In what can only be described as shocking comments, Anzhi Makachkala forward Samuel Eto'o has told of how he fears for his life from the Cameroon Football Associaton. The comments come after the African legend spoke about his conflict with the Cameroonian Football Federation.

The former Barcelona man told Cameroonian magazine Je Wanda (via ESPN):

The leaders of the FCF want to attack my life, they want to kill me. I live with a group of gendarmes (military forces) and one sleeping in front of my door. I do this not out of snobbery, but for my own safety.

[The federation] have swindled our money long enough. Instead of managing football for the general interest, they are only concerned with fictitious missions, first class travels and untraceable bank accounts in Europe.

The last few years haven't proved too promising for Cameroonian football. In 2012, they were bundled out of AFCON qualifying by Cape Verde. Les Lions Indomptables have also slipped down six places in the most recent FIFA rankings to 67th.

Eto'o's comments come just a week after the investigation into world-wide football match-fixing was announced. Personally, his comments regarding money prove quite alarming, especially considering the extent Eto'o is alleging people will go to in order to cover their tracks.

Since his move to Anzhi in Russia, Eto'o ha somewhat fallen off the footballing radar. He is currently working to be fit for his side's clash against Hannover in the Europa League.

The Cameroonian International further labelled those involved with the federation to be "incompetent and corrupt."

I must stress these are only allegations made by Eto'o—serious ones at that. There has not yet been any response from the Cameroonian Football Association.

The Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC Mr. Fidel Pepple has described as untrue reports that the convoy of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke was involved in a deadly car crash which killed Mr. James Momoh, a staff of the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper in Abuja.

Mr. Pepple however confirmed that a shuttle vehicle belonging to the Corporation was involved in an accident which eventually led to the death of the Pilot Newspaper staff.

“I want to state categorically that the unfortunate event of last night has nothing to do with the convoy of the Honourable Minister as speculated.

The accident involved one of our shuttle buses which regrettably knocked down a pedestrian in the Mabushi area of Abuja and was immediately rushed to the NNPC Medical Centre for attention. But sadly the young man gave up the ghost,’’ he said.

The NNPC spokesman stated that the Minister’s convoy was not involved in the crash in any way noting that the vehicle in question is not part of the minister’s pilot vehicles.

He said the Management of the NNPC has taken steps to meet with the family of the deceased as well as the Management of Pilot Newspapers.

Protests outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo continued into Friday, after U.S. President Barack Obama issued what is being seen as a stern warning to Egypt that relations between the two countries will be shaped by "how they respond to this incident."

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama told Telemundo in an interview to be aired Thursday night. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident."

In the interview, recorded Wednesday, Obama said that if Egypt takes actions that "indicate they're not taking responsibilities, as all other countries do where we have embassies, I think that's going to be a real big problem."

youngies: The Federal Government, yesterday, said that the domestic economic performance has improved, to the extent that it is now ranking 39th among the leading economies in the world.

Inaugurating the Central Working Committee on the review of the implementation of the 1st National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the Vision 20-2020 in Abuja, the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, explained that the development showed clearly that the ongoing Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government, particularly its three-phased National Implementation Plan components, is achieving the desired results.

With the new ranking, the minister projected that the performance would get better if the ongoing GDP rebasing exercise is concluded.

The minister described the work of the committee as crucial to government’s efforts to reposition the nation’s economy as one of the biggest globally by 2020 and therefore assured them of necessary support that would help them accomplish their assignment.

Usman said: “What gets measured is done. By setting a target and measuring the progress that we are making we are more likely to achieve, not just sitting back. Like I used to say during the opening exercise, we may wake up by 2020 if we don’t do anything systematic and find out that we are now number 50 from 44.

“But from the way we are tracking and really pushing, we are already.

“I think, unfortunately the Statistician General is out of the country but is represented and I have not cross-checked with the latest GDP growth rate, but the last time I checked, we have actually climbed to about 39 from the 44 we have been.

“So you can see we are making progress there in terms of GDP Per Capital and we are going to make another big progress when the GDP rebasing figures come out.”

According to him, the first NIP, which commenced in 2010, is scheduled for completion next year and it provides a strong foundation for the implementation of subsequent plans in the next eight years.
