Christianity Etc › Re: Tithes And Offerings Are Eternal Principles by rabzy:
As long as the church exists in its present form, tithing will never cease because it caters to the greed and desires of the taker and the giver.
The pastors wants to continue their ostentatious larger-than-life and celebrity lifestyle so tithing and continous offering will never cease,
The givers also wants ten fold of what they give, so while they give one-ten to God they want ten times of that back. That is why they always want to sow, sow into their pastors life. They don't sow into poor widows and orphans lives or even the struggling man next door but unto their pastor who they believe can help them get ten times back from God.

Its a syndicate and everyone involved are hypocrites.

Will you keep giving even if God does not give u back.

The poor widow was a giver and she kept on giving even when she was not getting the money back from God. Of course she has Gods blessings but evidence shows it was not in cash.

KKK was a racist organization, they never said they were doing it for God, neither did they say they would be rewarded in heaven for killing. Ayatullah: *We crawl out of better and honourable background than you are.
*The 9/11 incident shows that America can be invaded, have you forgotten that an American Author called those who brought down the Twin Tower 'THE PERFECT SOLDIERS'?
*Why is America killing innocent old women, men and children in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and other Muslim nations?
*Are the Yorubas complaining to you that they are not grateful to the Great Uthman Dan Fodio for bringing Islam to save them from Sango, Ogun, Obatala etc worship? Their life is far better with Islam.
*You must be a dullard not to know the hatred of North Korea towards America and a Caveman bereft of information thou art for not knowing how Vietnam and Cuba detest America.
I have said you people need more brain power and less fanatical passion. If 9/11 was your idea of an invasion, then you need a lot of help or probably beyond, 9/11 was just senseless cowardly murder.
What am asking you to tell your terrorist friends is that they should fight their fight more honorably, declare a war on US and fight conventional instead of killing women and children in their sleep. If bokoharam hates western education why are they blowing up people in motor parks, why are they slaughtering people in markets.
Why do the islamic idiotic terrorists want to kill everybody because of America.
You mentioned that the cubans and koreans hate America, Yes, I never said they don't, the question I asked you is that, why has the Cubans, the mexicans whose country was stolen by america, the vietcongs not come to your fathers village and blow up all of you because they hate america.
Why are your brothers killing everybody all over the place because of america. You think you liberated the yorubas with islam, go and check, the places in yorubaland where islam has the strongest roots are the most backward in the west. The north which is the birthplace of islam in nigeria is the cesspool of this country, so spare the liberation bullshit.
Even the nurses that are suppose to help them fight the diseases, are being murdered by your brothers, all of these in the name of hating the west. There is a demon in you people that has blinded you totally. I don't have time for mega idiots. If you don't know who to fight, and you are hitting at shadows then you have already lost. Did the lord's resistance army which was fighting muslim enemies in the sudan come to osogbo or kano and blow up market women.
Its easy for many even those who say they are moderate moslems to carry placards, throw stones and burn American flags when israel does kills muslims how many have gone to carry placards in front of the syrian or egytian embassys now despite the countless thousands that have been killed by these regimes. How many protests were done when saddam was on his killing spree, invaded kuwait and iran and unleash horror on his countrymen, how many iraqi flags were burnt and how many embassies were stoned. At least it is on record that many americans protested against many of the wars led by their governments. How many protests were done by the islamdom against their goverments when they wage atrocious wars against their fellow muslims. You need to be careful, Its a thin line between an ayatollah and an hirekiller.

Ayatullah: Indeed Islam does not condone the killing of the innocent, it should also be made loud and clear that America has no right to keep slaughtering innocent Muslims through invasion of Muslim countries and senseless drone attacks. The day America mind her own business and does not place homosexual rights above Muslim rights the world will be on the path to peaceful living again. Meanwhile America has made some Muslims lose their senses through her wickedness, hence this type of massacre in Kenya.
I wonder where people like you crawl out, whether islam is a religion of peac or not, comments like these show why its easy to turn a muslim to a terrorist. So if America invaded muslim countries why don't you all join forces and invade america, why r ur cousins and friends blowing up pple who has never heard of America in their life, people who are just going about their daily lives, who know nothing about american politics or policy.

The sokoto caliphate invaded yorubaland and till date controls some a huge area of yorubaland, how many yorubas have gone to blow up mullahs in the north.

America invaded korea, vietnam, cuba, dominican republic, grenada etc, why are these people not coming to revenge against america in ur fathers viLage and blowing up ur mother and father on their way from work.
An idiot drew a cartoon of mohammed and some imbecilic bastards started killing us in the north. The cases are endless, why don't ur coward friends fight the real enemy instead of killing old women and children.

Through one man sin entered into the world and death thru sin, and thus death spread to ALL men because they have all sinned.

The Adamic sin has made all us all imperfect and when God sent Adam and invariably his children out of the garden into a way of life that is hard and prone to accidents, it means nobody will be shielded totally from these things.

While God can perform miracles and help in escaping some tragedies, it does not mean he is always obligated to do so.
The first righteous man was Abel, he died a very violent death. That is why the hope of resurrection has been set before all thru xtians so that nothing can separate us from Gods love

Sarassin: Of the 27 books of the NT only 8 can be ascribed to their declared authors. The 7 undisputed letters of Paul and the revelation of John, though he does not claim to be any particular John. The deutero-Pauline documents are obviously not the work of Paul neither are the pastoral epistles, 2 Peter is an obvious forgery by a writer who has tried to pass himself off as Simon Peter. The synoptics are just as bad, they are not written by any of the named authors, worse, not one of them actually knew Jesus or even knew anyone who knew him, naturally the four gospel writers do not agree on anything other than the fact that Jesus was crucified, the devil is well and truly in the detail. The NT is riddled with forgeries and historical inconsistencies as to render it pretty useless other than as exceptional prose. Modern revised versions of the NT with their subtle redactions, omissions and re-interpretations have merely compounded the problems. Further, the Old testament is a thousand fold worse.

Christianity Etc › Re: Pastor J Reacts To Pastor Biodun's Sex Scandal by rabzy: 1:16pm On Aug 31, 2013
Christendom can never rid itself from all these because it derailed hundreds of years ago. The moment the church created a division in the body of christ creating the clergy and the laity, then avenues for all types of excesses plus hero-worship was institutionalized.

It reminds me what God told samuel when the people of israel demanded for king, God said they have rejected him and that samuel should anoint a king for them.

But look at what God said about his anointed king ' your sons he will take and put them as his in his chariots and among his horsemen and some will have to run before his chariots, some will do his harvesting and do his plowing and reap his harvest, your daughters he will take for ointment mixers and cooks and bakers, your fields and farms the best ones he will take and your flocks and asses he will take and you yourselves will become his servants and you will cry on that day for asking a king for yourselves and I WILL NOT ANSWER YOU.
All the anointed kings of israel did this and so will the 'anointed' pastors. Just like as the creation of kingship was at the instance of the israelites and not Gods doing but he only allowed them their wishes with the subsequent negative consequences so also is the elevation of one believer over another.

Jesus said all you are brothers but the day some brothers became 'more equal than others' was a sad day and a bad day for all christendom.

As a christian you are obligated to correct erring ones, to show the way according to the scriptures, to correct, to reprimand, to discipline in love. Nobody is exempted from correcting neither is anyone above correction.

If we all leave matters in Gods hands, nobody is watching out for anyone, nobody is being cautioned nor disciplined, then we would run the risk of amassing sins with impunity, and that would be eternal destruction.
Christianity Etc › Re: ‘Touch Not My Anointed’ by rabzy: 7:38pm On Aug 27, 2013
2 Tim 3v16,17 says all scripture is breathed of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness so that the man of God may be fully competent, thoroughly furnished for all good works

But these 'MOG' unlike all the men of God in the bible such as david, aaron, samuel, peter don't want any reproof nor discipline. The scriptures says it is he who God loves he disciplines, so if they keep resenting discipline that planely shows they are no 'MOGs'.

smajatt: i don't care whether its true or false, all i know is that what seems hidden to us today would all be revealed on the judgement day before every single soul..even if you have repented,an account of all our lives would be played right before the angels, everybody and the entire heavens. so no need to argue maybe its true or not, just hold on to what you believe. BTW who is holy and who is not,the bible says our holiness is like a filthy rag before God..if you are in a church and you discover some things thats not biblical why not leave the church and go somewhere else,or have you been enchanted? and if you have committed a sin either as the op stated or any other type ask for forgiveness,go to real men of God,seek guidance, counsel and pray..
king David did worse than what the op states, but God said he his the man after his own heart those are pretty heavy words from God almighty Himself, the question is this, the bible never stated that Uriah wife started broadcasting to the whole nation of Israel. The bible says the gift of God are without repentance, who so ever mounts the pulpit and claims to be a man of God,is already a servant of God and you as a member as no right to raise an accussing finger at such a person, if God indeed is the owner of the church and anything associating itself with the name of Jesus Christ, then let God fight for Himself. The children of prophet Eli where molesting the girls in the house of the God,infact having sex right in front of the church, the bible never stated that the children of Israel started raising accusations against Prophet Eli,God did the fighting by Himself.
like my pastor do say, every man has a measure of grace God extends to each person, some people abort only ones and they die while some abort more than 10 times and they are still alive....the very day some people tend to commit a sin is the very day nemesis would catch up with them..please @op for you to be able to write this means Gods grace is still enough for you, what if you had die the very moment you committed that sin, please don't miss use it by busying slamming a man of either God or devil "live him to God to handle,if he doesn't repent"..just ask God for forgiveness for your own error and live a Godly life.

PS:even i writing this,am a sinner, all i keep asking God is for His mercy and Grace to be able to live a righteous life, and to make heaven evn if no one would make it,i must get there.
What kind of xtianity do people practice these days, you have allowed the aura of 'MOG' to so overwhelm you that you can't even condemn what is wrong. So if a so called 'pastor' comes to my house and steal, I should not accuse him because he is a pastor. A lot of u have allowed the pastors to be ur all in all and not God.
The law of moses stipulated what should have been done to the sons of Eli, but their father shielded them and for that the whole family perished. The nation of israel also suffered because God allowed them to be soundly defeated and many israelite soldiers were killed, so maybe they should have demanded for the right thing to be done.
God said David was a man after his own heart because he was a very righteous man and when he made mistakes, he immediately accepts his fault, confess and seek forgiveness. When you read psalms you will see how bad david felt about his sins and how he cried for forgiveness and he wrote all these down as psalms which the whole nation would read and which we still read about today. So don't compare his actions with those who conceal their sins and whose anointing are not authenticated.

pekelepekele: @OP I believe the pastor is 100% right . If you check the bible very well you will notice that their was only two Saul mentioned in the bible .

The first was a king in the old testament and he ended up his life in a devilish way which made God turned his back against him.

The second was a Saul in the new testament that always attack the Christians and even murder them , When God(Jesus) appeared to him at Damascus .

He didn't only become a change person but God changed his name to Paul . Meaning God didn't like the later name anymore.

Name is very important and it means a lot of things , since it was once mentioned in the bible that ariel city was cursed , I believe anything that has that name also bears the curse .

If you think am wrong please don't swallow me with abuses just share your own opinion.
While a name might inspire someone to imitate the person he was named after, but what you said about names here are wrong.

God did not change saul's name to paul, rather paul preached and lived mostly amongst latin/greek speaking people and that is why he preferred to be known as paul, which was a roman name. There is no indication in the scriptures that the name was cursed. Saul in hebrew means to 'asked of God' while paul means 'little.

Abel is a fine name given to a lot of boys, but it means futility or vanity, Abednego was a righteous hebrew boy, but he was given the name abednego by nebuchadnezzar which means 'son of nebo'. Nebo was a babylonian god. No one is cursed by bearing a particular name, we can be whoever we choose to be regardless of the name we bear.

The most unbelievable part of the reference work you quoted was tha part that said the story of Jonah was didactic parable. That is absolutely nonsense. Jonah was no parable it was a real story of a real prophet. Jonah the son of amittai was no parable, he was a real prophet who served as a prophet to the ten tribe kingdom of israel, his prophesy came true as written in 2kings 14v25, how dare this person write such. It shows he has buried himself researching so much rubbish without even checking out the Bible.
In fact when d lord Jesus was asked to give a sign that he is the son of God, he said there is no sign for them but the sign of Jonah. He said just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for 3 days so the son of man of man would ne in the heart of the earth. Jesus said the men of nineveh who repented on account of Jonahs preaching would rise up and condemn the pple of his generation, because they did not believe someone greater than Jonah I.e Jesus himself matt. 12v12-41 and 16v4. Do you think he was using a parable, a fictitious character in all these serious discussion.
The person that wrote that write-up is totally unbelieveable.

The reference work itself said two of those books were full of inaccuracies but said so is the book of Daniel 1v1. Those books are not alone full of inaccuracies, they were full of practices totally condemned by the real scriptures.

The book of daniel quoted was no inaccuracy, it is those who don't read enough of the Bible that calls it an inaccuracy. Daniel said Nebuchadnezzar came to Jerusalem$ in the third year of Jehoiakim, while Jeremiah said it fourth year of Jehoaiakim was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar.
What critics don't read is that pharoah necho was the one that crowned Jehoaiakim as king 3 yrs b4 Nebuchadnezar became king. In the fourth year of his reign he came to Jerusalem and made Jehoaikim a vassal king to him. Jeremiah was aprophet in Jerusalem and to him Jehoiakim was a king since when Necho crowned him.
Daniel on the other hand was a jew in exile in babylon and he counted the reign of Jehoaikim from the year he became a vassal king to Nebuchadnezar. It was no inaccuracy but lack of Bible scolarship from these critics.

So we do not have to speculate on what Jesus thought about the matter. Jesus a palestinian jew mentioned the sections of the OT as known by the palestinian jews to the palestinian jews.

Josephus in refuting what some pple were saying that the jews have uncountable number of books said they have just 22 books and he mentioned them and these comprise the 39 books of the OT.

Your reference work also mentioned that the apostles quoted from the septuagint, which is correct but it neglected to mention that they never quoted from any books of the apocrYphal, they never quoted the apocryphals rejected by the church and neither did they quote from those 7 the church accepted.
Then the septuagint that are available which contains the apocryphal are not the originals, how do we know that the apocryphal was included in the original septuagint. The apocryphal septuagint had been tampered with because the tetragramaton YHWH were removed whereas in an older septuagint which was in pieces and fragments, the YhWH were there. The apocryphal septuagint available did not date to 2 bce when the septuagint was actually written.

spongebuny: read and be educated!!!

If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person's share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. Revelation 22:19

All Christians - Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant - agree that the Books in the Bible are the inspired, written Word of God but disagree on which Books belong in the Bible. Specifically we do not agree on the Old Testament (OT) canon - the list of Books inspired by God. The Catholic OT Canon includes - Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, I and II Maccabees - plus sections of Esther and Daniel which are absent from the Protestant OT. Protestant Christians do not accept these Writings as inspired by God and refer to them as the "Apocrypha".

Sometimes this problem is used to defame the Catholic Church. As an example, John Ankerberg and John Weldon in their book, The Facts on Roman Catholicism, write:

Catholicism teaches that Scripture involves more than the canon accepted by the Jews, Jesus and the Church of the first four centuries, i.e., the 39 books of the Protestant Old Testament. [A&W, p.33]

Allegedly the Catholic Church added to the OT that Jesus used.

Now it may be true that Protestants share the same OT canon as Jews today; however, the situation was a little different during the time of Jesus. The Jews before the 2nd century A.D. did not appear to have a rigidly defined OT canon. In the words of James King West, a Protestant Bible scholar:

The Scriptures of Judaism were not, therefore, a precisely defined body of literature absolutely set apart from all other literature, but a central body of material, the Torah (i.e. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deut.), which from the time of Ezra had remained fixed as... the Scriptures par excellence, surrounded by other interpretive material of varying degrees of importance and authority. [S&W, p. OT 432]

By the time of Christ, all Jews accepted the five Books of Moses - the Torah - as Scripture; however, Books, like Esther and Ecclesiastes, were debated. From the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Jews at Qumran apparently read and copied Tobit, The Letter of Jeremiah (Baruch 6) and Sirach as Scripture, while Esther is missing from the scrolls. [JBC, pp. 522 & 565] Unfortunately we can only speculate on what Jesus thought on this issue. No where in the New Testament (NT) does Jesus or His Apostles present a complete list of the OT Books or even discuss this issue.

Before the 2nd century, most Palestian Jews preferred a canon loosely similar to the Protestant OT; however, the Greek-speaking Jews preferred the larger canon found in the Greek Septuagint Bible - a 2nd-century B.C. Greek translation of the Hebrew Scripture. It was the "Bible" for the Greek-speaking Jews. When the Apostles began to evangelize the Greek-speaking Jews and Gentiles, they used the already established Septuagint as their Bible. Using the Hebrew Scripture would have been as effective as using a Russian Bible to evangelize Americans. The Septuagint served to bridge the culture gap. Quickly the Greek-speaking converts outnumbered the Hebrew Christians. Scholars also recognize that the NT writers quoted extensively from the Septuagint, e.g. Matt. 1:23. The Septuagint became the OT of the early Church. [S&W, p. OT 433]

Only after the destruction of the Temple and debates with Christians, the Pharisees at Jamnia finally limited the Hebrew Canon in the 2nd century A.D. - a century after the Resurrection of Christ. They restricted the Hebrew Canon to Books written before 400 B.C. in Hebrew. They also rejected the Septuagint claiming it to be corrupted by the Christians. [S&W, p. OT 433]

In the mid-2nd century, St. Justin Martyr in his Dialogue With Trypho commented on the difference between the Christian OT and the Hebrew Canon. Tertullian during this period also commented on this difference. [JBC, p. 523] These comments and concerns would have been inappropriate, if the early Christians and Jews shared the same OT canon.

The OT of the most ancient surviving Christian Bible manuscripts - Codex Vaticanus (4th century), Codex Sinaiticus (4th century) and Codex Alexandrinus (5th century) - are Greek Septuagint text. Apart from holes and missing pages, the Codex Vaticanus contains all the Books of the Catholic OT, except I and II Maccabees. The Codex Sinaiticus only lacks II Maccabees but also includes IV Maccabees. The Codex Alexandrinus contains all of the Catholic OT Books plus III and IV Maccabees. These manuscripts show that the Septuagint with its larger and looser canon was the OT "Bible" of the early Church.

In the 4th century, some Church fathers, especially those who debated with the Jews, like Jerome, favored the shorter Hebrew Canon. Some Church fathers like Ambrose and Augustine favored the larger canon of the Septuagint. Others like Gregory Nazianzen also excluded Esther from the Bible [JBC, p. 522]. Jerome while favoring the shorter canon, several times in his writings cited Books from the larger canon as Scripture. [S&W, p. OT 434] The Councils of Hippo and Carthage in the late-4th century were the first real attempts by the Church to end the confusion over the OT canon. The OT canon which they proclaimed is still found in Catholic Bibles today. The controversy continued but in 1441 the Council of Florence upheld this larger canon. In response to the Protestants, the Council of Trent definitively upheld the larger OT canon. [S&W, pp. OT 434-435; JBC, p. 517]

Now the Catholic Church is not alone in accepting the Books which Protestants label as "Apocrypha." The Coptic, Greek and Russian Orthodox churches also recognize these Books as inspired by God. In 1950 an edition of the OT containing all these Books was officially approved by the Holy Synod of the Greek church. Also the Russian Orthodox church in 1956 published a Russian Bible in Moscow which contained these Books. [JBC, p. 524] More details from a scholarly Protestant viewpoint can be found in The New Oxford Annotated Bible (Oxford, 1977).

Some Christians attempt to discredit these Books by pointing out apparent historical errors contained in them. [A&W, p. 33] It is common knowledge among scholars that Tobit and Judith contain obvious historical inaccuracies; however, these Books are recognized as didactic parables, like Jonah. It is also common knowledge among scholars that Daniel suffers from similar glaring historical inaccuracies, e.g. Daniel 1:1. [S&W, p. OT 419] Some scholars have suggested that both Daniel and Judith may actually be a disguised historical account of Antiochus Epiphanes [S&W, p. OT 462].

Other Christians may point to the immoral deceit of Judith in Judith 9:10-13 in an attempt to discredit this Book. [A&W, p. 33] Unfortunately the OT contains other less than edifying practices, for example: the deceit of Jacob in Genesis 27, incest in Genesis 19:32 and inhumanity in Psalm 137:9. Also in Hosea 1:2, God commands the prophet Hosea to marry a woman who would commit adultery. These OT events simply show the need for Jesus Christ. Finally we cannot use human reason alone to judge the Word of God.

In conclusion the Catholic Church did not add to the OT. The Catholic OT Canon (also the numbering of the Psalms) came from the ancient Greek Septuagint Bible. Protestants, following the tradition of the Pharisaic Jews, accept the shorter Hebrew Canon, even though the Jews also reject the NT Books. The main problem is that the Bible does not define itself. No where in the Sacred Writings are the divinely inspired Books listed completely. (The Table of Contents is the publishing editor's words, like the footnotes.) The Bible needs a visible, external authority guided by the Holy Spirit to define both the OT and NT Canons. This authority is the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. As St. Augustine writes, "I would not have believed the Gospel had not the authority of the Church moved me." [Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, 15th ed.,
This is a nice write-up but I beg to disagree with a number of points raised here. Let me first state that the apocryphal books are much more than 7, the catholic church rejected all the rest and then settled on accepting just 7, while the jews and the 'protestants' rejected all.

First the torah had longed been fixed before ezra, that is the five books of moses, part of the instruction given by god to the leaders and kings of israel was that they must read the book of the law and take care to obey it, josh 1v8. When josiah became king, the original copy was lost but was found by hilkiah the priest on hearing the words Josiah tore his shirt. So the five books of moses was well-accepted and known or catalogued loooong before ezra, what ezra and nehemiah catalogued were the remaining parts of the OT that were written after moses.
By the time of Jesus, mind you, Jesus was a palestinian jew, the diasporan jews who have been exposed to hellenization and platonism have been exposed to different writings which thay accepted but were rejected by the descendants of the jews who returned with ezra and nehemiah, these were the palestinian jews.

These scriptures were in three parts, the law, the prophets and the writings and they comprise the 39 bks of the OT. Jesus christ commented on it in luke 24v44, he said all the things written about him in the law of moses, the prophets and the psalms. This was the 3 parts the OT was divided into and they comprised 39 bks to dem. Remember Jesus was a palestinian jew and he was talking to palestinian jews. The apostles mentioned mentioned 'public reading of the law and prophets' 'the scriptures' and the 'holy writings'. Definitely they were referring to a finite number of books already compiled and known by such designations and not to an innumerable number of uncountable writings by unknown authors in the diaspora.

You asked me a question which I answered, it does not warrant insults, am finding it hard not to insult u but I will console myself in your utter ignorance of what you are talking about.

Oga where did you hear that it was the catholic church that compiled the Bible. That's quite laughable when before Jesus was born, the old testament which is about 65% of the Bible had already been compiled.

And long before the church councils more than 95% of the the new testament had been compiled.

ogugua88: I always laugh when this issue is discussed. The kind of excuses pesin go hear. "Nature calls". "Tissue is unhygienic". "Check the bible. Did they use toilet?" Na wa.
The Nigerian society is still mixed, we are between the middle ages and the 21st century. When the amenities of 21st century is not available, then you do ur nature call in nature. When ua in the farm, you don't come home to relieve urself or when ua hunting, u don't get to come home. All cultures have always used nature to relive demselves. If am pressed and I can't get a public facility, sometimes I enter a house and tell dem I nid to do it and on the two occasions I had to do so, I was allowed. On several occasions the bush has sufficed, I only make sure I won't be exposing myself to anyone.

PAPA AFRICA: oh Phuck no, im sorry if it seemed that way, i really am. sad i just like thorough info. i post alot of these things in an african history thread on another forum.
bokohalal: I did not bother to reply him/her. I checked out his/her posts on this thread and subjectively concluded that PAPABROWNE is a Benin Empire History skeptic.
Well I don't mind skeptics so far they are objective and also not abusive. As to the polished and shining floors, the practice is so prevalent it would be utter foolishness to disbelive it. I used to scrub my grannies kitchen in d village.
