Indeed, we suffer from very weak institutions due to the persistent personalisation of governance.

The strongman dogma has proven once again to be misfit for democracy with the m closure of the border being a tacit admission if the total failure of the Customs Service for which no one has been called to account, no known new policy thrusts to reposition it for purpose and no new programs of retraining, rekitting and reorientation of the men and women of that service.

But just like in 1984, a thoughtless fiat is making multi-millionaires of those men at the borders by the minute. The military have had their windfall from unending insecurity, now its the time of the para-military to partake in the 'commerce' of goverment by executive fiat.

Afterall the boys must be kept happy.

That is exactly my thought, they are hypocrites, she had sex like everyone else, not in school premises school was on holiday, so what exactly is her offense that she had to be expelled ?!?
If a Manchester United player is all over the net smoking weed or making out with a hooker, the club will act whether the activity was conducted during the season or off season, at Old Trafford or at Ibiza. Because the individual represents the club amd thus its values. It will be in the contract, that you cannot do what you want to do, how you want to do, where you want to do.

A few weeks ago the CEO of McDonald's had to resign for having an affair which was consensual and perfectly legitimate in the open world and though a number of fellow CEO's were shocked at his plight but the tenets are set in stone. The McDonalds brand is one built around strong family values and such is not tolerated in their organisation. So he had to go despite his outstanding successes as top dog. (no pun intended). Did be commit the offense(s) on company premises or with company time and resources, no.

A lot of regular folks resign or get fired every day because of regulations in theor working environment. Some go to court and win, most donot where it is seen that they apended their signature without obviously reading the fine print.

I was speaking to a fellow just this morning who is investing heavily in education presently. And he talked about the dearth of educational investment in the south particularly by individuals of means in this region citing (guess what) his daughter's recent graduation from Babcock (he didn't mentioned this expulsion incident, probably hasn't heard yet) and was glowing in his admiration of the institution.

Now I have known this fellow for quite a while and he isn't exactly a pious pope nor church inclined but recognises the value of sound morals he wishes to instill in his kids which he hopes the institution provides. So, you can understand that the institution has to protect, maintain and project its core values and it will do anything to keep that imagery intact. He paid a fortune for his daughters education. There is a lot at stake. The private college education industry is competitive and will be more so going forward.

Underage sex is a crime on all grounds. It is in the constitution it is everywhere you can't compare it to two adults having sex. The only problem was that the schools image was tarnished by the act.
Oga. Every institution has its rules regarding conduct despite those of the general society and as long as you want to belong you just have to obey or leave.

Like the man said about sports, there is no societal rule against speaking out in public media but if you speak about the refereeing or umpiring in most sports you will get fined and eventually banned. Even football clubs bar players from speaking about in club activities despite the universal liberties of social media.

There are many things about my life in the military that I cannot share because I have read the fine print. Do so and you can go in for it. All institutions, all organisations of any worth I know have rules, tenets and regulations that may be in consonance with or in total variance with societal norms and values. When you sign up you must obey them to obtain the values the institution projects.

If the school in question has written so, it will project such and the consequences on whoever breaches will be dire. You will not get more than a 50 percentile sympathy to breakers because for most the tough rules are the attraction to the patrons in the first place.
Education › Re: Leaked Sex Tape: Why Babcock University Reserves The Right To Expel Student by Reference(m): 9:19am On Nov 21, 2019
Hmmm....who said....'rules... and consequences... without rules we live amongst the animals...'

Eveyone has rules associated with themselves, even those critics of the school but the fact that what happened either doesn't affect them, they donot suffer the consequences of such breaches or the rules themselves donot meet with their approval or standards, tthey oppose it.

They donot mind that others bend over backwards to accomodate rule breakers but no one shoukd break 'their own' rules.

I have grown in an atmosphere of strict discipline all my life and attended institutions of great rules and regulations. The thing is simple. If you must, you must. If you cannot, please donot. It is wrong to destroy all for the sake of one. There is no right thinking who will accept this, only hypocritical ones will venture.

If we donot like itthen we seek to change the rules so they apply to all our sensibilities. Theday we can no lo ger tolerate private institutions and their 'rules' then we will move to stop them completely from opening their doors.

how can u fire a coach u told no money to spend since 3 yrs ago , and u sack him , hire a new coach and u started spending money

why not spend with the old coach , then if he fail then u can sack him

am a mourinho fan , but I hate the way they treated the sacked coach , even though he won nothing , they should have released some money to him after building the stadium .
Doesn't work like that. Though clubs appear to have and spend great sums of money the lines are very fine. They know that ultimately for clubs without a history and great pedigree such as Tottenham to move into the big league they need to win silverware to attract investment.

To get silverware you need the right tools and in Jose they feel they have someone who can achieve that within the shortest possible time or their growth curve wil stall and they wil be left with serious debts. So in him they have gambled 'their last pennies' hoping to repeat the Champions League feat of last season, a task that to all of us seemed next to impossible with the slide of Poch.

So it is not a matter of having money or not. In theory they donot have the money they are offering Jose just staking in anticipation of the Cha,ppions league results this season and a top four for the next. If Mourinho cannot do either or both then Levy may be out of a job. As management you must be seen to do something when your house is on fire.

I think overall it was too early for Tottenham to splash on infrastructure like they did for new digs. More successful clubs have been more cautious and slower to expand stadiums and training facilities. Chelsea and Pool for instance. The lessons of their North London neighbours appears to have been lost on them.

Main reason for the bad roads in Nigeria is not lack of maintenance or construction of new roads, it is actually due to the excessive axle weight on the roads.

Cement, granite, fuel, steel etc distribution in Nigeria should not be on roads, rather should be by rail which is designed to carry more weight than the roads.

The entire cement and granite demand of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states is dependent on that Odukpani-Itu road. Why wont the road fail this way. Such heavy loads should be meant for trains only but not in Nigeria.
The British built railines in colonial Nigeria to do exactly that. Lower the cost of exported raw materials/business.

When folks often say colonial era roads were built better what they indirectly say is that there were functional alterrnatives to road transportation which preserved those roads making them last longer.

Now that the alternatives are no more the colonial era roads are all gone due to abuse and overuse.

We got it wrong starting in the General Murtala era when everything colonial era, white rule and expatriate including their vestages was jettisoned out of sheer sentiment. The railways were seen as an instrument of easy explotation and plunder of our resources and cash crops and so no new investment was made to enhance and expand it.

Rails were seen as transportation of the peons while road and air means were for the 'new, prosperous Nigerian unschackled from its colonial era overlords' so airports and highways were massively built in the 70's and early 80's leaving yhe railways to rot.

Foolish sentiment has barely left us decades after despite our pains, shame, waste of resources and countless lives lost to poor transportation infrastructure. Today we are still spending far more on roads, new roads, old roads and more roads than on rail lines. Sentiment may never leave us.

Something bothers me with the South South.

It seems no one has noticed this

Compensation in the South South is part of the reason why projects fail in that part of the country.

I have worked on a fail project that compensation was 6 times the project cost. The project failed even after FG spent N2billion.

This is also another project about to fail but the only thing the people care about is compensation. Why would a project not fail if 60% of the funds released is for compensation.

It is no secret that compensation in the south south especially is covered in extreme corruption.
But you have to understand that the population density in the south is a lot higher than in most other parts. Land is scarce.

In the extreme south the geography is further worsened by waterways and endless swamps, basically unsuitable land for agriculture the mainstay of most Nigerians so land is bound to be expensive for any use whether goverment or private.

Then you must understand that these regions have already given up massive tracts of land to thousands of miles of oil and gas pipelines and right of ways, oil and gas facilities and the govwrment has to compete with the compensations the oil industry pays in certain circumstances.

Cross-Riverians are just to docile to get anything from a hardened goverment. Calabar is the only state capital linked to another by a single carraigeway.

It is a 6 metre wide road in and out of that city with a population of half a million, a seaport, one of the largest cement factories in Nigeria and numerous tank farms serving all the states on the eastern flank of Nigeria.

Just a six metre wide road for all that. You can imagine the carnage. It is an absolute shame on this country. When it was still an oil producer billions left the earth beneath her to build infrastructure in all other parts of Nigeria for decades while she has none.

Well in my opinion, Bayelsa was a resounding success. No comment on Kogi. I have said anough about that place. 50 percent is a stalemate. No progress but there is progress. The common denominator is the people. If you elect a leader you cannot remove then you are in trouble.

So clearly the quality of citizenry in a domain determines leadership quality and ultimately, human experience. I am sorry but the difference between the average Bayelsan and the average citizen of Kogi is clear so will their experiences going forward.

There is no need to pity anyone. The incumbent as an individual has only one vote, with his family perhaps another ten, in a state of 2 million adults.....

There is no endeavour in life where the absolute focus on man (humans) can ever amount to anything. The problem Reno has is that like many Nigerians he is more personality based that issue based or institutional-objective based in the case of democracy and governance.

Anyone that has a focus on individual patterns, behaviour, tendencies and conduct solely is bound to have deep seated frustrations, even God Almighty doesn't do that (post Old Testament).

When you rather focus on objectives you then become a teacher, leader and inspirator spending more time showing what is right in addition to cautioning on what is wrong. Does Reno have alternate views to what is wrong in all instances. I think not.

When it is all negative for too long with little reconstruction even the sturdiest of souls will go weary.

That is the truth and that is how democracy works. Performance only should be the criteria but unfortunately there are very few Nigerians that are willing to recognise this aspect in the democracy journey.

Till now folks are all about personalities and alphabets not the principles and purposes of the exercise because the African is feudal in nature. He needs a king to be subject to. He cannot believe in the law so he needs a policeman. He cannot believe in God so he needs a prophet. He cannot recognise the power of democracy to better his life so all you hear about this election as far as Nigerians are concerned are Sylva, Lyon, Jonathan, Dickson, Tinubu, Oshiomhole, Buhari, etc.

Whereas all the people of Bayelsa simply did was to remove a defective component of their democratic machinery and replace it with another, no more, no less. So the case is clear, Lyon can journey wherever he wants and say whatever wishes to whom ever, the bottomline is, he has 4 years to deliver what he has promised or he willbe replaced.

Congratulations to Bayelsans once again.

But everyone including him onows that this law in meant only for the citizens and to silence them from speaking out while they, the law makers and law enforcers go about 'hate speaking'. Afterall are those who incite genocide not the elite, those who this law will not affect.

If I as an ordinary citizen says folks should rise up and commit genocide even my family members will shrug their shoulders because I carry next to no influence but it is the lawmaker and his likes that can incite his constituents to do anything yet he is unlikely to obey the law or be punished for disobeying it.

Thisis the simple reason whythe law will not be met with wide acceptance.

Well south america has weaklings too like Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru. Africa has South Sudan, Mauritania and Seychelles, Asia has the Phillipines, Hing Kong and India.

Everyone has the opportunity to shine. There are no excuses. Before the Nations league Europe had the least number of international tournaments because clubs resisted them while the Copa America was once every two years like our Nations Cup.

South American players have had every opportunity to excel and enough matches and tournammets to post goals.

Why they donot feature well in international soccer stats is often due to lack of patriotism, an adverse desire for monetary gains and professional inconsistency over extended periods. Very few of them have caps in the three figures thoughtless of goals.

100 goals against no matter who is a very big deal in national team soccer. It speaks of deep patriotism and a high level of professional comittment over decades, over several coaches and tournaments. It is not easy at all.

If Nigeria had a player scoring 100 goals for the Eagles that would be equivalent to 2 or 3 more Nations Cup trophies and probably a world cup semi-final.

It is that outstanding.
