Christianity EtcRe: What Is The Point Of Christianity? by Ptolomeus(m): 10:31pm On Jul 20, 2012
In the 1st century there were many Christian groups fighting against each other for exercising the primacy.
It was Constantine in the fourth century, who appointed the official religion and Catholicism in the Council of Nicea, 325, organized the Catholic church.
Christianity EtcMormons Are Christians? by Ptolomeus(op): 10:24pm On Jul 20, 2012
In theory, the Mormons would be part of what are the Christian churches.
However, many doubt that his doctrine of Christ really.
For example:
# 1 God made himself with his own efforts
# 2 There are many gods that organize heaven and earth
# 3 The heavenly gods have wives with their children that multiply in the next world.
# 4 For God created man came into this world as Adam, celestial body, and brought one of his wives, Eve
# 5 Adam is our Father and God. The only God we have to deal
# 6 Above Adam is Jehovah, and on top of Jehovah, Elohim, which is the greatest of all gods.
# 7 The human soul exists even before the person is engendered. (at birth would be a veil that we forget our previous life with God)
# 8 The members of the black race are descendants of Cain and take upon himself the curse. Slavery is a divine institution.
# 9 Both the founder and his staff taught and practiced polygamy. Brigham Young, had at least 21 wives, Haber Kimball, 46.
# 10 The doctrine can be changed as dictated by the state. Hinckley, the current leader (2004) of the Mormons, explains the change in the doctrine of polygamy: "At the end of the 1880s, Congress (U.S.) spent several measures banning it.

When the Supreme Court declared these laws constitutional, the Church indicated its willingness to accede. I could not do otherwise in view of their basic education on the need to obey the law of the country. That was in 1890. Since then, church officials have not entered into plural marriages and members who have entered into these relationships have been excommunicated "

Ptolemeus, your posts on Nairaland are interesting to read and refreshing.
Thank you very much, dear friend!
Believe me it is difficult to translate everything! But I love to share, and meet nice people like you.

I insist that I do not understand Yoruba, but depending on the grammatical accent, we have:
Iye = number, price. cost
Iye = Memory, mind
Iye = life, living
The word "asé", it is difficult to translate, I personally associate it as vital energy, blessing ...
You may then have something like "I live, blessing, alive!, Or" being alive is a blessing "or something similar.
The Yoruba language is very descriptive and (I would say even poetic).
We should also address whether any of those words is a contraction, very typical of the Yoruba.
Please, if there is a Yoruba brother in the thread, give us help.
It is a daring me to try and translate Yoruba ...
But the spirit of the forum is to help each other right?
Thank you for your noble attitude and kindness

Christianity EtcRe: How To Worship The Nigerian God by Ptolomeus(m): 6:23pm On Jul 20, 2012
The "god of Nigeria" is not Nigerian. If is Arabic Jewish, call, if Jewish, call Javeh , European and if European call Jesus.
The Nigerian god is not of Nigeria.
The Nigerian god arrived with boxes of ammunition from Arab and European conquerors. The Nigerian god was with boxes that had the shackles to board the slave ships.
The Nigerian God (Allah, Javeh, Jesus), he was in Africa to bless us, and make Africa the continent with the highest infant mortality, the most underdeveloped continent, the continent with most HIV infected, the continent with worst health standard of the world...
Praise to our loving God!
Aleluiah, Shalom!
CultureRe: Yoruba Muslims Are So Nice by Ptolomeus(m): 6:07pm On Jul 20, 2012
I do not think our friend Omoge Yoruba, is defending Islam. He is telling us that there is a great religious tolerance, which allows traditional worship peacefully coexist with Islam or Christianity. That is something that many may seem strange, but it is possible in many countries.
I consider myself an admirer and student of Yoruba culture, however, I do not know nor am I interested in Islam.
I understand that there is also some truth in exposing the Ngodigha friend, when it comes to certain Islamic traditions, but that's not the fault of Yoruba Omoge, or the people, but of cultural penetration. The friend Yoruba Omoge, has never spoken out against the Yoruba traditions, on the contrary.
Often, we accuse religious fanatics on the forum ... we also do not end up in fans ...

Yeah, right. It exists, but is not common ... They are generally private cemeteries, with a high cost that only millionaires can afford.
It is strange that Christians choose that right?

CultureRe: Why Cultural Tribalism Is Good by Ptolomeus(m): 5:20pm On Jul 20, 2012
When I joined the forum, I knew the African phenomenon is very unique. I always imagined what it would resort to an ethnic group (any), forget the old historic feuds with other groups, but also overcome the divisions imposed by colonization, and also the consequences of the Berlin agreement.
It is very difficult for one ethnic group happens to be divided into four or more countries, along with other groups (enemies above) under the same flag. The reality of Africa is possibly the most complex in the world.
If we compare the persecution of Jews and Gypsies in World War II, understand that a Jew (though persecuted) remains faithful to Jewish traditions. The same applies to the gypsies. however, the settlers have taken great care to the blurring of identity in Africa.
When I see the discussions in different threads, about whether a clan or does not belong to a particular group ... I am constantly amazed on the great questions of identity that Africa has inherited. Alarmingly, rejection and the belligerence of some groups to others ...
however, I feel that all Africa has a common past, and should have a common future, overcoming minor differences and petty.
I hope I have not offended anyone.
My warm greetings to all!

Christianity EtcRe: Why Did Yoruba People Leave ELEDUMARE For The God Of Jesus And Allah? by Ptolomeus(m): 10:27pm On Jul 19, 2012
ROSSIKE: ^^^India far poorer than Africa, new study shows:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/india-far-poorer-than-africa-new-measure-shows/story-e6frg6so-1225891801078

In actual fact the poorest part of the world is South East Asia. So you can stick your dubious CNN and BBC propaganda claims where the sun don't shine.

Now back to the topic:

THE ONLY REASON - I REPEAT - THE ONLY REASON, Africans abandoned their religions en masse during colonial rule was that the continent's economic resources were diverted to those who converted to the colonialists' religion. In Nigeria for instance, in order to partake of the new colonial economy, one had to be educated in the schools established by the missionaries. In order to be admitted into those schools, you HAD to renounce your traditional religion and adopt christianity. You were not allowed by the colonial system to maintain yor traditional faith while being a part of the new dispensation. The new economy. Your traditional faith was denounced as heathen, and you shed it the minute you entered the colonialist's classroom. The average Yoruba was therefore left with a choice - Continue to worship your God, and remain in poverty and exclusion from the new economy, OR convert to christianity and partake of the new dispensation. Same deal applied across Igboland. The northerners were generally denied modern education and economic advancement owing to their refusal to renounce Islam, and we can see the results today - they remain the poorest, and most backward region of the country. (Their refusal to renounce Islam was due to the similarity in brainwashing techniques of that religion to christianity - claims to exclusive divinity, threats of hellfire, Allah's wrath, etc etc)

So that basically sums up what happened. Conversion to christianity was an ECONOMIC decision made by the people, based on colonial blackmail.

Thanks.
Right.
Very good intervention!

I think we say the same.
Blackmail colonialism, which still remains.

My respects.

Excuse me.
There is a practice that can be said to have fallen into disuse, and forever bury a person in one place.
Generally, the dead are buried, until the first reduction takes place (if I remember correctly, three years), then further reduction, which removed the remains in a small box.
That's the way of running the vast majority of cemeteries ... and so does not address all the territory of a country, in burying the dead.
My warm greetings to all!
CultureRe: Ask Pleep! Nairaland Resident History Expert! by Ptolomeus(m): 9:51pm On Jul 19, 2012
pleep: The Europeans were never able to completely annihilate the indigenous population in any land they colonized. Except perhaps in Tazmania, were almost every single native was killed. In the most extreame circumstances the colonizers actually made a point to physically kill any natives on sight, (Australians were hunted for sport) in addition to exposing them to diseases they had no immunity too.

But other than australaisa, there is no other place were the indigenous populations even came close to being wiped out. In Asia the populations were too large, well defeneded, and immune to old world diseases to be wiped out. As for the Africans, they were also immune to most European diseases (except flu) and the populations were too large and usefull to be completely annihilated. However, In the south of the continent, were euro style farming is possible, total extermination was attempted by the Germans in something called the 'Nambian Genocide'. This was a concentration camp style extermination designed to free up farmland for German settlers, part of a German policy called Lebensraum 'living space.'

The population decrease in North and South America was drastic because of the lack of immunity and the large populations. Tecnochitlan, the capital of the Aztecs, was the biggest city in the world at the time, 5 times larger than Rome. After the Spanish arrival the population decreased by millions. Nevertheless, the only indegenous populations that were able to be completly wiped out were the ones that were small in the first place, like the native peoples of Argentina and those in the extreame south of the continent. The aboriginals that remained were assimilated into the Europeans as mestizos.

When a population is exposed to a new disease a miniature evolution occurs. Even in pre-colonial south american there were a few people who were immune to smallpox, this is because of natural human mutations. When the disease was introcuded the people without this mutation died, while those few who were naturally immune survived and spread their genes. The disease itself then mutates, and those who were previously immune are not anymore. So eventually the South Americans were just as immune to smollpox as the Europeans, which is to say not very immune at all.
Dear friend Pleep.
I, like Uruguayan (South American) I applaud your exposure. Has been excellent.
Indeed, in general, South American Indians were not totally extinguished by the European invaders. The Indians were decimated, but they were not annihilated. The final annihilation of the Indians, usually due to post-independence wars, which the Indians were forced to fight, occupying the front rows.
In Uruguay, the last groups of Indians were scheduled to talk, and instead were ambushed and killed.
In Argentina, blacks and Indians topped the ranks in the war against Paraguay ...
It is important to note one transcendent fact.
the independence of the American countries, do not get the landowners (the Indians), but the descendants of European invaders themselves.
Much could be written about it.

I hope my comment helps.

A warm hug to all!
