Why do people concern themselves with how others choose to dress?
Poster discusses what poster believes to be a disturbing fashion trend, and brings his observation to Nairaland so that poster can read what others have to say about it.

What crime has the poster committed? It is also particularly worrisome that there are so many females here supporting tight jeans on guys. Very soon you females will be competing with your boyfriends for the title of who has the tightest jeans. hoooray!

and you know this how? you argue so stupidly.

it's a beauty pagent. what other requisites did she not meet?

why did nigeria select odemwingie to play for their team?   the only reason he is in the nigeria team is because he is half white. not because he is half white who happened to meet other requirements.   he has no connection to nigeria. he was not born in nigeria.  he tried to play for the russians and was rejected. he was not wanted by the russians.  and now he represents nigeria. thanks to the inferiority complex of nigerians.

sounds about right?
You are the silly poo because reading comprehension has somehow evaded you. This is a public forum where opinions are shared.

Requisites as in being qualified to be an ambassador of a country to which she owes allegiance. According to you, if a fowl who represented Iran and got kicked out of Iran she should be allowed to represent Ghana. What are the ties she has with Ghana?

Using FIFA rules as an analogy, if you are footballer of diverse parentage, once you play for the senior team of one country of your parentage you are no longer allowed to play for the other. It is because of conflict of interest and loyalty issues.

Your sorry brain will not allow you to reason. Take your behind back to the village.

Ghana should be ashamed if herself for choosing a girl who tried to represent the USA but failed.

Hypothetically, had the current Miss Ghana been a dark-skinned lady with a Ghanaian father and a Kenyan mother, and she somehow competed in the Miss Kenyan pageant and lost, all other things being equal, if the loser in the Miss Kenya pageant now competes in the Miss Ghana pageant in an attempt to keep her hopes of competing in the Miss Universe pageant alive, would the judges have picked the loser in the Miss Kenyan pageant as the winner of the Miss Ghana pageant? I would say hell nah!

I can also tell that you are a fool. Odemwingie has not represented another country at international level nor expressed any intent to do so, so he did not violate FIFA rules. It is not like your own Ghanaian beauty pageant contestant who pretty much said screw Ghana at first but came back when things did not work out for her. Had she competed in the Ghanaian pageant from the outset, then there would be no issues of allegiance.

Oga, clam down. It's Fashion. A good number of guys wear those and look right.

All in all, it's a "style trend". We can't all be on the same page style-wise. If you don't like it, don't wear it.
very soon men will be wearing thongs in the name of fashion and "style trend," and i am sure you will say it looks right because a good number of guys wear it.

I guess weak men follow; real men lead.
Fashion/Clothing MarketNigerian Men Who Wear Extreme Tight Pants And Tight Short, Short Sleeve Shirts! by Princek12(op): 6:32pm On Aug 21, 2011
We know you don't want to wear baggy pants, and I understand that.

We know you want your shirt, especially your short sleeve shirt, to fit, and I understand that.

But why in the world do your pants have to be so tight like a girl, and why do your short sleeve shirts have to so small to the extent that when you wear them they look like the short sleeves have been cut shorter. I can understand maybe a muscle shirt, but a guy wearing tight, tight pants looks gayish. Nigerian guys who practice this man-lover behavior, step it up.

You can buy pants that are neither baggy nor skin tight, but pants that are straight and normal. The "package" needs air to breath, and I am sure God did not intend for regular guys to wear skin tight pants.

It seems a lot of Nigerian men want to copy the European men, but that practice is prevalent among the Same-sex European community.

My question to the Nigerian men who wear skin tight pants: do you wear them because you believe that it is the right thing to do, because you are copying Europeans, or because you think Naija girls like it?

when will you people jump off ghana's dyyck. haven't you had enough?

every week there is one thread here obsessing about ghanaians. they are this, they are that. ANY topic with "ghana" in the title makes the homepage.
the other day, one topic (about ghana fans coming to the cancelled ghana nigeria game) repeated 3 times on the homepage.

obsessed much?

you post a topic with similar looking girls and single out the ghana girl for criticism.

they say we have inferiority complex? and then they go on to pick miss egypt and miss botswana as their favorite? look at your own miss naija, is she dark skinned? ask the average nigeria guy to list his preferred features in a woman and 70% will have light skinned in their list.

and yet, you overlook all these and scream ghanaians have inferiority complex at every opportunity? how? show me a list of how we have inferiority complex and i will pick 3 more examples in nigerian culture for you.

this is expected though. as the saying goes, the higher you climb, the more you expose yourself to scrutiny. BUT THAT'S NO REASON TO STOP CLIMBING. So keep hating. we'll keep it moving. UP!
No one is criticizing Ghana because they picked a half-white chick to represent them. What we are saying is that the sole purpose for picking her is because she is half-white, not because she happened to be a half-white chick who met the other requisites.

Look at the following:

She has no real ties with Ghana

She contested in the Miss USA pageant with an intent to represent the USA; when she lost, she now competed in the Miss Ghana pageant in an attempt to keep her Miss Universe hopes alive. It worked, thanks to inferiority complex Ghanaians.

She was not born in Ghana nor had she lived there. She just went to Ghana to compete. It is pure lunacy for her to have been picked.
PhonesRe: Is A Blackberry Better? by Princek12(m): 5:22pm On Aug 21, 2011
Blackberry has lost its dominance in the U.S. market, trailing the Iphone and the Droid platforms, which is the number one system in Yankee. That aside, Blackberry phones are built better than Samsung phones and the user experience is much better (as to the craftsmanship and ease of use). But I think the droid platform has more features and is more exciting than Blackberry, which is considered boring and archaic.

Blackberry responded to this concern by releasing the Blackberry Torch 9860/9850, which is supposed to help blackberry regain (or at least recapture some of) its lost market share. I think it is a little to late in Yankee, particularly considering the fact that Google, which owns the Android system, recently acquired Motorola Mobility. This means that google now controls the Android system and the cell phone division of Motorola, adding more power to a powerhouse.

If you have an opportunity to study in the USA on a student visa, then go ahead and do it, but don't move your entire family. If you had a green card it would be easier to move your family with you and transition to the American system, as in finding jobs, etc.

What a Pity for Africa. You can only reap what you sow.The continent with the least investment in human capital can only reap confusion and stagnation. The main reason that our third world peers like South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil , India and others are light years ahead of us in economic progress is simply because these same nations have been investing greatly in the development of human capital over past 4 decades, while , we on other hand, have jostling and scrampling to get a piece of the so-called national cake.
Our wealthy elites are still not investing in human capital, rather, they building private universities for pure profit. With the high poverty rate in Nigeria,How many many average Nigerian parents can afford to send their Children to these mushrooming private Universities? The gap between the rich and the poor will continue to widen.
When will the leaders and wealthy elites begin to invest in human capital? It is the only thing that can save us.
What is the purpose of your comment: to chastise or to applaud this philanthropist who is building a university? Assuming I am true, that your purpose is to chastise Elizade university, don't you think building a private university that will not likely be subject to multiple strikes and will likely produce quality graduates is a good way of investing in human capital? Also consider that admitted students who hail from indigent backgrounds and who cannot afford the tuition will not be rejected but will be considered for scholarships?

Give credit to whom it is due. At least he is spending his money in Nigeria and this is a private sector contribution that will help develop the country.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Seun, Too Many Topic On Front Page. by Princek12(m): 1:58am On Aug 21, 2011
The more the topics the merrier. Do you want a quota system whereby newsworthy topics are not placed on front page just because of some quota? I don't think so.

If you don't like all the topics on front page, then don't click on it.

To the people calling a lot of of the topics on front page "junk" or not quality, you have to consider that the topic you consider junk and lacking quality may be gold and of quality to another. Stop being selfish.

I personally hate coming to NL after 12 hours just to find one new topic has made front page. I think adding more topics, albeit evenly spread out, will prompt NLs to visit NL frequently. My two cents.

I also like the fact that Seun sometimes puts on front page a topic that may be very informative but that which has not generated enough comments. That way, attention is given to other sections on Nairaland that is generally ignored. I disagree with the proposition that a topic has to generate several pages of commentaries before it is worthy of being on front page. If that were the case, the only topics that would make front page are the male-bashing topics or female-bashing topics or the other topics in the romance section that by their nature generate commentaries.

They killed my thread with midget talk.
Sorry to hear that they killed your thread. And the fact that they killed your thread says something about Nigerians: we are very humorous. Please, unlike any other blog sites you may have visited, where the commentaries would most likely be indicative of the true opinions of the posters, Nairaland is unique in that its commentaries are mainly from Nigerians who are very humorous and would make a joke out of anything. As a result, take most of the feedback you receive here with a grain of salt.

Overall, Nigerian men are very responsible and generally take care of their family and children. As long as you guys love each other, and you have made sure that his love for you is genuine and not motivated by malicious or other "personal interest" reasons, then go for it.

Your earlier postings have shown that you are concerned about the expectations of merging Nigerian and American culture, and I will address that. I have lots of Nigerian homeboys who married American women, and the marriages that worked out are those in which the wife learned how to cook Nigerian food. If you really want your marriage to work out, please go and learn how to cook Nigerian food, at least the basics. Tell him to send you to a 3-month boot camp, weekends only, in the house of a certified mama put (a lady whose expertise is Nigerian food). Practice, Practice, practice. Cooking Nigerian food is not rocket science and can be perfected once you have the desire to learn how to cook it.

At least learn how to cook the basics: regular stew (with or without assorted meat), pepper soup, egusi soup, jollof rice, fried rice, moin moin, fried plantain, pounded yam, eba, etc. A word, they say, is enough for the wise.

Let thunder strike you immediately wherever you are! you . what is wrong with being black like charcoal? If you see 100 Ghanaians, at least 80 will be very black. So what? Being black like charcoal is beautiful. How many light-skinned Kofis and Mensahs do you have? That is why your countryfolks picked a half-white girl to who tried to represent the USA to represent your country.

Instead of you to weep, you are directing your angst at me. I hope you get violated by a HIV patient. God punish you.

If you are not suffering from reading comprehension, you will understand that my issue is that the people who selected her to represent Ghana did so just because she is half-white, as she had not no strong ties w Ghana and had tried to represent the USA-- because she lost out on the USA spot, she used Ghana as her rebound country.
FashionRe: Miss Universe 2011: African Contestants by Princek12(m): 1:22pm On Aug 20, 2011
Ghanaian authorities and most likely its citizens have shown that they suffer from inferiority complex because they have picked their contestant because she is half-white and possesses no visible Ghanaian features. They probably think that in so doing it would give them a better shot at winning. Like Ghollywood movies, where actors who are half-white or lighter-skinned are preferred over non mixed or darker-skinned actors, and where they try to speak with fake American accents and make scenes that represent more of AA culture than Ghanaian culture, they have picked a contestant who is half-white and who has no strong ties with Ghana nor  has lived in Ghana over other contestants who embody more of Ghanaian features and experience.

Everyone and their mama knows that the average Ghanaian is black like charcoal and has striking features, and it would have done their country proud had they chosen a contestant who is an embodiment of Ghanaian physical attributes and culture. I am sure if Ghanaian authorities had their way, they would transform all their citizens to half-oyinbo.

This selection also highlights how dumb and silly many people in positions of power in Africa are. How can you choose a girl to represent your country at a Miss Universe pageant when that same girl had attempted to represent another country but lost? Had she won the Miss USA pageant she would not have competed in the Miss Ghana pageant and would have cared less about representing Ghana.

The rate of indecent dressing is increasing in Nigeria. The number of guys and gals showing off their underwear is becoming unbearable even inside the church. There should be a law that states that anyone seen in such appearance will be giving 24 strokes of cane by any policeman or military men that caught them. This I believe will reduce it. I know people will criticize this thread. grin
I guess some Nigerians like you are used to being treated like animals and deprived of their freedom to the extent that you are now askingthe government to treat you like an animal and take your freedom away.

Showing off a lil bit of underwear should not be punishable if it is not so extreme and outrageous and does not pass the boundaries of decency; and even if there were a law that bans showing off your underwear, why didn't you recommend imposing a fine as punishment rather than giving 24 strokes by military men.

You are an animal who belongs in the zoo.
