@Pumping
On Oando.
I would like to request that you kindly repost the strategic plan presentation. I saw 1 or 2 of their presentations in the past and I always admire them for their intellectual rigour. My view is that Oando is a far better company than AP in terms of strategic vision and quality of management (education, experience/exposure). They started pursuing diversification in O&G well before now. They would ahve got the Port Harcourt Refinery but for bad belle. I will very much like to read from them again.
See if you can access it via the link below.

@pumping.

Do you have any info on Eans Medical? and(or) AFPRINT?
Nothing new on these companies as far as I can tell.

Afrprint has not released any result since around 2004 and I am yet to see any good result from Evans Medical in the last one year. The profits have been dipping.

We all need to be careful of this "low nominal price" syndrome. It will wreck havoc in the portfolio of many folks this year when the bears come with a vengeance.

As an example, see the woeful Q-3 result announced by Academy Press today and yet the stock price rose from N5.42 to N8.28 this year alone. PAT dropped from N49M to N16M. What is that?

I'm no prophet of doom but just to ask folks to be careful. It is very risky to jump into the ship of a stock that has risen say 50% consistently in a number of weeks if you don't know the reason for the rise.

@easimoni - I no say na u dey fly the plane. Make u do us jeje o grin

The projection is tough since the Q-2 is a turnaround quarter. It is very possible that the last 2 quarters will do much better. I will stay conservative sha and project FY PAT of N1.03 based on N0.516B from Q-2.  This gives us a forward PE of around 38x which more than doubles that of Dangote Sugar and Flour Mills.

Frankly, I expect the full year PAT to be like N1.5B. This should be enough for the stock price to head  north. Timing is a real problem though. If Q-3 is not released, then FY result is still some time away and could be as late as August. huh

WEMA's problem is more political. It is a matter of people trying to feed fat on WEMA. Some are planning to buy WEMA for peanuts. Delaying the PO was part of plans to make WEMA handicapped. Almsot all the banks have recapitalised except WEMA and some other struggling ones. In this current scenario, anything with less than $1bn shareholders fund is insufficient

Your WEMA will turn good but next time, make una shine eye well well.

Congrats on your returned money and certificate for Access, did you write your CSCS number on your application form, if yes why are they issuing certificates? I understand from my broker that Wema Registrars will post less than 50k units applicants with or without letter of authority for collection. Can you help confirm any of these?
I'm also surprised I ended up with certificates. My broker did it so I expect he would have inserted my CSCS number.

I got more than 50K units but what I don't know is if it was posted to my broker or if my broker went to the registrar to pick up.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not seen the official allotment in the papers, so how come u have got your allocation.

And again (if its not confidential), could u give me an idea of the no of units u bought for u to have got 70% (I applied for 140k, what will my allotment be?)

All,

I posted the Access Allotment list a month or two ago. I can't find it right now.

With 140K units, you will get 63% with the supplementary allotment.

My broker just confirmed that my certificates don land.

These your obsession with this Obama dey tire person. The man get mouth but no be mouth go run economy! I remember how some people fell for Obasanjo in 1999. He had just come from jail after being a head of state and all that. He turned out to be a man with short memory of the suffering of people. Last year, they told us that Yaradua and Dr Goodluck Jonathan are intellectuals. They promised to declare an emergency in the power sector. Everybody cheered.

They assumed office in June. We are now in Feb and they are saying that they cannot declare the emergency untill they review what had been done and have set up a committee for that purpose. Yet these are intellectuals from the same party with Obasanjo. Na Loma's magician's type of candle I dey take see as I dey post this one.

@Pumping 777

I need your Guru opinion,my man.I see you are online.

Do you consider that the governments directive that all banks unify FY-ending for December 2008,will undermine CICO with ZENITH for example?
Zenith normally would end FY in June with its usual promise of good dividend, hence price surge as investors take early position;hence good for CICO.

But now, they may look towards December sad sad sad.

Same for UBA,First bank and the like.

What do you think,Pumping. . . . ?
Yes, I think this will worry them. We have seen that the interim results have not done the magic and this is because of the relative high nominal price for these stocks. A full year result might just be what is needed to give the necessary momentum.

The 3 bank stocks don't look like good CICO candidates right now. I managed CICO with First Bank but I think that I just rode on the 1 trillion naira mark capitalization run.

Mr. Risky:
Pumping, AKT,

My heart de beat for spreadsheet profit ooo.  Tomorrow is Friday, so what sayest thou on AIICOhuhhuh   Use torch, candle, anything please grin cheesy
It's a hard call. You have to let go of your greed at some point. The spreadsheet profit can disappear fast fast if you are in short term.

I've stopped looking at the spread sheet profit or na quick quick I go call my broker. I figure I must hold on to a couple of insurance stocks medium term at least and the safest one is Aiico for now so no selling. If the price crosses N8, I may reconsider sha.

Funny thing, it still has a lower forward PE ratio than most insurance stocks IF if they can deliver on the projected PAT in the prospectus for FY 2008 but that is still a long way off. That is a big IF because the Q-1 result was no good. N42M after Tax!!!

Any attempt to move down in price, I go wait collect some more.  Another good thing is that Aiico owes us Q-2, Q-3 and FY results so some stimulation is still possible.

@aktopgun, pumping777, you know what has been strenghtening this my bid-offer war perspective, look at Longman today. There was up to 1.8 millon units exchanged in about 33 deals, this stock has been relatively scarce before.

What I think happened today was that supply went up (in reaction to recent price increases) but demand met it equally, so we can say this is an eqillibrium. As we can see, the price didnt change at 29.91.

But tomorrow, a decline may occur as more panicked sellers will try to offload at todays closing price, then buyers will bid lower. How do you guys like this angle?
I think you will need to see tomorrows price movement to detect any trend. It can swing either way.

Look at another scenario. Some buyers may have fashied the stock because of the bull and are waiting for it to slow down. They may hit the market tomorrow and spike the price again.

Your scenario above is also very possible. So tomorrows' movement will help detect a possible trend.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 9:46pm On Feb 21, 2008
invisible!:
I get what you guys mean, but sometimes the way I read this is that supply for this share is increasing in reaction to increased prices, so deals has increased. As more increase happens, more sellers will join the selling line and bam! oversupply. which will make buyers to run or at best offer lower prices, then prices will reduce.

The reverse are cases where very low no of deals is attributable to unavailability, which causes a bull run on that stock.

I might be wrong you know.
The case you have described above should really be an exception.

When prices rise, the interest of sellers become stimulated and buyers start shying away. If sellers put in so much in the market which is mopped up to the point that sellers are now at liberty to increase the price, it means there is still very healthy demand for the stock.

When sellers flood market, the price should fall to entice buyers.

Look at it another way. There are fools in the market sure but when many buyers are willing so pay extra to buy extra-ordinary large volumes, some of the buyers may know something is up wink This is what I call "insider" signal grin

I am liking the performance of Ikeja hotels in the past few days, although it had gained nearly full points for three days running, I still think it will experience turbulence in the nearest future.

Look at the very large no of share traded today, about 28 mil. units and 168 deals. Prices may slow down tomorrow.
Hmm. I've always thought large volume with price increase is a bullish trend.

BTW, you no wan make the stock rest? Make e just dey move till e go reach N100? grin grin grin

Anyway, any stock wey rise must meet turbulence except Aiico grin grin

If you CAN once TS is  lifted, go for it. The stock has been permanently on net offer while on TS. Expect a dip in price after TS but it will probably stabilize around N11-N12.

One scenario though. They have a few interim results outstanding. If they can release something fantastic before TS is lifted then there is some hope.

Public Notice Circular from SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has observed with great concern, the recent wave of private placements by some private companies.
These companies are offering their shares to raise money from unsuspecting members of the public.

The public is hereby notified that the securities of the wholly private companies are not registered with the Commission, as private companies are by law outside the regulatory purview of SEC.

However, any company that has membership in excess of 50 persons is by law a public company and therefore required to comply with the requirements of the Commission in terms of making offers to the public.

In doing so, Public Limited Companies (PLCs) not listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and which do not plan to seek listing on the Stock Exchange must clearly state on the placement memorandum that the shares are not for listing on the Stock Exchange.

Members of the public who buy shares of private companies that are neither registered by the Commission nor listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) are therefore doing so at their own risk.

The SEC is committed to effectively regulate and develop the Nigerian Capital Market and make it investor friendly.

SEGUNKADRI:
I Learnt a Trick form the Stock Market by buying Less of the IPOs (Initial Public Offer) and Trading more on the Secondary Market. It has it merit and demerit, thus it's better and works fine for me . I have some questions for both Primary Market and Secondary Market after which i would wait for response .
Q1. How long does it take to get a IPO Certificate?
Q2. After receiving the IPO's Certificate can you sell immediately?
Q3. What are you after buying a company's shares ?
With the questions you have asked below, you cannot know yet if this system works for you or not.

Anyway, make I answer Teacher my homework  grin

Q1. No fixed time. It can be anything from 3 months to 1 year or even longer. A date is normally set in the prospectus but this is never met. Add at least 3 months to that date.

Q2. No, you cannot sell. You have to verify the certificates with the registrar. This can take more than 3 months or even more.

Q3. You become an ordinary shareholder. I don't mean ordinary in the context of status but just to distinguish it from a preferential shareholder.

Shikena. I hope say I pass  grin grin
