Afam4eva: It's called politics. people will go to any length to get political power. As reckless as some of the statements sound, they can garner a lot of votes based on what they said. They have played on the emotions of the people.
Does it not belittle and demean the President to sit by and watch while such reckless statements were made?

It is noble that you admitted that the statements were reckless.

I would not have minded so much as a Nigerian if the President or any other national symbol was not there.

I would have also ignored it if such statements had been made by anonymous people on Nairaland.

But making such a statement in the presence of the President is a disrespect to that office. That the President let it go also speaks volume about him.

May God save Nigeria from the impending armageddon
Oh yes. A strong, intelligent and neutral personality would have publicly rebuked the owner of the hate and divisive statement.

If that type of statement was made in his presence and he said/did nothing (as the President) of Nigeria, it means he endorsed it.

Or could it be that he forgot that he is the President of ALL Nigerians?

I can't believe that a President that's worth to be called a President for all Nigerians sat there while someone said Ngige went to join the Awolowo people that killed the Igbos! shocked shocked

You mean a President that swore and promised to uphold the unity of Nigerians was present while this divisive and inciting statement was made?

This is a new one for Mr Jonathan Goodluck.

Italiano1: I dont really know why you or anyone is surprised at such an utterance by this imbecilic president. In the last Presidential chat, Jonathan publicly stated that corruption is not a problem in Nigeria and its effects are largely exaggerated.

Jonathan is an inept, daft and incompetent leader.
A man that blamed other countries for the massive and unprecedented oil theft in Nigeria.

A man that said he was 'weak' when he realized Babangida was interested in contesting for the President under PDP.

A man that consulted IBB for advice when he was the Deputy Governor.

A man that paid the pension of old, retired British colonialists.

A man that pardoned a convicted treasury looter and thief.

A man that absolved a terrorist, bomb-throwing group without any form of investigation.

A man that travels all over the place with large and bloated contingents.

A man that's shielding a Minister that has been indicted by the House of Reps.

A man who blames everybody except himself for everything that's wrong.

A man who promised to unite Nigeria but under whose tenure Nigeria has become most divided and clannish.

I agree with you that 'IBB is synonymous to corruption plus corruption and the result is CATASTROPHE' .

But what's your opinion on the statement made by President Jonathan when he described the same IBB as his father and role model?

https://www.nairaland.com/611080/jonathan-confesses-ibb-father-role

See excerpts below:

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday confessed that he became “very weak” when he thought he would contest the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida.

Jonathan, who made the confession during his presidential campaign in Minna, the Niger State capital, said he became weak because “General Babangida is like a father to me.”

“Babangida is like a father to me, even in my days as a deputy governor and later as governor of Bayelsa State, I used to consult him. So when it came to the option that I might contest with him, I was very weak, but God knows why and God interpreted it and we never contested the primary,” Jonathan said.

President Jonathan expressed gratitude to the former military president “for congratulating me when I emerged as the standard-bearer of the PDP at the end of the primary” and said General Babangida was absent at the rally on Wednesday because “he had to travel out of the country.”
Jonathan confirmed that IBB was like a father and role model to him. He also said that he consulted IBB from his days as a Bayelsa Deputy Governor.

If, according to you, Babangida stands for corruption, can we then say that President Jonathan has not been able to tackle corruption because the epitome of corruption is his role model and father?

You dont have to guess!

Everything and everybody APC touches, is "progressive"!

Which is why we are pleading with our Anambra people, pleaseeee, do not give our mandate to the APC!
These people are jobless opportunists looking for to reap where they did not sow!

Now that IBB is a "progressive", you will see how the Nigerian Media will celebrate him.
they will say the man has regretted his actions of the past, we should forgive him and give him a chance.
They can even now allow him to come the West to campaign, if he would campaign for the APC.
As far as I'm concerned, one thousand visits to Babangida by APC cannot whitewash his reputation who lost an opportunity to put Nigeria on a firm hold of democracy.

Babangida wasted our money, resources and time.

In fact, there was even a time FEC meetings were held fortnightly (ie every 2 weeks), b4 it was made weekly. Plus, a President can call for a FEC meeting ANYTIME he sees fit; like this very President did about 3months ago when he called for another FEC meeting on a Thursday afta d usual Wednesday's meeting held d previous day, in order to discuss d Mid-term Budget Strategy Paper...... PoliticsRe: Jonathan Abandons FEC Meeting For Anambra Campaign by Pukkah: 10:05am On Nov 14, 2013
Pk001: What is FEC meeting? Is he not the president?
He can call for a FEC meeting today if he wishes.

FEC meeting can be held even 3 times in a week.

Please stop this rubbish jounalism.
How is this rubbish journalism?

The FEC meeting did not hold because the President went to Anambra to campaign for the PDP candidate. Because of the same reason, he also shunned the Commonwealth meeting. In fact, he cancelled his trip to CHOGM to attend the rally. Does this make sense?

Is the President's presence for a party campaign more important than at the previously scheduled FEC meeting where important decisions concerning all Nigerians are usually made? Were there no urgent national issues to be discussed or decisions to be taken? Although there's no law that says the FEC must hold every Wednesday but we are talking about seriousness here.

With the level of underdevelopment in Nigeria, and the fact that all the country's peers have left her behind, shouldn't the President's sleeves be rolled up permanently as he goes full throttle to battle developmental issues? Given the state of the country, is there really any time to waste? If the President must be in Onitsha to campaign, must it be at the expense of the FEC meeting? Must he be in Onitsha on that day?

Vice President Sambo was in Anambra less than a week earlier. He led about 60 people to campaign for the PDP candidate. Then 5 days later, our President shunned an important meeting (except you're saying it's not important) and cancelled a CHOGM trip to be in Onitsha for campaigns. It would have been a different thing if he was in Anambra for developmental efforts. Is Nigeria a serious country at all?

The President could create time and attention for campaigns but he's not been able to create attention for corruption, oil theft, restructure of the federation, etc. So what happens after the campaigns, even if the candidate wins? How many of such governors has the President been able to influence to deliver sound governance? Or what's the essence of this whole charade?

You stated that the FEC meeting can hold at any time the President so wishes. But does that show good planning and order? Do you know how the meetings are run and organized? Does being the President mean that he should not be organized and should be taking knee jerk decisions? By the way, how many times has the FEC meeting held 3 times a week - in order to underscore urgency?

On another note, is it even fair on the other candidates in the Anambra election to have the President and his Vice leave or postpone state work and spend taxpayers' money to be present at the campaign of one of them? Are campaign expenses, direct and indirect, supposed to be incurred by the state?

I put it to you that the costs of the presence of the President at the campaign was borne by the Nigerian state. Is this fair? Don't tell me that this is how it has always been done because it does not make it right. Change must also start at some point.

I think a sitting President, regardless of his party, should be refrained from being physically present at party campaigns. A President is on the bill of all Nigerians/politicians and should not be seen to be given undue advantage to any party. Moreso, the President should also sit down and work. Nigeria, at this its low development stage, cannot afford a President that goes to state campaigns to utter shameful inanities like the number of Anambra indigenes that own private jets.

No! Not all. My wife tells me about her acting. Most times she even complains that some actors she acts love scenes with have mouth or body odour that she can’t wait to leave this scene. So I even pity her on what she has to go through and endure being an actress.
This acting thing is just some minute acts and that is it. Will she follow the actor home? Lots of homes have been broken because of too pressure on the wife or even the kids.
Good to hear about the complaints on those with mouth or body odour. How about those with no odour or with good fragrance? Has she ever mentioned this?

I think there's a better way to address users, posters or forumers. Seeming high-handed or appearing haughty is not the way to go except you're looking at the forum as being here only for a while. Your style does not fit into a long-term strategy of a forum or organization that's interested in being around for a long time.

For example, I don't think any stakeholder would address his customers, users, patrons, shareholders, audience, spectators, admirers, fans, etc this way and expect most of them to stay with him. The strength of a forum is in the number of its active users which it should strive to retain and grow.

I don't see how the style in the above quoted posts can grow the forum or retain the active users.

I admit that some people could be very difficult and hard-headed but you can be very firm without coming across as authoritarian, arrogant or uncaring.

This is just a piece of advice.

As usual, it is the people that suffer and bear the brunt.

I wonder how much of Enugu state's funds have gone into acquiring several Kia Picanto cars, booking of hotels & guest houses and spending on the notorious Sullivan Babes all in a bid to feed the insatiable libido of the Governor.

There are funds that could have been judiciously used on projects that could impact on the people.

The way the Governor has conducted himself is irritating and shameful. The story is all over Enugu. It looks like he went into the Government House with a huge inferiority complex or a deep psychological problem.

To think that some people even mooted (on this forum) the idea that Chime could become a Presidential hopeful.

Only God knows how many more of his type are in government. Little wonder the country is the way it is.

You're obfuscating the issues. I also stated in my earlier post that introducing distractions (e.g. the poster's mastery of English or Fasola's SAN or Tinubu's Chicago) won't help your case.

The guy's request is quite simple. He would love to see the earlier work of his President. How's that a big deal for God's sake?

By the way, no one is saying having a PhD is a criterion (not criteria) for being a good President. They're asking to see his earlier work because he's their President and he claims to have a PhD.

The request is very simple and presumably innocent and there's no point to introduce complications, diversions and distractions.

Why should I even be surprised? It is confusion or a total lack of understanding that would make someone 'rudely' refer to God as a jealous being.

God is above all such notions and emotions of jealously, anger, hatred, selective judgement, faith test, etc.
