Chelseafan1: Ma, please we need to talk. U mean I can buy the same 1.4 engine and it won't affect my Car's AC, like it's gonna work fine.
I need to also know how much everything would cost me. I'm saying the problem with loss of power is most likely not your engine size. But you'll never find out unless you stop asking to change your engine size. You keep asking about engine replacements, guess what? Mechanics will sell you one even if you don't need it. Your problem was that you wanted to renovate your car correct? Let the technician tell you what it will take. I told you before. Take it to a shop, be tell them the problems your car is giving you, let THEM diagnose a solution and give you an estimate. What you'rere doing right now is running around with a neon sign yelling "take my money!" |

MotoMedics: Anty. You keep mentioning warranty. And 6 months. Customers don't want to eat warranty o. They want a hassle free car forever. After 6 months, to your tent ho Isreal.
This table you have come to shake, no be today o. And yes, there is shortage of technical expertise in the Nigerian automotive space. I like your zeal to pull this through, and make the desired change. But are u sure you are not just pushing to sell parts (bloated) with a warranty tag.
I am sure glen does supervisory work, and does not carry out all repairs. You must have hired techies, not reformed kazeems that understand standard process.
In the interest of customers, they deserve the best, and options should be given to them. But I can toast anybody to do my bidding, they believe we know better. This your set up only encourages part sales and warranty onyibo to tie any fella down and not real repairs per say(I swear I want to be wrong).
Time. Time. Time. Let's give radautoworks time. Glen won't fix all cars. Time. Time.
The Nigerian automotive space needs a lot of training for its techies. And you coming over is a positive, and to champion a movement that will shape this landscape. 6 months in this case. Our warranties range from 3-12 months. I think I mentioned somewhere that if a job like this does three months, it will go years. I've addressed the parts on another thread. People are not obligated to buy parts from us and we've actually recommended two or three other parts sellers on Nairaland. I'm not sure how it will benefit us to sell but not do proper repairs. The parts will keep coming back and bankrupt us! Glen supervises and trains. He won't fix most cars. We hire only techs and not mechanics which is why we currently only have three despite dozens of applications. We will add three more on by the end of the year if we find some that meet our criteria. All three can do rebuilds, etc but require training with updated tools to varying degrees. E.g. using our parts clean machine instead of petrol to clean parts, using our disc turning/skimming machine, transmission and engine oil flush machines, alignment machine, tire changer and balancer etc. Believe it or not, most of our repairs so far have required more labor than parts so it's really not about the parts with us. It's about quality work and as you said, time will tell. |

obekediamondfuto: please, what does the warranty cover?
total engine failure from. any internal part or just failure due to rebuilt /swapped parts?
just curious tho
cos the way u changed it for us in this post speaks volumes oh... I love your healthy skepticism. Warranties are based on what we do. 100% coverage for this car on parts and labor related to this repair. E.g. if it turns out we should have replaced Pistons, it's covered. It really is hassle-free. |

Izognok: Honestly, why are you doing this to Nigeria? Why not focus on the intent of this thread? Are you planning to overstay when you get there? Why ask for people who did such foolish act? Your intent in this thread is questionable.
Guy, you can make it nicely. When you travel to the US and return, you have better chances of making it. What you need to do is scout for opportunities when you are there. It is a land of opportunities. No doubt, it is. You always have a return ticket with visiting visa; therefore, do not over stay. Return home and re-strategize if you spot an opportunity while under visiting visa.
Believe me, the US loves Nigerians. They know we are very intelligent. They like many things about us. Take advantage of that.
Our accent, our native attires, our Nigerian necklaces, our very bold ways of responding to situations, and our charisma are what they love about us. Leverage on these things.
I can give you tips on how to go about things legally and intelligently. You can make it. No need to announce "working codedly" publicly under a visa type that makes it illegal. Foreigners read nairaland every blessed day.
On this thread, there are 2 or 3 people who you should send PMs to for advice. If you read through very well, you can easily spot them.
Be good. If you must ask because of desperation, please, do it with the person privately and stop embarrassing us on public forums like this. We have our reputation to protect. Thanks!
Keep to the intent of this thread.
#NaijaForLife Applause for you sir. |

DelTel: The buyer called to inform me she has low tyre. I didn't understand the description & requested she sends a pic (image 1).
I advised she visits a fuel station with lube Mart to have the tyres gauged and fixed with instruction to the technician the recommended PSI is 32 each (as on door slab).
She drove into a French multinational integrated oil and gas company beside Grand Square old tollgate around Alausa, Lagos with instruction to the 'technician' about the 32 recommended tyre PSI. Technician fixed tyres confirming he inflated 32 PSI. Alas vehicle display changed to 50 PSI.
She calls me again and I advised she goes back to where she fixed it but she informed me it will be difficult for her as she already on the expressway approaching Ogudu so I advised she stops at nearest fuel station to have the tyre guaged.
To cut story short, 6 other stations and road-side vulcanizers all guages the tyres and brings up 6 different PSI as against what the vehicle is displaying.
Finally, she said a young vulcanizer guaged each tyre and gave the exact PSI as indicated on the EVIC, she then told him to increase and decrease the PSI to 32 where necessary (image 2).
So much fake product and/or incompetent technicians in Naija.
Suffice to note that a large percentage of vehicles on naija roads have wrong and over-inflated tyre pressure on them.
What can be done to reverse this dangerous situation?

antagonist: i have to say, you come across as condescending
we understand that there are ways of doing things that you're used to, you have your own habits and methods which have worked for you in the past in a totally different environment with different norms and a different culture
don't assume that those exact methods would work for you in the same way in a totally different environment, "Standard" is very relative
someone mentioned this earlier, I'll do so again, this now-personal back and forth has totally derailed the constructive discussion that I think was supposed to be the point of this thread
you've made your point, gazzuzz you've made yours. the mature thing here would be for both of you to put an end to this degenerating situation, especially because I have the distinct feeling that there's more to this than just professional rivalry I'm not sure why you feel I'm being condescending. Let's be fair here. Each time I have ended with to each his own, he has decided to continue trying to drag our repairs. I go to sleep, I wake up, another of my posts is under the microscope and bring misrepresented. Conversation continues. I am not the condescending one here. Look back at everything that's been said. It's gone on for SEVEN pages of a repair I shared that he tried to shred. Have I tried to denigrate any of his work? That particular statement, he tried to say we didn't know what belonged in the car while neglecting to accurately quote our post. If you saw the original post, your will see why I responded that way. Plus he's been at this "out of context" thing since yesterday and I will not be misquoted. I wonder about this professional thing myself because from day one I've said we just want the entire car repair environment to change. I have received a few pot shots which I've ignored because of this goal. Take a look at the links below and then tell me who seems to have a problem here. This has been a consistent theme. https://www.nairaland.com/4672565/how-much-should-expect-pay#70358455Was looking for the link to our original repair post he referenced but I can't find it. Even in this thread I've said to let it lie multiple times but no. |

At this point, I'm sure people are starting to wonder why you are desperately hell-bent at nit-picking at the jobs we have been doing. Digging up VINs (which by the way led you to incorrect assumptions), poring through pictures we willingly gave, trying to ascribe symptoms to vehicles that never existed... I think we all know the answer. I'll keep posting work we are doing and you can keep going over it with a microscope to see what you can find fault with. You may get lucky and find something. Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 4:20pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
GAZZUZZ: There you Go with assumptions. Why do you feel we don't repair engines?
we do all the time IF we weigh the options and feel client will get a better deal LONGTERM.
You had to shut down major engine and transmission repairs for one month because the Boss will be unavailable, now imagine what happens when you have 30 of those jobs thrown at you in 1 day.
Certain jobs will require a Full rebuild (sludge related jobs and thrown rods)
Some will just require a new piston (hydrolock), some will just require a new camshaft (BMW)
Not every engine should be scrapped. But when the wrong engine is in the car already what do you do?
I felt it's time I did some assuming of my own since you've been doing so much and even you admitted earlier that it's your knee jerk response to most which is why you suggested it sight unseen to the customer we talked about earlier.
We chose to shut major repairs down for one month because we have stringent requirements of our techs which take longer than the three months we've been open to instill. Had he needed to travel a year from now, it wouldn't have been a problem because the culture would be set. As it is, we have great techs but they still have some habits and methods used here we do not approve of. E.g. Wanting to run to Ladipo to find engines as the initial thought because it's easier. The rest of your statement has been our point all along so thank you? |
Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 4:12pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
To the house, I want to reiterate one thing. WE ARE NOT ANTI-REPLACE. We are anti-rampant and irresponsible replace with the conditions in Nigeria. We replaced all the time in the USA if it was best for the customer and this was one of our approved suppliers for engines and transmissions http://www.lkqcorp.com/en-us/They provided us both used and REMAN engines but have VERY tight quality control and provided warranties even on the used (equivalent to tokunbo) engines and transmissions. I'm sure quite a few of our diaspora enthusiasts are familiar with them. All repairs for us are based on what we feel will benefit the customer in the long term not what is convenient or more comfortable for us. |
Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 4:00pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
GAZZUZZ: We are looking out for the client long term, 1 branch, 1 quality control manager, this method works for us too.
for this engine client will get 1year warranty and I will sleep well at night.
Engine will live a good life. Then offer the customer both options. Let them pick. And your quality control is limited as far as you luck upon a good engine in your estimation. Ours isn't. Fact of the matter is once we do a repair/rebuild, if three months go by without incident, it's going years. |

very healthy debates, this is what we expect on Cartalk.
As a patriotic Nigerian I would Buy Nigeria to grow nigeria. Not a personal choice but a company choice. Remember, we are a franchise. It is all about quality control and consistency. |

GAZZUZZ: a tokumbor 09 camry will enter naija at Between 100,000-160,000miles and we will clap for the car dealer.
This is a maximum of 40,000 miles and oil was changed regularly based on the innards of the engine. Which you really get to inspect after you buy it and take it apart. I think you keep forgetting that we are a franchise and part of that means only using approved channels for parts. I told you in the past that if a customer wanted to us to use their parts, it's not a problem but they would have no warranty. I'm not sure why having such stringent quality control is an issue for you. With us opening 10 stores across the country that will back each other's warranty, you really think Milex is going to let each store run amok getting parts wherever they so please? When you find an engine supplier that can consistently prove preference of his engines and pass Milex's supplier requirements and quality control while providing warranties, we'll be more than happy to consider that supplier being added to the approved list.I've said it many times, use what you want, will use what we want. Over time, we'll see what happens |

case study is a toyota camry 2003 with a 1az-fe engine stamped to look like a 2az-fe engine in the bay.
The vehicle mileage is 460,000miles
It rattles, smokes and shorts oil. ]
If you search diligently you will find a steady supply of low mileage engines in ladipo market in mushin lagos.
You do know that Carfax will only show repairs done by major dealerships or insurance companies who report it right? Most repairs will not show up on Carfax e.g. engine replacements done at independent shops. |
