Dangote doesn't have two heads, the poorest man in Africa doesn't have two heads, they have one head but one is rich the other is poor. Life is all about opportunities and taking them and what am trying to say it that, focussing on MCB certificate alone in this country can't give you opportunities. Except you look at other areas and find opportunities for yourself.
Yeah! Certificate is just an evidence that you can learn. After schooling you succeed based on your inherent potentials and grace. A first class or 2:1 will open door for job opportunities but what you do with those opportunities is what makes the difference.
It is just unfortunate that all these big companies can only employ few out of thousands of graduates.

Who are these few? What are they doing differently?

Don't allow anybody to deceive you that it is all about connection. Multinationals employ graduates on merit but the selection process is crazy.

Imagine 200 thousands graduates fighting for 4 positions:

Aptitude test alone will send 1950 of them home.
Interview/final assessment will send 46 people home.
Who are these fortunate 4 and what is special about them? If you solve this puzzle & apply it then you are qualified to be like them ( even better).

Ok, but If it's that easy, all these MCB graduates that are now makeup artists wud have done that.

If u know anyone who is medical microbiologist and have a diagnostic lab, it's either the person studied MLS at first degree level and went for medical microbiology at second degree as a matter of interest or the person employ a Medical Lab scientist( or using the influence of Medical Lab scientist, which is illegal )as the main Officer of that Lab. Find out more
And why would a Microbiologist want to work in the hospital or laboratory while he can become a manager in food industry and earn more than your Chief Medical Director?

The reasons people study courses that make them work in the hospital are:
1. the chances of getting a job faster than others
2. the deception that they are professionals by virtue of a license while others are not. That is the most illogical thing I have heard for years.

My boss made first class in Microbiology and he earns more than your state governor (without corruption). He is a top manager in a food industry.

How I wish any Biochemist/Microbiologist can synthesize industrial enzymes locally. He will become a billionaire in one year. I guarantee you.

Sanchez01:
You aren't communicating. However, let me clear you on why an Igbo president is a pipe dream, at least for now.

1. The PDP is interested in returning to power and will most likely hand over its ticket to a Northerner because they desperately need to win. An Igbo president under the PDP is unrealistic as there is no Igbo politician with a national appeal. Heck, not even one that can win an election outside his state, even in the South East.

2. The APC will most likely retain the seat and understands that the best way to do it is to NOT hand its presidential ticket to someone of the Igbo extraction. Why? Because the North will aggressively reject the idea and the APC will lose the North. Plus, the North is still interested, leaving the battle to the North and South West.

3. Voting Strength: The South East is the least influential region, politically, as far as Nigeria is concerned, which is why the PDP had taken the region for a ride for over 16 years. Both parties know they only need a fraction of the South East vote and then look forward to appealing to the SW for the decider. Knowing the South East is weak vote-wise, it would be foolhardy to entrust the ticket to a region with low voting power.

4. National Appeal: While Tinubu has mastered the art of packaging and winning, one thing 'his' politicians all have in common is a sound profile and a decent amount of popularity outside their region. None of your politicians have that.

5. The North: I hate to say this, but the North will never vote an Igbo candidate, no thanks to history. The level of distrust is so huge that any party that announces an Igbo presidential candidate, as far as the North is concerned has set itself up for failure. While the South East warms up to the North, the North look toward the South West for periodic relationships, which is why they are unbothered so long they are in agreement with the Yorubas.

6. Absence of power politicians: You all hate the feeling of a Tinubu in the South East but it is somewhat necessary. The absence of one is why there is no unification in the South East. Rochas is to Imo as Gburugburu is to Enugu. Worse is the fact that these guys don't even wield any power even at home. The North will always rely on the West because of the presence of its unifiers, namely Obasanjo and more importantly BAT. They need his power, his influence and his alliance to succeed in the West and he has transcended to the North with the influence.

7. Burnt Bridges: Not sure I should say anything about this... You already know.

So, my good friend, there is no surprise whatsoever in 2023. The election will be decided the day either party hands the ticket to the South East.

PS: APGA would have had a shot at producing an Igbo president but it is primarily an Anambra party, not even respected outside Anambra.
I can tell you for free that the next president of Nigeria will be an Igbo man.
Record this in your diary and remind me of it come May 29, 2023.
You know nothing about international politics.

Oh I remember, Obasanjo was made president to compensate you for the death of your illustrious son, Abiola and that was enough for you. Abiola must be crying in his grave.
Now, during the so-called Obasanjo's regime, did you enjoy any preferential treatment? Was your life better than other Nigerians?

Out of Thousands of Biochemistry Graduates out there....

Do you know why Medicine/Health Courses are still good? It's because they have Low Unemployment Rate.
Nothing goes for nothing.
1. You spend 8-10 years to become a doctor and you consider yourself lucky if you get employed in government hospital and earn around 200k. You need to study more to grow in your career.
2. B. SC Biochemistry + NYSC = 5 years (You can land a good job at this stage that pays 200k+). M. SC- 2 years (you qualify for lecturing position and management trainee position in multinationals if you are good) and PhD 3- years (you are now unstoppable, flying in every dimensions in your career).
There is no almighty formular or short cut for greatness. Pay the price and become great.

Is it not Gabbage in,Gabbage out grin

We have Underemployed and Unemployed Health Practitioners but you can't compare them to thousands and thousands of Biochemistry and other Related Graduates out there.
Medicals, Most times ,usually have a Headstart.
Everybody didn't do "gabbage in gabbage out" as you stated. People who are not educated produce pure water (simple distillation technique is all that is needed) and yoghurt consumed by Nigerians. We even import tooth pick.
Most interestingly, graduate trainee jobs in banks and many multinationals are open to all university graduates with 2.1 regardless of your course of study.
Also, research institutes, NAFDAC do employ graduate biochemists but it mainly man-know-man thing.
With 2.1, M. SC & PhD in Biochemistry, you are certain of good career in lecturing and research both locally and internationally.
Finally, the creme-del-la-creme of Biochemistry career is the manufacturing industry such as Nestle, P&G, Nigerian Breweries, International breweries, Guinness, Coca Cola, PZ etc. They don't employ much and their recruitment is very competitive but a management position there is highly lucrative. You start to earn what an MBBS graduate can only dream of.
If you are connected, DPR and NNPC employ biochemistry graduates as environmentalist and quality control officers.
The problem really is that Nigeria produce more graduates that the labour market can absorb. Everybody wants to go to school and get a good job by fire by force.
I have heared of a doctor who earns 33k in a private hospital and another who is yet to get a good job for 5 years.
No course guarantees job anymore. Many pharmacists are sales representatives (glorified drivers) in pharmaceutical industries. I know nurses that earn 20k in private hospitals.
Many Chemical & Petroleum Engineers are teaching chemistry in private schools with salary of 15k-25k.
I have read the lamentations of graduate doctors here who are struggling to get a place for housemanship for 2 years.
