You didn't say how mere having your BVN, by unscrupulous fellows, poses any danger to your funds.

Has it happened to you already?

How did it happen?

Has anyone reported any case of loss of funds from their accounts due to MERE access to their BVN by any criminals?

You have to share more details.

Nevertheless, you have to have adequate trust in the financial system. It is very safe. People behind Nigeria's financial architecture are not as dumb as this post suggests. They are some of the very best we have in our country.

BVN is not a pin code to access your account. It's just your identification for financial transactions.

It's like your driver's license number or your passport number or your National Identification Number.

The layers of security for your online transactions still subsist:

1) For access to your account;
a) Your user name, and
b) Your access password

2) And for transaction authorization after you have gained access;
a) Your secret answer, and
b) Your token generated code (or One Time Code - which is valid for just one session, in case you don't have access to your token.)

These are very robust security measures to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts and funds. As long as these are not compromised, no BVN can be used for transfer.

If there are any issues arising from the use of the BVN, be rest assured that the system is robust enough to address them.

Those who insist on judging you based on your religion, your dentition, the colours of the clothes you wear, the cost of your wife's wrist watch, the school your daughter attends, the size of your cattle herd, how Obama shook hands with you, your accent, and other such frivolities are the sore losers that would perpetually see absolutely nothing good everything you do. madmoney:
General Muhammadu Buhari said he had only one million Naira in his account before he became president and 150 cows to his name and you jumped, clapped and said, “Yes, that is a man with integrity. He is dirt poor.”

Shortly after the elections and without declaring his assets publicly you realised that Buhari has N30 million in his UBA personal account and owns a palatial home in Abuja worth over N2 billion. You said, “It is okay, Buhari is a man of integrity. He can own a house anywhere. He is not as rich as IBB, Abdulsalam, or Danjuma.” Instead of you to call him out for what he is, a man of questionable character.

He said he borrowed N27 million to buy his nomination form to run for president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and you clapped for him that he is so poor he had to borrow money and no president had ever been so poor.

A few weeks later, the wife of a “poor” general, makes a donation of N130 million to internally displaced persons in Adamawa. Because her name is Aisha Buhari, some people raise eye brows and ask, if she had N130 million to give away to the real poor people, why couldn’t she give her husband a paltry N27 million to buy his form. You said, “Oh! She is from a very wealthy family, the family of Nuhu Ribadu who also is an acclaimed “poor man” with cows to his name.” Without probing deeper, you swallowed the story of Aisha Buhari’s “wealthy family” hook, line and sinker.

Buhari said he owns nothing abroad, but yet his wife lives at Mayfair in London. Mayfair is one of the most expensive and exclusive neighbourhoods the world. So you really believed the lie that Buhari’s family, would live in a council home in UK? I repeatedly told you that Buhari owns the house in Mayfair where his Aisha Buhari stays, instead of doing research or at least some cognitive reasoning, you decided to call me names… Oh, never mind.

While Buhari was petroleum minister, N2.8 billion (valued at N645 billion in today’s money) grew wings and flew away from the NNPC account in London. Buhari claims he knows nothing about it. You decided he was innocent until proven guilty, afterall, he has sold you the dummy that he is Mr. Integrity. Yet you feel comfortable hounding Diezani Alison-Madueke for money that IS NOT MISSING of which a Senate committee investigated and cleared her of any wrongdoing from allegations fabricated by Buhari’s brother Sanusi the Emir of Kano. Buhari – innocent until proven guilty though money got missing under his watch; but Alison-Madueke – guilty even if proven innocent on money that is not missing.

Buhari said he would bring back the Chibok girls within 30 days of assuming of office, it is going to six months now instead of you demanding for the return of the girls you said you want to give him time. Okay, Buhari, please take your time.

He promised to wipe out his misguided brothers Boko Haram within 100 days in office because it would be a walk in the park for him as an ex-military ruler. You believed him and what has happened since? Over two thousand innocent Nigerians have been slaughtered by his misguided brothers under his watch. The deadliest reign of the Islamist terrorist group since they began their Jihadist campaign in 2009. Yet, instead of asking Buhari questions, you engage in an equally blood-stained conspiracy of silence.

Buhari claimed Jonathan left an empty treasury. But in six months or zero action on the economy and with foreign investors fleeing Nigeria, and with no cabinet… Nigeria is still in one piece. Please where does he get the money to preserve the economy? Instead of asking Buhari these questions and asking if he has been paid his salary and allowances in those six months you are busy passing the blame to a man who has left office.

Buhari has been jetting around the world disgracing Nigeria and Nigerians in the failed quest to be seen as a corruption fighter. He is running Nigeria down and making gaffes at every point. What do you do? Instead of holding him to account, you excuse him and point to non-existent gaffes of a Ph.D. holder president whom you love to hate. At this point, I have to say you are an idiot.

Buhari, is busy fighting the mantra “corruption” and the economy is grounding to a halt, you are losing your jobs and investments, instead of you to tell him that he can fight corruption and still keep the economy rolling you make dumb excuses for him and say he needs time to “fight corruption properly”. What does properly mean? You probably can’t say. But you give him a pass as Nigerian groan under the weight of a failed economy caused by a frozen-in1984 president.

Instead of reminding Buhari of his lack of an educational qualification for the job and why he should swiftly put up a team that does have the paper certification, you instead celebrate the “return of power to the North”. You forget to ask him how he is going to sustain the power he has. Instead, you remember to remind him that he is the messiah of his time.

Have you asked him what is happening to our currency depreciating by the minute? Why naira is not equivalent to a dollar as yet? Have you asked him why Nigerian school children are not fed once a day?

Have you asked him why NYSC members have not received their N50,000 monthly allowance that he promised during the campaigns? Or have you asked him why the current “paltry” sum paid to corps members are being owed under Buhari?

Have the docile “men of the fourth estate” aka the journalists reminded him of their insurance policies? That one is so funny………No, they have not but rather are still carrying on with lies and propaganda.

Have you asked him why petrol is N140 today instead of N40? Idiots you would buy and keep quiet after all your docile man is called Buhari. You still have not seen a reason to go and converge at the freedom park in Lagos and sing “Solidarity forever” Woe betide you all.

Have you asked him why he has not fed the old pensioners like himself as he promised? No, you won’t because you just can’t.

He promised you the best Angels and Saints as ministers but gave you the most rapacious criminals as noisemakers.

Have you asked him why he deceived you in almost six months? No, you have not instead you are busy telling people why he has the right to compensate his fellow thieving class.

He said the country is broke, but Fayose asked him to account for the monthly revenue as the previous government was doing instead of doing just that he is attacking and harassing the man. Does Fayose look like someone he can harass like that? Please, park well, Sir or reverse. But isn’t accounting for our monthly revenues what a nobleman should do? Isn’t that the true meaning of transparency? No, he is not noble nor transparent but he is a fraudster that lacks all forms of decency.

You still do not doubt his integrity as a person instead you are still believing him to be the Daniel that has come to judgment.

You are fools, but Buhari is a congenital liar.

Stand up and say no to #BuhariSpoilingNigeria.

So Mr Economist/Public finance expert... You want the government to bring up a supplementary budget to address contract payments left by the previous administration? Let's ask the obvious question here. was it captured in the 2015 budget and if it was, why were the payments not made despite the "adjustments" you claimed hàppend? The fact is that there were no funds... Do you think countries just slude into recessions? The truth is that until we see the 2016 appropriation bill, they (the contractors) might have to live as creditors to the state.
No, the truth is more like you are ever ready to offer yourself as Buhari's 'Abobaku' in any and every matter, including those ones you know little or nothing about. You jump to offer unsolicited explanations no matter how foolish they sound.

Suggesting that Buhari shut-down government operations till the current budget runs out because of some phantom oil price benchmark presupposes that he is handicapped and can't do anything about the plight of over 65,000 unfortunate workers who have been rendered jobless by his indecision. Unfortunately you know next to nothing on the issue.

If the revenue targets side of the budget is being implemented by Buhari, why the suggestion that he wait till the current budget runs out before acting on a pressing expenditure, which is supposed to be disbursed quarterly?

They didn't wait till the budget ran out before sending a riot act to the revenue generating agencies to surpass their targets, an important component of the same budget.

The other sources of financing the budget, aside oil revenue, i.e. taxes, levies, borrowings and printing of money have not been jettisoned. Levies are being ruthlessly imposed and borrowings are piling. Yet all you could come up with is a wait-out, 'super-strategy.'

If the construction industry has had a solid leverage like the petroleum products marketers, they would not have found themselves in this type of hostage-like situation. You should have advised Buhari to wait idly till the budget runs out before settling the subsidy on pump price that he settled this week.

Yes, Nigeria's oil revenue is low, but we are not in recession yet. Two quarters of negative GDP growth constitute a recession. Doing what you suggested Buhari should do is what can lead to recession. If the construction industry record nil growth, it would have contagion effect on other sectors. The 65,000 workers sacked workers constitute a major market. The other indirect employments and businesses are also in danger. The financial institutions who have advanced them credit too are also at risk.

Governments don't wait and run out their predecessors' budget. The period of 'waiting' is part of their own tenure and not their predecessors'. And no one will deduct that period for them.

Stop giving irrational excuses for failures.

You seem not to get it. The budget is operating on a deficit already because despite all expert warnings, the GEJ led government put crude benchmark at $65 per barrel. Now crude has fallen to about $45 and you want a supplementary budget? Like our outstanding debts are not enough... The obvious strategy by the pmb government is to see the previous administration's budgets' life out then bring up theirs... it's painful and it'll hurt but it's a good plan...
Professor of budget and national disaster, is this how you are running your family?

Did you go to school at all?

By seeing the last administration's budget's 'life out' and bringing up theirs, will it make the deficit turn to surplus? Will it make those debts suddenly disappear?

Is this a magical reasoning or what?

Do you mean Buhari will wait till March or April next year before any action? How did you come to this state of mind my friend? On a normal day, budgets prepared and presented around this time of the year still spend more than 3 months with the legislature, how much less a very abnormal period such as this - that ministers are just doing orientation at this time, that the minister of finance is not even known.

Who did this to you?

Budgetary oil price benchmark is not cast in stone. The same benchmark was adjusted once by the finance ministry and NASS with the understanding that further downward or upward adjustments would be made giving the realities of the oil price.

Supplementary appropriation could be used to address your 'offensive' oil price benchmark too. Supplementary appropriation can be used to redress the 'perceived' lapses, it's not just for 'pork'.

Government is not in the business of deliberately waiting for an appropriation to expire, smart governments act and they act fast. Buhari was not elected to come and wait for Jonathan's budget to expire before he acts.

Government don't inflict pain on the citizens because they don't know what to do, they seek for help or resign.

I guess most people commenting on this topic are so blinded by hate, sentiment and ignorance to have understood the depth of what is happening. How many people commenting here observed that the Federal Government and State Government (inclusive) failed to pay these construction Companies since AUGUST 2014. That means, no payment in AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL and MAY. That is ten months project owed by the Federal and State Government before the assumption of Power by the APC led Federal Government and other State Government on May 29th, 2015.

Imagine the massive depth profile left behind for the incoming Government.

As if this is not enough, most State Government could not afford to pay salary for several months until the current Government (Federal) came to the rescue through the provision of bail out. No wonder President Buhari keep emphasizing the massive financial misappropriation and unprecedented looting that took place in the past regime. It would be a great disservice and sheer hypocrisy to turn blind eye or deaf hear to the effect and impact of these wastage/embezzlement that characterizes the immediate past Government.
Now has a people, we don't want to listen when the alarm is raised by the Government on what is obvious yet we want to criticize and condemn "blindly" when the impact/effect starts hitting hard on the Nation.

Please what hate?
I don't hate anyone I just asked a question please tell me which brand new car in nigeria is less than 1.8m naira?

So how do civil servants afford to buy them?

The average house anywhere in nigeria is 10m so whicj houses or mortgage facilities were provided!

Regular Nigerians owned businesses which thrived under the last administration. They own farms, schools, consultancies etc. They own record labels, fashion houses etc.

Regular Nigerians own IT start-ups that became huge in the last 5 years. They own restaurants, hotels, construction outfits etc. They are professionals, lawyers, broker/dealers, accountants, media practitioners, photographers etc. They sweated, labored and were rewarded with good returns.

They really don't need any loan from any bank. They did not steal anyone's money. Many of them didn't work for government, they just took advantage of the enabling environment by the past administration.

Similarly, civil servants and teachers took advantage of the increment in their salaries to embark on capital projects - livable houses for their families, for example. Dangote literally made his fortunes on the back of that - local housing construction industry.

They formed/joined cooperative unions. They started Esusu schemes with the 'extras'. They did periodic contributions. Ten/twenty people coming together to make contributions gives a lump-sum. These give them the needed capital outlay for the housing projects. The effective interest rates are minimal, sometimes they tend to zero. This is more effective than any mortgage system. They don't need it.

(Africans/Nigerians don't understand formal mortgage system, it's too complicated for our culture. And financial institutions too don't have any idea on how to customize it. Having to transfer your land's title, C of O, to a financial institution and paying interest in perpetuity is too foreign. Too many complexities. Maybe that's why you are looking for the non-existing mortgage facilities.)

They are not stealing anyone's money. They took advantage of the what they have. You don't have to demonize people.

2003 - 132 out of 133 countries (Bangladesh was behind us)
