Business › Re: Palm Oil Biz.. How I Lost My First Capital by RealityShot: 7:34pm On Apr 10, 2018 |
Oluwapresley: In the last one week, I've read two very strong posts condemning salary earners and encouraging entrepreneurs/investors. In this one week also, I've also seen the amount of praises given to such write ups. I also want to praise entrepreneurship! Yes, but constructively!
Its funny how everyone nowadays gives numbers and statistics on how entrepreneurs make millions monthly but won't say everything that entails those numbers. My mother used to say; "at the end of every year, people see you sell Christmas chickens and they help you count all the money you are making from afar based on every customer that comes... But that's all they would ever know.. What comes in from afar"
That's the kind of picture people paint with almost everything. They paint from a far!
Of course, this call for entrepreneurship/investors is a very good call; however, they are called investors/entrepreneurs for a reason! You can't give what you don't have. Or should I say you can't invest what you don't have! But these posts have Sooooo condemned salary earners and painted sooo ugly a picture about salary earners that no one wants to be a salary earner. Which is a good thing actually but the resultant effect is a negative drive! Yes, a negative drive! People see the numbers you come up with..... I saw a post about a "danfo driver" who makes 1 million naira monthly..lol but the danfo driver never came out to say he makes 1 million naira monthly; our so-called clamourers for independence calculated his income for him..
This creates a negative drive.. That even those who don't have anything to offer start to say I want to be an entrepreneur. Oh, or you think investing entails only money? Investment entails a lot of things, man! From money to time, to knowledge, experience, the right people, luck etc. You can't give what you don't have. You can't invest what you don't have, if not, the result effect is failure!
Starting up something on your own requires sincerity! Are you ready for this? They calculate how much u can make if u were alone.. But I also know a lot of business owners that have lost sooo much and committed suicide! I know of guys that wasted all their money and time pursuing something for the wrong reason.
Investopedia says there is a difference between business owners and entrepreneurs. Not every business owner is an entrepreneur. There are differences and 1 of the difference is "innovativeness''.
If I happened to go back to my 100L days, I probably would Ace all my papers. If I go back to my primary school days, I probably wouldn't go to school at all and I will sit for exams and take the first position! Why do u think this is so? Its called growth!!
There are some guys that would go back to their primary school days and wouldn't still be able to pass their exams..
And there were some other guys that aced everything right from the start..
We need to understand that we are different.. You can't all go at the same pace. Some people need to grow. Grow in knowledge, wisdom, skills, abilities before they can actually do something.. If not, you are only Gonna fail and end up aving a negative mindset about starting up.
We need to realise that salary earners in that sense are also starting up something.. Its not always only about the salary. There are other ingredients you get even as a salary earner to be able to start up something..
I think these posts should be clearer. Sometimes, you have to be a salary earner before you become the almighty investor.. It doesn't mean I've forgotten my dreams.
My mentality might be messed up.. But this is exactly how I feel.. this is the simple message I am preaching to our youths since last year: YOU CAN NOT START BUSINESS WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY! START by building your own capital from any job you can get immediately. Then save up capital and start.. Then you can ask others to invest or loan you money to expand. BUT you will be surprised how many of them want to listen to that! They all get business ideas and want to ask for money to "TRY" the idea... Who be mumu that will give you to try? They don't know how to try abi? NOTE THAT: TUBLEZ raised the first capital from a JOB! and also raised the second capital from a JOB! JOB is a source of capital for your dreams! It maybe slow but but it's sure and with zero interest rates if you save consistently you can start your business at zero risk as a part time business Nough-said TUBLEZ thanks for sharing.. Am motivated to keep saving... |

frankwealth: Interesting, but permit me to ask, is treasury bills that profitable, again considering how people don't have confidence in the present Nigerian government
I will share my own later...I want us to make the thread interactive so people can learn from here and know how to get started in life. Thanks for stopping by.... yes... As at last Wednesday 4th it's 13% profit per year. Nigeria has not defaulted in payment of interest (which is paid as soon as you invest) Nor in capital return in the last 40 years. Nigerian government can not fail like Venezuela's government. We have a democracy. And our crude oil is being explored peacefully and profitably.. Also.. The telecoms industry and insurance and pension funds are all other sources of income for the government. Bottom line: government never defaults in treasury bills because it is used to finance the budget yearly, if they default then they know they will get no funds for the next budget either. Government would rather borrow to pay treasury bills (like they did last year) than to default. It's financial suicide for any Government. Treasury bills is run by all governments around the world including USA, BRITAIN, RUSSIA, CHINA, ETC NO POSSIBILITY OF LOSS IN TREASURY BILLS Read more about treasury bills and ask your questions @ https://www.nairaland.com/878880/treasury-bills-nigeria |

donparosky: its the most profitable approach if I would say...... a 25 littres of oil fully filled contains 35-36 bottles of palm oil. now a bottle of oil is sold for #400-400 each. Now let's take the least : 400*35=14000. you'd be making a profit of at least 4000 per keg of oil. assuming 10kegs is sold a week, that's 40,000. it's that simple and straight forward wow! Wow! Wow! Even at N300 it's N10500 for 35 bottles! Wow! Need to develop a solid marketing strategy for this Sharply! Wow!!! Thank you Sir! Wow! No wonder! No wonder all those women be rushing bottles and selling only in bottles.. Hmm... |

If by 15th of this month the price does not drop below 7000, it would be advised to start buying at current price. If possible slit your purchase so you may enjoy the possibility of buying at lower rates if prices fall later. It would appear that this year, Nigerian price is following international price..importing will not be profitable! Yay! |

oogalabs2: My farm is close to the border and you will marvel at what the custom officials do in that neighborhood. They basically work hand in hand with the smugglers. All of this in the open, nothing is hidden. So if govt pass a law to ban imported oil, at least it will reduce those cheap and occasionally adulterated oil in the country. And as i wrote above, it will encourage new local farms to spring up. Young graduates can start a farm with little money and expect to make some decent livelihood. but how do we overcome the Land access challenge? As for customs; we don't have enough personnel and technology to cover our borders yet the existing officers are doing what you just described and making things worse. It doesn't matter if their oil is adulterated or not: NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT should ban importation to increase EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. I have some money to invest.. But only land will swallow it all, so I keep saving. I don't want to buy land and wait years to plant on the small piece of land. |

oogalabs2: That's very correct. Starting a palm oil farm is far more challenging and wont stand a chance of success without a ban on importation of palm oil. Also take note of the fact that our borders are so porous that even when importation is banned, it will be less than 50% effective. very true! I dare say : we have No border control in this country. What bothers me is how imported oil can still make a good 30-65% profit despite the 35% additional import duty on it. This is why even official imports are soaring. Government should look into why local palm industry produces oil at a higher cost and take steps to reduce production costs. Why will oil from Benin Republic be cheaper than our local oil? This shows serious fundamental issues. |

Cromagnon: not if we refuse to enter farm
protectionism never a good idea it is the successful ban on imported chicken that
Boosted the poultry industry to what it is today.
So why not do same for Palm oil?
No palm related products should be permitted into this country.
