spoils they took from the land.”
16. While he dallies, commerce crumbled. The people suffer.
17. And they sent prayers and supplications to him saying, “O great King, hunger knocks at our doors, as poverty has taken residence among several of us. Pray, good King make haste, and bring us succor.”
18. “Patience, my good people patience. For the path to change is a difficult terrain, and only with endurance can you walk it,” replied the King. Then he continue to tarry, and dally.

The rise of stone
18. And the people continue to writhe in anguish, yet endureth the pain. In the suffering, some withered like rose set upon by the noon rays, yet other hardened like leaven bread cast to the sun.
19. And this manner the people began to hardened their hearts, minds and body. For to survive they will have to be like stones – harder than the scourge.
20. And so when the maiden arose among the multitude saying, “Choose ye this day who ye shall pitch thy tents with, and cast thy lots. For King Bubu son of Hari or the Stone?”
21. King Bubu, unto them, was like a withered rose. No one wants it.
22. “I stand with stone.” they continued to mutter with their failing strength. “I pitch my tent with the stone, for King Bubu has failed.”
23. And when the tally was taken, not many were awed that the lowly stone garnered more votes and support than the mighty King Bubu. Several hundreds of people stood with the stone, and a few dozen with the King.
24. And thus began the rise of stone.
