A popular autoshop in Ikeja took 1 month to drop engine and tranny.

Eventually, i abandoned car with them for 6 months as i was tired of constant follow up before they provided a Kazeem solution to my issue.

Vehicle was eventually sold at a stupid price because each time the Jag goes in there it comes out with a bill of nothing less than 200k.

Most of the time, that is not necessary and is only recommended because they either can't or won't diagnose what actual component in the system is causing the problem so they just replace the whole system.

Here's another example. 2010 BMW 325i. Car was at another dealership and wouldn't start. Of course you know what their solution was. Turns out after taking it apart it was just a camshaft bolt that broke in the head. No new engine required.

UPDATE: THE SAGA CONTINUES
so the bolt was as a result of a thirsty seized camshaft. SO... camshaft had to go!

Score another one for team rebuild... Though technically this one isn't.

Weeks back, I inquired for price of a 1MZ engine with VVTi for a Toyota Avalon in the cartalk chatroom and received a mention asking "Why am replacing engine?"

Prior to my enquiry, car was idling roughly and overheating after every 10 - 30km drive, my technician dismantled engine, replaced parts (bearings, 2 pistons and other stuffs) , bill was about 90-110k.
2weeks later car overheated, crankshaft knocked, in fact bad bad things happened.

Conclusion:
Grade A Japan engine 270k
Borale I heard is between 110 - 160k .

If na you, you go rebuild or replace ??

Those are actually the lowest spec recommended for that car.
