HR Manager (HRM) and Finance Manager (FM): Controversial issue on payroll management.

There has been recent controversial issue between HRM and FM on who to manage payroll process for a newly established organization. Below is the discussion among CEO, FM and HRM.

CEO: As we all aware that this is the first management meeting of this newly established company. Please HRM share update on staff matters with management team.

HRM: Thank you CEO. We have successfully recruited 15 staff and I am working on their payroll for this month. Immediately I'm done, I would bring it to your table for final approval before forwarding to Finance Manager for payment.

FM: Please HRM, we need to get it right from inception especially on payroll management. If I may ask, I have few questions on your submission.

HRM: Please go-ahead FM.

FM: Please are you aware about latest Finance Act, 2020 which gives ways to new computation of Personal Income Tax (PIT) popularly called PAYE? Also, are you the one to be responsible for annual returns and tax audit with IRS. Finally, other parameters of payroll such pension, NHF, ITF and NSITF should be adequately managed to avoid fine and penalty.

HRM: Kindly note that payroll has to do with staff matter and anything that falls within this category, it is solely handled by HR. Also, on all your questions, we would take cognizance of it and revert if there is any clarification.

FM: Alright but you also need to take note of staff IOUs and advances that might have been posted into various staff accounts on SAP.

HRM: If you want to handle that responsibility, I might shift it to you for proper management as you claimed.

CEO: No at this moment, I intentionally allowed you guys to justify your positions. However, kindly do more consultation with various professionals in different industries and revert in the next meeting.

Please share your view on who to manage payroll.

Last Friday, I hugged one of my most impressive colleagues goodbye. He turned away, sobbing. I turned away with voice quaking, realizing what a big loss he would be.

Later that evening, I had another get-together with a second friend who relocates this week. While discussing his massive expense, he suddenly slouched in his chair, stressfully squeezed the empty ragolis bottle in his hands and concluded:

"Oremi, this relocation has cost me almost everything"
"You don’t want to know!" He further sighed "You don’t."

Today, with the help and data from three (3) relocating friends, I compile the rough cost (below) for prospective relocating families (focus on UK) and a poem for my friend and Nigeria:

Cost of Japa from Nigeria for a family of 4= 180k

Official rate 22k
Accelerated rate 45k
Some pay as high as 75k

Usually, one parent is a student
30-45k for school runs

4.5m most schools want 50% deposit

Total Cost 19m for family of four to UK not Canada or US. It can be cheaper or more

Waow, that was how he approved mortgage for staff? How could the bank have survived then? The fact that ladies that became pregnant within 6 months of engagement were fired was an unfortunate policy. You just succeeded in exposing the bank's the policies and practices, that other professionals may find challenging.

After carefully reading, I will advise you go with B reasons are as follows
1. As mentioned here, tech is the new oil
2. A partnership with Google or Microsoft is not a piece of cake meaning there's prospect
3. With the benefits you have stated with both firms, I will choose B, because of future purpose
4. Company A could be a consultant for the government and as you know government is broke and always broke, even if they have private clients, think tomorrow and not government

Crusader Sterling Pensions. Bunch of people sitting on billions worth of people’s pensions but have no clue. Poor staff welfare, over 40 staff have resigned this year alone. Management encourages unhealthy competition among staff.

New MD is just a stooge of the former MD but without the charm. Very rudimentary man in matters of leadership and administration. Could take years before a staff is confirmed even though it should ideally be after 6 months.

An epitome of a toxic work environment. If you have your pension there I suggest you move to a better pfa as they have no clue what they are doing there.

And they keep running advert in TV and radio. Most valuable pensioner (MVP)
