But the solution to the disaster is not donations, it is preventive action and the advocacy for government response and responsibility by the leading candidates whose voices carry weight and whose ideas may be the key to a final solution. But we are in a country where the mentality hovers around naira and Kobo, that poverty mentality that seeks to outsource common sense for a fee in practically everything we do. |
He should hand it over to his principal and President of Nigeria, who has enough time left to start implementation. |
Electrocution....? |
Msmither:Nothing whatsoever from a morally bankrupt government. FEMA was two weeks late to attend to Louisiana and this haunted George Bush till he left office. The criticism was ceaseless. Here Mr. President has said nothing, thoughtless of visiting flood ravaged locations. Why? The standards of citizen responsibility and advocacy is hopelessly poor. The citizens have cultured the government into not caring for her citizens. |
It was coming from miles away. This is his first reality check just as Lampard found his level as Chelsea gaffer. I advice him to drop to the Championship or develop himself in Europe before returning to the cauldron called the Premiership where he has bitten more than he could chew. Rangers was not the precursor to a successful Premiership run. The SPL is not even in the top fifteen European leagues. |
None of my business. What interests me is why there has been no gasoline in Abuja for a couple of weeks now. What is going on. I have had to be shipping in gasoline from Nasarawa state at ridiculous cost.... ![]() |
The replies so far clearly show that Nigerians are really traumatised with life in this country. They simply cannot hide their disdain for their taskmasters. But the courage to do what is right in a democracy, first at the polls and then in handling the reins of the elected government nko? For wia... the cankerworm of sentiment will then show up and eat everything including their consciences. |
Good result and great start to the season for Arsenal. But they really need an upgrade on that 'Awilo Lokonga' in the midfield. Al he does is dance, dance, dance, sideways, backwards, sideways, backward, to the left, to the right, to the left, to the right.... and after all that gyration has no idea whatsoever where the direction of the goal is.... very, very average player. |
highchief1:He said he will be visiting 3 locations so your criticism is hasty. Moreover he has called on the other candidates to do same so there is enough room for everyone to 'scam'... as you say. There are more than enough flood ravaged locations in Nigeria to go round all the political parties. |
robinso01:Na. Hovercraft is da thang. |
yommen:Biko allow us to enjoy a moment of comic relief amidst this bedlam called Nigeria Inc..... ![]() |
Which kind wahala be dis.... Are you a movie actor for a December audition, or a secret agent to be deployed to the Congo.... what is the rush. Anyway if you must you can go to ebay for generous discounts on original African Toupees...... ![]() |
Neddstark:You are a failed citizen that will be pouring water on fire while the fuel tap is open. Better wake up. No man is a slave to another. Let government stop funding education and we all wallow in ignorance in that case if it cannot build an economy to care for its people. |
And as a result of the government induced year long strike the gap is bound to increase. And I hope we all know that it is only the best foreign countries poach leaving us in tatters. |
Yes..... I have been suffocating.... gasping for air as inflation strangulates... ![]() |
dre11:And some folks out there say the government has done well and insist on 'continuity' beyond 2023.... can you imagine such tragic comedy. |
lhordspy:Don't embarrass yourself here. He is talking about the people that own the democracy working for the good of the country they own but I guess your head is firmly stuck in feudalism that cannot see beyond the chains of your taskmasters and cannot imagine a citizenry in charge. With all the sufferings in Nigeria where is the advocacy for good governance in a country that is the poverty capital of the world. Continue messaging your ego oh failed citizen while everyone around you sinks in their misery. |
Kajaard:Told you folks. Restructuring first then elections will naturally be about issues. Right now elections are useless in fostering a better Nigeria. |
I forsee Barcelona ditching Xavi Hernandez in favour of Mikel Arteta sometime in the future. |
And you know what..... the sad thing is that this man may actually win... That is why I keep on saying that without restructuring the system will continue to present to us a choice between 'bad and worse'... candidates.... pun intended with all prejudice.... ![]() |
Why should the next President be pitied. It is inevitable. It is his duty. Government is not a beauty or fashion parade. A President should also be like a dentist that no one likes but everyone needs and appreciates. I have said this several times. The hardest political decisions should be taken when political capital is at its peak, that is immediately after swearing-in when the majority (hopefully, if the elections is not rigged) of the citizens are still in the proverbial 'cloud 9' and when they can either fight or pacify the minority (hopefully) citizens that any decision taken by their principal is acceptable. That is why I am glad none of the candidates are ignorantly calling the subsidy 'a scam' this time around so they don't ignorantly rope themselves into maintaining the status-quo the way the ruling APC did. For if the APC in waiting in 2014 did its homework well they will have realised that the scam was in the administration of the subsidy, not the fact that subsidies were paid and so will have gone after subsidy thieves instead of throwing the proverbial baby away with the bath water. But as they dithered scandalously and as their political capital ebbed away due to one poor administrative decision after another it became impossible to do away with the 'scam' without triggering a mass revolt. So the lesson is clear for the new government. Remove it as soon as you are given authority to take decisions while the sentiment filled peons are still dancing in the streets. That is at dawn of the next day after the swearing-in.... or else..... |
ufotunang:Don't mind him. He used to see billions flow across his desk with zero accountability as State governor. Even I will be flabbergasted when all I have now to toss around is my salary. The restructuring that will end all these is the only thing that will save Nigeria. Not wasting my time to vote in a democracy that puts the goat in a cage with the yam and hands over the keys to the lion. |
Oga take it easy. No one on earth ever agrees that his salary meets his expectation.... even the broke man recently employed after a church testimony... The day Nigerians wake up and demand that Nigeria is restructured and the burden of your upkeep for example is move from the treasury to the citizenry you represent then we will see your real worth. For a jaundiced, upside down system that has the players paying the referees instead of the fans has corroded your primary responsibilities to the citizens to get them a fair deal on every single matter of benefit from government. |
Wow... when the spin exceeds certain limits the G forces interfere with rational thinking. Next time we will probably hear that, 'before I became Lagos State governor the state was as empty and hostile as the Atacama desert and only dinosaurs roamed the wild...'.... ![]() |
Until the encounter flesh eating bacteria or those bugs that swim up your ass and lay eggs in your brain matter.... ![]() |
All these places will be underwater and perhaps part of the Atlantic ocean in the next 50 years. Climate change is real. No more buying property anywhere 50 miles from the coast. |
ahnie:This is a national forum with international audience as well. Try to geo-tag your pictures and contextualise your experiences. I can only guess from the sky blue coloured trikes and the canoes that it must be somewhere in Delta State.... but I could be mistaken. |
Perhaps the late Queen Elizabeth II caused this one too. Because what I see here is exactly what was happening during colonial rule. So....has Nigeria progressed since then....? Hardly.... just exchanged one overlord for another. Perhaps in another 100 years our Army Chief will be holding the handbag of a Syrian or Ethiopian....'expat'. |
Sunnyja:But he was just one man. If the citizens who are at the brunt of this mess knew better and could turn off their silly sentiments then for a brief moment they will have roasted him and his likes over hot coals. That alone will have cost him a re-election. But Nigeria is not like other cerebral nations where people think before they talk. Where even the slightest thing that affect their lives and livelihoods attracts such vociferous, in-depth debates and advocacy such as will send shivers down the spines of leadership. In the UK just a few weeks ago the government had to reverse its course on the budget out of fears of losing power. The Chancellor said, "we got the message....". Here in Nigeria what is the government ever realising and reversing. What are the people ever demanding??... nothing. Just playing sentimental politics and suffering and dying like animals in the bush without mind or conscience. Students have been at home for 8 months till this week. If the government knows this kind of thing can make it fall, the strike will not have lasted one month. Who puts the boot to their necks.... the citizens, serious nationals that won't tolerate nonsense. |
Iwedunloye:NEPA was not privatised. It was broken up and bits and pieces sold off to scavengers as scrap, with government holding on to the wheelbarrow or push cart called the TCN. That is not privatisation. A better way should either have been a wholesale to a single corporate entity, in true competitive bidding with subscribers of international quality and repute or the monopoly of NEPA to provide power ended and the market thrown open to new investors working with clean slates like the telecom privatisation. But guess what. The owners of Nigeria saw they lost out completely in the telecoms sector privatisation and looking at the enormous revenues the telecoms sector was generating could not resist the urge to have a slice of the huge public services pie so they muddied the waters. I personally blame Obasanjo for this. He could have put the power sector and petroleum sector in full remission together with the telecoms sector in 1999. Perhaps today General Electric, KEPCO or ENEL will have been running the electricity show and Shell, Exxon, SINOPEC or ARAMCO today will be building refineries and gas plants all over the country. That is what happened or didn't happen. And the only way to get all these charlatans out of business and out of ruining our lives as citizens of this country with poor services is by popular revolt. The people setting aside their sentiments and demanding government ends the charade or voting in those who commit themselves to proper development and best practices in the respective industries. Today in a country of 200 million people how many know about their power companies, their power providers..... hardly any. Because there are none, no proper corporate players at the wheel. Just a mish-mash of producers, distributors and retailers masquerading as legit enterprises, the type of hustlers and traders we love in this part of the world. Such a murky, messy Jankara market style so called industry. Shameful. |
When you have an ignorant citizenry that falls for every crumb of propaganda coming from their feudal overlords then their consequent sufferings are just laughable. In 2019 was this not an issue raised by a certain Presidential candidate but was shouted down by failed citizens given stipends to sell their souls to those who intended to rob the country in cahoots with that criminal organization called the NNPC. Four years down the line is Nigeria better with a so called oil industry controlled by the NNPC?. Nigerians must get educated, informed and in touch with the realities of how this country is run and whose interests are always protected when common sense comes against the evil powers of vested interests. A citizenry that cannot think and act independently can experience a decent society. The common man benefits nothing from the way Nigeria is operated. He should be at the cutting edge of forcing change. |
They make too much noise. How many American, British, Chinese, French, Canadian or Japanese Generals are known. You started the fight. Just get on with it and stop disturbing us with posturing. This is almost a year.... haba. |
