Politics › Re: FG To Stabilise Economy With N350bn by porka: 7:48am On Mar 23, 2016
greenpasture:
This is an internationally accepted way of reflating an economy without causing inflation. This method ties money to the creation of new value ( roads, bridges, sewage systems, power, water provision etc). The method Nigeria has used through independence is " trickle down" economics by which a few people receive massive sums of money in the HOPE that it will get to the base of the pyramid. This method on the other hand seeks firstly to provide income to the people at the base of the pyramid while financing infrastructure for business. Secondly the amounts being given to these beneficiaries will have a multiplier on other businesses such as food sellers, agriculture production, and other citizens. Thirdly the amounts received by these people in the initial chain is unlikely to become either dollarized or to experience Capital flight outside Nigeria

Some people believe this government has no economic policy and they are wrong. Here is the policy:
1. Reject devaluation of the naira. Devaluation only works for exporting countries not import driven economies like Nigeria
2. Diversify the economy through points 3 and 4 below.
3. Create incentive for local products by defending certain local industries using high import tariffs and low official dollar allocation
4. Stimulate the local economy through intervention funds specially calibrated for the 100m plus Nigerians at the base of the pyramid
5. Reduce deficit through the effective mobilization of cash ( taxes i.e. stamp duty, single government account)
Of course 1-4 disfavor importation and trading which is essentially what goes on in Nigeria. Nigeria is basically an international outpost for the world's goods. This has really hurt Nigeria. The change in policy will hurt a lot of people in the short term. But in the long term creativity and innovation will create new sustainable jobs that profit from rather than being victims of international trade.

The economy is in critical shape and the government has placed a bet on the Nigerian people, not a few oligarchs. Everyone between 21-35 has to stop thinking job and start thinking enterprise. That's where the opportunities are and believe me with a strong business model, partnerships to scale, a well defined customer segment, this age group can take on the world ( IF they stop slavishly following celebrity life and take responsibility for their own lives instead if moaning and doing nothing)

My company funds start ups and I can tell you it's easier to fund in Ghana or East Africa because most young people here either lack fundamental skills or are not creative enough in a positive sense.

I continue to believe though - we've had some successes - and they have been stellar. Avoiding discouragement and a victim mentality is the first step. Afghanistan still makes the world's most expensive carpets but they've been at war for the last forty odd years. It's not the circumstances but the heart and mind.
This same argument was made when petroleum marketers' subsidy was being paid.

In fact, Lai Mohammed boastfully said the money would eradicate fuel queues in 'matter of days'. That was in December 2015. Is their anything to show that fuel queues have disappeared now?

Mr Man, this your type of elementary economic analysis will cost this country greatly. This N350b will not affect the common man on the street YET.

The contractors are simply being paid for what they have done. The money is not for new projects. Contractors themselves don't own 100% of the money. They must settle arrears of regular repayment to their creditors plus accumulated interests.

This type of thinking can't even work in Idumota or Kartin Kwari or Ariaria market, how much less a very complex economy like Nigeria.

Government waited for too long before acting. And when it seems they are finally acting, they are doling money out like drunken sailors.

Economic recovery should be premised on constant and continuous spending by everyone. You can't be boasting of having trillion naira in government account and bringing out paltry sums occasionally and claiming you want to reflate the economy.

28 states were similarly 'bailed-out' last year. It was only a scratch on the surface. Workers, and the pepper sellers you mentioned are back to extreme hardship.
Politics › Re: FG To Stabilise Economy With N350bn by porka: 7:25am On Mar 23, 2016
Contractors have financial obligations to settle with creditors. They must settle these obligations compulsorily before paying any staff or before thinking of recalling any staff.

They owe banks and other financial institutions. The banks' positions too are not really great. They can't advance additional loan to these companies even when they want to restructure the facilities with a paltry N350b.

This money will end in sinkhole like the bailouts to states before it. The oil marketers ordeal is also a pointer.

Mr. Buhari, get the brightest Nigerians for economic advice. This type of scratching the surface will end up wasting Nigeria's resources.

Stop your obstinacy.

Can we do the same for other aspects as follow?

Crude price: GEJ $100 PMB $30

Corruption: GEJ $bn stolen. PMB - 0

Insurgency: GEJ BH seized 14 LGs. PMB - Defeating BH.

Foreign Reserve:
GEJ met $47bn left $29bn despite unrivaled earnings.
PMB met $29bn and has increased it to $32bn despite diminished earnings.

Nigeria Image:
Under GEJ, Nigeria became a laughing stock and got mocked and ridiculed even by Ghana, Benin and SA not to talk of the Western world.

Under PMB, Nigeria is gaining back her respectful place once again.

Ben Llewellyn-Jones who is the Political Counsellor at British High Commission Abuja, asked this very interesting question following the high rate of violence & thuggery that characterized the Rivers state National And State Assembly rerun elections which held over the weekend. Your thoughts?

https://mobile.twitter.com/benllewellynjo1/status/711479002398105600
Dear Mr Diplomat, about a year ago, your government together with the US government issued a direct threat to the leadership of Nigeria concerning a very peacefully conducted election.

But today, all you can do is talk about the salary of lawmakers in a very poorly conducted election marred by extreme violence.

Is this not double standard?

Why do the emoluments of the lawmakers suddenly become more important than the conduct of the election? Is the expressed will of the Nigerian people not important to you anymore? Is the independence of INEC less important today than it was a year ago? Why does INEC's collapsed tent take priority in your comment over INEC's alleged omission of a political party's symbols on the ballot papers.

You have a very serious explaining to do.

‎
Foreign Secretary and US Secretary of State joint statement on the Nigerian elections.

Our governments welcome the largely peaceful vote on 28 March. The Nigerian people have shown a commendable determination to register their vote and choose their leaders.

So far, we have seen no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process. But there are disturbing indications that the collation process - where the votes are finally counted - may be subject to deliberate political interference. This would contravene the letter and spirit of the Abuja Accord, to which both major parties committed themselves.

The Governments of the United States and the United Kingdom would be very concerned by any attempts to undermine the independence of the Electoral Commission (INEC), or its Chairman, Prof Jega; or in any way distort the expressed will of the Nigerian people.‎

All the major roads I have always known since birth to be bad are still in a sorry state, and now you blame it on me for not being a traveller to see GEJ's giant strides. I hail you again!
Don't hail me.

(Alvan Ikoku College of Education) + GEJ Magic (painting of signboard) = (Alvan Ikoku University of Education) Hallelluia! grin

Meanwhile, Buhari Paid about N407bn in Nov/Dec 2015 to fuel importers as subsidy arrears being owed them by GEJ since 2014. Remember, the delay in clearing these owed arrears led to the fuel scarcity in November last year. And since its payment, there's been no need to pay subsidies any more cos of the low oil prices.
Your wild claim on subsidy payment is not in tandem with what the National Assembly appropriated for Buhari for subsidy payment as reported by most newspapers.

You can read the full report here and stop believing blatant lies.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/senate-approves-n575bn-supplementary-budget-for-buhari/

Alvan Ikoku College of Education's upgrade has been downgraded by Buhari. It was never a polytechnic meanwhile.

Be that is it may, your focus on aesthetics is misplaced. The school, along with Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and 2 others were already awarding degrees, affiliated with some universities for decades. They already have full complements of faculties, libraries, laboratories and structure to operate as full fledged universities. The upgrade was to give them the needed independence and expand the scope of access to education.

University is bigger than 'paintings' and 'gates'.

Do tell us which federal polytechnic was 'changed' to Federal University, Oye, Wukari. Lokoja, Dutse, Dutsin Ma, Lafia. Katshere, Otuoke, Ndufe-Alike.

Wonderful! I never knew Jonathan was such a miracle worker, from 4500km of fair roads in 2011 to 25,000km of very good roads in 2015. Such a miracle worker for these roads to be built probably on the moon, cos whenever I look around me, all the major bad roads I use in the SE and SS and SW are still as horrible as ever before. From the PH-Owerri road to the PH-Enugu road to the Onitsha-Enugu road to the East-West road to even the Benin-Sagamu road (save for the most horrible stretch close to Ore which has now been fixed, the rest of that road is still a shit-hole jangolova ride). Wonderful I say, wonderful!... Maybe the 25000 roads were built only in the north, cos I haven't gone beyond Abuja since 2009.

If most of the roads you and I use frequently are still like this, abeg tell us where these 25,000km of roads are biko?
You are coming around gradually.

Avail yourself of the PDF document and see the roads specifically mentioned. It's free, ok.

The total length of Federal Government highway roads in Nigeria is around 34,340.90Km. The ones you posted are part of the leftovers for Buhari or whomever to fix. Nigeria is much bigger than you have traveled (that you frequently travel). You may use a good map for assistance.

More terrible pictures of bad portions of roads were posted in newspapers and online portals before Jonathan fixed them.

You seem to have a problem with measurement of kilometers. It's easy, ok. Picture the 3rd Mainland Bridge in your mind. Each side of it is 11+ km, the two sides is totaled 22+ km. See?

Party aside and in all honesty, you have made some good points, but you also spewed some ignorance too (no offence):
1. Jonathan increased power to 5000mw, but the real question is, how much did he actually add to the value he met after spending over $10bn?... If Buhari adds 10mw today and Nigeria attains 5010mw, that will be the highest power generated in history, but is that an achievement that should be celebrated (especially when you consider the amount spent)? Lastly, was there an improvement in your daily supply? (answer honestly)
2. GEJ did not build the most federal roads and Fashola never made that baseless statement. If you are Nigerian, then you should be smart enough not to swallow any rubbish report churned out by dubious blogs.
3. GEJ commissioned many new federal varsities, TRUE!... but changing the name written on the signboard from 'federal polytechnic' to 'federal university,' commissioning it and then celebrating that you have created a NEW university, that doesn't really seem like a stellar achievement to any discerning mind.
4. GEJ did not 'make' Nigeria largest economy in Africa, this ignorance isn't worthy of an educated person.
5. No fuel scarcity throughout his reign, Hallelluia!.. But the question smart people should ask is, at what cost to Nigeria was this fuel supplied?... N2.13trillion blown up in 2011 alone to ensure that there was no scarcity. Good result though, but achieved through a very flawed process which resulted in huge damage to the nation's reserves. This explains why Nigeria earned its highest income in this period but instead of having savings, our reserves fell helplessly. Not a wonderful achievement if you and I must be honest.
6. Reduced ghost workers by 50%?... Someone asked a valid question, "if we dont know how many ghost workers are in Nigeria, how come you know 50% were reduced?" grin I would have preferred you mentioned the exact number of ghost workers for the sake of comparison because virtually all administrations as well as I can remember have discovered and removed ghost workers.
You are coming around gradually.

INEC has been independent since inception. Did you think the word 'I' in INEC stands for incredible?

Jonathan' administration never built any NEW roads. Roads are built to completion. If comprehension is ur problem, try asking for educational refund.

CORRUPTION is fertilizer distribution was reduced by Adesina. In fact, it was never reduced. I possesses my ID card as a farmer and I never received any text, seed nor fertilizer even when I went to my local govt. We were told to pay 5400 per bag.

How did u knw that ghost worker was reduced by 50% when the numbers of ghost workers is not even ascertained? By the way, Jonathan didn't discover any ghoat workers as much as buhari just did.

Jonathan did not build federal universities in all states of the nation. In fact, there are no new govt universities in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, ondo, osun or ekiti!

Go back to the nation bureau if statistics and you will see the growth curve of the nation right from OBJ's era. It was pegged at 3% every month..

Fuel scarcity... I bet you forgot the fraud in oild subsidy and the January 1st's gift to the nation. Besides, while this new govt now earn 6naira per barrel from not paying subsidies, even with decreased pump price, your Jonathan claimed to loose 24naira per barrel and thus, increase in pump price.

Sound trains and air ports to international standard?... That is funny and it exposes your penchant to mediocrity. Tell me, where are the new tracts and the new trains? Pls, dnt show me refurbished locomotives and waterlogged runways!

The word, revamped, must have a new meaning. The refineries were proposed to be revamped and was never revamped.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed laments over the ongoing rumour that he exposed the failure of buhari’s administration. The minister said I don’t know the reason behind the gross distortion of my comment on radio, but whatever the motive is, he claimed <<<

he never said that the Nigerian economy had gone out of the control of the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a reaction to the reports and criticisms that followed, the minister on Sunday, issued a statement through his special assistant, Segun Adeyemi, in which he said his words were distorted.

The minister described the comment as a gross misrepresentation of what he said when he appeared on the radio show on Saturday.

Speaking earlier on Saturday night at the third Kannywood Award in Abuja, Mohammed had said: “I know we are here for entertainment and glamour, but when a matter of national interest or importance is involved, everything else takes a back seat if only for a moment.

“Earlier today, I appeared on a radio show here in Abuja at which I spoke extensively on the issues affecting our country especially the economy.

“To my surprise, my views were twisted and I was reported to have said that the economy of our country is beyond the control of the President.“

According to him, this is a gross misrepresentation of what he said.
“I could not have said that the economy is out of the control of the President or the administration that he is leading.”

The minister said that the Buhari administration decided to turn the economic disaster that it inherited to a blessing by diversifying the economy.

“I think Kannywood is one of the examples of this diversification
.

“I don’t know the reason behind the gross distortion of my comment on radio, but whatever the motive is, Nigerians should disregard such distortion and continue to support our President and his administration to take our country out of the problems,“ he said
Lai Mohammed thinks Kannywood is an example of Buhari's economic diversification.

I woke up this morning to a report credited to a US commander which says boko Haram still holds territory. This statement goes a long way in not just rubbishing the efforts of our Army but also calling our President a liar. Gone are those days when the office of our president can be ridiculed by those most Africans see as superior race. If Commander Rodriguez must say otherwise concerning the gains of the Nigerian Army in the fight against boko Haram, then he should be willing to answer the below questions:

1. Mention the territories occupied by boko Haram.

2. Tell us why people now travel in and out of borno safely unlike before.

3. Tell us why major roads in the northeast of Nigeria that were blocked when boko Haram held sway have now be opened and currently getting plied.

4. Did he set foot in Nigeria or the northeast before he made such statement?

5. Why haven't boko Haram made a propaganda video showing their territories and hoisted flags like they did in the past?

6. Don't he see the gains of the gallant Nigerian Army in the fight against boko haram?

7. Why haven't we heard from shekau the boko Haram commander?

8. Why talk about a situation his country is not willing to provide help for?

9. Is his statement a way of rubbishing the efforts of our gallant soldiers that we the citizens bear witness of?

10. Why is his country fixated on stationing AFRICOM in Nigeria?
While we all await Gen. Rodriguez to provide answers to your posers, let us ask you some few questions too.

1) Who are the military men that are being killed every now and then, as evidenced by their relatives' posting their obituaries in the social media?

2) Why are soldiers still being killed?

3) Who is killing those soldiers?

4) If your assertions are to be taken as true, why did Buhari joined the Islamic Coalition on Terrorism, just last week?

5) Which other Boko Haram does he want to fight with the coalition?

6) Which other Boko Haram did he ask the Christians to go and fight?

7) When America was blocking Nigeria from procuring arms all over the world, citing a certain Leahy Act, were you not happy?

8 ) When America used South Africa to embarrass Nigeria to confiscate our money, were you not jubilant?

9) A serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Borno State publicly asserted that Boko Haram is controlling half of Borno State recently. Is it true?

That is the typical mind-set of the LAGGARDS.

Having failed woefully to make significant progress in their lives, their best bet is to look for a way to somehow 'arrest' other people's development.
‎
The foolish thinking is that since they are not making any improvement in their set goals, any other person progressing must be doing so ‎unfairly. They then seek for a 'supernatural event' to hold people's hands for them to make a catch up.
‎
The HARD‎ RESET that this guy is talking about is a wish for everything to crash completely, for everyone to start at the base. And 'hoping' that they would be favored in the new dispensation.

Unfortunately, things don't work that way. Life is a very hard competitive space. If you remain uncompetitive, there's no amount of ‎RESET that can solve your problem.

Competitive people can give you a 10 year advantage (not the mere 1 year of Buhari's so-called reset), you will still find yourself at the back at the eleventh year. If you are in doubt checkout the beneficiaries of the so-called revolutions. ‎

While it may not necessarily be the same name, the class is the same. Nothing goes to the whining LAGGARDS who are expecting a RESET. Only pains and more bitterness. Unfortunately for this guy, he acknowledged the ‎progress made in agriculture and railroads, yet, he prefers a phantom RESET.

That's a very foolish way of decision making. For in the past 9 months, billions of naira have been spent by Buhari, they have not been spent on agriculture neither on railroads. They have been spent on things that have no impact on this LAGGARD.

The job scarcity he feared would continue is getting worse, it is now in reverse,  jobs are been lost in millions by the hitherto employed people. Those in otherwise ‎safe employments are being owed several months  salary. Factory closure is the order of the day. Hopelessness is on the increase since no one has seen any RESET BUTTON. ‎

Instead of this type of people to be rueing their foolish decision, take their destiny in their hands, go out and compete like others, they are still somehow expecting a miracle RESET by‎ someone who is positioning his children to 'rule' them.
‎
Even if you give Buhari one thousand years, you guys will still be at the back, and bitterly complaining about your expectations not being met, while he would have done an incalculable damage to the polity‎, making it impossible for you to ever taste success.

YOUR NAME IS ARRESA AND YOU LACK COMMON SENSE! undecided
Please ignore the Wawan Sarki.

Even if some courses are not better studied abroad, why are Buhari's children treated differently from others in allocation of forex for studies abroad? And why is Buhari openly promoting such?

Is that not corruption?
Politics › Re: Ben Murray-bruce Comes For Buhari In New Facebook Post by porka:
That's how they roll.

Buhari simply exhibited the 'ranka dede'/'almajiri' culture prevalent in his arewa part of Nigeria. He couldn't help it. ‎

He and his elite class have ensured that education, enlightenment and exposure, the kind that are being taking for granted in the south, are only for the privileged few in the north.

The belief has been nurtured over there for decades. Only the children of the privileged should go to school or go abroad to study. The rest are most unfortunate, they are the scums of the earth who could be given crumbs from their table. They are at the mercy of the big men up there.

They have used religion to entrench the culture. The religious belief that says God only is responsible for human's fate without him (wo/man) exercising his freewill option, or having any say in how s/he chooses to live.

While some of these arewa leaders have been trying to shake off the mentality, Buhari has shown himself incapable of changing this entrenched mind-set.

That is why you see a lot of youths up there not interested in education. They have been psychologically battered by people like Buhari to continually think that it is their 'destiny' to remain unlearned, unschooled and uneducated.

That is what Buhari is exporting to other parts of the country. To those who have a firm believe that education is a leveler of status and privileges. To those who have the convictions that today's sacrifices are temporary, which will eventually pay off tomorrow.

Even though he himself has displayed a general apathy and even disdain for self improvement, he is not immune to the elitist culture among his class. Grooming their children to continue the subjugation of the 'unfortunate' lots is what they seek to pursue vigorously.

Getting foreign currencies at the CBN official rates for their children's education abroad while the 'unfortunate' low-class people's children are exposed to the vagaries of unstable parallel exchange rates is just one of the stories.

So nobody care to remind him that one of his minister just died yesterday?Has he finish mourning him?Just asking.
It is almost impossible to fathom what could be responsible for this type of smiling within hours of losing a close associate in a most tragic circumstance.

Or is he happy about the deaths?

Is this man supposed to be smiling and posing for camera at this time?

James Ocholi, his wife, his son and others have not even been buried yet.

What happens to wearing a mournful face to show that he lost human beings among whom is a prominent member of his cabinet? Even if it's for 'eye service'.

Why are they releasing this type of smiling pictures today?

Is this behavior not of a sociopath?

Much as this is desired, it is going to be tough doing it.
Nothing is going to be tough if due process is followed. As long as they will allow people to defend themselves.

Those who feel that Jonathan should not be subjected to harassment because of one bogus prosecution perhaps want to prevent a precedence, but if Buhari thinks that it doesn't matter, let him arraign the former president already. It's as certain as daybreak that anyone coming after Buhari too will arraign him similarly.

AFP is perhaps trying to give Buhari a soft landing on his already failed presidency. You can be rest assured that if or when Jonathan's case failed, the likes of AFP and the rest will call on Buhari to put the Queen to trial.

Watchout for a direct opposite response from the presidency on behalf of the Fulanis.

While no comment/statement whatsoever has been issued from Abuja on the daily massacre of Nigerians by the Fulanis.

I think we have too issues here, was it a mistake voting in Buhari, no way! The world would have laughed at us if we voted Jonathan back into power. That for me is case closed! But we have another issue with us right nw. Is the govt currently struggling, hell yes! And they seem not to have a plan at all. And that is where i am bothered!!!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

How many intelligent people based their decisions on whether or not someone laughed at them? No many, if any.

How many smart people have rejected a clear projected intelligent pattern for a wishy-washy, no substance wishful thinking? Rare.

And you are only bothered after the fact?

You must be a first-class gambler.

Putting the cart before the horse is hardly an intellectual trait.

Are they not laughing at you now?

Are they clapping for you now?

That is the kind of mistake I wish to make over and over. Far better and purposeful than what we have before. In any case have you heard the TSA have hit N2.9tr? We are almost half the budget.
You don't have basic understanding.

The TSA is the federation's revenue account. It's Nigeria's account - the three tiers of government.

The budget you are referring to is for the federal government.

The federal government's share is 50+%. A percentage is similarly shared to the states and local governments from the account.

It's still a long way to go. The budget itself is going to be financed by heavy borrowing, N2.2trn on a $38 per barrel oil price benchmark. Lending institutions have not agreed to advance any loan yet, except the Chinese $2bn. No process has commenced on the issuance of bond yet, amid an impending ratings downgrade. And we are in March.

That was why Buhari had to relocate Nigeria's presidency to the Middle East for a whole week, begging the Saudis and the Qataris for production cut, against their own initiative of January level production freeze, with a promise to help them make Jerusalem the capital of Palestinian State in return.

If the TSA was/is the magic bullet, he won't have to be running helter-skelter and desperately committing Nigeria to silly promise in the process.

You people are always behaving like children who are excited with sweets and baba kabo omo ku ile type of brainwash.

Hopelessness.

Despondency.

Massive and increasing unemployment.

Massive layoffs.

Hunger.

These will ignite any violence within seconds.

Buhari and APC are testing the limits of Nigerians resilience.

They don't have any idea that the RESILIENCE is as a result of people doing something (working in one form or another), no matter how unrewarding the enterprises are, hoping that things get better.

Now, a very large percentage of Nigerians are increasingly becoming hopeless, there's nothing they are doing. There's nothing in sight in the near future. There's nothing in the horizon. Hopes have been stretched to the very limit. People who were employed last year have been laid off, in thousands. More are on the line to be laid off. These artisans taking laws in their hands were employed/patronized one way or another by those being laid-off - as barbers, drawers of water, cab operators, dry cleaners etc.

Buhari and APC are playing with fire (literally). If this could happen in the most liberal and cosmopolitan state in Nigeria, among the two 'cooperating' ethnic groups, it's only a matter of time that the whole Nigeria is engulfed in a total conflagration.

Mr. Buhari should be advised to resign before Nigeria is burnt to ashes.
