J0hnTrevolt:
Hello ma! My Toyota avalon 03. It was having loss of power when I was driving then all of a sudden the car started to jerk, then sound of exhaust changed when I fire.
I took it to a panel beater he said the problem is not from the muffler. He loosened my catalytic converter exhaust manifold and the one right under it to check if something blocked the cats luckily the cats were free and the catalysts intact. He coupled the exhaust back and tolde to start the engine and I did. The exhaust was still blowing. He went under and checked and came out to say the exhaust were turning red. That they are blocked that he has to take it to a welder to cut open and remove things inside. I became afraid that this might lead to my car to start consuming fuel so i told him to fix everything back and drove away with my car. When I start my car the heat that comes out of the manifold is too much.
Please Ma what should I do? I'm not so buoyant to buy a new cat at the moment.
One more thing. If you checked the sparks and coils and they were fine, check your oxygen sensor.

Sorry Boss, I didn't know it rained last night too till I drove out this morning. But my area never bad reach your side... grin

Meanwhile guys, here's my challenge. So my car engine (COROLLA 2006) got too bad about last month and I opted for changing it as against "ringing". Finally gathered the money to buy it this week.

However, one of my major challenges then apart from the 'usual' oil shortening, smoking and noise it was making was that if the car is parked anything more than 30minutes, I can't just start the car and drive away immediately. Once I start the car, it starts JERKING slightly after about 30seconds, then after like 5minutes it 'BALANCES' then I can drive away. If I try loading before the 5minutes elapses or before it balances, the car goes off and then I start the process again.

The thing is, I thought if the engine is changed the issue would be resolved but I thought wrong. The issue still persists, minus the noise and smoking. They tried scanning but the codes coming were P0016, 0300, 0310 (can't remember exactly).

Please if there's anyone with experience handling this, kindly assist.

Truth is : for every car model in this planet, if you look hard enough you'll find sites with negative consumer complaints to screenshot, doesn't prove anything.

It will be fine if we left the dick measuring contests though and concentrate on the cars that brought us here
I agree. Back to the original question that led us here due to overzealous reactions, IF you were to get a Ford edge, would you get the first edition?

It has become a dick measuring contest, soon might turn to how far can your pee go contest.

None of these distraction will give meaningful content to other users trying to educate themselves about cars.

This is the thread for Fords and three are others for other brands.

Takata airbags affected a lot of brands.
If Ford use transmission from Aisin that is partly owned by Toyota, and Jaguars, Toyota has transmission from the same supplier how do you claim for is bad?

I think we should stick to the possibilities of what can go wrong with a ford model and the cost of correcting such things.
I agree but I didn't start it. Do you agree that if you're going to get a Ford edge you shouldn't get the first edition? Because that was the genesis of all this.

One thing I know and have come to realize is this.
An average Nigerian don’t like saying things the way it is. They package things and make it look less critical that it is.
1. When they see blunt Pple, they are quick to say things like; no respect, insult and bad mouthing, running pple down etc.
2. we don’t read to understand the intention of the writer. Rather than ask for clarifications and be sure of our understanding of the writeup, we respond based on the assumed meaning
3. there is this thing about the opposite sex. Men no Dey like make women Dey question their competence o
4. Lastly, u speak from Factory settings point of view which we r not used to (Automobile authority). We are used to bypass as far as it works (Even when it does not last).

Lastly, I hope I understand ur request by my explanation above cheesy
Yes, yes you do. Thank you.

Ikenna351:
You do realise you contradicted yourself. If you knew all Brands/cars have their pros and cons (positives and negatives), how come you didn't point out the positives of the Edge he indicated interest in? Instead you condemned the car completely with the long "No". An expert on the Ford brand will point out the positives and negatives concerning the Edge model the person is interested in and let the perosn decides if he/she is comfortable with the negatives and excited with the positives or simply walk away from the car for something else. You didn't give him that chance to make his choice and decision from options he is to be made aware of.

The thing with Japanese fans is they see nothing wrong with their brands yet always eager to jump in and condemn other brands. You claimed there were a lot of recalls on the car, what about the thousands or millions of Japanese brands/cars they recall yearly. You forgot to mention that as well? So if it's safe for people to buy the frequent recalled Japanese cars, why is it a problem to buy recalled Ford vehicles? Why singling out Ford only as if the Asian brands are saint in this matter you raised?

This idea of reliability when it comes to cars is stuppid to me, because its subjective. Hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign used (tokunbo) Japanese engines and automatic gearboxes are brought into Apo markets here in Abuja weekly. Yet, they are sold off within a week or so and another hundred or thousand batch are brought in the coming or subsequent weeks. Who are buying off these Japanese engines and automatic gearboxes from the sellers? Do people purchased and replaced a perfectly working engines and automatic gearboxes with used ones if they didn't fail? Yet these people would tell you there cars are so reliable even though they probably have replaced the engines, auto gearboxes or both twice, including everyone around them.

I know some Toyota Camry users that carry spare engine oil in their booths daily for top up. They top up their engine oils weekly more than they top up fuel tank, yet they only see problems with other brands and not theirs staring them back on their faces up and close.

If you are all for Japanese cars, there is nothing wrong with that. But understand that no matter how good you think they are, some people will prefer something different. Not every man wants to live by other people choice. I for one is a living example.

radautoworks:
I agree with you 100% if you want to get a lot of features for cheap, ford is your brand. ... I have owned only ford excursion, expedition and many E350s that we even exported to Nigeria because I know them from experience to be durable even if gas mileage SUCKS. The expedition for me is borderline but the excursion and the E350s are the best Fords.
radautoworks:
No doubt they load them with features on the cheap but fit and finish and quality is just not there. .
radautoworks:
They make some NICE looking cars but when it comes to reliability they get crushed. Again, I said for the MODEL he asked for, a resounding NO. it's a money pit.

EDIT: I should add that when it comes to the big engines (V8 and up) and DIESEL, ford is ahead of the game. Their F350 trucks and E series vans are workhorses and will last forever as long as you do routine maintenance.
NO PROS YOU SAY... WHAT'S THAT ABOVE? Also, where did I say anything about japanese cars? For that matter, where did I say ALL Fords?

NO NO NO NO . I will not let you diplomatically slip out of this. Now you are telling me that pros and con apply to all vehicle's brand, where as you have been adamantly condemning ford to be inferior to other brands right from the beginning of this contest now you are trying to group them together systematically , i won't let you slip out of it easily .You have to give me and all ford lovers a concrete conviction why ford is inferior to other brands you have already told the whole world that even in american workshops ford are bread and butter and scrap cheap, so you can't go back on your own word's.

2) Am I posting in greek because some of the responses I get seem to suggest I'm speaking a different language huh

3) am I imagining a gender bias in some responses?

Dude. Take a chill pill. You fix Ford. Fine. Every brands has its pros and cons. Like I pointed out above, the Ford edge is popular for a reason. My point is don't tell people it's all roses when it is not. If you truly care about people, you will tell them both the good AND the bad so they will know what they are getting into. And this applies to ALL brands not just Ford.

However you need capital and international contact for this kind of business, something an assistant will likely not have.
He has all amdman's contacts and strategy. All he needs is to demand upfront payment. To everyone who said "just hire an assistant", If you've ever owned a business you will know especially in this kind of setup, that is the beginning of the end. For quality control, he needs to handle it all himself until he can hire multiple people as checks and balances against each other. Even then they may still collude but if he's lucky like we've been, as long as some are good and loyal, the rest will watch their step.
