If you want to live in Houston then what is your budget like? Do you want to stay inside the loop or outside the loop i.e Interstate 610? However, on the order of magnitude, most of the interesting stuff is inside the loop. Staying inside the loop is also better if you work in the Energy Corridor. It also gives you access to amazing nightlife and steady gbedu Outside the loop is more of suburbs and the like.If you're single, you might check out Montrose or Washington . There are nice neighbourhoods all over Houston and I think you should find a house near your place of work because the traffic can be terrible with a capital T. Be prepared for a lot of driving o! The weather can be a plus or minus depending on what you like. . .but check out Arizona or Cali if you like heat. There is also no "central happening zone"; no matter where you stay, there is always a bar, museum, galleria or theater to hang out or get wasted in .In summary, stay in the loop if you can swing it PS: Since you want to stay in a state with so many Nigerians, have you considered Maryland? |
mamadowell:Is this your first pregnancy? Do have any headaches, visual difficulties or upper abdominal pain? Have you noticed frothiness of your urine? Please visit your GP and get your blood pressure and urine checked? This may be pre-eclampsia knocking on your door. It may also be a normal variation. So, I second the advice of those who have advocated you see your doctor? Pre-eclampsia is not something to toy with; it is better to be safe than sorry as I have seen it kill young and fit women who thought pregnancy is done with 'muscle'. |
I've seen this woman and her kind. They are perfectly comfortable with éarning money on their backs. They'll drive BMW cars and wear Prada shoes with another man's money. Any black successful man will always have a plethora of these ladies fawning over him, offering him their bodies and all. They are cute and funny AF when dating until you land on their slab. You'll think they adore you because of your cute face or hard abs ![]() If they trap you with a baby, you're in trouble. If they trap you with marriage, just buy your own coffin because they will divorce you and then the court will clean you out. The US is so so unfair to menfolk. That's why many black men in the US can't save any coins. My home boy had to dump his green card and MBA studies and run back to Nigeria after having the mishap of knocking up one of these women with twins. Till tomorrow, he swore he always used a rubber, but the DNA test said otherwise |
Ifyjuli25:My condolences! May God comfort all those he left behind |

Let me start with a story – everybody loves a story A friend of mine graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from FUTO some years ago. As is commonplace, he had big dreams of doing big things when he would get a big job with big pay. However, life gave him a kick in the nuts when two years post NYSC, he was still pushing CVs to companies where there was either 'no vacancy' or they wanted 'at most 25 yr olds with at least 5 years job experience'. Our friend told me he was subsisting on the money he made as a private home tutor teaching Maths and Further Maths. By fate or chance, he read some books and developed a new mind-set. He decided to do what was, according to him, “the craziest thing I have ever done in my life”. He prepared an application with his degree and certifications, his 4.0CGPA, his projects and everything else. He then attached a cover letter stating that he was willing to work without any form of financial compensation. He professed a love for the company and the great strides they had achieved and even listed some of the projects the company had undertaken. He sent it by registered mail to the head honcho of one of the biggest construction firms in Nigeria (read: Bulius Jerger ). There was no reply. Three weeks later, he got a reply via email from the HR division asking him to resume with them at his nearest convenience.Even though he was working for free, he had the grit and work ethic of the owner of the company. There were amazing perks – free rides to work on the staff bus, highly subsidized meals in the cafeteria . He even got the annual Christmas package for staff. He did everything that was assigned to him with diligence. He was the last to leave work and even pitched in on some weekends. He recounted to me how was solely responsible for his superior’s PowerPoint presentation at a conference. He began to bear responsibility and was integral to his unit. An outsider would not distinguish him from other paid staff. Long story short, this continued for many months (over a year). His pocket began to lose weight He had to make money. He explained his predicament to his immediate boss – one of the few people in the company who knew his status. After much waiting, a reply came. Unfortunately, he would not be able to convert him to paid staff, but he was willing to personally recommend him to a friend who sat on the Board of another construction firm. That he did. That was how my friend got his big job with big pay. His experience from the first coy also looked great on his CV. That is the end of my story. Many times, we will be stuck in a place where our words can’t take us any further. It will not be easy. Do not expect anybody to have mercy on you. There are no hand-me-downs. Men who succeed are those who reach out and take. Look at the Forbes billionaire list, there is nobody there who inherited his father’s money. This power of dramatization or taking action is not peculiar to job hunting. In all spheres of life, people who dramatize are often noticed while ‘gentlemen’ die in silence Take a look at Harpic, the popular toilet cleaning agent. The very first adverts for Harpic were modest. Just some fancy jingles showing pretty ladies in nice frocks dancing and shouting ‘Harpic! Harpic!!’ . Sales were plateauing and they were barely breaking even. Then they harnessed the power of dramatization, newer adverts had a popular actress staring a very dirty toilet (Yes, dirty toilets were shown) and then the Harpic difference was shown. The results: production demand of Harpic tripled the next quarter. Sales went up and Harpic became popular. The power of dramatization is the same reason why makers of breast milk substitute don’t spend time talking about how much Calcium or Vitamin A the product contains; they dramatize- they just show you a chubby baby being fed by a smiling mother. Stand up and be heard. Actions speak louder than words. Life is a battle and only those who fight well will get the prize. May God bless our struggle. Cc: lalasticala ![]() |
ciscajewel:A woman's ovaries release eggs alternately i.e ovary Stella may take March and ovary Bola will take April. Eggs are released from the ovary about mid-cycle. There is usually some fluid that is released alongside the egg. This fluid gets into the abdomen and causes pain. For some women, the pain is negligible while for some others, it is terrible. That explains why the pain comes mid-cycle and may be on alternate sidesIt is essentially a normal phenomenon and I'm sorry you have so much pain. You can google 'mittelschmerz' to read more about it. Having reflux of seminal fluid after intercourse is not an abnormal phenomenon, particularly when the viscosity of the man's semen is reduced. Studies are inconclusive as to the effect that this will have on those who are ttc. I'd suggest you remain in bed/avoid activity for about 20mins after intercourse. |
Tinubu is treading on thin ice and thus he wants to walk gently. . .even though the South-West is destined to get the very short end of the stick in their alliance with the North. All is not well b/w Jagaban and Baba, that I can tell you for sure Even though he is seething with rage, he is just trying to 'fall in line' and save face; otherwise Baba will hasten the process of shifting him into the bush. The difference b/w Northern and Southern political ideology is enormous. . .If Gbenga is shouting "change" and Adamu is shouting "chanji", they are shouting for very different things. I just have sympathy for Mr. Amaechi who brought money for building the house, only to be evicted from the main house into the BQ by the care-taker |
Anambrarians rock!! The best there is |
ciscajewel:How long does the pain last? Does it start before the onset of your cycle or with your cycle? |
@WoodCrestMayor. . . Once you have gotten your positive eligibility review, all you can do is relax. Your application would have been moved to the visa office which can vacillate between snail speed and very fast. Chill and keep an eye on your inbox. |
I used Stanbic IBTC Mastercard @ 4:30pm today 207 naira to the dollar |
jonaifame22: iblaw:I've being planning to open a thread on this matter. I would not advise anybody to migrate solely for the purpose of becoming of a barber. However, if you are going to study or do other legitimate business, then you are going to be in a good position. People often look down on plumbers, electricians, barbers and the like here in Nigeria until you have to shell out 80dollars to call your plumber or 100 dollars to your tailor for her to sow your ankara or 20 dollars to get someone to make your hair. If you can a skill before you travel, please do, you'll save (or even make extra ) cash. Just ask Amefrica, CFCfan or saxywale |
How much money do these comedians make sef? ![]() See Bovi of yesterday!!! He now has money - to fly his family out - to fly his family out to the United States -to fly his family out to the United States for holiday!! (Holiday ko, Holinight ni - which work have they done to deserve holiday?) In short, Bovi don make am!!! |
tearoses:Chai! That's the most beautiful thing I've read on NL this week. |
OLANIJA:I'm afraid you've gotten yourself into a pickle because of the above in bold. You applied for a Visitor's Visa and then indicated your intention to re-settle your children. With the anti-immigration sandstorm bashing Europe, I'm not surprised at the VO's response. They probably believe the children will simply disappear into the system once they arrive. OLANIJA:'Truth' is an expensive virtue; be ready for the results. If you re-apply straight away for another visitor's visa, the embassy will simply dial good ol' George in the Records Dept. He'll dig out your old application from his archives and they'll notice the irregularity in intent (a.k.a lies). You know what they do to those who have 'irregularities' ![]() All the best |
nanaposh29:Mbanu!!! No |
Lotalways:It will probably not be an issue. You can make the application with your own bank statement. |
ttmacoy:Very well said! |
Bananas. . .the bananas in Toronto looked so big and green, but they tasted funny; almost crispy. Infact, all the fruits tasted funny. They were not unripe or decayed, but I finally understood how blessed Nigeria is to have organic food in abundance. The roads. .The roads were so wide . . .so so wide. Na to start Fast and Furious : Toronto Drift. I made the mistake of thinking my 'local canvas' would protect me from the cold. Omo!, my toes almost fell off when the temperature started getting to -15 |
Hello, first time poster on this thread. I used my FBN Mastercard to make a payment online from Nigeria. I was billed at 226 naira = $ 1 Now I need to make an even bigger payment and I want a bank that offers a cheaper rate, because every naira counts. Does the Stanbic Naira MasterCard still do 199 naira = $1. Are there any cheaper Naira Mastercards with better exchange rates? Grateful for all your help. |
Haha. , ,Absolutely hilarious. I shared the experience of the @op The kind of excitement that will course through your veins when you exit Lester Pearson airport is indescribable (particularly when it is your first time outside Nigeria. I also didn't shower for two days when I got to Canuckland. I arrived just before the peak of winter. I (for the first time) experienced that 'white smoke-like thingy' you see come out from Brits when they talk in winter. ![]() Don't play with those cabmen, they are not smiling, but I don't think they set out to deliberately overcharge. One almost gave my padi high blood pressure with his sofri-sofri manner of driving, yet the road was as wide and as empty as @#$% Enjoy Canada o! God bless your hustle |
oladelemary:Back then I used Consultant and Children's Practice, Raymond Njoku Road Ikoyi. I called ahead of time to confirm availability of test date or Qlife Clinic in Victoria Island is pretty neat. |
lucky032:If you marry a Canadian, the individual can file for you If you are a common law partner of a Canadian (r/ship for > 12 months), you have a legal pathway to citizenship |
@Seun. . .Thanks for getting Mark Essien here to do this AMA and share with us. I've been hopeful that NL would absorb some of the positives of Reddit. Can we have more like this (i.e more NL generated unique content, more AMAs and all) and can they be aggregated on a sub? I know a few successful entrepreneurs who would love an organized forum to share their stories. |
good |
justwise:It is an enviable aspiration to aim to travel to Canada. However, let me use this forum to appeal to all prospective travellers. Do not travel into a country with a Visitor's Visa and then hope to 'regularise'(?) your stay. I don't know about other countries, but about Canada, it will not work. Visitor's visa is for Visiting. Travel Agents will tell you anything to collect your money. That is their job. There are some lovely internet forums (NL travel section included) that can aid you in your quest. If you are literate enough to write on NL, you are literate enough to log on to cic.gc.ca and get information. When my family started the Canadian PR application in 2011, the number of agents used was zero, the amount of extraneous money paid out was also zero. There were many confusing moments but thank God for good Nigerians on internet forums. In all, get the proper information and don't throw away your money on someone who is promising what he can not give. |
Children don't learn the way adults. You don't expect a 8am-6pm woman in the busy city of Lagos to leave her job that pays the bills and start teaching her tots how to speak vernacular. The fact that she realises its importance is credit enough. Maybe she doesn't have a good grasp on the language. Maybe she wants her children to speak better than her. There are a million reasons. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of family-oriented igbo programming on this channel. Content producers who adopt early will probably make a fortune. |
This is a good move. The next best is to start brainstorming on how to provide exciting and refreshing content, particularly for 'big men' who live in VI/Ikoyi and who want their children to learn Igbo. I didn't take this seriously until I met someone who is paying to have her children taught her local dialect. I'm willing to share ideas with anyone who is seriously considering this niche. |
Sevenody:You'll be asked to choose two provinces; but I don't think you are compelled to land there except you are coming in through the Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) |
tpiah01:Communities don't grow by 'everybody minding their own business'. The tons of advice people receive on Nairaland daily would be impossible if everybody simply decided to mind their own business. No man is an island. It is unfortunate that these kinds of attitudes still persist. If you feel this thread is poking into your business, i think you know where the 'Unfollow' button is. And, yes, I do try to practice what I preach. |
tpiah01:When you keep minding your own business, pesin fit die inside his room and nobody will know. EDIT: Boys, we made frontpage!!! ![]() http://www.unfriedgarri. |
Outside the loop is more of suburbs and the like.
