crownprince102: You put your hope in Buhari. |
TippyTop: That's a child's play compared to real big time food scarcity looming. |
Iroh88:Did you people not say your 'Zero budget' was designed to finance 'gargantuan' projects? Did you not tag it 'expansionary'? Did you not allege that oil money won't be significant in financing the almighty, never-seen-before 30% capital expenditure 'zero budget'? Why are you talking from both sides of the mouth? |
Toeyoursea:Shame on you guys. Big shame on you. Buhari kept decimating the institutions that have maintained Nigeria's stability over the years but you cheerleaders hailed him on. You were shouting Sai Baba when he took 6 months to appoint ministers and claimed that it is those same civil servants that are his 'jokers'. You bowed down in reverence when he was talking about one bogus 'Zero budget' that he does not even know what it means. You hailed him when he canceled the weekly Federal Executive Council meetings where policies are rigorously debated and policy papers are presented by the cabinet members. Even when Ita Enang 'stole' the budget you guys were still doing your yo-yo dance. You never saw anything wrong with 'stealing' a national budget. Only to come out without shame, claiming that the civil servants are responsible. How could anyone so blatantly bypass laid down processes and procedures and not expect failures? What sort of blackmail is "The failure of this government is dangerous for our Country"? Does it look like the government has not failed already? Have you been to the street? Do you know what is going on now? If that is not failure tell us what is. Is there anything to show that there's going to be any semblance of sanity with the budget? They just brought in someone who was responsible for budgeting and execution of N135m for 2 boreholes as revealed by the Lagos State government. Is he going to do anything different from budgeting N78m for a website? |
Montaque:How many articles written by Buhari have you read? How many schools are named after him? How many books have you heard that he read? Who authored the books? On what subject? How many university, polytechnic, college education has he gone to deliver any lecture? On what topic(s)? They couldn't even properly ARRANGE an ordinary Honoris Causa for him. How many books has he written (even an ordinary FOREWARD)? Someone who made an accomplished professor a 'subordinate' of his journalist friend in the ministry of education. Does it appear to you that his mind is wired for any scholarly rigor? You are asking for too much from Buhari if you are expecting him to perform any intellectual tasks such as following the rule of law. |
Mrchippychappy:They will also pay RENT on presidential villa. |
It'll continue till 2019. We will pick Nigeria up from the terrible mess they are sinking it. We would start all over like in 1960. When they hear Bu... next time, they will think deeply. |
hinwazaka:That's a blatant lie. No central bank governor represents the interest of IMF and World Bank. IMF and World Bank have country offices headed by directors who oversee their interests. Central banking is not football league. Emefiele is grossly inefficient, he is serving the interests of the bankers who put him there. He should be edged out somehow. But Buhari will still underperform regardless of anyone he appoints. No matter how stellar anyone's achievement has been, the moment you agree to serve under Buhari, your records will be in jeopardy. And he will accuse you of sabotage. It's not a curse neither is it a prayer, Buhari does not have the capacity to lead Nigeria. He didn't have the capacity in the 1980s and doesn't have it now. He didn't improve himself for over 3 decades. The country is already messed up within just 8 months. There's another round of fuel scarcity 'brewing'. The last one ended last month. Each round of Nigeria's fuel scarcity wipes out substantial savings from the pocket of the common folks and further impoverish the vulnerables. Nigeria's institutions are being decimated systematically. Emefiele should leave already. |
Nigeria’s forex reserves decline by $1.1 billion so far in 2016 Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves have fallen by over $1.1 billion from $28.98 billion recorded as of January 4, 2016 to $27.86 billion reported on February 11 by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Oil prices have plummeted from an average of $60 per barrel when Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves were about $34 billion 12 months ago to an average of $30 per barrel in 2016. As a result of protracted slump in prices of oil and reduced government revenues, the CBN has resorted to unconventional measures to protect the country’s FX reserves. In June last year, the apex bank banned the sale of foreign exchange for the importation of about 41 items. More recently, the CBN stopped the sale of forex to bureau de change operators and also suspended the daily auction of forex to commercial banks. At the end of its Banker’s Committee meeting on Thursday, CBN officials hinted that the apex bank could tighten its forex policies further by stopping the sale of forex to pay for overseas school fees and medical bills. Tokunbo Martins, the CBN’s Director of Banking Supervision, said the demand for forex for the payment of school fees and medical bills is crowding out the demand for forex by the real sector such as manufacturing, agriculture, solid minerals among others. “We need to focus on the real sector,” Martins said. “The pressure on foreign exchange now from school fees abroad is significant. At what point do we begin to look inward? The pressure on medical is significant. At what point do we begin to look inward? And I think as Nigerians, we also need to be patriots in terms of our sentiments.” The forex restrictions have led to increased demand for dollars from alternative sources leading to the weakening of the naira at the parallel market to about N325 against the dollar as of February 11th. The CBN has kept its official exchange rate at N199 per dollar. http://www.financialnigeria.com/nigeria-s-forex-reserves-decline-by-1-1-billion-so-far-in-2016-news-366.html |
Nigeria’s forex reserves decline 15.61% to $29.13bn Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves declined by 15.61 percent year-on-year to $29.13 billion by Dec. 29, from $34.52 billion a year ago, data from the central bank showed on Thursday. The forex reserves of Africa’s biggest economy and top crude exporter also dropped by 2.6 percent in one month from $29.91 billion a month earlier. The forex reserves fell to their lowest since July 1, 2015 when they stood at $29.07 billion because the central bank has been using the reserves to support the ailing naira currency in the wake of falling global oil prices, reports Reuters. https://www.today.ng/business/59398/nigerias-forex-reserves-decline-15-61-to-29-13bn |
9jatriot:BREAKING: Buhari sends “corrected” 2016 budget to National Assembly President Muhammadu Buhari has formally sent amendments to the 2016 budget to the National Assembly. A letter from the president notifying lawmakers of the “corrections” was read Tuesday by the senate president, Bukola Saraki, during senate plenary. A document containing the corrections was attached to the letter. The president in his letter said the “draft bill remains the same and there are no changes in figures”. The letter reads: “It will be recalled that on Tuesday, 22 December, 2015, I presented my 2016 budget proposals to the joint sitting of the national assembly. I submitted a draft bill accompanied by a schedule of details. “At the time of submission, we indicated that because the details had just been produced, we would have had to check to ensure that there were no errors in the detailed breakdown contained in the schedule. “That has since been completed and I understand that the corrections have been submitted. “The national assembly wouldtherefore have the details as submitted on the 22nd and a copy containing the corrections submitted last week. It appears that this has led to some confusion. “In this regard, please find attached the corrected version. This is the version the national assembly should work with as my 2016 budget estimates. The draft bill remains the same and there are no changes in any of the figures.” Mr. Saraki asked the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, to ensure the copies of the corrected document are circulated today, Tuesday, so that the Senate will start debate on Wednesday. The 2016 budget generated controversy last week after senators said the documents presented by the president were missing. The senate on Thursday accused the president’s aide, Ita Enang, of distributing a version of the budget different from what the president submitted. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/196993-breaking-buhari-sends-corrected-2016-budget-to-national-assembly.html |
“We tried, but with Jonathan, it was best that PDP should fail to save Nigeria,” Obasanjo said.Is Obasanjo still a member of the PDP? |
If doing the right thing eventually results in a bad thing happening, you do not regret doing the right thing.Go and sit down somewhere my friend. You went to the market to buy BARANDA (a FAKE product), you can’t even hide somewhere to lament your STUPIDITY, and you still have the temerity to come out to praise yourself. Only children do that. Any adult found indulging in this kind of shamelessness is considered very foolish. “There’s hardly a way that a genuine product will suddenly turn to a fake product except it has always been a FAKE PRODUCT” How could ELECTING Buhari be considered as “DOING THE RIGHT THING” when his incompetence was laid bared before you? When his penchant for selective, ethnic and parochial tendencies were made available to you? Were you not part of the people who asked him to present NEPA BILL for the position of the president of Nigeria? Only a basic SECONDARY SCHOOL CERTIFICATE is required for a person to read and understand what he/she wants to sign; yet he couldn’t prove that he had one. But you praised him all the way. CERTIFICATES are issued to confirm that a person has gone through an assessment and has passed. A certificate validates standard. Perhaps you people were hoping to take advantage of Buhari's apparent arithmetic deficiencies but are now so dazed that some other "groups" have hijacked him, to your SHAME. Were you not the same person tweeting profanities about Jesus Christ because of your newfound god? Have you sought for forgiveness? |
At this rate, it will take 129.5 years for Buhari to turn Nigeria to 'paradise'. |
What you are witnessing is not peculiar Tolu alone. It's the situation with the majority APC clowns who promoted Buhari against all known rational and scientific reasoning. As you may have noticed, they are very frustrated - they used their hands to enter 'hot soup'. Many of them have multiple monikers on social platforms to hide their bile against their 'messiah'. They hide behind one form of 'advice' or another to communicate their frustration to Baba at the top. The situation is getting out hands, their calculations have missed the target by a very wide margin. That's what you get when you project on a best-case-scenario. From Bakare who openly said Buhari's government is a 'transition government' and called on the implementation of Jonathan's confab reports without delay, to Ashimolowo's 'Pareto principle' advice, to Mrs Tinubu's concern for IDP women's welfare, to Obasanjo's altruistic letter of concern (read blackmail) to NASS and now To's BEHIND THE SEEN 'wailing' as you refer to it, each of them is coming to terms with the reality of a monumental mistake of Buhari's presidency. The reason they have not done an about face is because they are still 'praying' for and 'expecting' a miracle. But God is not a magician. He has endowed everyone with his/her own abilities. And has given each one to improve in learning and skills. There's no way a professional taxi driver of 30 years can become the MD of a bank without running it aground (that's if the shareholders and the CBN somehow approve his appointment). As the country falls deeper into despondency, many of them will 'gather liver' to leave behind the curtain to wail publicly. |
Aigbofa:Yes, he did. 800+ people were butchered and roasted in the fire when Buhari lost an election and refused to concede in 2011. Even though his party took a formal approach to challenge the case in court his reluctance to participate in the court process and the failure to concede defeat stoke the violence, until they managed to bring him to civilization and he grudgingly agreed to participate. 800+ people lost their lives due to no fault of theirs. Among the butchered innocent people were youth corps members in Bauchi State then who were butchered just because they held them responsible for Buhari's loss. It led to many states in the southern part of the country withdrawing their wards from the scheme. The 2015 elections would have been bloodier in multiple times. Buhari himself had threatened soaking baboons and dogs in blood, El-Rufai said they were going to use 'FORCE' to take government and then Jonathan's people were everywhere threatening to burn Nigeria to smithereens if he was not re-elected. Nigerians were already preparing to overrun the West and Central African countries in millions as refugees. Several people had already left Nigeria for safety abroad with families. And then suddenly, the peace loving Jonathan provided the needed LEADERSHIP. He made the call. That's the difference. You can't take that away from him no matter how much you try to. It saved Nigeria of needless bloodshed. When Kayode Fayemi conceded defeat to Fayose in Ekiti, his party did not take kindly to that. He was summoned to Bourdillon immediately. It was alien to them. As you can see, Buhari's government has not recovered from the shock of the unexpected peace that pervaded the country after the election. They were dazed for months. They couldn't summon up courage to do a basic thing like forming their government because they couldn't believe their eyes. There was no blood on the street. They had to check and check again to be sure. Some things that an incoming government should have ordinarily prepared for took them ages to put together. Unfortunately we are the ones bearing the brunt of the unpreparedness. By removing every form of uncertainties of INCONCLUSIVE electoral process occassioned by legal challenges, one would have thought the incoming government would have move very fast in putting out its programs. Nothing like that. Ordinary budget had to be 'stolen and returned' in January, 2016 - by a government that took office in May 2015. Their attempts at covering up the apparent tardiness are seen in all the lies and propaganda dished out every 12 hours. And with all that, the economy is taking a serious beating every second. |
Goke7:You don't speak about country's government anyhow as an ex-president. Only crude people do that. It's uncivilized. The alleged corruption cases are in court. Doesn't it occur to you that he might have privileged information that could jeopardize the cases in court? Let the case begin and then they call him as a witness or whatever. Are you designed to be crude or you evolved? |
CBN Act, No. 7 of 2007 (Fed. Rep. of Nig. Official Gazette No.55 Vol. 94 of 1st June 2007) Section (S) 1 (3) “in order to facilitate the achievement of its mandate under this Act, and the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act, and in line with the objective of promoting stability and continuity in economic management, the Bank shall be an independent body, in the discharge of its functions.” S. 6(3) of the Act states that “the Board (of Directors of the CBN) shall be responsible for (a) the consideration and approval of annual budget of the Bank, (b) the approval of the audited and management accounts and the consideration of the management letter from the external auditors, (c) the formulation and implementation of the exchange rate policy, and (d) making recommendation to the President for the appointment of auditors in accordance with S. 49 of the Act, the provision of the necessary facilities and the rate of remuneration.” |
Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Many Nigerians actually care more about the sound of a word than its meaning. Buffoon sounds very big for many Buhari worshipers just like TYRANT sounds too big to describe their god. The same Nigerians that called Jonathan CLUELESS for 5 years are the ones so frenzied about BUFFOON? The Economist article must have been hurriedly written perhaps to meet up with production deadline. At best it's more like a tabloid post and at worst it's looks like a hack job gone awry. There's nothing in it that has not been written by Nigerians. It doesn't offer any new insights into the economy except the dangerous assertion about the rumored collapse of a bank or two. That's what you get when you outsource your major tasks to freelance journalists. The CBN now has arduous tasks to assure Nigerian depositors of the soundness of the banks. If this rumor is left to fester, it won't be long before we start seeing 'imaginative minds' coming up with lists of unsound banks. The consequences are far reaching, it would cause a run on these banks and lead to major collapse of businesses and lives. That will cause more damage to the economy at this fragile time than anything BUFFOON will cost Jonathan. |
angels09:Absolutely! |
irepagbor:What are you saying too? Do you understand what a judicial process mean? Nobody was charged to court in Britain for 'Saddam Hussein's death', was there? All you people want is just to be listening to gossips everywhere. Dasuki and Metuh have been charged to court. If the courts need Jonathan to testify they would summon him. And you said they are 'suffering', pray, is that not what you always wanted? Are you not always happy for 'extrajudicial' tyranny? Why the sudden concern for Dasuki and Metuh's 'suffering'? |
popcykaylah: Those already arraigned have pleaded not guilty. Let the trial proper begin. |
"In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines." ... Proverbs 18:17 (NIV) |
kayfra:Buhari did not actualize anything. He would have canceled it under a phantom 'corruption' tale if the project has not reached advanced stage. |
Grahamjnr:Don't mind the shameless people. Buhari, their god, has started CANCELING everything as his practice. The worshipers will be claiming someone's achievements while projects that would benefit them and their children are being canceled here and there. A maritime university project has just been canceled but they lack the capacity to think of the ramifications. |
Bestbeelieve:Congratulations! |
matt32:Because many projects were awarded by Shagari and Jakande but were all CANCELED by Buhari. See why now? |
Kikero112:Which number are we now in cocoa production? Do you have any idea? |
ibotic:Within the same 16 years that you people said PDP 'destroyed' Nigeria. When it suits you - when there's no where to hide - you cherry pick shamelessly. We thank the Almighty God that it's too late for Buhari to CANCEL this one as is his practice. It's too late for Fashola to 'renegotiate' the contract and send everything into a tailspin - Lagos - Ibadan expressway reconstruction project has been 'arrested' as we speak - justified by a 'lengthy epistle' few days ago. This rail project was awarded by Obasanjo's government together with the contract for construction of Lagos-Kano and Port Harcourt-Maiduguri standard gauge. Funding arrangements was a mixture of Chinese loan and payment by Nigeria with oil. Yaradua that succeeded Obasanjo claimed the contracts did not follow 'due process' then. He canceled the east and west corridors but somehow left Abuja-Kaduna. (Yaradua employed the 'rule of law' to cancel many infrastructure projects in those days. He was cheered on by the 'crowd' nevertheless.) Jonathan adopted (continued) the project alongside the rehabilitation of the old east west corridors narrow gauge upon his assumption of office, which he delivered. We have heard the 'change people' said nothing was achieved for sixteen years. It wasn't until recently that Amaechi 'knew' there's a functional rail transportation in Nigeria. We thank God they are commissioning what they claimed never existed. Infrastructure decay started when Buhari forcefully took over the government of Shehu Shagari in 1983. Many of the projects that would have given Nigeria a leap into a more modernized/industrial society were 'ARRESTED' or CANCELED by Buhari - Ajaokuta Steel, Lagos metro-rail, Nigeria railway etc. To Buhari, every big project is corruption, regardless of the value to the society. |
This must be a joke. They told us that you just ENDORSED their anti-corruption WAR, how come you are AGAINST the policy that is in place to ARREST the 50 'looters'. Why is the policy hurting your companies now Mr Secretary? Are your companies CORRUPT? |
