taharqa: Will you keep quiet and stop asking me silly questns... I bliv that Govt shld fund Research and Development, as well as maybe Specific interventions, in Every institution of higher learning, for more than 10yrs subject to the limit of Govt's available funds of course. It has always been my belief, and has nothing to do with this particular Anambra case (I do not even know what Gov Obi intended d donated Fund to be used for sef). Even while condemning dat aspect of d ASUU Agreement few weeks ago that forced d FG to practicali take over d funding of State Univs, I made a clear exception to funding specific to Research or other Interventions (for instance, I hv always supported TETFund's interventions in State Univs)... Even in d US like I previously said, Harvard and many of those Great Univs you hear about are Private Schools, yet Govt (tru various Agencies and Special Funds like NASA, Navy, Airforce, Cancer Fund, Nanotechnology Fund, etc) is one of d highest, if not d highest in sm fields, contributor to Research and Development in many of those Univs and others in the country. Lets not allow Sillly Sentiments or Crowd mentality blind us abeg. You may want to question what area and why Gov Obi intended in releasing these interventions/donations (I do too) but don't questn the very essence of Govt's funding of (or, even nonfinancial assistance to) Universities, Public or Private, only just cos sm of them are 'Private Businesses'. Knowledge is Universal Your stupidity is only exceeded by your idiocy! I asked very simple questions in a civil manner and you started running your mouth like a locally fabricated generator. Did you just escape from a sanatorium? Do you think you're talking to one of your fellow bought IDs that have lost every sense of independent and logical reasoning? The useless, directionless and disjointed post you put up there is a shame to the Nigerian educational system and a bigger shame to your employer. That post (just like the poster) lacks direction and every line of it reeks of foolishness, ignorance and stupidity. You would have stayed away from this thread if your IQ figure was higher than the number of fingers on your two hands. In that case, you would not have effortlessly exposed your boundless ignorance and Level 1 foolishness. Now run out of this thread and never return with your moronic way of reasoning and being rude to your superiors! 6 Likes |

taharqa: There is NOTHING wrong in Govt Supporting Private Univs as long as it is geared towards such fields as Research and Development. Knowledge is neither Private nor Public; it is Universal. Most of d top Schools in d USA for instance are Private, and yet they receive huge Govt Support/Interventions... Kindly direct me to where Peter Obi said the donations are to support specific R and D or other noble initiatives. Also note that this is not a grant or other forms of non-cash support. Again, what's the stage of development of the state or country that wants to give out cash to private businesses? Does this action make sense in capitalism? Why should government use public capital to strengthen private businesses? This is the reason given by Obi: Pukkah: You may also provide references of this type of model in those 'Most of d top Schools in d USA' which you stated that they receive 'huge support' from the government. 2 Likes |

Olugbenger: Tolexander: It doesn't really make sense, goverment donating to the private universities and institutions. This is why I strongly suspect money laundering. Some of the money may go back to Obi after his tenure. The donations don't just make any sense. As a start, the 'real' ownership of the universities should be investigated. By the way, were those sums appropriated or approved by the House? Nigeria is just a mystery. You have poor citizens and poor infrastructure all over the place and yet a Governor is doling out N200million to private companies! |

Slizbeat: Infact, it should be included in the constitution that all Ex officials should be investigated and probed at the end of their tenure. This sounds good. The tenure of all political office holders (with expense budgets) should be compulsorily probed after leaving. At this point in time in Nigeria where corruption has been enthroned, the savings from such a move will outweigh the costs. But, it's the same corruption that will prevent our lawmakers from legislating such. |

Sincere Bigot: Apga cannot win a 'Councillor' position in southwest.. What an extremely tenuous and divisive argument. Ask yourself why APGA can't win elections in the South West, North West, North East, North Central and even the South South. It's not even in the whole of South East that APGA can win elections. Just ask yourself. 1 Like |

Sibrah: The private unis too need support no doubt about that but i think he could have provide good roads and maybe improve on waterworks structure supplying the community where such school are situated . Precisely. In which case, the roads or waterworks would become government assets. Government could also make money from such assets - e.g. water rates or road tax. |

How is this different from government making donations or giving free money or free buses to ABC Transport or GTBank or Obasanjo Farms or XZ Private Hospital because they transport/bank/sell farm produce/treat Anambra children? These donations are questionable and should be condemned before our ever ingenuous politicians begin to make direct transfers to private companies and businesses. The stakeholders in the state should also press for a return of the money to the government coffers. 2 Likes |

Is it proper for governments to donate cash to private companies? Is this not like giving part of the resources of the people (or tax payers' money) to private businesses? Is the reason given by the Governor (that the schools train Anambra children) good enough? Why can't the Governor continue to build and support the state-owned institutions? Would those Anambra children pay cheaper fees in those private universities or continue to pay the high fees that all private universities charge? Does it not amount a misplacement of priorities for a state that cannot boast of adequate supply of drinking water to the people to be funding private businesses? Why give outright donations rather than loans or grants or investment or concessionary rates for tax and levies? I think that some day, this bogus and needless donation will be investigated and the Governor may not come out clean. 31 Likes |
Education / Governor Obi Donates N200m To Private Universities by Pukkah: 10:40am On Nov 25, 2013 |
AWKA—TWO private universities in Anambra State, the Madonna University, Okija and Paul University, Awka weekend received N100 million each from Governor Peter Obi as part of the state government’s on-going intervention in tertiary institutions in the state. Similarly, Governor Obi gave N30 million to St. John’s Technical College, Neni to enable the college improve infrastructure. Obi recently began the intervention in tertiary education in the state with a grant of N5 billion to the state –owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University for infrastructural development during which he promised that private universities in the state would also be supported. The governor said during his visits to the two private universities that the intervention was necessary because as institutions in Anambra State, they were training the children of the state. Obi also donated two vehicles to each of the universities. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/obi-doles-n200m-paul-madonna-varsities/ |

You guys have made no attempt to discuss or debate the winning entries or journalists (editorials, photographs, and reports). Some of the entries/journalists also won awards outside Nigeria (in South Africa and the UK). Rather than tell us if there were better entries or journalists in the same period, you concluded that the awards were influenced by politicians. Were those foreign awards also influenced by Tinubu? Did you read of the said editorials? Is this how Nigeria would make progress? 1025: I strongly disagree with this. There are dishonest people in Nigeria but not it is not true that every Nigerian is a criminal. I will give you very simple examples. 1. The other day, a chap put up a thread that he returned the sum of N800k that was wrongly credited into his bank account. https://www.nairaland.com/1506269/owner-n800000-collected-money-rewarded 2. Another person also asked for a similar advice in a previous thread. https://www.nairaland.com/449399/unexpected-money-account-what-bills 3. A review of the comments on those two threads would show you that not all Nigerians are crooks. Many of them advised the persons involved to return the money. 4. The percentage of armed robbers in Nigeria, as a percentage of our huge population, is very very low. 5. How many times have you heard of Nigerians driving off petrol stations without paying after their tanks must have been filled? I can go on and on. I am not happy with the low level of development in Nigeria but it is not true to say that all Nigerians are dishonest. |

I told someone the other day that Nigerians have lost interest in Nigeria. One of the many signs is that you can hardly find genuine protesters these days. Crowds are rented with money and protesters (both pro and anti) are bought, except in extreme and rare circumstances. The disappointing and shameful practice of allegedly buying protesters and crowds as it applies to Ngige/APC has previously applied to protesters in favour of Stella Odua and protesters against Rotimi Amaechi. https://www.nairaland.com/1499185/enugu-pro-oduah-protesters-got-n4000 https://www.nairaland.com/1361953/anti-amaechi-protesters-port-harcourt-airport-yesterday The practice of renting mercenaries is also very much here on Nairaland. You don't need a soothsayer to know the bought monikers and Pay Per Post (PPP) posters. What we don't know is who is best paid among the APC women protesters, pro-Stella Odua protesters and the Nairaland PPP posters. Nigeria! 2 Likes |

The facts on ground continue to portray the election as a charade. Clearly, the election was thoroughly messed up. Most of the allegations are not difficult to investigate or ascertain. It is an lection that can't stand the scrutiny of a court and would be easily cancelled. By the way, where did these protesters come from? Oyo, Kwara or Katsina state? Over to you Mr Peter Obi The Bigot. He's an expert sorting of protesters based on their state of origin. I also wonder why Mr Obi 'The Achiever' is struggling so hard to convince people to vote for his party's candidate and stooge after an 'excellent performance' for 8 years? Should it be this hard if people were convinced of his performance and excited about Obiano? 1 Like |

theoctopus: 1. Peter Obi deported non-indigenes in 2009. Fasola and himself are both guilty of that as well as the Akwa Ibom Governor. 2. He was the only Governor that tribalized the deportation that he was also guilty of. 3. When his state budget was reviewed and criticized, rather than address the ISSUES, he said it was an insult on Igbo race. Note that none of the other Governors whose state budgets were reviewed tribalized the issue. 4. Following El Rufai's house arrest or restriction of movement, he said ‘As an APGA Chieftain, I won’t go to Katsina'. What does this needless statement mean? 5. On this thread, he said the protesters are not Igbo people. Does it mean there are no non-Igbos in Anambra? Does it mean only Igbos can protest in Anambra? Does it mean voters who voted for other candidates or the thousands that were truly disenfranchised aren't Igbos or can't protest? 6. He said the protesters came from Osun. Does it mean all the people who graced Ngige's campaigns and rallies came from Osun? Why call Osun? Can he point out the Osun people in the video? 7. Radio stations in Anambra before the elections portrayed APGA as an Igbo party and the APC as a Yoruba party. Other innuendoes that fuelled disaffection were added. 8. Some people that were arrested were said to have come from Osun. Note Osun again! They've since been identified by INEC as observers. I'm not really ready for back and forth mudslinging but honestly, Obi has not handled many of the issues very well. 4 Likes |

EBK2: Gani Fawehinmi started going to detention for the masses in 1969. He was a loud critic of the government and a strong figure on the side of the masses. He would later be criticized for staying aloof from politics and real governance. He floated a political party and later contested. You would expect that such a person would win with a landslide. Alas, the same people he had fought for for many years voted for their oppressors and the elite. Many of the people surprisingly dismissed Gani with a wave of the hand; they claimed they didn't vote for him because he would not win anyway. Others said that he should limit himself to activism. Such is the type of system that is in our country. |

jp philips: Rather than address the issues that I raised, you furiously jumped into the fray and started throwing insults. Is it not a misplacement of priority for a state that cannot boast of adequate drinking water to lavish 58 brand new cars on whoever? Did the beneficiaries lack cars or the money to buy the cars or the access to car purchase facility from banks? Does that not widen the income inequality in the same state where some people less than 2 months ago attempted to jump inside a raging fire? Is it part of the entitlement of the Directors? Does it make sense for Anambra or any state in Nigeria to be buying cars when there are still very poor people in the state? Which government organ gave Volkswagen Beetle to NYSC platoon leaders? Answer this. In my analysis, I have also ignored the suspicious timing of the cars. I have refrained from replying your insult because to the glory of God, I am no where near poverty. 1 Like |
